I love the energy on these videos because it's like walking into class with that cool professor who is just getting right down to the brass tacks with no fluff and gets rolling immediately, if you're late to class he doesn't give a crap either he just keeps moving on.
The last ~5 mins were really powerful for me. Build trust, don't abuse it, you're building a healthy relationship with your viewers. Will definitely watch this one again
The points made around 14:00 are SO TRUE. I work full-time as a community manager and it took me a while to understand -- the biggest value in browsing twitter tags (for example) and responding/"engaging" wasn't about getting people to follow our account, it was about learning the context of my industry. After participating in conversations in our niche on our brand twitter account for a few months, I accidentally became incredibly well-versed in the culture/ecosystem of the niche, and then the content really started to click. Just listening and learning within a niche is sooo underrated when it comes to the social media meta
Most videos teach you how to be a UA-camr or Streamer, but Devin’s videos teach you how to be a Content Creator. I respect his consistent stance on never reducing yourself to a single platform.
I will basically NEVER consume a 40 min youtube video, and yet I constantly find myself watching Devin's long form content till the end. Your actually the marketing/branding content goat of the internet generation. Thanks for all the value and insight!
Great video that I will definitely recommend next time a friend starts talking about trying to do content, I'm surprised how much of this stuff I naturally learned through observations of other creators. I'm starting to grow myself and I've gotten several suspicious sponsorship offers already, Novo looks like the exact thing I've been looking for. Thanks for providing that resource, it's impossible to put into words how valuable it is.
reached 24 min mark! thanks for the video again :-) What you said around (13:54) resonated with me, I'm all for passionate discourse but when I see people follow it up with an ask of some sorts it makes it feel less about passion for the grind and field and more about social climb, in most cases, genuine relationships will create themselves when you present value through the things you produce
Hey Devin, I’m currently a MBA student with a Marketing emphasis and have an undergraduate degree with a marketing and business focus. I found this video to be super insightful especially for someone who may never get the chance to listen in on these types of lectures. Keep creating this great informational content, I believe it is truly valuable for the masses.
Thing about learning all this stuff is that sometimes now matter how much you think things thought there is always that one variable that one thing that just slid out of your mind or was told to you in a way that didn't really help you, yet someone builds same sentence diffrently and all of the sudden you understand. I may have thought i know this stuff but certain part still did make me rethink things! Thanks for those vids as always !
Thank you Devin for more great content. It's amazing how much you put out there for free. Even just on your free content I have been able to go freelancing full-time with your advice. Everyone who is serious about going full-time in content creation should be listening to you.
24:00 so much value. I've never heard about the 0 to 1 rule. Turns out I've been doing it unknowingly by just being myself... after I stopped pointless streaming to nobody and took a lot of time to rethink myself and what I want to do.
I will literally never post a single video online, I don't have a facebook accont, no Instagram, no twitter, nothing and I really don't care. With that being said, I really enjoy watching you break down the formula to success on these platforms, on twitch and yt. I watch them on 3x and learn something interesting every time.
1. Produce something of value(literally anything can have value that will help make the world better) 2. Get that something of value to as many people as possible(top funnel) 3. Funnel those people into your business(channel, stream, website, books, products, etc.) 4. Monetize through as many verticals as possible including sponsors, ad revenue, merch, patreon, products/services, etc.
Loved the video. Saying we have to focus on a niche first, how do you know you have maxed out your niche? I would love to see some in depth analysis on what would be the metric on good trajectory for a small youtube channel (asking for a friend). I love the interaction I have with my subscribers. However, I would like to grow my audience and brand. I do not know if my niche is too small or if my content is not good enough. Yet, I am still improving my video editing and the content based on the comments I received but I am still navigating in the hundreds view pool.
Finished the whole video, didn’t even stop at the 24min mark. As a small clothing business owner this information was very valuable. Feel like there was so much info that I need to rewatch to take it all in!
35:33 I actually have a lot of issues with RECOGNIZING that I am actually an extremely likable person according to very people I meet and interact with. Internally I feel like people dislike me, are annoyed by me, would rather me not exist, etc. This has been something I've been working on the past three years in therapy, but I still do not seem to get it-even knowing this fact and stating it out loud-that people are highly interested in what I have to offer. Social blindness-or mind blindness-is a huge part of being autistic and it's something I've been attempting to overcome in therapy, but it's been the bane of my existence since I first learned how to talk. As a consequence I would turn to the written word in order to express myself because I was literally bullied into submission in order to stop talking from a very young age, at 4 or 5. That's when I learned how to write and I can't seem to shut up because nobody can stop me now. I can also talk now without being constantly interrupted and told to shut up thanks to streaming platforms.
from the 24 minute callout onward the value of this video skyrocketed, super great info and very well presented! honestly saving this one bc those last 5ish minutes had some big motivation there
I always find it interesting when people refer to online engagement as not real. Like when casually saying ‘like in real life’. Imo, online interaction is absolutely real life
24 minutes in so far... Great video and great content. As someone who has a large interest in brand building (and works for a major brand) this advice is spot on. Looking forward to the next 16 minutes!
Taking more and more time to grow a brand while at first not really believing in my niche, taught me a lot. Starting to believe in your brand (and yourself) is where it all starts and learning how to effectively grow your brand by focussing and scheduling your time is very important. Thanks for giving back my focus again Devin Nash. (Comment after the 24 minute mark🙌)
Thank you! I have been juggling so much while starting my business and getting discouraged but this is exactly what I needed. BUILDING TRUST TAKES TIME!
35:34 Really important stuff here. I think that before you ask something to the audience, they have to get to know you and your work/content first. THEN after they receive value is when they'll be more open to whatever you're asking. But it takes time and effort to develop. At least that's how i see it.
Excellent advice. Thank you. Having to think about how to apply some of these principle to our niche (the fountain pen community.) You’ve given me the key … finding out where discussions are happening!
I didn't realize how bad I was doing my growth strategy. I'm going to watch this several times to write down the strats you are giving so I can actually apply this correctly so I can grow the right way! Thank you Devin, much appreciation
Another Devin Nash BANGER! The funnel example really contextualized for me where I should be putting my effort on these different platforms. Huge gold nugget!
This one video has helped SO much in shifting my mindset from gamer to content creator. Easy to understand, no fancy language, just what has been proven to work and why 🙏🙏🙏
It's so much valuable information just in one video. It's like getting knowledge of multiple books just in 41mins.. Oh and yeah I didn't even notice until you mentioned that we have passed the 24mins mark. Amazing and very valuable content. Thank you Devin for putting it out there for free. Totally worth the time that I spent watching your videos.
As usual, great insight and advise. I was surprised to see this Zero to 1 strat. I've actually been doing a very similar thing over the last 9-10 months, mostly via subreddits, related forms, & discords. Unfortunately not at the consistent daily volume to notice significate returns. It seems I've gotten a bad habit over the years of identifying a couple of these types of trends myself, but not having the confidence and/or follow through to seize the day as it were 🙁. But nonetheless it will definitely be something I will focus on even more going forward, along with your other advise in this vid.
24:25 Really love the continually evolving approach you have to talking about these concepts. One of the things I struggle with most is narrowing down EXACTLY what value I provide. I seem to be all over the place(insert always has been meme) and just engage with EVERY SINGLE TOPIC that doesn't make me sick to the stomach and since I was a child would just comment even if I had little to no idea what the topic is even about .I would just give my "cabbage brain take" on whatever it is. I don't know if that's valuable to the world or not, and I would really like to focus on a niche, but I don't really know how to do that. I've been journaling a lot more again and I really need to sit in "the lab" some more and answer these SPECIFIC questions. Not the GENERAL IDEA, not riffing on whatever pops into my head, but sitting down and tackling these questions with PRECISION.
I've had a similar experience. Just hit 39 and am just beginning to realize there are patterns of instinct and messaging to how I comment and why. A lot of it relates to my upbringing and life experiences and the lens that's formed. I now know, from basketball as a kid to raiding in WoW to filmmaking in college, that high stakes teamwork matters to me and the group psychology it takes to transcend individual faults is very interesting. That's just one example. Find your patterns and relate them to your triggers and see what story emerges.
Amazing video! If I could add one thing to this that has helped since I started recently, is to try out different content formats, like lists, or reacts or biographies, just things that range from entertaining to educational and then you can get to see what your audience appreciates.
I was wondering if you could maybe do a thing about how to grow a brand as an artist? i feel like there is so little resources on helping artists help themselves, any advice would be so helpful.
The Most Valuable Video On Building a Brand That I didn't Know I needed. I like the focus on providing value just through thoughts and ideas. Will be sure to practice this.
I'll be honest, I usually don't apply many of the strategies and methods you lay out in your videos, but I watch them all 100% of the way through because I enjoy listening to your insights on various subjects. Commenting at the 24 minute mark. :P
watched it all the way though and i gotta say. i think its definitely hard to grow a brand. but HARDER to just keep at it. not give up. and work hard. if you can do that, you got this!
OK, I'm gonna do the thing. 24 mins in and still listening. It's very interesting so far because I STARTED OFF doing this sort of thing, and then as stuff went on and I had more viewers etc. I kinda... stopped. Which is silly. Gonna keep watching, very much enjoying it so far!
24 minute callout! Actually taking physical notes right now. So far, my gem of the video is "Valuable comments stand out everywhere". I will definitely try to jump into the comments and avoid just lurking as much. Time to actually engage! Thank you for the great content Devin!
I find value in this video. Thank you. I have been looking for a video that would help me grow. I am astonished that such a kind person is on youtube! This made me ask some real questions. It resonated with me, better yet it allows me to do what I desperately needed today. To help a friend that is struggling growing her brand as well.
Incredible video as always! I am a little confused (maybe I’m just overthinking), but you’ve said that it is better to stream across multiple platforms then to be exclusive. Does that still count as focusing on one main platform (since it is all the same content, concurrently) or would that count as syndication. I feel like posting more clip like or at least edited content on UA-cam and tiktok would be better than just streaming there. The other thing is, how do you change brands as a creator. If you are known for a specific niche, is there some effective to pivot to something fairly or totally unrelated or do you just have to start from the beginning (notwithstanding the audience that still follows you) with building the brand? Anyways, awesome video, always love watching you!!!
I think multistreaming in case one of the things blows up/for more exposure but still having one of those platforms in mind as main and focusing most efforts there. Like streaming to youtube and twitch and facebook but rly going all out in twitch with chat interaction, plugin, bots, community pools chellanges games etc.
Solid video Devin! I've been creating for a while and only recently found MY platform(s) as well as observed from my own experience the power of syndication. Its good to be able to put a term to the strategy and get reinforcement that the approach you're taking is working or at least something others have found works for them 🙂
24m gang! I love every video and appreciate your advice on providing value through twitter:threads and reddit without the ask. Ive noticed some recent success by responding to larger content creators with a valuable response. Will work on more threads and insert myself in conversations where they're happening: reddit and FB
Took me a while to finish this video because of the great information. Really gives perception on how to go about getting yourself out there when there are so many people doing exactly the same thing. Really gives a direction to go if your are stuck or just starting.
Finished your vid. Always inspirational man, thank you. Found a lot of value in you breaking down 0-1 and emphasizing curation on a focus. It's weird how, even with some of the stuff you're saying having been touched on before, it can take multiple lectures to chisel through the internalization process. I've been meandering on twitch/Twitter/discord/reddit since 2015 and only in recent weeks have been awakening to a deeper appreciation for squad coop games / team psychology in general and narrative design / storytelling as a craft. This video is putting wheels on that. So thanks again!
Perfect timing, I was just planning to shift to the next gear and start a Patreon. It's good to get a reality check on everything that needs to be planned ahead of time so I'm fully ready to launch. I'll take the 24 minute secret callout and go back to my notepad!
Great video! I've been watching for a couple years now for content creation advice. This was packaged very well and I'll be sharing it with others that are interested in growing a brand!
Could somebody possible leave some links to the types of threads hes saying we should make? Just looking for some good examples for times to post and such.
omg, when u said if you are here at min 24 I jumped from the seat, I thought I was doing something wrong like a teacher asking you a random question from nowhere to see if you are listening, lol.great content!!!🔥
Thank you so much for making this video! It's refreshing to see a video explaining and giving different techniques to grow a brand. And YES!! We 100% need more people that want authentic and trustworthy relationships with people in the world. Made my day hearing that hahaha
This has been such an eye-opening perspective on platform usage/valuable interactions. I definitely have been approaching certain platforms and my time on them in the wrong way. Astounding insight as always Devin! 👏
Made it to the end! Very valuable stuff. I am a small creator, and a lot of what you say makes sense. I was streaming for the longest time, hardly grew, started making YT vids and grew to over 2k subs in about a year. My channel has just crossed 700k views total so im really pleased about that. Will definitely be implementing this advice and signing up for nexus Novo. As you said, it's not going to be my main intention to get money as I'd like to buiild first, however it's a great resource that will come in handy later on
ty for your videos. breaking things down and then expanding on each idea really helps me understand each point and not feel as overwhelmed. keep up the great work xD
Hey, Devin! Very useful information. I came across your channel while looking for info why not to sign Twitch affiliate and been following you ever since. Really appreciate the insights and advices 👍
Thanks for all the tips! Definitely going to try to put some of these to actions. Always good getting a refresher on this kind of stuff especially from the CEO of Marketing™ :D
Thanks again for the video Devin. I'm actually really excited to apply the Zero to One strategy, sounds like a lot of fun meeting people on ground level.
I love the energy on these videos because it's like walking into class with that cool professor who is just getting right down to the brass tacks with no fluff and gets rolling immediately, if you're late to class he doesn't give a crap either he just keeps moving on.

to operate a brand from a position of generosity is a tough goal but a great privilege
Woah, surprised to see you here watching devin nash.
reached 24 min mark! thanks for the video again :-)
What you said around (13:54) resonated with me, I'm all for passionate discourse but when I see people follow it up with an ask of some sorts it makes it feel less about passion for the grind and field and more about social climb, in most cases, genuine relationships will create themselves when you present value through the things you produce

Its good to be able to put a term to the strategy and get reinforcement that the approach you're taking is working or at least something others have found works for them 🙂
You sir, are gem. You deserve 10x the subscription base. Thankyou.

Devin do you provide private consulting services still? Would love to get your opinion on my socials.
I wish we had one done especifically for gaming, like in details or some tips that could work. This is super helpful

I have to say your content is so helpful and informative. Thank you for all the content you put out
Finished your vid.
Great video Devin, it has confirmed and built additional value on a lot of ideas I've had myself about growth strategy and brand building.

Thanks man! Gave me everything I needed to kick my process, thanks again!!!
Great video! I've been watching for a couple years now for content creation advice. This was packaged very well and I'll be sharing it with others that are interested in growing a brand!
Very Insightful I've been wanting to learn how to grow and become an authority in the game i play and fulfill the niche. Thank You!
I was there, when this video reached its 24 minutes Mark.
A new age of video length has begun.

Thank you so much for making this video! It's refreshing to see a video explaining and giving different techniques to grow a brand. And YES!! We 100% need more people that want authentic and trustworthy relationships with people in the world. Made my day hearing that hahaha
made it all the way through, thabks so much for this!!
My mind is always blown from these videos, time to put in the work. Ty Devin and good luck to everyone

24 minute survivor. Glad you're back to doing these talks. Watching these vids is always a good gut check for me when i think about making stuff.
