I absolutely love Ghost. I went to see them recently and got to meet Tobias (IN character) as part of a VIP package. He was so kind and nice. I will never forget it.
This is one of my favorite interviews he's done. Because while Tobias Forge is very funny and silly at times, he possesses an intellect not shown by many artists today. His ability to convey his thoughts in a language not native to him is very eloquent and shows a deep understanding for what's happening beyond the bubble he lives in. He's incredibly well read, which in turn makes for these wonderfully deep songs. The new record has been on full repeat almost nonstop since it came out in my house. While Satan may not make an explicit appearance, the inherent evil and exploitation that sits within organized religion is on full display. When speaking about the black goo that's built up inside people, I was reminded of the slime in Ghostbusters 2. It made whatever emotion you were feeling more intense and made the characters act irrationally. Much of what happens to the knee jerk, sofa warriors of today. Forge makes it easier and more accepted to say you're an atheist. I've been some flavor of atheist since high school (I'm 37 now), and it's only been recently I could tell people comfortably that I'm an atheist, despite rising numbers of non religious people, at least in the states. There are always people who are so surprised he's well read and well spoken when it's always been my experience that people in the metal and punk scene are extremely intelligent and well spoken.
Man, Every time I hear Tobias Forge talk, I feel like I just got out of class lol. He's such a smart dude, and a brilliant songwriter on top of it. Not to mention, just the natural creative writing ability he has, in the way he forms these broad concepts infused in each album, the way the wardrobe and characters evolve throughout the even broader arc of Ghost's career... it's truly an amazing thing to behold.
Man, Tobias is an amazing person. So intelligent, creative articulate and thoughtful, as well as extremely talented. I'm a fairly recent follower and listener to Ghost and I have to say I am currently obsessed by this man and his music.
I have so much respect for this man. This album, Ghost as a band over the last few years- have meant so much to me. The blending of such playful fun and joy with reflections on issues that still hit deep. Sometimes we need that playfulness and flexibility to really reflect on who we are- make room for growth and healing.

The other band member lose no longer with the band was also a very good speaker. He also sounded quite intelligent but you couldn't tell who he was cuz he'd always wear the mask.
There is something very ironic about Ghost and Tobias. Many artists and bands want to be "authentic" and "true". But their music is just entertainment. And there is Ghost. Fully theatrical, fully created and scripted with all its characters but the lyrics are discussing so real things and are truthfull to human nature. Like we are finding the authenticity somewhere where most people wouldn't expect that.
Not sure why everyone is always so surprised that Tobias is actually an intelligent, informed human. He could never have achieved what he has if he wasn’t so. And he just happens to fucking rock. 👻
i'm probably saying this for a 100th time but, seriously i could listen to him talk for days. i missed these interviews (shoutout to the interviewer too!) sooo hyped for the album
I already loved Ghost but this was a fantastic interview. Tobias was thoughtful, and circumspect, and thorough. I especially loved his line about how he thinks we will see empires fall in our time but he "believes in America, and rock and roll, and the dream." He's an absolute class act.
Him wearing a Dismember T-shirt makes me happy. I remember seeing them live like 1 15 years ago in Stockholm.. I was just in the front of the stage almost getting the singers sweat in my face as he was kicking ass on stage.. 2 minutes later I was in the back of the crowd, not really sure how I got there. One song later I was back in the front now pushed against the riot fence so hard that my feet was no longer touching the floor.. leaning over the fence.. Headbanging lmao.. Some good memories to some good Swedish Deathmetal right there.
Ghost's records were never about just rock n' roll and that's what I like most in this band! I'm really curious to find out what Tobias has in store for us in this new album! Great interview!
Fantastic interview, super interesting. Thanks for doing this and asking about the song/title meanings, Tobias' thinking behind them. Have been a big fan of Ghost for years and will be for years to come 🤘💀
Forces you to think- yes! It does. And that's one of many reasons why it's amazing. The best music does just that. But also serves as an emotional release.
I've listened to him on so many interviews, he has so much knowledge about a lot of things that I'm actually surprised that he hated school so much...but then again, who didn't? I mean, with all his knowledge he should have a doctoral degree in philosophy or something.
Most of us who like to learn don’t like to be forced to learn certain things, so it makes sense that we hate school because they don’t let us learn certain things and they make us learn other things we aren’t really interested in.
You learn all that outside of school. You really don’t need a degree to speak with such intelligence. Most people who have degrees don’t have a job in their career path (not all) but most I know are either working in minimum wage jobs with degrees. So by all this is mostly about life learning experience, learning from people, and seeing the world in your eyes on how you see it
I love how tongue in cheek Tobias is when he (repeatedly) refers to those mind sets and behaviors being in the past, thank god, when I can just see at the back of his mind he's thinking how much worse Neanderthals we are today than we were back then and how we've learned nothing from those lessons of the past.
Tobias is so down to earth and at the same time very well read and game changing. Listening to this album now after hearing this interview I pick up on so much more. I mean I picked up a lot right away, but you hear something new every time you listen after hearing the writer talk about their music. And his English is AMAZING. I don't feel like he's from Sweden lol. I have some family who hates that I listen to Ghost, my daughters listen to them with me. They are religious and just seen the dark side. But I don't feel like Ghost is dark and satanic. They sing about what's going on and how they feel about it.
An amazingly eloquent and intelligent man with a complete lack of arrogance which is so hugely refreshing!! His songwriting and creativity is on another level. I was absolutely blown away by their performance at the O2 in London last week - absolutely incredible band!
I just got into Ghost yesterday and right now I'm binging interviews to learn more about them. THIS is hands down one of the best interviews I have ever seen! 🙌 It's more of an intellectual and philosophical conversation/discussion than a classic interview and both the interviewer and Tobias are so eloquent. I'm absolutely amazed by the interesting, inspiring, thought-provoking and wise words both of them said, this goes really deep and makes you think a lot. I love it! 🖤 Big thanks to the fantastic interviewer, who asked such original, exciting, deep questions and really got into the songs and the lyrics specifically in preparation for this. On top of all of that this had a really nice and relaxed atmosphere to it. It was just a delight to watch and I would actually listen to a podcast made by these two for hours and hours! Great conversation! 🙌
I'm 46 and I agree , the world was a much happier place . No internet , no cell phones . All our friends had meeting spots in the city to all hang out instead of playing cell phone tag or playing video games for endless hours . Rock music was at it's absolute peak with Grunge and Metal . People weren't strung out on Fentanyl , Heroin , Pills and Meth . We just smoked weed , drank a little beer and had shrooms on occasion . No social justice or woke warriors , no homeless camps , no political drama or freaks dressed up like women walking around . The economy was great , I could pay my rent in 1 pay check at 19 years old making $14 per hour . Concerts were better , movies were better hell I'd wager just about everything was better , then the internet happened 😉

Can’t wait for this album to drop.
The other band member lose no longer with the band was also a very good speaker. He also sounded quite intelligent but you couldn't tell who he was cuz he'd always wear the mask.
@@mr.logicpants2835 that was usually Tobias

100% haha. Nailed it
@@furseal2004 Yeah I could see that being him and using a different accents.
Forge is a brilliant songwriter. Love Ghost.
What a nice, grounded and extremely talented guy. The new album is seismic on every level!! Respect is due... 🤟😎
His smile at 20:27 is so incredibly cute. You just have to adore this man.
This interview was very sweet. I am going to look up the interviewer, because he seemed genuine, as well.
This is such a great interview. It's great to hear these great insights from Tobias and all the inspiration that goes into making his albums.
What a fantastic interview. Great questions, great responses.
Not sure why everyone is always so surprised that Tobias is actually an intelligent, informed human. He could never have achieved what he has if he wasn’t so. And he just happens to fucking rock. 👻
This!! His songwriting alone proves that he is extremely intelligent, and not only that, but that he continues to learn. Love this comment!
i'm probably saying this for a 100th time but, seriously i could listen to him talk for days. i missed these interviews (shoutout to the interviewer too!) sooo hyped for the album
It’s so refreshing to have these questions that spark a way deeper convo. Must feel soo good for him
I could listen to Tobias talk all day. Great interview!
I really love how he takes seriously the creation of lyrics and conception of album. I appreciate it
I already loved Ghost but this was a fantastic interview. Tobias was thoughtful, and circumspect, and thorough. I especially loved his line about how he thinks we will see empires fall in our time but he "believes in America, and rock and roll, and the dream." He's an absolute class act.
Him wearing a Dismember T-shirt makes me happy. I remember seeing them live like 1
15 years ago in Stockholm..
Tobias is very knowledgeable and such a great song writer.
Tobias is on a whole meaning of empowerment and I THRIVE for it, such an awesome artist.
Great interview/questions , look forward to the new album next week. Cheers
Just getting into Ghost. First rock group I’ve been this interested in for a long time
Amazing ! This band rocks ️🔥
Ghost's records were never about just rock n' roll and that's what I like most in this band! I'm really curious to find out what Tobias has in store for us in this new album! Great interview!
What do you think about the album now?
@@cashmoney8787 It's a 10/10 for me. Loved it!
@@KingArthas Ye I also like it. Could have been a bit heavier but still amazing
just discovered Ghost yesterday and i'm just obsessed, Tobias is a genius
Fantastic interview, super interesting. Thanks for doing this and asking about the song/title meanings, Tobias' thinking behind them. Have been a big fan of Ghost for years and will be for years to come 🤘💀
Blessings to Tobias, his loved ones, and to the band Ghost.
papa has blessed us
This is one of the best interviews I have ever seen with Tobias
I wish this interview was three hours long, at least. Loved it.
Such Inspiration Tobias. The mushrooms told me Destruction breeds life.
Forces you to think- yes! It does. And that's one of many reasons why it's amazing. The best music does just that. But also serves as an emotional release.
Kaisarion is my favourite out of the four tracks released so far
For me right now -
1. Kaisarion
2. Twenties
3. Call Me Little Sunshine
4. Hunter's Moon
Dig 'em all though. Can't wait for the album
@NomadKabal IMO Hunter’s Moon should be higher
@@sylph8005 It has stiff competition lol. It's actually my Mom's fav of the 4 (she's a huge fan too)
seems like a genuinely nice guy......he's also brilliant.
School teaches you WHAT to think, not HOW to think. That’s the problem.
You don’t need college or a degree to be smart.
You learn all that outside of school. You really don’t need a degree to speak with such intelligence. Most people who have degrees don’t have a job in their career path (not all) but most I know are either working in minimum wage jobs with degrees. So by all this is mostly about life learning experience, learning from people, and seeing the world in your eyes on how you see it
Never expected Tobias to be discussing elephants in heat 😂
I mean if you look at Papa 4, he is a bit like an elephant in heat 🤣🤣
But who better?
@@leenahusa1806 🤣😂😃😂
Tobias is sharp as a tack. Honestly terrifies me a little bit that these are the subjects he chose to write about on this record
Interviewer did such an awesome job! Kudos to you sir. What a delightful interview
I love it! 🖤
Big thanks to the fantastic interviewer, who asked such original, exciting, deep questions and really got into the songs and the lyrics specifically in preparation for this.
On top of all of that this had a really nice and relaxed atmosphere to it. It was just a delight to watch and I would actually listen to a podcast made by these two for hours and hours!
Great conversation! 🙌
Great interview. Thank you
I’m about a month younger than Tobias, and I would have to agree: the summer of 1993 was pretty great.
I'm two years younger and MY happy place is the summer of 1995, I swear. I immediately got what he meant. Being 12 year old, man... *sigh*.
@@manchesterexplorer8519 man stop being homophobe lol 😂
@@manchesterexplorer8519 The 90s grunge and metal scene, famously free of heroin and pills.
@@ZackC I get that but homeless junkie camps were nonexistent in the 90's in my area . The heavy drug problem in the 90's was a fraction of what it is today .
It's so cool to think that I met this human in person a month ago! It's also hard to believe that this is the same guy behind Papa, and I love them all ❤
Tobias is full of new ideas it is amazing! He is so humble and intelligent. Love him 🖤
Thanks for this interview 🥰 it’s always lovely to see him and hear his thoughts
I am so fascinated with the way he speaks, the way he articulates and expresses his thoughts. Everything he said was so thought provoking and deep. No doubt that he's very intelligent and has insights on the many aspects of life. I really admired the parts where he spoke about cycles and linear thinking, everything was so intriguing. Love that you can see and feel his wisdom in ghost's music
i just notice how when tobias speaking to someone he like avoids eye contact when he speaking but looks you dead in the eye when your talking
I’m the same too because if I do it the other way I lose my train of thought on what I wanted to say lol
@@InGhostWeThrust I recently realized i do the same, mostly to my family. Cuz then i get distracted
@@PodChklilpp339 ikr it’s not being rude to people but we just get distracted with holding eye contact and speaking what you have on your mind. We can’t do both lol especially with him and I we both have lots in common especially with his birthday being 3/3 and mine 3/1 and he’s only a year younger than me.
Am new to this band. Amazing! Intrigued, and investigating. The talent is mind blowing, melodic, and addicting. A t-shirt? Yes sir.
Same. I have yet to hear a song I don't like. Have yet to see an interview where I question their morals, their outlook on life. I adore everything I've heard and seen and I can't wait for more!
When he talks about the nostalgia.....I just can't help it, I started to get choked up.
Happy Birthday Tobias!😊 🎂 🎉🎁
How not to love this smart, funny, educated dude with formidable acting talents?
Tobias 💜
Wow he is very articulate and very intelligent I could listen to him talk about philosophy for hours
One week later since the album was released and I’ve already listened to it more than 30 times. The reason it’s on repeat is it makes me happy, it gives me hope and I love Ghost more than ever now! It’s a well-crafted, thought-through album, that starts and ends with the same melody. If you’re a fan, you’ll love it as much as I do. Looking forward to seeing them live!!🖤❤️🔥👏🏻🙌🏻🤘🏼
i looove the way he express himself, the spelling skill he has, its hypnotic.
It's interesting that Ghost have been labelled as 'Satanic' by the mainstream rock-press. Tobias is one of the most spiritually-aware and 'lit' artists that I've heard. Thanks for a great interview.
He's such a genuine and smart dude. Love hearing him speak.
