My wife passed away a few months ago and she was a keen gardener. She loved geraniums and the garden is full of them. Now, I have to learn how to do what she did. This video has explained everything I needed to get started. Thank you very much.
I dont use cutters. I use my fingers and snap them off at a joint. Dip them in rooting gel,put them in 4 inch pots with potting mix and place in a window, doesnt matter east ,west ,south, and water . Sucess! Doesnt matter what time of year.
Thanks for fhe tips!!! It's 1:43 am, couldn't sleep and i stumbled onto your video.😊 I saw a beautiful red orange vibrant geranium at home Depot last week. It's still on my mind, got go get it now. $26 for a pretty decent size, now that i know i can make more out of that one, I'm happy to spend the cash. This method will give me more geraniums to gift and/sell. TY!!! Goodnight 😅
I gave my mom geraniums almost every Mother's Day when I was in elementary school. Thanks to this video (and Mom's green thumb keeping the plants alive for actual decades) I'm going to take cuttings from those plants to see if I can grow my own!
I just stick the cuttings directly into soil and they grow just fine during spring/summer. Just has to remember to keep the soil moist at the beginning before they root in.
I pruned my geraniums one year and left the prunings on paper for weeks, in my garage. When I eventually got around to planting the prunings, I was amazed that most grew. They are very hardy plants, I find. From Australia.
I have a geranium that belonged to my son and my little granddaughter loves watching it grow and flower. She is amazed how plants grow, she's 7 now so I hope to show her what I can about flowering plants. This will be so much fun for her. Thank you for sharing this.

Awesome, my granddaughter and her husband just had my 1st great grandbaby in January of this year, She is so beautiful. She started eating veggie baby food when she turned 5month old. I'm going to have my granddaughter save me some jars. Oh boy can't wait it start me some geraniums ❤❤❤
Outside I use both parts fish fertilizer. 5-1-1 & 1-10-10 one time a month but it does slightly smell. If inside I use 5-5-5 organic granular (winter months)
Clip it back, add fertilizer & water. Then I set mine by an West facing window, East or South facing will also work. Make sure you don't over water. I water mine 1 or 2 times a month.
Stems on mature geraniums become tan/ brown at the lower half and green on the upper half. Can a cutting be taken from the tan colored stem, or only the green stock? Thanks for your help and advice.
Could you place the camera on your left side so we can see what you doing. Thank you. To add Music is not quite the best solution... better turn on a radio in the background with nice soft music. Thank you
I can't have any other music other than my own or I will receive a copywrite strike. So radio in the background won't work or I would definitely be playing more popular music.
Yes I bring them into the house and set by a West window for winter. I start taking cuttings in the fall if I want more large Mother plants. Then I start cuttings in January for the upcoming season.
I'd sure be appreciative if you would stay in frame. You have real value to teach, but, i could never see exactly how you chose where to cut, nor could I see you actually cutting -- your hand was in the way. Then, when you were trimming & peeling away things after initial cutting, you weren't in frame sometimes :( Thx for doing these! I hope to see more, literally, of what you're doing.
Its Mother's Day today here in Alabama (zone 7b). My husband bought me a beautiful bright pink geranium hanging basket a couple of weeks ago. 🌸 I have transplanted it into a nice large pot on our deck. It gets full morning to around noon sun in its current location. I've had the best luck with geraniums by just giving them full morning sun and keeping yellow/brown leaves trimmed off to keep my geraniums neat and pretty. 🌸 However, I never knew how to take cuttings from a mother plant successfully until I watched your video explaining the steps. You explained and demonstrated the process very well!! I think I will take some cuttings from my new geranium that I love so much! 🌿🌱🌿 Thanks to you I feel confident that my cuttings will thrive and we'll be able to enjoy baby geraniums in a little over a month or so! 🌸🌿 Thank you for all the information you shared!! 🌸🌿🌱🌿🌸
I put mine in the cellar in the winter. They get very little light and no water. In April I start to give them water not a lot though. When they start to show growth I water them more and put them out in spring. They have been through 4 winters this way and have survived well.
I trim mine starting in jan zone 10b. Remove dry leaves and I stick them into the soil. Done. 50% grow. I also stick them in water. I tie all like cuttings with rubber bands and put in water.
Hi, excellent video! I noticed you planted into the pots with dry soil. Did you water them right away? Did they get placed into full sun, or kept in shade?

Geraniums are easy to propagate. I just pruned my lot and compost them, some are growing where I dump them.
Awesome! My neighbor did some yard work. Left geranium out on his "give away" table out front! Now I can enjoy them too!

I just planted my (1)plant outside,in my Garden...I had 4 however 3 died...Tha nk you!!!!
I put cutting in water they root really easily...i leave more leaves on. After lots of roots appear i plant in pot.
I appreciate 😊❤
Don't you use that dusting compound on the bottom of the stem to start your cuttings in the dirt when planting in pots...root hormones?
I dip mine in honey and cinnamon as a rooting hormone
Thanks ‼️
I plant my cutting direct to soil and does fine

Thank you!
Do you know the name of this variety? I love the color!
I don't sorry...
Just found my over wintered geraniums have been growing green leaves in the dark!
Will they bloom?
Thank you for this very informative video. Can you advise me on what is the best fertilizer for geraniums and when to use the fertilizer?

we're all told not to take cuttings from the flower stem
It was brutal watching him cutting those branches with flowers and buds

How do you overwinter in zone 5. Almost everything dies even if you bring it inside 😹
Clip it back, add fertilizer & water. Then I set mine by an West facing window, East or South facing will also work. Make sure you don't over water. I water mine 1 or 2 times a month.
Thank you so much for all this info! Wouldn't it be a her tho? 😂
Does it mattter if it is a seed geranium or zonal?
It doesn't matter. Both will work great.

What time of year do you take the cuttings? Do you take them inside for the Winter?

@@toadstoolgardens9579 Thank you!
What time of year do you cut
Anytime as long as its not too hot.
When the geraniums have rooted and you get leaves at the end of long stems do you cut them off so the plant will bush out?
I don't, I just let them grow...
Do you water the cuttings after they are planted in the small pots?..
Yes, always water after transplanting.
After transplanting when is it time for their sun?
Keep out of sun about 1 week, Transplant after 2-3 weeks. Pull the plant up out of the pot to check roots.
@@toadstoolgardens9579 thank you🌺
Please make a video without the music while you’re talking.
Go to subtitles. You won’t have to,listen to music.
Question fir you after potting them do I put them outside in the shade?
Yes set in shade a few days..
What is the liquid in the second bottle from the left?
Just water. It was probably from my well so its a little Iron heavy.
No root powder or gel?
I only use water.
OUT OF SUNLIGHT????

Hey, thanks! Will this work with annual Geraniums or just the perennial varieties?
Annuals for sure, I haven't tried with perennials, I usually just split the roots on those & replant.
