I was in between a Scout & Harley Street Bob at first. Then heard about the release of the Chief Darkhorse which became my first bike purchase in May & I'm loving every bit of it!
I was looking for a Scout as my first bike but I did not want to wait. No dealerships around me had any scouts or chief models to test ride and pre-ordering was 3 months out so I ended up on a Harley Sportster Iron 1200.
I hear you. I was on the table tryna get a street bob and idk Harley couldn’t make the numbers work. But when I went to Indian. I seen the chief bobber and instantly fell in love. This was my first road bike I ever bought and I got no regrets.
I didn’t go to Arizona and I don’t have a UA-cam motorcycle channel, but I do own a Chief Bobber Dark Horse. I took delivery March 27. I immediately added forward facing high flow intake and de-baffled Stage1 slip-ons. They look and sound better than the stock intake and exhaust. In July - I added a Stage2 kit. (bigger throttle body, high flow fuel injectors and cams) This really transformed the bike. The “built” 116 is a beast. Brute horsepower and awesome torque coming from a 116 stuffed into a 695 lbs bike. Acceleration is breathtaking. It is addictive. The bike pulls like an angry mule on steroids! Lean angle and brakes are adequate for a bobber. Handling is very good. Comfort on longer rides is Ok. I took one 180 mile day ride with my IMRG and I survived, but the Chief Bobber is a bar hopper not a highway bike. Both my son-in-laws liked my bike so much they both purchased one. M has a 111Chief Bobber Ruby Red and J is waiting for a matte grey Dark Horse. Projected lead time from order to delivery is 6-8 weeks according to our dealer. I have about $25,000 total in my Chief now with the performance modifications. I am very satisfied and have had zero problems. (I also own a 2021 Scout Bobber, 2021 Vintage and a 2019 FTR-RR.)
Coming out of a 1200 Sportster I am looking into the Scout Bobber Twenty vs the Chief Bobber Dark Horse. What're your thoughts on the two bikes? I'm 170 lbs and 5'10" sportster was totally fine size was for me just ready for a change in bike.
I own a 2021 Scout Bobber. The biggest difference “in my opinion” is weight and the way the engines feels. At 150 lbs less than the Chief the Scout feels lighter, more nimble, flickable and easier to turn. It stops faster in a hurry up situation. The Scout engine is powerful but has a lot less torque. That power comes at much higher RPM than a 116 Thunderstroke. The Chief is a torque monster. It is a very different animal than the Scout. Both are great bike and are super fun to ride but feel very different.
I seriously think that the indian chief is one of the best looking cruisers that you can get today. It is a little expensive, but everything from the looks to the ride to the engine is all perfect in my opinion. I think Indian really nailed exactly what a cruiser should be.
I definitely consider buying one. I currently ride a Street Glide. It would really have to impress me though, as I have been a Harley guy for many years.
Definitely interested. Rode the Dark Horse on a demo-ride a few weeks ago. Handling seemed lackluster but it was a shorter demo-ride. This bike stays at the top of my list because it’s probably the best looking cruiser on the current market.
After I saw your video in Sedona, I went to my local Indian dealer and test rode the Chief. I loved it and walked out with it like an hour later. I do wish they had the Darkhorse at that time but I was such in love with the bike that i settled on the Chief. I did get the Stage 1 forward aircleaner and DeanSpeed Rampage exhaust since the stock is really..silent. Still an amazing bike after 3 months.
I just bought it over the weekend. I'm still in break-in mode. So far I have nothing to complain about. I like how it handles on the road feels very solid. I'm looking forward to your dyno test.
@Handsome Shrek in my opinion the bike has alot of power to move around especially on the highway. It also feels solid and handles extremely well. If your familiar with the goat trail going towards peekskill its a very curvy road and the bike seems to ride itself right through the curves. My opinion is definitely one sided. I really enjoy riding this bike.
I just reserved my 2022 Indian Chief Bobber Dark horse from Indian Motorcycle here in Austin Texas. I bought $5000.00 alone in accessories. I love the look of this bike. Can't wait!!
@@skywayrider849 I lovingly refer to it as the gateway bagger. Everyone I know personally who purchased one traded it in or got a second bike within 2 years and got a full size bagger. 🤪
@@wyomoto1349 any others in that “gateway” bagger arena? I’m looking at exactly that for my next purchase but don’t want a full size bagger or the cost that comes with them as of yet…but damnit do I want the options for storage and comfortable rides on the occasional longer rides.
@@daveshultz3789 you can always swap a few parts out for leather pros instead of the factory hard bags. You can always get the tour pack designed for the sport glide or you can get aftermarket hardware designed specifically to mount any of the Harley tour packs onto a Softtail quick disconnect brackets. Those are the budget ways to get a Softtail up to touring size luggage capacity.
After having a few Harleys and now onto other ventures, the Chief really has my attention. I wish they’d gone water cooled but it ain’t the end of the world.
Hey Blockhead the throttle going forward is another way to Cancel the Cruise Control. Of course there are other ways of cancelling it such as braking, pulling in the clutch, etc. Anyways I love my Chief Darkhorse. It was awesome watching your vids before I recieved mine in May. Keep it going! Would love for you to review aftermarket parts such as the exhaust from dean speed.

To me the closest bike to it I can think of is the Softail Slim. Could you go over adjusting the rear shocks? I've never done it and I'm afraid I'm going to screw up my bike.
I feel the same about my challenger. Love everything about it but the seat. After 5k miles since I bought it in April I broke down and bought a Saddleman seat. First aftermarket purchase.

I definitely want to see a comparison to a FXFBS. Only thing I don't like about the TS116 is that it is limited in upgrades vs the, M8. But I'm sure the aftermarket will catch on pretty soon. Nice vid as always man!
Looking forward to seeing how Chief does on a long haul, like 500 miles in one day. I can do it on my Scout but hurts me. I'm 54, 5'11" 205lbs. I'll test ride a few, but gut feeling is Chief wouldn't be enough of a change from Scout.

Love the Indian line up. You mentioned that you haven't seen another motorcycle with the cruise control on the right side. My Can-Am Spyder has cruise on the right hand controls. Its my first bike that I have had with cruise so I didn't know any different.
On mine, its the right trigger. You pull it and it will take you to the screen and you hold on the trigger and it will select the mode switch and then tap until you get the mode you want. Then hold the trigger again to confirm...but i dont have the ride command.
Kudos to Indian for the air cooled 116 thunderstroke engine. That's the best way to go. Less parts, less issues; no leaks, no worrying about over heating when sitting still at an idle, etc. My biggest gripe with Indian is the length of the mufflers.... Really ??? It makes the bike look weird. The only thing that should really be sticking out past the the back of the rear tire is nothing.
I would love to hear a comparison to the Low Rider S. Are they both for the same type of rider? What do each of them do better or worse than the other one?
Very intrigued with the Scout and Chief Dark Horse Bobber. Have a beautiful T100 Bonneville now, and am wondering if it’s worth it to make the move. Love my Bonnie, but these Indians got my attention. Great video.
I have a 2022 t100 also that I can't ride, because of the poor design, that sticks the rear shock, right up your tail bone! A new seat did not even help one bit, because of the fact that they planted the rear shock right under the seat at a straight vertical position, how stupid of a design can you get? And I was a suckered to buy one without considering how it was made! I really have to try hard to forgive myself for making such a crucial mistake. Now I'm paying for a motorcycle that I can't afford to ride without injuring my body.
I'm looking to add a bike to my garage. Currently on a 2019 Roadking stage 3. Looking for something that's a little more comfy than the 2022 low rider s. I'm 62 and don't care for the riding position of the "S". I also like the idea of two rear shocks like the Dyna used to have or still has. I'm gonna try to test ride this bike. I like the way it looks a lot. The looks along with a 116" motor attracted me to the bike. I may turn it into a club style bike.
when i drove buses for lynx i stopped at that racetrac where you filled up sssooo often! it was the only place where i could feasibly use the restroom while on route.
I have been watching motorcycle videos for months now and narrowed it down to the following list: - Indian Scout Rogue - Indian Chief and Bobber Dark Horse - Honda Rebel 1100 A metric cruiser is on the list because I life in Europe in the middle of the Alps. I‘m over 40 and this is my first serious bike purchase (with little experience) so I wonder if you would recommend the Bobber Dark Horse as a first bike for a responsible driver. I‘m 6‘1 tall. The Scout feels kind of too low for me.
This bike is absolutely gorgeous! I love this awesome mix of classic look and feel with modern technologies. To be honest I can't see the reason to buy HD softail anymore until it is the FatBoy or the Breakout.
I put a deposit down on one just the other day... Can't wait! I'm definitely interested in the day to day, driving in traffic experiences you lucky ***** !!! lol
Checked it out at the dealer today. To get to the different modes quickly you hold the right trigger i believe and it goes right to it. That wasn’t the dark horse model though- so it may be different? Give it a try
I like the bike a lot. Definitely a raw, in your face slap of 45 degree air cooled power. Not as much pep as the Scout or my sportster s but I think the classic styling makes up for the speed. Shes a looker!
I would love to get one of these bikes. The only real down side is the fact that there is NO aftermarket parts and accessories that I’ve come across for it. I have an Indian FTR 1200 and it’s the best bike I’ve ever owned. I love what Polaris has done with the Indian brand. I would like to see them compete more with Harley Davidson when it comes to aftermarket accessories. That and they need to fire the guy who designed the seats for Indian. Every Indian I’ve ridden has always had seat issues. You hear about it constantly with the scouts.
Just back from Coffee Shop of Horrors. Cool little place, good coffee and chocolate cookies. Especially liked the various decorations. Was that Corkwood Lane you turned down where there may have been banjo music or shotguns? If so, there is a nice gathering hall place back at the end. I know of one wedding to take place there. The difficult part is getting past what looks like something from the old Burt Reynolds movie, Deliverance.
My biggest questions are how thw aftermarket is going to respond to them. Much like you said in near the end of the video. Also, would hope that Polaris doesn't pull a victory move on indian owners. Hoping they are down to stick with the brand for the long haul.
I LOVE my 2014 Indian Vintage. I leave the windshield off most of the time but it's nice to have when I need it. That built in GPS looks enticing but if the one in my phone fails I can buy another phone. I'm afraid to ask what that 'smart gauge' on the dark horse cost if it fails..
Hey Blockhead. I have the new Chief dark horse and love it. However a couple of things have come up or been raised on community forums so.woumd be good to know if you experience these or would have any answers from Indian. 1. The brake and clutches levers are different..one polished and one brushed......same on yours? Know why? 2. The front headlamp has been known to get condensation on the inside...again...same on yours? Know why? 3. Hearing a lot of new owners complain about engine knocking sounds....I haven't experienced but....once again....anything similar on yours? No.real issues from me though..I love the ride, love the modes, love all the heads this bike is turning when I'm out on it. Keep up the great work dude 💪
I have the workaround for that riding mode problem. Just leave it in sport and be done with it. Better yet eliminate riding modes in general and learn throttle control.
the cheif vs goldzilla. which is: faster in a strait line? faster in twisties? more comfortable (exluding fairing), better value prop? any other fun metrics you might like. thats what I would like to see
It’s a great machine!!! I loved my test ride. What mods would you make to the Chief? Which one would you go with if you were buying it, Chief, Super Chief, Super Chief Limited, bobber?
Just got dark horse jade chief , have the ruroc aftershock and an android phone I have to disconnect Bluetooth to bike to get sound to my speakers bike shows songs but won't play thru bike screen controls. Coming off Suzuki vstrom 650 I'm loving it.
Does anyone else find peace in just riding in random directions just for the sake of riding and seeing a cool restaurant and deciding to stop and check it out?
My 18 Heritage has that bar in the gas tank. It is nice... except here in California we have those stupid vapor nozzles I would definitely ride that bike
I really wish Indian would make a cruiser platform out of there challenger platform. Could make a really nice muscle cruiser if they release it with a few of the performance mods for there king of baggers set up

Looking forward to more content on this! I own the base '22 Chief Dark Horse and love it. Just waiting (impatiently) on the aftermarket to develop.
My CBR500R has that bar in the gas tank. Every bike needs that!
@ 10:05 - I hated that on my Triumph America - it had that bar to keep you from hitting the fuel pump. It splattered like CRAZY...
Oh yeah, look an Indian Chief 🤷🏻♂️.
Nice bike.
when i drove buses for lynx i stopped at that racetrac where you filled up sssooo often! it was the only place where i could feasibly use the restroom while on route.
I have been watching motorcycle videos for months now and narrowed it down to the following list:
- Indian Scout Rogue
- Indian Chief and Bobber Dark Horse
- Honda Rebel 1100
A metric cruiser is on the list because I life in Europe in the middle of the Alps.
Can't wait! I'm definitely interested in the day to day, driving in traffic experiences you lucky ***** !!! lol
Damn, gas is (relatively) cheap down there in FL. Out in CO, it's over $4 for 91, the highest we have.
I paid $3.38 for 93 at Buckees in Leeds Alabama today.
Cruise is on the right on my Victory XC, maybe a carryover design from then.
I feel like this bike was made by a tech guy who likes motorcycles, rather than a motorcyclist who likes tech just by a few things shown in the video
Just bought this exact model and color. Excited to drive it today 😁😁😁
To me I see the Victory Highball DNA in this bike. All its missing are the white wall tires.👍👍👍
Just bought my first bike today blockhead. Bought a new 2021 Honda CB300R w/ ABS. I’m in Florida as well. Hopefully someday we’ll pass by someday.
the cheif vs goldzilla. which is: faster in a strait line? faster in twisties? more comfortable (exluding fairing), better value prop? any other fun metrics you might like. thats what I would like to see
I just figured all motorcycles had that gas tank thing. Even my 2020 Yamaha MT-03 has something similar.
With the introduction of the 2022 Chief, I wonder why Indian still offers the Scout!
Rode the stage (?) Chief in Myrtle at their demo event during bike week. It was scary fast 💨
Love to hear your impressions of leg position with those forward controls. I'm 6'3" and most forward controls still aren't forward enough for me.
I think the “forwards” on this bike aren’t even as forward as most. I saw another review that said they were kinda in between mids and forwards
What's the comparison to a street Bob say 2017
It’s a great machine!!! I loved my test ride. What mods would you make to the Chief? Which one would you go with if you were buying it, Chief, Super Chief, Super Chief Limited, bobber?
Netherlands delivery around november ;-) So more than glad with any experience you provide!
I bought one today, sagebrush green. Will be riding it home tomorrow
I like that gas tank bar.... keeps from over filling.
ahhhh at 9.53 when he mentioned premium gas at $3.53... those were the days 😂😂
Just got dark horse jade chief , have the ruroc aftershock and an android phone I have to disconnect Bluetooth to bike to get sound to my speakers bike shows songs but won't play thru bike screen controls. Coming off Suzuki vstrom 650 I'm loving it.
I'd like Indian Motorcycle to announce their new distributor for Malaysia, and when the Chief will be available here. Thanks!
Does anyone else find peace in just riding in random directions just for the sake of riding and seeing a cool restaurant and deciding to stop and check it out?
Was down between this a new street bob, or a triumph bobber. Went with harely because of dealer support. Closest triumph dealer to me is 3 hours away.
I love the street bob for the riding I do. How do you like yours so far?
I've heard from a lot of people that the seat needs to have a little bit of a higher back on it
I think with this bike you should share your favorite jam list you listen to when you ride
My 18 Heritage has that bar in the gas tank. It is nice... except here in California we have those stupid vapor nozzles I would definitely ride that bike
Take a ride up to Lloyd’s Indian Dealership and have him dyno tune that beast!
Are they able to mod the 2022 yet? I heard it was still in r&d
Love these new chief bikes. Bought a HD Softail last yr, maybe should’ve waited?
I really wish Indian would make a cruiser platform out of there challenger platform. Could make a really nice muscle cruiser if they release it with a few of the performance mods for there king of baggers set up
Great motorcycle and Great brand, love the Indian Motorcycles.
Where it sucks is dealer service, i had 3 different Indian between 2014 & 2021, all awesome; however, the dealer Service here in Calgary Alberta Canada from the Indian Dealership (CycleWorks) sucks. They are the reason i purchased a new 2021 Harley Street Glide Special.
They finished that house on SugarLoaf Mt. and it feels awkward to stop there now 😄
