1st time watching , loved the video ! Thanks, , you make it look easy 😉 👍 👌 😀 😎
@@saragrant3981great information!
Excellent video! Finally someone who shows the whole process and explains things properly. For all beginners: it’s worth mentioning that loads of plants can be propagated this way, not just geraniums… Really, anything with stems and leaf nodes, you can give a try and see what happens!
Thanks. Yes that is a good point 👍🏻
(((( IT WORKED ))))) 3 weeks on and the cutting is still alive ......WHOOOPPPEEEEE .. Lol . Cheers for the vid
That's great news! 👍🏻
Someone ought to call these Nanna plants I learned to love them from my Nan too……lolololol
Yea why not :D
Perfect. This was exactly what I was looking for and you did an excellent presentation. Thank you!
Thanks! 👍🏻
I agree, I came to find just how to take a cutting and there he was! Very informative
@@christinetookey5637 thanks 👍🏻
I had no idea it was this simple and after buying geraniums year after year, I just wonder how much money I could have saved. Thank you.
Your welcome. My great nan's conservatory was full of jars of geranium cuttings. I don't think she ever bought one!
Thanks for your informative and visually instructive offering! Lovely!
I remember my mom being inconsolable over not, even, being able to grow a geranium. I grow them for her. But, I live in a Mediterranean climate; no snow. I just put a brilliant red, geranium hedge on either side of the drive at the gate. The original plant was from a cutting 2 years ago. It was a planned grow for the hedge. If left alone, they'll grow tall and gangly, but trimmed way back, over and over, the line of them likes to be about 4' high and 2' 1/2 wide. Here, they root because there's water! We stick them in the ground, and Mom smiles in my heart. Wherever you live, geraniums will make you happy!
That sounds amazing having a hedge made of geraniums. I remember seeing some quite large ones in Spain. I also feel sentimental about them they remind me of my great nan. And the smell of the stems reminds me of being a kid. 🙂
I love the valuable information, but also the calm voice and music! I’m in! Thank you 🙏
Thank you very much 👍🏻
Thumbs up for your Nan and your great Nan!
Yep 👍🏻
I’ve just watched several geranium propagation videos, and yours is the best by far. Thanks. 😊🇦🇺
Cheers Oscar 👍🏻
I just tried this with my "Big Red" geranium. It is warm here in Australia so it should be OK.🙂
Yes it should work well there I think. 👍🏻
Thank you! Loved that you learnt this from your nan and great nan. I watched this because I just snapped the geranium that was my mum's, which she'd kept from my nan, 25 years ago... this will help me keep the process going 😊🌱
Thanks! Good luck with the cutting!
Excellent - straight to the point, no waffling, easy to follow way to propogate your geraniums! Thanks, Phill!
Cheers your welcome!
My Mom could pick something….stick it in dirt….and it would thrive and grow. I recently propagated a top stem of leaves on a succulent in water. 💦 AND it rooted nicely and now is in a small pot of dirt. Going great!! This is fun!
Ahna
That is awesome!
I searched for over an hour and finally found this video. Answered all my questions. Most geraniums are red in our area, which I don't care for. But recently I found a violet color geranium and I grabbed it up. It was the only one in stock. So now I'm very excited to take cutting and create more of these beautiful violet colors. Thank you so much.
Thank you that's great! 👍🏻
Exactly, when I find a Geranium in a color I like, I always wish I had a whole row or a big barrel full:). Of course I love a riot of colors too - so it will be such fun not to think in terms of economy but rather of enjoying bountiful blooms in a riot of colors for free.
This video was easy to follow no posh soil or anything to add i will be doing this little gardening job this weekend thankyou Phill
Your welcome thank you!
Very good video for growing geraniums and saving money to buy new plants.
Thanks a lot
Thank you. Just bought my 7 year old grandson a geranium and he is now ready to grow his own.
Thanks! That's great!
Thanks for being simple and straight to the point without to much talking. Can't wait to try this.
Thanks Amy 👍🏻
So helpful. Excellent lesson. Been watching for way to keep ALL my favourite geraniums. Can I do this w/ any other prized annuals??? 🙂🙂
Very nice and beautiful ❤️ 😍 🤩 👌 Thank you ❤️ Subscribed! New friend from Virginia ❤❤❤
Thanks and welcome 👍🏻
I tried this after several failed attempts at planting cuttings directly into pots and it worked! What's great about it is you know you're not wasting your time and effort because you can see the root growth already, before you pot it 😊
Great job!
Thank you soooo much for showing me how to use cuttings. I have several huge plants that are doing great and wanted to spread them out into other pots. Good stuff. :-)
Thanks your welcome.
Thank you for the wonderful tips. I love geraniums in my garden. I always wait when they go on sale late summer and buy a lot. Living in Canada, I tried wrapping in newspapers and leaving in the garage for winter. Every year always disappointed, 100% of them died. Last fall chose big plants, put in a pot and leave in my sun room all winter. They all survived and planted outside this summer. This year will try cuttings of my favourite colour. Wish me luck.
Thanks 👍🏻 yea they don't like to be wrapped up. The leaves need air circulation in winter and the roots don't like to be too wet.
Geraniums are from Africa area so won't survive in harsh winter's. Pelargoniums are what Phill is talking about which are winter hardy ( not same plant )
Thanks so much
From New Zealand 🌵🌵

Thank you - 5GB really enjoyed using this in their lesson!
Thank you. Your welcome.
I’m impressed at how well they did, excellent 👍
Thanks Gary. My great nan's conservatory was full of jars of cuttings full of roots (all Geraniums). This method really does work.
And I’ll definitely be giving it a go 👍
Well my brother, this blessed my socks off. Last year I grew some geraniums and tried to do cuttings in dirt. But now that you have schooled me, this year is going to be a lot different Praise God. Thank you and have a blessed day my brother.
Thank you very much for the positive comment and kind words!
Absolutely fabulous! Every one of them rooted and grew just great. It did take longer to root in the initial stages in the windows even though we tried different exposures but once one root appeared it went very fast. We are doing it in every window now and hoping to get them established before winter hits. You have brought us a LOT of happiness with this video. Thank you so much. The instructions were crystal clear. Big hugs from all of us on the farm 👍.
That's great news and thank you Lorayne for taking the time to write such a positive comment. I'm glad the video was helpful. 👍🏻🙂
How long did it take to root? I've had mine in water for 2+ weeks and I see nothing. Should I give a while longer, Lorayne? New leaves are coming on and one is even budding. I see no roots.
@@keith536 The same happened with us...leaves and even a bud and no roots. Ours came in about 4 weeks and we took the buds away as soon as we saw them. Lycka till! (good luck in Swedish)
@@nainy121 OK. I'll be more patient. Thank you for responding.
@@nainy121 Found out what I was doing wrong. The cuttings I did were more of the woody/hard part of the cutting,. Not nice green stems. I cut that brown/woody part off and it started to sprout in 3 days!
I tried this a month ago and it rooted wonderfully!
Excellent 👍🏻
I bought my first Geraniums this year and they look beautiful. Thank you for this video, it is very easy to follow and I will try to grow a new Geranium with this :)
No problem your welcome 👍🏻
I have used this method, and I want to mention it really makes a big difference if you try this late in the year! I did one starting in September, and it took ages to get the roots going!
Good point I agree with that if you are using water. If you use grit then it can work just as well going into the colder months indoors. I made a video about it: ua-cam.com/video/MRBAB4-dG6M/v-deo.html
Excellent. Thank you. 👍
no problem.
Thanks Mate. Great video, very helpful. Greetings from across the pond--Greenville, NC.
Thank you very much! 👍🏻
Thanks for this information, taking cuttings right now for next years garden
Thanks your welcome.
Love Geraniums, they are a cheap but stunning flower. However the achievement of growing your own is what I want to do. Found your video.. brilliantly done. Very easy to follow for an absolute beginner like myself. So I’ve just done the cutting.. it’s in water now on my windowsill. Fingers crossed it will work for me. I love flowers but have no imagination. So if I pull this off I’ll be very proud of myself. Thank you for a fabulous video 🌸🌺🌼🌸
Thank you 👍🏻 you just need to be patient now and eventually the roots should form. My great band conservatory was full of jars of geranium cuttings she did it all the time.
I'm seeing this at the perfect time. It's fall & was wondering what to do with my geraniums. Thanks!
Your welcome
excellent ... easy....and best regards from Vancouver Island
Thank you Helena 👍🏻
God no-nonsense gardening advice. Thanks!
Thank you 👍🏻
I used rainwater because I'm on city water and it worked! Thank you!
Yes fresh rainwater is a good idea. Plants prefer it.
Short and to the point. Thank you!
Thanks your welcome
I punched him how to root and Grill geraniums! I’m so glad I found you!!!! You sound like you have an Irish ☘️ 🇮🇪
No problem your welcome.
Thank you so much for this!
I was thinking of redoing my balcony with geraniums and was researching the plant care, so this is extremely helpful, especially since it’s saving money! I hope it goes well and I do this right!
No problem 👍🏻 try several cuttings in different jars of water. It usually works. Good luck with it 🙂
Omgosh thank you!! I’ve been propagating them by putting them in soil which works but this is easier.
Your welcome 👍🏻
thank you, thank you, thank you! i am doing this! love geraniums and all the different colors i want to plant them all around my house!
Thanks your welcome 👍🏻
Thanks for this very informative video on growing geraniums!!
Your welcome
Very good video. I have never propagated geraniums and now I will try it.
Thanks good luck!🤞🏻
Thanks. I live in a senior apartment setting and wanted some potted plants on the patio. I've sprouted lemon and apple seeds, collected Amaryllis seeds and sprouted them, and I got a rose cane from the local bushes after the maintenance men pruned and am hoping it roots. Now I have a red geranium cane I hope to sprout. Thanks for the clear simply stated and demonstrated instructions!
That sounds great Dee 👍🏻 you sound like a keep gardener. Good luck growing your geraniums and other plants!
This is wonderful. I’m going to do this process today. Thanks
Good luck!
Wow. That was great! Thank you for this video! I’m going to do this all summer long!
Thanks your welcome 👍🏻
I live in New Zealand. We have very mild winters. I take cuttings all year round. I leave the cutting lying out in the soil for 24 hours so the cut stem dries out. Then I put the cutting in the soil and it grows. Easy as that. Sometimes I cloche them in the winter by using a clear plastic bottle cut in half, with the bottle top removed.
Yes this is also a good way of growing them.
Brilliant I was wondering how to get more geraniums without buying anymore. Then I found this video today Thanks!
Thanks! Your welcome.
I work at a greenhouse and got permission to take some geranium cuttings to keep on my balcony and after summer as indoor plants. Very excited for them to grow. Doing lots of research on how to overwinter then and such
That sounds great! I have another video on taking cuttings in colder months if you are interested here is the link to the video: ua-cam.com/video/MRBAB4-dG6M/v-deo.html
@clownfern
I overwinter all my various varieties of geraniums in my garage. I just bring the whole container in. I spray them really well with neem oil when I bring in so I am not spreading any pests to the other annuals that I also bring in.
I water every 3 weeks just to keep soil moist not soggy as you don’t want them to rot. I also pull off all the lower leaves as I found that helps. They will start to look sick in the winter and this is normal as they are tired from producing flowers all spring and summer.
I keep my garage at 50 degrees and use grow lights on timers.
I snip off any flowers or buds coming up and watch for pests. If you see any spray with neem right away. By taking off the buds and flowers through the winter you will get nice thick stems vs small spindly ones. Check the stems regularly when you water…if they feel soft and not firm cut that stem out.
I also keep a fan going for air circulation.
I know some people bring them indoors but I don’t as I have to many houseplants that I don’t want to take a chance of bringing in some pest.
You can also overwinter other annuals like impatiens, diamond euphorbia, mountain euphorbia, coleus, penny vines, ect. These are shade loving annuals so I keep those under a table or my citronella & elephant ears I keep in a darker corner in the garage. Just keep in mind your sun or shade lovers as you wouldn’t want a shade/partial shade plant directly under your grow lights because it would get fried.
Hope this helps save you some money from repurchasing the plants you love. Also all of these can be propagated!
It's important to keep the water clean. I just threw mine into a jar of dirty water and after a month only one rooted, but surprisingly, the others started blooming!
Yes I usually change the water every few days to prevent algae growing and getting to the roots.
Just what I was looking for! Excellent job showing us how this is done! Now, off to try it!
Thanks & good luck 👍🏻

Hey Phil! Here we are on a dairy farm in northern Sweden just a few hours from the Arctic Circle and we have each taken a geranium plant and followed your instructions! So fun! We are hoping it works. Thanks for the video, very easy to follow, and wish us "lycka till" (good luck in Swedish) with our geranium propagating.
Hi Lorayne! They are quite easy to grow from cuttings and it's much cheaper too. I'm sure yours will turn out just fine no luck needed 👍🏻
How was it ؟
You can also put the branch directly in a soil, and they will grow,I learned this from my father and was doing it all the time.
Best of luck🎉🎉
perfect , just the information i needed.

Thank you friend 🙂

Wow! Now I know where I have been going wrong. I should be using water to root my cuttings. Thank you Phill
No problem your welcome!
I love it because it's translated in Korean.I didn't know English, so I just watched the video and it was so good
Thank you 👍🏻
Thanks for the tips. I'm going to try this
Your welcome. Good luck!
Love it. I just bought a geranium plant today so hopefully it can grow well and I can start propagating it 😊🌱
Also - does the main stem you took the cutting from grow back ?
@@acts.412 they don't grow back although new shoots come off from where the plant is cut making it more robust and less prone to getting too long and floppy.
Thanks and good luck 🤞🏻
@@PhillWyattProjects thank you !🙏
Thank you so much for this simple and clear explanation. You provided a lot of information without being repetitive. I loved your illustrations.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you.
Short, sweet, and full of information. Thank you.
Thanks Carolyn 🙂
thank you! very clearly explained, can't wait to try it out 🤗
Cheers!
Maybe I'm just lucky, but I just stick the cutting in dirt where I want them planted and they root and grow. Love geraniums!
Yes this is also a good method.
This has never worked for me 🤷♀️
I have geraniums in my garden so will try this
Go for it 👍🏻

Thank you so much, Phill. This was so helpful.
Your welcome Molly
Thank you so much for this hon geraniums used to be my mother’s favorite flower before she went to heaven and I have really developed a love for them myself they are so easy to grow and bring so much color and joy clear till frost so it will be nice not to know how to do cuttings from them and hopefully save them through the winter because at four dollars each at our greenhouse I spent a fortune this past summer doing my elderly father‘s yard💚❤️💛🌱🪴🌱🪴
Thank you your welcome. This is great to save money on plants. The cuttings seem to grow even faster than the plant they came off in many cases. Thank you for the positive comment!
Great video and you explain and show it in a simple way. I'm ready to start with my geranium from this past summer. Hopeful to have a bunch for my balcony next year without having to buy new ones. 😊
Thank you very much and good luck! 👍🏻🤞🏻
