This brings back memories,…I grew up in Queens, on the 4th of July we would buy a case of beer with my friends and head over to the Rockaway boardwalk. Back then you could drink beer in public and shoot fireworks from the beach then head over to Rockaway Playland. Those were the days,…. I don’t think you can do that anymore. Lots of great memories.
Our golden days were our highschool, our, singing , our dance, our evening parties, our friends, and also the romances among our classmate....Oh those were the days
Great memories living in Far Rockaway from 1981-1989. I lived on B. 20th St and seacreat Blvd and I worked at Rockway food Plaza. Attended PS 215 is53 and The Rock. Now getting older in the West Coast. Thank you.
I used to cut out of Beach Channel HS and hang out at Martin's Corner @ the corner of B 98th St and Rockaway Beach Blvd. Right across the street from Playland... I spent many, many days on the beach from 86th to 116th streets!!!!! I even lived in the Underwood Motel, AKA the broad walk. lol I truly love Rockaway Beach...it was some of the best times of my life!
We were the lucky ones to be able to grow up in far Rockaway in Queens New York yes it was and still is the greatest place to grow up in God bless our old town we will never forget that time we had growing up there and to the people that just came down for the summer you were lucky 🍀 ones as well
It makes me sad to look at this but I can’t stop looking. It certainly was the days born and raised. I’m a true Far rockaway girl for life no matter where I go. Thank you for sharing this❤️
Thanks for the photos, nicely edited with the song. I am an editor in Los Angeles now but grew up in the fifties and sixties in Rockaway Beach. I lived on Beach 66th Street as a boy, worked a few summers at Martin's Corner and loved going to Playland. This brings back a lot of bitter-sweet memories.
My pleasure my friend glad you enjoyed. Happy to know you made it, (a neighbor from Rockaway) as an Editor. I worked in Playland myself back then. Thanks for chiming in!
@gangsterpeople4life No...Rockaway is a great neighbourhood. Like with all, there are good & bad parts. Lets use 116St as a guide. If u go lower than 116St..it gets rough as u start to see the projects/ghettos to Far Rockaway. Anything above 116thSt is getting richer. Either way the generally the island is great. The people on the whole are great too. Rockaway beach is very close to my heart. Peace Rockaway Beach & all my friendly locals there...see u all soon.
Great job by Tony...

It's not an island, Duke. Covered on THREE sides by water, it's a peninsula. Sol good though, right?
