  • Well, it started out as a simple day trip to Chedworth Roman Villa in The Cotswolds, then a rabbit hole appeared...

Hi Richard~To add to the comments I've left over on Facebook; we're in the middle of tourist season here in my town. It gets so busy, that we stay home. I'll not mention which town it is, because people seem to have discovered us, love us and keep returning. Full disclosure, we're here because it was a lovely place to visit, and we stayed forever. And you take care too. Hello to Alex.😊

You two are the most charming tour guides, a bit quirky in a most delightful way. Please keep these visits and videos going. Traveling is difficult for me these days. Your videos allow me to be a vicarious tourist. It’s like traveling with a couple of friends.

Well I was happy to learn how the Romans did their underfloor heating, I always wondered about that. Could I suggest a perfect place for you two to visit. It’s at St David’s West Wales so one overnight in the vans would be fun. There is a little remote chapel set high above the sea really tiny and beautiful. There is a little path that will take you to Nons Well. I’ve been several times and have never actually seen another person there yet the Well is surrounded by flowers and little notes that people have left. The atmosphere is strong with spirituality and many myths and legends exist around the tiny chapel. The scenery is stunning too. Maybe Alex knows of it but it’s my favourite place in the world.x

That sounds delightful, Norma! We'll have to look into it. Thanks for the suggestion

If you want to go a bit further out than your postcode you can visit the Fishbourne Roma Palace near Chichester which looks far more impressive & complete than the ruins of Chedworth & Littlecote. It even has recreated Roman gardens. With it being a little further out im sure you can find an overnight campsite nearby.

Great video, Rick! I know you were a little less enthusiastic about Chedworth when compared to Hailes Abbey, but what a spectacular area to explore. I suppose it would be better on a sunny day. And the trout farm was an excellent surprise. A great way to save a day out! (And well done Alex for soldiering on despite the sore ankle!)
"Two middle-aged sore thumbs" really made me laugh, as did the public service announcement warning against confusing a hypocaust and a holocaust! 😂 Also, it might just be me not noticing before, but I'm loving the camera angle while driving. A great way to capture the Cotswolds in all their splendour.

Thanks Antoin, glad you enjoyed it, yes, I worked hard on that public service announcement 🤣
The Cotswolds is a great place to visit this time of year, especially in the sunny weather. Thanks for the super chat, much appreciated 😊👍

I can’t see a stag do going there, not the stag dos I’ve been on anyway. Maybe a trip to the coast will be a good video like the first Swanage one you did a few years ago.

A nice sunny day & less people / noise makes a big difference when out sight seeing. A pity you stayed home during last months heatwave when schools were not on holiday. You could revisit Old Sarum since the last time you visited you didn't have membership & no money so you only looked around the church ruins. Maybe also checkout Stonehenge while your in the area now that you have membership.

I live in Cornwall and we're swamped by tourists. It all helps the local economy. I escape to places where I can have lovely country walks with my dog and hardly see a soul. I hope you can find a few places that are off the beaten track.

Too bad the trip didn't turn out the way you thought Rick. But if it counts,i think both places had some charm.Especially the villa.

Chedworth, worth seeing but not worth going to see? Parking apps....argh!!
