I usually open the bottom of plant and i expand the root of flower and then I plant it in the actual planter. They grow better.

1. Some nurseries offer potting compost that is specifically called geranium compost. Compared to "normal" balcony potting compost, this is often supplied with longer-acting fertilisers, so that regular fertilising is only necessary after two or three months (see label). Simple balcony plant soil often only contains a starter fertiliser for the first four weeks after planting. So if no special geranium potting soil can be bought, this is not a problem. Here you just have to remember to start fertilising regularly about four weeks of planting.
2. Geraniums, like many other balcony plants, thrive best in slightly acidic substrate, i.e. between a pH of 5.5 to 6.5. This is when root formation and nutrient availability is at its best for geraniums.

Pelargoniums can overwinter very well if these general conditions are observed: cut back green shoots to a length of approx. 5-10 cm in autumn before overwintering, plants can remain in the pot or be removed from the balcony box and remove soil loosely attached to the roots to save space. Several plants can be placed loosely in a larger pot without adding more potting compost. Overwinter the plants in the pot in a bright location, which must remain frost-free at all times. Regal pelargoniums have no special requirements compared to other pelargoniums, except that they are somewhat more sensitive to temperature, so it is better to store them at 5° C rather than close to freezing point. Generally speaking, the plants need very little water now (shot glass instead of watering can). They should then overwinter well.

Hi! Lidl is selling these this Thursday 31 March and I would like to get it. How do I go about potting it? They sell it in six packs. What size pots (not hanging) do I need per plant? Only reason I ask is I saw someone else put three of those small plants on a large hanging basket and they said that's more than enough where as I see you have crowded it a bit more? So I'm confused. And the soil type is multipurpose compost peat free am I right? Thanks a lot
Hello, geraniums need a lot of light. The more light they get, the more flowers they have and the colours are more intense. The best location is sunny to semi-shady. The pots should be 18 cm high and the distance to the neighbouring plant should be at least 20 cm.
If you use a good quality, pre-fertilised potting soil when planting, this will cover the geranium's nutrient requirements for the first weeks.

Hi, i hope you can help me. I planted geranium from seeds almost a month ago and until now they are still on cotyledon leaf stage and very small. I'm seeing a sign of true leaf starting to show but the seed leaves is now turning yellow. Please help.
Hello Essa, although all geraniums on the market today are propagated by cuttings, plant lovers can of course also grow geraniums from seed. However, these are not the commercially available varieties, as the characteristics of these varieties can only be obtained by propagating cuttings.
If geraniums are grown from seed, make sure that the seeds are placed in growing soil (it is fine-textured, crumbly and low in nutrients) and only very thinly covered with this soil (geraniums are light germinators). The soil must be slightly moist, so water carefully - in fact it is better to spray the soil. The best growing temperature is 18° to 25° C. If available, a propagator can be used, or the seeds can be covered with transparent film though the film must not touch the plants. However, you should also provide fresh air so that the humidity is not too high at all times. When the plants are about 5 cm tall, they can be placed individually in flower pots with geranium soil.

Single flowering geraniums, whether standing or hanging, are the right choice for places where the flowers could get rained on. Double-flowering standing geraniums are striking. Hello. great question! We don’t have the brand of the exact fertiliser used at the video, but we do have a lot of recommendations for you from the geranium breeders. For an ideal supply of nutrients for geraniums, just mix a commercially available liquid fertiliser for flowering plants into the water once a week. Alternatively, fertiliser sticks can supply the plants for two to three months. A slow-release fertiliser (used in the beginning of the video) will even provide enough nutrients for up to nine months. You can add it to the soil later if you didn’t do so when you planted the plants. At first you can try to collect the caterpillars from the affected beds. It is best to do this at dusk, as some caterpillars are diurnal or night active. If this doesn't help, it is best to get a biological plant protection product and spray the affected areas. The use of chemical plant protection products should be avoided. 🌞🌺
