Over the course of time I've been lucky enough to have seen some of the individual musicians in this Headhunters band live in their own individual projects
Herbert Hancock is easily the greatest and best jazz pianist and Keyboard player that's out there and for those of you that know he's been around a hell of a long time; he's a living legend.
Wrong,................there is no such thing as "Best".........consider McCoy, Bill Evens.....Fats Waller,.....Count Basie...........etc., etc..........they are all unique as the spices in your kitchen,.........F', get a brain,...........all the spices are unique and all are essential..........get some wisdom..........
One of my favorites by Mr. Herbie Hancock....who am I kidding their all my favorites. Mr. Hancock sir thank you for decades of wonderful music. May your sound and concepts live forever. Your music always inspires me sir. Blessings.
A great cast on a live version of an awesome track.... and wow!!!! Marcus Miller (the 'Grand national funk champion' as he was once described by Dave Grusin) being so damn audacious on that bass clarinet there. Marcus is one that can seeming play any song on pretty much any instrument.
0:16 if you play with Herbie ...make sure he doesn't look over his shoulder to cue you in ;-) I love that concert, it's one of my favs on youtube. This intro to "Butterfly" is Herbie's piano/keyboard style in a nutshell; I cannot talk about the solo... it's out of this world.
I always thought that playing slow, yet still groovy funk is way more difficult than doing it fast....well the composer of this tune and the "guest-bass-clarinetist" know all about this ;-)
So many of the comments do not embrace the essence of African American Classical music. WE flow with the spirit of the music.Greatest is spread far and wide across the personalities of our musical galaxies. DIG?
I love seeing little mistakes like that. It’s funny how Herbie juggled with it, played while adjusting and playing the piano and keytar until he had a moment to get it to cooperate!
@@DoobieV Yeah he got whip sawed for a minute back to the piano, it's turned down now back to the Korg it's turned down.. Just leave the volume turned up Tokyo!
So I'm a bass player. Totally forgot Marcus Miller was the one who did the bass clarinet on this song. I've been getting kind of obsessed and wanted to try bass clarinet because of this song mostly. So now I have a bass clarinet and only now do i realize: 1, low c clarinets exist And 2, that is obviously not the instrument i now own. .... FML
Does anyone know how the percussionist made the conga sounds at the beginning? The pwooom sound effect :p I can't seem to find it or how it's called anywhere on the internet..
Let's agree on that he might have had better education on the clarinet... But his skill level on the bass is undoubtedly superiour to his clarinet playing.
Giovanni , pedrito , yosvani , vizcaino , changuito even Daniel ponce ,,, what are you doing Herbie !?!?!? Put a conguero on the sale level as Terry Lynn Carrington and yourself !!!
My mon tried when i was a child to make me play guitar it wasn't for me ...Here I am 15+ years later giving a try to clarinet pretty sure it's more my cup of tea than guitar....I guess it's never too late for anything ! PS: Guitar is too hard 🤣
This tune transports the listener to another place. One of Herbie's most sublime compositions...
Eargasm, yes lord. Herbie Hancock is from another planet, unreal, unbelievable...
RIP the GOAT Roy Hargrove!

I have lost count on how many times I have listened to this. Rest in Peace Roy Hargrove. You are an inspiration!

Omg, this guy do anything.
Marcus used to play all instruments in his first albums.

Does Wah Wah have a guitar pick for a tongue??
It is hard to see how this got any dislikes. I guess some folks need to stay in their lanes.

#royhargrove
I swear I've seen the guy in yellow before in a Matrix movie

Many people don't know, but MM is a better clarinetist than bass player, being classically trained on the bass clarinet.
Let's agree on that he might have had better education on the clarinet... But his skill level on the bass is undoubtedly superiour to his clarinet playing.
+stefanguels I would go that far, he's probably equally as great. He wouldn't have been playing bass clarinet with Miles if he wasn't a beast.
Giovanni , pedrito , yosvani , vizcaino , changuito even Daniel ponce ,,, what are you doing Herbie !?!?!?
Put a conguero on the sale level as Terry Lynn Carrington and yourself !!!
Are you crazy Mr. Hancock ?
Good for blood circulation
FIRE THE CONGA PLAYER
