How many times did my brothers and i beg my mother for a few coins to ride the bumper cars!!!! Pulling splinters from my feet from the boardwalk. Hanging out under the boardwalk. We were never allowed to go swimming without my mother or older brother. Almost drowned twice from the waves and undertow. Burning our xmas trees at 40th street on the sand on New Years Day, or Little xmas on Jan 6th. Childhood memories from the 60's.

I spent every summer at a bungalow on Beach 36th Street from 1951-1968. I have so many nostalgic feelings about this time. I wish my daughter would have experienced it. Now in Delray Beach, Florida where I have the beach, but not the boardwalk and everything on it.

My mom said there was a movie theater around Bch 35 Street where Jerry's Knishes and the bumper cars were. She said you had to go downstairs to get to it--in the 1950s.

Abe beinstock gave me my first little league uniform there .

We were the lucky ones to be able to grow up in far Rockaway in Queens New York yes it was and still is the greatest place to grow up in God bless our old town we will never forget that time we had growing up there and to the people that just came down for the summer you were lucky 🍀 ones as well

This brings back memories,…I grew up in Queens, on the 4th of July we would buy a case of beer with my friends and head over to the Rockaway boardwalk. Back then you could drink beer in public and shoot fireworks from the beach then head over to Rockaway Playland. Those were the days,…. I don’t think you can do that anymore. Lots of great memories.

Always bittersweet - these pics, memories, music. Seems like a lifetime ago - growing up in Rockaway in the 60s. Fills me with sadness and a certain glow of times passed. Thank God I was drawn to the beach all seasons of the year....rain, sleet, sun and snow - I was there practically daily with our dog, walking with the flying seagulls crying overhead. I thank God for the beautiful memories.
