How to Grow Geraniums Like the Bavarians

- Please note that I filmed this video last year (2020). Due to covid lockdowns, we were not able to get our geraniums in March and had to buy them in May. That's why I put them out in our flower boxes as soon as I planted them. Also, my husband thinks March is too early to buy the flowers even though his grandmother insists it's correct! So, if you wait until April or May to buy your flowers, they will turn out just fine.
We use 6 flower boxes out front, 2 small and 4 large. And, 1 small flower box in our back window.

We check the flowers twice a day all season long. Often we have to water them every day in the morning AND evening.
You need:
Flower bins
Flower soil
Fertilizer
Hanging geraniums
Lots and lots of water!

Thank you, I wondered how this look was achieved. It's stunning. You can cut them right back at the end of the summer and store just the roots, they don't take up much space or need much care. Thanks again.

Your video is the first I've seen long beautiful Geraniums grow in dirt. Inbelievable and beautiful they are. Thank you for the great tips. I have three Geraniums and never water mine and they bud so nice and full. I watch so many videos on Geraniums and some say don't water them too often because they don't like to sit in water and your the first that i've seen water your Geraniums like this. They have Ivy geranium that hangs a couple of inches only. The cascading/Swiss geranium is what you have. Lucky you :)

I don't see Geraniums in the ground that much only in pots. Is there a reason why some don't plant them in the ground?

wow!!! do you have to deadhead them? i wonder how if it's hanging outside the window. thanks beautiful black cat btw.. sad about cutting them back for the winter. i live in zone 10b and too warm that it makes the flower wilt in few days. in colder climates, the flowers last a bit longer.
I only deadhead at the very base of the flowers. So, anything I can reach when I'm watering them. That 3-part fertilizer was great for keeping the flowers from turning brown so aside from watering them, they were really low maintenance.
Sorry to hear it's too warm where you live and that the flowers wilt but I bet you have some native flowers that are stunning :) And, thank you, Bernadette is such a sweet kitty.

We bought ours from Ebay in Germany. I just checked Ebay in the US and I couldn't find anything! So crazy. There has to be a company making something similar, the design is too good, it makes for such an easy way to care for flowers. Can you comment where to buy them if you find some?

@@DanaDoes I’ve been researching and found out that the false floor pot system is actually called self watering pot. And they do sell it on Amazon. There are different brands offering pots with different sizes, shapes and colors. I haven’t tried it yet but will do in the near future, hopefully. I hope this helps! :)

What good does it do any of us if you can’t tell us the fertilizer that they like ?? Oh so frustrating
The video isn't about fertilizer and not all Bavarians use the same fertilizer
Do you have the name of the fertilizer?
I don't! It's a mix that that nursery makes themselves. They did say it was a 3 part fertilizer (Quick acting, long-term, and something in the middle). If you show a screenshot of the fertilizer to someone at your local nursery, they may have an idea of what it is.
