No, you’re not the only one. 🙂 I love Rick’s natural voice, and can easily fall asleep listening to him talking about UFOs, carnivore, walks in the English countryside or VR truck driving. But I’m not very fond of the ASMR voice.
you damon and alex would make for a very entertaining podcast! i'd love to listen to you guys talk about how you got into the van/camping hobby and how you all met :) great work on the studio rick it's incredible how much you've done!
I love all your genuine enthusiasm for all your projects and completely relate to getting immersed in the latest project. You are such an interesting man! The studio is looking amazing and you have worked really hard. The only thing I'd say is please don't end up too 'professional' cos most of us just like the down to earth pottering guy and that's what draws us to you as a person ❤️
Hey Rick. Podcast looks amazing. Personally I really like the fire in the background, I think it works really well with the framing you have. Not sure if this would work with the amount of space you have but it might be worth looking at clip-on telephoto lenses for your iPhone as a possible cheap solution to your cinematic mode processing problem.
Rick, your pure cheese has helped me through some rough spots! I haven’t commented lately but I’m so grateful for you. I’m so anxious to get an internship this summer as it’s a graduation requirement and I need to make more money to pay for school too. If you can it would mean a lot to me if you or other watchers could send me a kind thought. I know there are worse problems but it’s been years and I’m so hoping to move on to the next little step
Thanks for sharing. Sounds tough, but I've got a good feeling you'll nail that internship and sort your school finances. I’m sure everyone here's rooting for you. Hang in there!
Hi Rick, the studio is looking great! I would agree with a couple of other comments on here, that I prefer your natural voice over your 'ASMR' voice, as it does feel as if you are trying to hypnotise me! 😂 Looking forward to the future podcasts! 😊
Glad to see your studio looking better. I use a DSLR camera. The only drawback to my cameras is they only record in 30 minute segments. That would be fine for filming in general except podcasts are generally longer than one minute. Thank you for the shout out, I'm just really glad you enjoyed the video. When I was doing podcasts more frequently, I would record them with video, but also use the audio to make them for the other channels. So you can record for multiple formats at the same time. You should line up guests to podcast with about specific topics. Things like that matter. They can remotely interview or home by streamyard. ❤
Ha. Great video again mate🙌. I remember when you were thinking of doing your latest van build you said” but I won’t start until the spring “….. 2 days later you were ripping it apart 😂😂. I’ll be expecting to see you waiting for delivery of a Sony a7r v on Tuesday 😂😂❤
I'm saying this half way through your video but Elgato now do an affordable auto prompter - called "Prompter". Have a look at it - not got one yet but I think it is pretty good for the price compared to previous offerings from other setups...
Complete change of subject Rick , what happened to Joe and Austin ? Always loved the camping trips with these 2 👍one of your camping trips popped up from yrs ago with you 4 and it was brilliant so that’s the reason I’m asking , the dynamic worked really well 👍
There are some videos on UA-cam to make inexpensive DIY teleprompters to avoid the issue of looking away from the lens. They generally involve a phone/tablet, an app and a piece of glass. Not sure it will help with the pulling funny faces, but it might if it's easier to read and moving itself as you speak.
Hey Rick, what happened with the smart scope you had? Are you still using it? I know the skies have been very cloudy. Got myself a Seestar in September and it’s a brilliant smart scope. Just been doing imagine g of the sun. Took all of 5 mins from set up to put away.
The podcast set up looks great. Think you should just have notes of what to talk about and ad-lib. Your natural voice is better for your RickVanMan channel I think also. Looking forward to watching these. For recording the sound it may worth looking at a Rodecaster Pro. Not the cheapest thing but probably the easiest.
Random question, what's the coffee machine you use at the beginning of the video? I'm looking to replace my cheap Argos one with hopefully something good quality that will last a few years. Love the recent videos, it's great to see a project come together

Hi Rick , nice to see your studio again it’s so good. I have no clue about all the technical stuff so I shall just be sitting back and enjoying everything you put up. I was a fan of the fire but can see it took up a lot of space. I feel I’ve been really mean to the little cat now especially as he looks so cute in close up. xx

Using Depth of Field on a DSLR camera will get your cinematic effect, in better quality. Also using the DSLR Live View will allow you to record direct into the laptop., i.e. doesn't need to be stored on the camera memory and transferred.
Also with a DSLR zoom lens you will be able to place the camera a few feet away from you and still get depth of field. This will allow you to use the laptop as a full screen teleprompter (there are various softwares). With the camera far away, the viewer can't see your eyes looking above or below the camera lens when reading the script from the laptop screen.

I think it was you who recently said that as a channel if you don't post regularly, even when have many subscribers, the channel can b side lined from the algorithms. Can I also point out something random. I'm around yr age but have had health issues where been less physically mobile, so enjoyed UA-cam more whilst unable get outside much. Its nice seeing UA-camr's getting out & about when you can't. I've noticed on certain channels, especially ones like yours/Sean's, that some subs are elderly people or those confined to their home. I replied to one man on Sean's channel as he was expressing that he doesn't see many people (cept his carer I think he said) or leave the house so values the community/feel of certain channels. . A channel platform can be very important to individuals who are housebound. Sean had said he intended keep up the channel I was part of, once his no dig/allotment channel started up, but then put out a message that he taking a break till somewhere in April & won't now b posting as much on the normal channel (2 focus on the new allotment). He is now posting old clips etc - I'm guessing that's due to what was stated about if no posts go out for a time the channels algorithms can b impacted. My thoughts went out for the housebound people over a holiday period like Easter where they may see noone & get contact from their fave channels. I'm absolutely not stating UA-camrs shudnt have breaks, of course that shud happen & it's wise to not get overwhelmed by the commitments a channel brings. This again tho, can b a flip side of when members become a focus on channels, where income is then gleaned from those memberships & extra posts r required just 4 members/ upping output & time. I know you don't do that as u recently said so & said u don't intend to either. I hope you appreciate with your mobility, transport/health - to do activities - that some viewers may love seeing a mix of inside chat/podcast type talks & interviews, along with the getting outside type posts; if they can't. Recent months have been my first taste of a lack of mobility leading to limited outside social interactions. It's really made me value my mobility & getting out walking. I hope after yr break you continue a lovely mix of inside & outside posts. Such channels can be really uplifting to those stuck indoors with mobility issues, no matter what age the person is. I've left Sean's channel & others due to this two tier members/non members issue. I do feel sad 4 those at home alone unable to get out, who get less interaction at such a family driven holiday like Easter/Christmas. Im now getting my mobility back & am subd to loads of v varied channels, so usually there's sum1 posting, even over weekends & special holidays. I hope yr new podcast goals r balanced with the travel days, walks in nature, as well as catch ups from yr home. It seems a good mix. Have a really peaceful Easter, if yr break is until after then (even without the sugary Easter Eggs that you avoid).
I've said it before Rick but are you open to the idea of a Members Subscription area? This is common place an UA-cam now and you could dump all of your scrapped videos and any random stuff there. Maybe a monthly Q&A - I would happily pay £5-£10 /month for that.
Hi Matt, I’ve often thought about it, but choose not to as it just brings extra pressure to create content. I’d rather just be spontaneous and create it when I feel like it 😊👍 but generous of you to say so.
I think you are always liable to struggle if reading a script and you are off centre in the camera frame Rick. You are naturally looking off to your right which stops you engaging directly with the viewer. I have to say that I like the fireplace and it certainly would have a use in a two or more group of people interview. A ramble and a guest or two would add variety when picking subject matter and there are plenty of battles/events/curious haunted houses in history you could blog with static images for a background. look forarws to seeing how you develop it.
Hi Rick, we haven't seen any videos for few days now, I'm getting visions of you falling off the wagon sitting in your arm chair sorounded by chocolate Easter eggs and munching on high carb foods, hope not.😅
There is AI software out there that will record your eyes for a few seconds and then can make it look as though you are staring directly at the camera even when you are looking down at your computer screen.
I'm probably the only one, but I prefer your natural voice tones rather than the one that makes me feel your are trying to hypnotise me. I have no good ideas to share with you Rick... but I'm going to invite you over to give me ideas on lighting in my home 😆
😂👍
Interview Sean and vice versa to make your own ‘Desert Island Discs’ each…
I can’t find a recent video from Rick, is he ok?
Still here Irene, just busy on another project at the moment and taking a little bit of a break 😊👍
You deserve a break, as long as you are ok, I will be able to sleep now 🙂@@rickvanman
I would like you to discuss the human ego,and it's massively destructive effect on our world.
Why aren't you using an auto cue if you're reading a script?
An auto cue doesn’t filter out cheesiness 😂😂
Buy a blackmagic pocket cinema camera 6.k and you will get lovely shallow depth of field. I have two. I could come over and show you.
Not sure my budget would stretch, curious though, how’s the continuous auto focus on those things?
I think you are always liable to struggle if reading a script and you are off centre in the camera frame Rick. You are naturally looking off to your right which stops you engaging directly with the viewer. I have to say that I like the fireplace and it certainly would have a use in a two or more group of people interview. A ramble and a guest or two would add variety when picking subject matter and there are plenty of battles/events/curious haunted houses in history you could blog with static images for a background. look forarws to seeing how you develop it.
Love from Canada🤍💫💚
Anyone seen Rick lately?
Hi Rick, we haven't seen any videos for few days now, I'm getting visions of you falling off the wagon sitting in your arm chair sorounded by chocolate Easter eggs and munching on high carb foods, hope not.😅
🤣
Oops silly me Rick , I have commented but it’s in one of the replies somewhere 🙄
There is AI software out there that will record your eyes for a few seconds and then can make it look as though you are staring directly at the camera even when you are looking down at your computer screen.
Good to know, I’ll have to do some googling. Thanks for sharing. 😊👍
I Have NEVER!! Understood Blurry Backgrounds ..... I Mean!! .... WHY!!!! ???? ....... Does My eyes In .... Grrrrrr!!!!! ..........
In the eyes of most, it looks great.
I love your videos, but your studio looks like a tarts boudoir!! Why? Such a shame.
some of us have no idea how a tarts boudoir looks like. that might explain it.
