I bought an Indian Chief Dark Horse recently. Love the bike. I also had my eye on the fat bob and lowrider s. My reason for buying the Indian is overall look and appeal to me. Plus the tech on the Indian is a nice addition. I like the indian straight out the gate and I'm not planning to do much more than upgrade the cams, exhaust and air cleaner, so this bike was up my alley. I can't deny Harley has bigger aftermarket support, but I am not after all that. If you're someone who is looking to go all out in customization, then Harley is the way to go. I'm sure in time Indian will have a bigger aftermarket support, but Harley takes the win in that department for now. I come from almost 20 years of sportbike riding. I'm new to the world of cruisers, but what amazes me is the bashing from die hard Harley riders towards other brands, especially Indian. I love all bikes and makes. If I could afford it, I'd have many different styles and makes of bikes. What matters is, ride whatever you enjoy. We're all about the two wheeled life in the end. Hope I was able to help someone make a decision between the Harley and the Indian.
I think people also like the large community that HD has. Where I live there is a Triumph, Indian and HD dealership all next to each other. I went the other day to check out all 3 dealerships. there was hardly anyone at the Triumph and Indian dealership. Next door at the HD dealership there was around 200 people. They had a live band, bikini bike wash station and food vendors. Me personally I prefer to ride alone, I ride a Honda Fury. And I agree with you who cares what you ride as long as you like it.
That’s the main reason I don’t like and won’t buy HD. That and the overcharging / lack of performance/ lack of engineering. I can’t stand the prejudiced HD owners. There’s one bike and bike company only, in their eyes .... Triumph and Indian are as old, and are better bikes in all areas too. I own both. Never had and never will have an HD.
indian will have a big after market support eventually. Indian is a new kid on the block, while harley is ingrained in the usa. It takes time for a new brand. For a new brand it does very well. Eventually there will be big after market for indian as well.
@@IshMail-cx6dv It appears he knows more than you. Indian motorcycles may have been the first, but how many consecutive years have they been made? The aftermarket is not as good no matter what you say.
Tech note: the rear cylinder deactivation is also for heat reduction, especially if you're spending a lot of time sitting at a stop light or in stop and go traffic with less air flowing over the motor. Love the bike, love the video!
Just added cruise control to my 20 Street Bob this past weekend. Total cost including installation was $460. Biggest problem is getting the part. They have a long wait time. I was lucky, I ordered in February and was supposed to get it in August. That GPS would take all the fun out of getting lost in Bucks County PA on a Sunday ride away from Philly
A great video. I like the extra camera angles your friend helped you put into this video. The wheels are gorgeous. And watching them spin going the road was cool !! Indian makes a solid cruiser. Period. Good job man !!
I just don’t know personally if the Dark horse is worth $2650 more than a Street Bob! I have some minor quirks with the Chief because it’s starts @ $17,499 it’s so much more comparable to the Low Rider S starts @ $17,530! But what I notice is Indian charges $500 for paint and Harley charges $450 but what really Boggles my mind is the after market for Indian! The Indian chief Dark horse should come with a stage 1 air intake and they list it at $549.99 or $579.99 and Harley gives those options standard on both the Street Bob and the Low Rider S
I own a street bob but I will admit the Indians are better machines. They don’t have the visceral feel of a dyna however. Even the softail street bobs don’t cut it. I like being shaken out of my seat at a stoplight. That’s something I would miss greatly. Chief is a very nice bike and wouldn’t mind riding one sometime
I own a 2022 Chief Bobber Dark Horse. With the exception of visible rear shocks and a tubular steel frame the Indian Chief is nothing like a Dyna. It is smooth, powerful, and loaded with modern technology. When the new Harley Softail lineup was presented in 2018 the Dyna line was discontinued. The decision was made in favor of bikes that feature better handling, faster acceleration, and lighter weight. But some Dyna fans have never gotten over it.
All you have to do to engage the change in riding mode is roll off the throttle and back on. There’s no lag in the electronics, it’s just waiting for the roll off to switch. Great review!
Street bob is perfect, except the front brake. Go Indian Chief! - I owned the 2018 Softtail street for 1 years and sold it and I now ride BMW R18 mainly -
My opinion as a Eurotrash Brit who rides sports tourers is that I tentatively prefer the Chief range over the Softail range with the Bobber Dark Horse being the one I'd pick personally. The Indian design language just has a bit more flow and cohesion to my eyes. Not that I'd be upset with a Softail, they're still stunners. It may also help that the nearest Indian dealership is 30 minutes away and the nearest HD dealership an hour and a half away. I'm British, I'm not used to traveling an hour and a half to get somewhere.
I have a 114 street bob, it’s stock. But I literally just rode my friends 116 dark horse with stage 2 on sport mode. Omfg it just made my Harley feel so slow 😭 I’m sure just tuning my Harley would make a huge difference but oh my god, does that sport mode throttle response on the Indian rock!
Great video! I love the bike if I was to get a second bike I would definitely look into an Indian bobber. It seems like a great bike to buzz around town. Plus it has alot of great features on too that are standard.
Actually Harleys have rear cylinder deactivation. You can turn it on and off by twisting the throttle all the way forward for a few seconds and green light will turn dash means activated, red means off. Dealers don't explain it, but it is in the manual.
Great video, I like the editing in this one. I'll be interested to hear what Jerry thinks about the chief. Sport mode is beastly. No need to get a stage two on that bike. I chose a chief over the street bob last year. Mainly because of the tech and I didn't want spoke rims. If I would've waited I probably would've brought a 2022 Lowrider s. HD up their game with that 117.
Hard choice for me. I’ll be buying my 1st motorcycle soon ! Indian Chief Bobber or Harley Street Bob, Harley Standard ?? Who will give me the best deal at the dealership !??? 🤷🏽♂️ Indian or Harley Davidson ??
Great video !! I compared lots of HD and Indians these days and the CBDH kind of made the race for me (by far). The only thing why myself and quite some other folk hasn’t pushed the trigger yet is due to the fact that polaris is sending out half-chromed bike as dark horse variants and leaves it to the dealerships to deal with it - resulting in wrong black tones, additional cost for the riders and so on. I have now seen CDH with Chrom heat shields, mufflers and cam covers!! That is a no-go #indianmotorcycle - this is going on for >6mo now and clearly there are industrial coating capacities left across the world - even in Europe - so it’s a cost 💲 topic for polaris I interprete… Once the bikes are all blavk again I’ll place my order! A great looking bike but, not really a fair comparison. It should be compared to the "Low Rider S". The "Street Bob" is a very stripped down bike for riders who are on a budget.
Last summer I bought my '21 Street Bob brand new and paid cash. I briefly eyed the Chief Dark Horse Bobber, too, but there's no comparison. I respect your views and am a loyal subscriber. I respect other commenters' views, as well. Looks are subjective and tech eventually shits the bed. One is a Harley and one is an Indian. One has a dealer network and aftermarket industry that spawned as a direct result of the brand, both of which are the envy of the entire MC industry. One is the most desirable MC brand in the world; one is not. I agree that having something different and unique is cool, yes...until it's time for resale.
Yea on resale I’m Not sure how Indians are to be honest … I love streetbobs but coming off a low rider s the chief to me would be a better choice for me.
I'm really struggling to choose between these two... I live in Australia and I'm a new rider and we have power restrictions until we get our full license... So I'm riding a Rebel 500 at the moment, but am trying to choose between Indian Chief Bobber dark horse and Harley Street Bob 114.... and also my initial favourite Scout Bobber.
I think for a local cruiser, it's still hard to beat a Harley. Indian really needed to get the sound and feel of a Roadking and they fall very short IMHO. The Super Chief has all the potential, but the stock exhaust is a bit of a joke to me. Not much better than my old Vsar 1100. LOL. It sounds almost the same! It's not wimpy, but it sure sounds very restricted! I guess maybe Chief is more focused towards longer rides/touring. Each to there own, but A Roadking feels like far more bike for the money! Chief might have an impressive 116 with 85hp, but it's like riding an electric bike with a fake engine noise to make you feel better about it. ;)

I would not change my Street Bob for this one. I had the chance to test ride the Chief Dark Horse and despite it is a great bike I found it too refined for my taste, I do not care about all those mods and extra technology much tbh. My Street Bob has more character, and it feels a LOT more torquey, despite on paper they are similar. The Indian has a Lot better rear break, that is the only thing I wish my Street Bob had better.
The riding modes do not change the tune of the engine or the power output, they only change the sensitivity of the throttle twist grip. Saying, "if you put it in sport you better hold on" is BS.
Wich one is faster, 2022 low rider s 117 or indian Chief?? Uncle jerry has good camera skills😂 Nice bike by the way the new low rider s of Uncle Jerry. Im between these two bike.
I'm waiting on the Chief Rogue Dark horse version..wink wink #indianmotorcyle I rode the Chief Dark horse at a rider event and was really impressed with the power. It would definitely be a tough choice for me between that and the Street Bob. The mag wheels really made the street Bob More appealing. With that said I think a club style Chief Dark horse would be amazing.
You can literally get a brand new sissy bar for a Indian Springfield for $400 or less. Don't get swindled into buying a more expensive product just because it has "Indian" stamped on it
I like Harley but sold mine for an Indian I think the overall quality especially the reliability is better for long term ownership and if you are doing many miles, however i like both makes not loyal to no brand (Never) they don’t actually deserve it. Loyalty is only for your lady and that’s pushing it
Dig the bike and the tech but the guage is unappealing to me. HD looks a bit better overall to me, I have a HD but much respect for Indians. Other than that guage, I'd be happy with either. Life would be boring if we all lusted after the same things-Ride safe everybody.
Did you make your decision based on the digital gages ability to have the sport mode , GPS , and different information , or power ability , because if the street Bob had the same bells and whistles would your decision still be favored towards the Indian .
I thinking picking up street bob make more sense. The chief & SB is built for the same kind of use and ride as per your review hence nothing extra or more mile you can do. The service network will be an issue if ever you tried long rides. The resale I’m not sure-how good the chief holds value. Indian has more tech means some day’s will be like scratching your head to understand what the new error code is as we all know how Harley bikes with less tech also gives troubles( for a short distance riding bike I don’t want the trouble). If I want tech then will think about something like BMW or Yamaha. So at less price I get a short distance SB ( maybe even a softail standard will do).
Let’s be honest here, you’re gonna lean towards buying a bike that a company placed in your garage for three months at no cost. And I don’t blame you! You’re killing it in the YT game, my dude and ruffling Indian’s feathers since you have a relationship with them wouldn’t be the best strategic move for the channel. If we’re breaking this down and if technology was a deciding factor, Indian would be the choice over all HD models, including the beloved LRS. The majority of their flagship bikes have ride modes, navi and led lighting. Hell, even the challenger comes with inverted forks 🤷🏼♂️ And as far as tank size, we’re talking a .5 gallon. So what’re we really talking about? And for the $$$, you can spend another $1k on a SB and put a softail slim, LRS or heritage tank on and get better gas mileage. And, the customization in Harleys space is light years ahead of Indian. But I’ll say this, I’m a big fan of the bikes that Indian is putting out - especially the chief - I mean, have you heard a clip of it with a 2-1 on? It’s gnarly! And lastly, as far as fit and finish, we know who wins in that category as well. Keep these great videos coming bruh!
As far as fit and finish yes Harley has it all day. Harley has loaned me bikes to in the past. I’ve liked this bike from day one it’s a great choice. With that being said this was only in comparison to a Sb …. I wouldn’t choice this bike over a low rider s
Hm tough one - I honestly have been on a lot of bikes and the quality of Indian when it comes to „piece in mind while riding“ is way ahead of the clunky Softail models I find. The only fit and finish downside i found was the plastic stripe in the middle of the tank which I prefer at Hds - it’s simply more quality there. I’d I had to chose - and I do these days - I’d go for the chief bobber. However, If you’re plannign to fully customize your bike I’d probably go for a fat boy or so as custom parts on Germany cost a fortune for the Indian (you’re looking at €50k for a customized Chief here).
Dude I have a Street Bob 2017 bought it this year as my first bike. Was a little afraid that it was going to be too much for me however I got on it pretty well and easy. My advice is buy whatever you like. They may be strong but it all depends on the throtle. It can be fast, but it can also be slow. Ride at your own rithm. Have a Nice Ride!
Sure. Just ride in tour mode till you get used to it. It's a heavy bike, and that's a reason to be wary, but if you aced the low speed uturns section of mcsf then you should be able to handle it. And it's a bike you won't ever grow out of.
If Indian is so good why haven't you bought one?We know Harley is better especially once you start modding alot of power to be had in the M8 for 2000 get a cam and run circles around that bike for the same money.
Been watching you kid since the 883 days. I know you a big shot now,but to even ask if an Indian compares to a dyna street bob is laughable. A soft tail bob maybe. But they will never make an Indian that compares favorable to the blessed........ DYNA. HEY BRO HOW ABOUT A RIDE AROUND NYC.

What do you think about drag bar ergonomics compared to the SB mini ape? I'm also 5.7
Both goig looking bikes but the i choose the chief, engine is bad ass.
Which Dealership was gracious enough to lend you that bike? That was honorable of them.
It was corporate
Just straight bagging on his friend… but harsh 🤣
ooh what bags are those on the 2022 Low Rider S?
Is the indian Chain drive or gear drive?
Who is filming your side camera angles?
They missed the chance to make it a monoshock softail with a 4 or 4.5 inch monoshock.
The Chieftain has a monoshock.....but they were going for a different style on this Chief
Would you recommend this bike as a good beginner bike?
Um… No? It’s a 2L motorcycle. Get a 250cc to start on.
I don’t like that straight arm position A bent arm relaxed position is best in my opinion.
Yep
Beautiful bike.
What town or city are you riding in?
Dig the bike and the tech but the guage is unappealing to me. HD looks a bit better overall to me, I have a HD but much respect for Indians. Other than that guage, I'd be happy with either. Life would be boring if we all lusted after the same things-Ride safe everybody.
Did you make your decision based on the digital gages ability to have the sport mode , GPS , and different information , or power ability , because if the street Bob had the same bells and whistles would your decision still be favored towards the Indian .
How much hp ?
Harley all day my friend 💯👍🏿
Is Sportster S more of a comparison?
No this is a bigger more powerful bike
Does it have a fuel gauge
Haha of course ;)
$17000 plus taxes n fees!??? WTF no thanks.
Glad I went with the Street Bob 114. The Indians are not aging well as usual.
YERRRR!
Yerrrrrrr
84 hp 116 tq cycle world.
Who wins in fit and finish?
You sound kinda hesitant when you say you'd buy this bike over the Harley....
beelines for the 1980's Honda...
I’m a new rider and about to buy my first bike. I love that new Indian, my question is would you recommend it for a new rider?
Which one is the hottest on your leg from the rear cylinder head ?
Been watching you kid since the 883 days. I know you a big shot now,but to even ask if an Indian compares to a dyna street bob is laughable. A soft tail bob maybe. But they will never make an Indian that compares favorable to the blessed........
DYNA. HEY BRO HOW ABOUT A RIDE AROUND NYC.
INDIAN! 👍
yurrr
Yerrrr
Ride a triumph rocket 3. Indian and Harley are even playing the same game. $.02
None of them have a rumble , they sound like an import
🤘🏼💥🤘🏼
👊🏽
No h.p numbers come on man.
No me gusta como suena, es muy bonita, pero no tiene el sonido característico de Harley, parece una moto eléctrica.
No offense to those Indian fans, but my vote is for the Harley Street Bob.... 100 percent.
