No...there is no period just because you say it. He is perfectly entitled to his thoughts, but he's not spouting anything complex that we all haven't questioned before. Faith is a vastly complex feeling..
No way you're going to bow tie it up in one sentence and call it a day. That's simple minded and cowardly.

I was raised catholic in Europe. As someone interested in all genders romantically, I was repeatedly told it was unnatural and a sin. I was made to feel guilty for being who I am, despite harming nobody. I left religion behind because I felt like it was a way to control people based on one person/a group of people’s lives. Ghost go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome at a show, it’s the most incredible thing I’ve ever been apart of. So he’s not wrong. He’s still out there, going out of his way to thank everyone for coming to see them even if it might be a struggle. He’s so humble and grateful, even in his stage persona.

It is true. People that fits "LGBT" (not talking about the community, but rather the sex orientation) are very oppressed inside a religious group, especially catholicism. And I'm very sorry about that.
However, it's important to know how to differenciate a religous group or institution from the religion itself. Men took the idea of Christianity and transformed it into something they can use to manipulate other people, or to control. But that's not the idea of the religion itself.
I'm a christian myself, and I sin every single day because that's my nature, that's human nature. The sin you commit is just as bad as the sin I commit. From my point of view, this is what most of the christians miss, and they lose their time judging someone else's sins, and sometimes even hating on those people for being just as human. Unironically, they are sinning just by doing that and deviating from the teachings.
I understand that the only way to minimize how often one sins is to follow the Lord's and Jesus' teachings. However, following this teachings does NOT mean that one is willingly choosing to be oppressed.
Following the teachings is, first of all, understanding that we, as humans, can be very evil, twisted and sinful. Is to understand that we are not perfect creatures, rather we are very much flawed - and that these imperfections can very well lead to ruin, not only in a phylosofical way, but mentally and physically too. So we _need_ something to keep us on the rails. How so?!
Well, if we look at the teachings in a simplistic way, we would conclude that at their core they're rules, and rules are important to keep a system in check and functional, or even healthy - the system, here, being our human nature.
If we would exclude the rules, then men would be beastly and libertine. Well, there are many that already are even with the existence of the rules, imagine a society without them at all.
Now, let's imagine a world without rules, or teachings (might they be from Christianity or not). What would become of society?
Each individual has his own way of being bad or evil; of being curious about this or that they're not really supposed to be part of, or to try. These temptations would start to flourish, and it would be very hard not to fall for them. I'd argue that not falling for it wouldn't even happen because the idea of "not supposed to" wouldn't exist.
But trying these things out can be very dangerous.
Let's say, for example, drugs. You could argue that drugs are dangerous and objectively bad, and that no one would try it. Yet, even with the "rules" we have and knowledge about it, people still try it, and many people are made slaves to them. Imagine what the idea of not having boundries for it could make to the masses...
Well, how about sex, then? Sex is dangerous! In many ways, it is dangerous, especially for women. Women, biologically, are more sensitive to sex. That are many hormones and brain chemicals that become active during sex - for both genders.
During sex, you're supposed to feel attached to the other, it's supposed to happen in a relationship where there's genuine feelings and mutual trust.
But when the act is performed between two people that don't really feel for one another, or that don't really know or trust each other (or more, depending on how these people would want to express their drive or curiosity), not only does the brain get in a state of "confusion" to the point that it affects negatively the way one feel or see people around them, but also it leads to a scenario of pure danger. Anything is possible. And it's also a situation that one is very vulnerable.
Deliberate sex spreads diseases, can lead to abortion or undesired children, which will soon lead to a thorned society...
That's why sex is "designed", or thought to be between two people that know one another very well and are very intimate. And here, gender or sexuality has nothing to do it, it doesn't matter, as long as you're following concepts that don't put yourself or the other in danger.
      The list goes on...
So can see how rules are important to humanity. Even though they don't make us perfect, it keeps us on the tracks.
It's in this idea that Christianity comes into play. The teachings and preachings are to be held as the "ultimate rules". Those that come directly from God. Surely, the Creator knows what's best for us, what's necessary for us not to fall into ruin, so He left the teachings through many ways, especially through Jesus Christ. (I'm now expressing myself like this because I believe in God).
Nowadays, we live in a society that is slaved to a twisted idea of freedom, and people become so self-absorved in their idea of being free from rules or expressing themselves, mostly in a hedonistic way, that they often lose their sense of what freedom actually is.
Freedom is not living without rules. Freedom is, in my opinion, a way to express and put into practice your virtues and values without having something to hold you back, while having commandments or rules to keep you within the boundries, and that attempts to make you not to screw up your own life and body. There's a difference between the two ideas, whilist they walk hand to hand.
I think this is a perfect opportunity to talk about Satan. Satan is, keeping it short, the opposite of what the rules want to convey. Satan wants humanity to break from the rules and to express their nature at the fullest, because this drives one's soul and thoughts away from values, virtues, God's teachings, etc.
The evil Satan represents is actually the evil in a sense that is opposed to what is good (for us). It sounds like an obvious sentence, right? Haha
But what I want to say is that Satan wants humanity very far away from what keeps us within boundries (of what is good).
He's been achiving this in many ways, and one of the most successful ways is him whispering to humanity that he's not real.
That said, let's head back to the initial topic:
You shouldn't feel guilty or ashamed about what you are, you beliving in God or not.
People who are oppresing you for what you are and judging it as a sin shouldn't get the best of you. Don't let that happen.
The idea, might you be gay or not, is not to go against the teachings (the rules) by living a rebelious or hedonistic life, because that will be objectively bad for you. And doing harm to youserl makes God very sad because He loves you!
Instead of living the "freedom" Devil wants you to live, live a life worth living. Evolve your thoughts, your soul, build up values, use your virtues for the greater good...
(I'm not saying that you don't already, I'm just emphasizing)
Men, unfortunately, made religious into something very "hateful", and that's a shame.
P.S.: This is a very long comment. I wrote it on a cellphone, and English is not my first languague. So I ask you to forgive any typo or bad grammar. LoL

There is a big difference between making someone feel "bad" due to useful criticism that might help them to improve and telling someone that they are so intrinsically awful that they deserve to suffer for all of eternity (and the only reason they wont is because the creator of the universe is merciful and loving, which prevents said creator from giving that person what they actually deserve). Telling a child that they deserve to be tortured forever (what I was told in Church) is what Tobias was talking about when he referred to being made to feel bad. His gripe with the church was not that he is against some common sense moral instruction with sensible limits on behavior. C'mon man.

Great discussion. What I think often gets overlooked is that the problem isn't with JESUS, it's with THE CHURCH. It's the church manipulating and interpreting the Bible in ways that have nothing to do with the teachings of Christ, and everything to do with control, even greed. The Church has condemned marginalized people for centuries, and it aggressively furthers their marginalization. The world would be a much better place if Christians would universally reject the hateful and controlling teachings of their church and adhere to the actual teachings of Christ - kindness, selflessness, humility, love, peace... all that hippie stuff.

You should consider the fact that Sweden is the most secular country in the world. You can have control without religion, and religion should have no part in how a country is governed. I was baptized and have done my confirmation, but I am not religious in any way. We learn about all major religions early on and all through school, so us swedes are often quite well informed on religion and different belief systems, even though we don't take part ourselves. For me personally, I am not a fan of The Church, and I hate what some people do in the name of religion.

I feel like Tobias has had a rough world view shaping based on abrasive religious experiences-Catholicism mainly. I’m a Christian but you can bet I’ve experienced my fair share of hypocrisy, toxicity, disappointments, etc in the church. I didn’t let it destroy my faith though. The church is made up of imperfect people inside 4 walls doing their best (although still sinful people). Christianity is in the heart and soul of the individual. Christianity is unfairly judged by conditions of the people inside of the 4 walls…

What a terrible strawmanning of his position. Kind of wrecklessly, too-I might add. Also, Satanism and Humanism aren’t the same, either. However, speaking for humanism, it seeks through reason to seek the best for mankind; that means from all perspectives including mental health and sexual wellness and health. Therefore, it doesnt not see pedophilia as a good thing-but a heinous act. Terrible for the health and well being of the victim. Even Satanism doesn’t condone sexual advances without the consensual agreement of both parties.

Completely disagree with what you said about children being born hedonistic. The example you gave to back up as to them needing food and to be changed and etc are bad examples. Children need those things for the basic needs of life. They aren't for PLEASURE. Pleasure are for things that give enjoyment but don't fulfill the basic needs of survival. People need to eat and drink to stay alive. Please rethink this.
Also, its a bit odd to say a surgeon goes to school to WOUND YOU??? No, they go to school to learn how to help people who have suffered wounds to not be suffering any longer with that wound. Your premise here is difficult to follow.
From my understanding, Tobias' background has to do with Catholicism in his childhood. The problem with Catholicism is that humans have taken it upon themselves to manipulate religion to control and for evil ways, and don't even get me started on how the hierarchy of the church equating humans as direct lines to God (aka priests, popes, etc). Doing that is actually so contradictory to what they preach its not even funny. All believers have a direct line to God. One doesn't need to go to a certain human in order to tell God something or to have stronger connection with Him. That connection exists between a believer and God himself through prayer. While there's benefits to religion, there's also so many negatives to it as well.
You bring up the example of the pedos, but then there's these constructs of religion to shield exactly those kinds of people who are in the positions of power, the churches who turned a blind eye and shuffled priests who were molesting kids and weren't facing consequences.
I grew up learning Christian and Catholicism so I know first hand what is taught and ingrained into followers. I consider myself a believer in Christ, but I can't consider being a part of a church or organized aspect of it.

Religion is in the past, everyone needs to move and learn for themselves instead of believing in a god in order to make them believe to be a better person is a mind manipulation game, just be yourself.

My issue with Christianity stems from being told the Dalai Lama was going to hell because he didn't believe in the same things when I was younger. And it just totally turned me off to the entire premise. "God" this higher consciousness really has that big of a bloated ego he cares more about what you call him then what you do? Cause the stuff the Dalai Lama represents is more Christian than most Christians. I'm just not buying it. It is not rational at all.
“We can reject everything else: religion, ideology, all received
wisdom. But we cannot escape the necessity of love and compassion....
This, then, is my true religion, my simple faith. In this sense, there is no need
for temple or church, for mosque or synagogue, no need for complicated
philosophy, doctrine or dogma. Our own heart, our own mind, is the temple.
The doctrine is compassion. Love for others and respect for their rights and
dignity, no matter who or what they are: ultimately these are all we need.
So long as we practice these in our daily lives, then no matter if we are
learned or unlearned, whether we believe in Buddha or God, or follow some
other religion or none at all, as long as we have compassion for others and
conduct ourselves with restraint out of a sense of responsibility, there is
no doubt we will be happy.”

That's not why he's going to hell dude, it's because he hasn't made Jesus his personal saviour. It has nothing to do with what YOU do, which is called works. Its what Jesus did on the cross. @@jayspin8093 Because God has this thing called the Law, we have this on Earth too no? If you break the law in your country and are caught doing so, you get punished. Why in the blue blazes would you assume it works any differently with God? No one can earn their way into Heaven pal. Even the Dalai Lama has broken God's law, everyone has.
So what you're telling me is that if you were caught speeding and you went to court you'd just say to the judge "Oh look judge, I'm really sorry, I'm a good person, I give to charity every month, I didn't know I was doing 60mph in a 30 zone, I promise I won't do it again, can you let me off?"
That judge is going to look at you and probably laugh first, and then because he's a good judge and sticks to the rules he's going to punish you for speeding. And that's exactly how it works with God. No amount of pleading your case is going to appease a holy God. He's going to punish you for breaking his law.
As for "he cares more about who you pray to then what you do", well yes, that's because Jesus is his son, he was sent by God to this earth to die on a cross for YOUR sins, so that you might be forgiven and go to heaven. It's got nothing to do with praying. You can pray to Jesus and still not go to heaven.
Let's got back to the courtroom example. If you're going to be fined because you were caught speeding and the judge is going to fine you, if another person pays your fine the judge will say you're free to go. That's what Jesus did when he died on the cross. He paid the fine for our sin. Sin means we have broken God's law. If Jesus pays our fine God will absolve us of our sins. But to be forgiven of your sins in the first place you would need to come to Jesus with a repentant heart to begin with. Repent means to change your thinking and stop doing those behaviours that cause you to sin. Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and ask him to be your Lord and saviour, ask him to come into your life and change you. Only when you do that will you be forgiven by God for your sins.
You said "You can be the most horrible person on earth" and still get into heaven correct? Wrong. You cannot. And you are thinking in human terms, there is no such thing as more or less horrible to God. You have either broken his law (sin) or you haven't. A "horrible person"
would have had to repent, asked Jesus for forgiveness of their sins and then completely changed their behaviour to get into heaven. As Jesus himself said "you will know them by their fruits" meaning their behaviour. A truly repentant person will change their behaviour and start living as a disciple of Jesus Christ, and strive every day to be more like him, to love God and to love their neighbour (which means everyone basically).
To repeat, no-one gets to heaven by their works as all have broken God's law and must be punished, just as we are punished here on Earth for breaking the law in the country that we live in.

The law of commiting to Jesus is there to be able to separate people and send the majority of them to burn in eternity for the sake of gods vanity. Does that sound like a good god?
To follow Jesus you need conviction. For a grown person to be convinced he needs to experience convincing events or at least be able to put the clues together in a convincing way. Its not like anyone can say "ofcourse God exist, I'll prove it for you now.". Its not like people know Jesus and exist and deny him as he asks you to join him. I enjoyed the debate, but Tobias spoke of the control the Church has on people. Not what control government and laws dictate on people. As a former member of the KoC I've seen a fair amount of the behind the scenes world. I didn't like it. It was more than enough to walk away from the church and I was a happier, calmer, less judgmental person from it. The church creates fear and control. You need to go to confession as a law of church per priests "or else". You need to have your child baptized "or else". You need to keep holy the Sabbath day and if you have a job that makes you work Sundays, you need to leave your job. What Tobias was saying is his view is freedom from that. You don't have to be guilty for doing something you want to do that is perfectly legal. Under the Church you can be guilty for wanting to do something perfectly legal. Some of the bible states you should be put to death for things that are perfectly legal.
He also led out with a good point what tragedies have occurred in history due to Satanic beliefs in comparison to Salem Witch Trials, Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades, the enduring war of Catholics versus Protestants? What moment in recorded history has had near such impacts associated to Satanic belief/religion compared to Christianity? It was a good point. Think also how many people that call themselves Christians would stop in their tracks if they ran through the Book of Leviticus?

    • @VinAndSori

Who determines what “perfectly legal”? And on what basis. All laws are simply moral judgements reinforced by states. In Germany it was “perfectly legal” to kill jews. In America it was perfectly legal to kidnap folks and sell them. So the fact that an action is “perfectly legal” doesn’t make criticism of it false

That's why I take the Alice Cooper qoute " The last thing you want is religion, what you want is a relationship with Christ " I always believed religion was made by man and centered it around Christ to get different denominations to fight, to get atheists to fight with Christians. I am a believer and I am cool with spirituality and faith but once man tries to take control of it all, that's where I have a problem.

Exactly, I live my faith as a Christian personally. I read the Bible at my house, I go to a non denominational church during the Holidays with my family most of us grew up catholic but we didn't like the organized side of a lot of churches. Our personal relationship with Christ felt it should be between us and God. I find a lot of Christians doing that these days.

@@VinAndSori The laws do. Not the church. Because then we would not be able to go down and shop on the sabbath. Which also are different days depending on WHAT religion. Because that would be illegal if the bible was law. Your arguing that its the religion that decides what is legal, which it isn't and THAT is what Tobias means. The Church isn't the one deciding whats legal and it shouldn't be, which your arguments here clearly shows.

I get the point you guys are making about Tobias imposing himself/his personality onto other people. If you'd ask me and if the world were black and white he definitely is one of the good guys if you could label people "good" or "evil" without any nuances to begin with. I mean, if you could measure the amount of very positive things he gave us (by us I mean the community/fans that support him) you'd see it this way and I think you do because you like his music. I think the point is that one should not need a church or religion in order to be a good person or to live a good life and do the things you like while helping others which he clearly does. To me he seems to be focusing too much on the negative aspects of religion and seems to think the whole thing is about control and oppression though which is clearly not the case. Religion can also bring a lot of positive things to one's life. I think you guys are a perfect example of this. I also think people need something to believe in. Tobias believes in his pop cultural Devil. You guys believe in God. No offense but it's essentially the same thing (by this I mean the feeling of believing in an "entity" if you will which is a basic human need). Where it all goes downhill is when people think religion entitles them to behave unacceptably, which is the main source for the lyrical content he produces, artwork and lore..
You guys shouldn't take his views on the church too seriously though because his views are clearly mostly based on historical events. If you'd look at his personal history you'd see he had some pretty traumatic experiences with strict Christians as a kid which is what started his rebellion against Christianity but never in an agressive or abusive way, only by expressing himself through his art, which he does extremely well. While he like to shock people the guy is truly a musical mastermind. To him, his "pop cultural devil" represents freedom but not lawlessness or anarchy and I think for him it's mainly about his art/the music itself so he tends to oversell the whole popcultural devil/oppression by Christianity minset a little.
Long story short: You shouldn't read that much into the whole "Satanic mindset" mumbo jumbo and just enjoy his music. In the end that's what Satan wants ;-) (I'm just kidding of course)
Regards, an agnostic theist / utilitarian who believes in Ghost ;-)

I agree religions of all shapes have changed their ways of getting people in the door, things like Hillsong would have been pretty popular when I was a kid but more and more sus shit comes out about them every year.
The concern over 'if people didn't have religion they would do this' doesn't hold water for me, if someone is a kleptomaniac, pedophile, rapist or murderer, those things are all already illegal, the punishment is here and now for them, hopefully, if the only thing stopping that behavior is the idea of heaven so many religious leaders and the entire catholic church wouldnt be based around housing and protecting pedophilic rapists.

The Old Testament has rules for keeping people as property, sell them or give them to your children. I've never seen a passage in either OT or NT where owning another person as property is condemned. Slavery was defended by Christians and condemned equally, like in South Africa, so our modern view on slavery is more down to humanism than an overarching condemnation by the world religions and their leaders. Here’s the deal for me.
I have nothing against personal faith. It helps people come to terms with issues that effect us all and I’ll never be unhappy with anyone having their own beliefs. However, organised religion have caused more deaths over the last 1000 years than any other ideology ever invented. I don’t care whether it’s catholic, Protestantism, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism or Hinduism. I keep all of them at arm’s length.
When I was 14 I was baptised and confirmed in the Church of England as I felt that it wasn’t as restrictive as Catholicism and gave people more liberties than the ‘old faith’. Not long after our vicar left and a replacement took over and when it came to the time to pass out the collection plate, he said verbatim “I want to hear a wrinkle (of a bank note) and not a tinkle (of a coin) and that’s when I realised they were just as bad. I lost all belief in organised religion at that point.
I don’t subscribe to satanism either because that’s just another cheek if the same arse as far as I’m concerned as being part of the same belief system.
Since 1989, I just believe in being the best person you can be and making sure those around you are taken care of if they can’t look after themselves. You can uphold Christian values without being a Christian.
    Yours sincerely,
    An atheist. 👍🏻

Evangelism only makes you feel good about yourself if you fit into the frame of evangelism already, or is being learned/raised into their beliefs. Anyone outside will be seen as faulty, wrong and a sinner and those are not positive things to motivate people feeling good about themselves. This is the core issue with "fanaticals" that they wont accept other peoples beliefs and lifes and are fundamentaly seen as sinners, which then means that they are going to burn eternaly for their crimes. This is the big clash, cause they dont believe or feel they are doing something wrong but the Church is trying to make them feel bad about themselves for their choices in life. Just cause I live a way without religion doesnt mean im evil, my beliefs are not affecting anyone in a negative way at all, so who are Church to tell me im wrong when they are literaly hurting and judging people FUNDAMENTALY. Its insanity to me.

I just finished watching the video @VinAndSori very interesting opinion, however I think you're taking it out of context. When he's referring to feeling like shit, He's not talking about somebody doing wrong to them. I believe he's simply talking about the negative emotions that they're having in that environment. I understand you're saying that evangelicals like to push a positive feeling, which is a half truth. What they like to do is say that you're missing something and they can bring that to you in the name of God, obviously for a price $. Also when putting things in the context of good and evil, and what theists have done historically, just remember all the people that have murdered in the name of God. I think if you would look, I think you'll overwhelmingly see a very different outlook on theists historically. You may not agree with all those historical theists views, but ultimately they were theists.
