    Concerning Harfoots, by Bilbus Bungelton:
"Harfoots have been living and "farming" other Harfoots across Middle Earth for many hundreds of years, quite content to ignore and be ignored by the world of the Big Folk. Middle Earth being, after all, full of strange creatures beyond count. Harfoots must seem of little importance, being neither renowned as great humanitarians, nor counted amongst the very wise.
"In fact, it has been remarked by some that Harfoots only real passion is for food. A rather unfair observation as we have also developed a keen interest in the crunching of bones and the stealing of wheels. But where our hearts truly lie is in pain, misery, and good tilled earth fertilized by the remains of our forebears. For all Harfoots share a love of all things that you can boil, mash and stick in a stew. And yes, no doubt to others, our ways seem quaint but today of all days, it is brought home to me it is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life."

In the film trilogy, Galadriel's defining trait is her piercing insight. While Celeborn greets the fellowship formally, Galadriel communicates privately with Frodo -- she goes immediately to the heart of the matter, namely the ringbearer's burden. She warns Frodo upfront of what he already suspects -- Boromir will succumb and try to take the ring. She later shows him upfront what would happen if he fails, no punches pulled, and even her own temptation by the ring is her essentially saying "let's get this over with" and just going for it -- and coming through having passed the test. Galadriel is ethereal wisdom and beauty, but her character is all about getting straight to the point, to the heart of the matter, with piercing, uncompromising insight. This show... they've got the "uncompromising" part, but seem to have missed the insight and unerring focus on what matters.

About the eruption sparing the named characters: There was a gag in Order Of The Stick (a long-running webcomic) where a couple mortally wounded random soldiers are talking to each other in the aftermath of a big battle. They tell each other their names right as they think they're going to die, after which they both immediately start to feel better and soon get up and walk away, eventually becoming somewhat major characters in the main plot. It's lampshading the narrative trope that a character basically gets a second health bar as soon as the audience knows their name.

20:55 I think Mauler is confusing Celeborn and Círdan.
Círdan, Gil Galad and Galadriel are the original Eldair Ringbearers.
Círdan was gifted the red ring (fire) by Gil Galad but recognises Gandalf as a force for good and loans him the ring of fire whose power is to inspire resistance to tyranny. Meanwhile he waits for him at the Grey Havens.
Gil Galad is slain at Baradur and Elrond takes his blue ring (air) before he dies.
Of the three original ringbearers, only Galadriel remains with her white ring (water) that conceals things from evil that she used to protect and sustain Loth Lórien.

How does a bunch more of it get mined and given to the Elves, since they’ve already showed the audience the Balrog?
Did we just do this whole “how important Mithril is to the Elves” just to completely undo it next season, where the Dwarves are just giving it to the Elves to make shirts with?
Or did the writers forget about the logic behind Frodo’s shirt and are going to create a huge plot contradiction with their Mithril back story?

@@Arphemius All they had to do was put him on a wagon. Done.
Please don't pretend like the writers created a situation in which the harfoots had no other choice but to leave Nori's family behind. They didn't just leave them behind, they even considered purposefully sabotaging them to make sure they die.
Nomadic people have to make tough decisions sometimes BUT THIS WASN'T A TOUGH DECISION. Nori's father had a broken ankle, that's it. We can say with absolute certainty that nomadic cultures don't leave a healthy member of their group behind just because he can't walk properly for a while. These absolute assholes even could've waited a few weeks longer since they still had plenty of supplies left. The writers didn't even establish why the harfoots had to leave in the first place. The area they stayed in still looked lush and full of resources.
But let's say they had no other choice but to move on. Just use a few more people to pull the wagon. It's never explained why the caravan would have to move slower. They have to pull a whole bunch of heavy wagons anyway.
So yes, the harfoots are evil bastards. They didn't need medical know-how to understand that his ankle will heal eventually and putting him on a card wouldn't slow them down at all. And you most certainly don't sabotage the family you just left behind to make sure they die a horrible death.

But ya in general I agree, being a hunter gatherer is not as idyllic as people like to imagine. About Galadriel's weird tear unbalance (around 5:00:00), I actually have her same "problem." It's actually more common for me to cry out of one eye at a time (like they alternate "tear duty") unless I'm REALLY upset.
If I'm watching a movie and there's a scene that hits me *right there* then the tears come down from one eye.
If I'm mourning a the passing of a precious family member, it's waterworks from both faucets.
Just thought I'd try to point out that crying from one eye isn't 100% unheard of.

It reminds me of that joke in Rick and Morty where the "enlightened" female society of Gazorpians set up such a brutal, simple and somehow at the same time unnecessarily complicated execution device. It's one born of a great misunderstanding and a severe lack of perspective of just what sort of tribulations go into society crafting and one that could only exist inside a bubble.

I can’t believe I’m actually siding more with Sauron than with Galadriel, but this show really managed to pull it off. And it’s not even the fact that Sauron makes a good point; all his flowery words to explain his ambitions are just window-dressing for his desire to take control of everything Morgoth might have because, y’know, that’s what a real villain would do. No, what makes me side with Sauron is the fact that his goals are at least understandable and consistent with his character. And that’s something that just isn’t true with Galadriel. Sauron feels freed from the whims of his tyrannical master and wants to change the world into his ideal vision of perfection at the expense of the freedom of all Middle-Earth. Whereas Galadriel’s motivations are little more than “I am woman hear me roar, dead brother want vengeance REEEEEE.”
