- In this video, we come back to do the repairs on the John Deere 8370R that we previously inspected. You will see the VGT turbo replaced, the Fan drive replaced with the new "dry" style, and the IVT output shaft seal replaced. It's a good day to get thIs green iron moving again!

Huge shout out to Trilogy Farms! Thanks for trusting me and Sloan Implement with your John Deere equipment!
Good work ZK.
The Iowa farm boy.
Your videos are great! I see JD hired Rube Goldberg to design fan clutches after New Holland/CaseIH had him design rethrashers on the 8010.
This really isn’t much different than cardiac surgery. Appreciate your attention to detail.
zk u the man thanks for being one our top john deere service technicians man and I thank everyone at Sloan equipment LLC were u work from my dealership ship I work for john years united Ag&turf Inc here in north texas I been working for john deere 18 years after I left the farm back home in North East Louisiana for 31 years as heavy equipment farmhand operator running combines and tractors
Thanks so much for your videos. I’m getting ready to take my fan drives apart to see if they are worth rebuilding or just replace. Watching someone do this and talk each step makes everything so much easier for us novices. Wish I had heard of rebuilding at 1000 hours. Grease every 500 hours but it’s at 4000 now. Thanks again.
Glad to help
Yet another first class repair and awesome video as usual Zeth. Nice seeing the team work from you both which is very satisfying and shows how you appreciate your fellow team member Zeth. Thanks as always.
Thanks for sharing. That electric socket wrench seems pretty powerful. Nice wrench.
Thanks for keeping our farmers in business Mr. Z! It’s amazing how much time, effort and money is required to keep this equipment operating and put food on our tables.
Thanks for another great video ZK.
Wow. Excellent teaching tool. Never seen nor head of these pieces.
A comment from me first. I do realize the engineers that build this stuff build their way. It seems to me some of these replacements are twice as hard as need be. You, the person who keeps the green going, has to work very hard to get at the broken piece. Wow.
Well anyway, back to work at hand.
The drive clutch system on the fan system was interesting. You showed the new type clutch piece so I assume John Deere redesigned that piece. Once you had stuff out of the way, you had that new piece in there and ready to hook all back up.
Bye the way, really like your electric wrench. Works great. See you even used it to break bolts loose. Great.
Now the turbo. Can’t believe what you and Josh had to do to get that piece out of there. Seems JD made it difficult for you in repairing mode. I am sure that is not a cheap piece. You and Josh did great getting the old out and new in. Piece is really buried. Lots to get out of the way. Good learning on what it is and it’s place in the system. You explanations of what is what was really interesting and teaching tool. Wow.
Appreciate you helping hand and teaching with Josh as he learns JD. Sure it is not easy.
Well enough from me-ha. Thought this video was interesting and I learned a lot.
That seal on that drive shaft and process I had not seen before. Once again, not the easiest for you, the technician.
You and Josh take care and be safe.
Looking forward to the next video.
Thanks for everything ZK.
The Iowa farm boy.
Steve.
Amazing to the amount of wear in only 550 separator hours . The abrasive wear of soil (down corn) is really something. That combine should be field ready when you finish.Parts availability is sure a great feature of John Deere.
Some heavy and awkward lifting there Zac, great work to get the job done. Respect.
Viewed 7-10-22 from Illinois, It is always interesting to follow you in the "fix and repair mode" as I have done many years ago now retired. My time was with a red brand, but regardless the color
the fix and repair remains the same. Your videos should be used as training for new Sloan employees or as a review before going into a project. I like your style of undertaking a project from start to finish, keep up the good work. If I had green equiptment you would have to be the person I want to service it.
Way cool! Wow! 40 gallons of hydraulic fluid. Well done guys.
hey zk u can bend a 3/8 rebar into a shape of a u bolt, with the two ends being 12 inches apart, and 3 inches long each. stick the tool u made into the top of hood and the hood support before removing the 2 bolts in the back to put into service position. then the hood will sit behind the weights in front and will pop the rear up higher to give u more room around turbos to work
Hello! Another video, another lesson...
Zeth another dam good video. Thanks . Sam
Super job,
Thank you very much
Those fan drives are hard to come by. I had to replace one on a 8370R a couple weeks ago after the bearing in it went out and caught the front of the tractor on fire. Deere told us it would be September before we would get it but managed to get one from another dealer .
Good stuff man👍👍👍👍
Good job man
Just curious..is it worthwhile doing the other seal on the other shaft end..while the shaft is out..or is there not one?
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos.. I have a 8370R that just started the 2795.07 fault :( How do you get the hood in this position to work on it? I was thinking of just replacing the vane position sensor until I looked it up…I am stunned, even for Deere parts is robbery! It’s like $700 !!!! I sure don’t want to just replace sensors at that ridiculous price…any way to do “diagnostics” without Service Advisor?
Take the two bolts out on the rear hood mount and it goes forward. You’re probably time and money ahead to replace the turbo. Sometimes replacing either the actuator or position sensor fixes it but usually returns due to carbon build up in the turbo.
Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll look into some reman vs new turbos.
I bought a Reman turbo from local dealer and plan to replace it tomorrow (9/7/24). You had to do a calibration in this video. Is that required when replacing it? When I picked up the new turbo, I asked my dealer if I had to calibrate. The shop mechanic couldn’t answer. He said to put it in and see if it throws a fault, and if so it would probably need calibrated… I don’t have much confidence in my local dealership as you can imagine.
Super video
Good afternoon sir, sorry to bother
8235r showing code PTP 2000.09. Communication fault. System with restricted function. Restart engine to attempt vehicle recovery.
Any input on what connections to check
Another great video! Thanks Zeth! Do you or any other Techs use air powered tools now a days or has it all gone to battery operated tools? I sure can see where they are much nicer with not having that air hose in the way. Take Care!
I use a air 1" impact and air hammer and that's about it
@@ZKMasterTech Right on Zeth! How tools have changed in the past 16 years!
I was wondering if you have ever done much work to a 8410T. I was wondering if they are good tractors or if I should stay away from them and if I was to buy one what to look for if I was to go look at one? Thanks
If it's an 8410 it's the best they ever made!
Question. My brother and I we are trying to get a 7215R tractor what do you think about that tractor
Find a 7810
@@calebrozeboom thank you we have the 7820 I just one references on the 7215R
hi zeth, good job, i have a question for you, on many 8r and 8rx series i can see elettrical soket on monoblock on the right side, what is this? thanks good working
What possessed you to drive all the way to Minnesota to help the millennial farmer out with repairs ? Seems like a long way to travel !?
Changed from a Honeywell turbo to a Garrett?
Shouldn't it just be VG Turbo? Since I am assuming that means Variable Geometry Turbo.
Is this a tractor for a corporate or a family farm?
I guess I commented before saw the farm sticker on the door. Love your content 😍
What happened to your other apprentice?
What happened to your other helper
👍
Are you working at the farmers site?
Stanley if you watched the video ZK said he was goin back to the shop to get oil and goin back next day to fill the tractor
great job guys thanks for sharing Zeth 🦘👍
Do you think the reason there isn’t a Massey Ferguson mechanic with a UA-cam channel is because they never break down?
😲
Keep the deere's running
Another great video sir. After watching a few of these fan drive and VGT replacement vids makes me appreciate our 8000 ten series. 6000 hrs on each with very minimal repairs.
Thanks Zeth for another excellent video! 😊👍
Another great video. I really love the channel.
See on the next video zeth
We have 2 Turbos, 1 Fan drive repair and new Gear box, Tractor have 1500HRs 8730R Auto power, Tractor is now sold :P
Why he call the Parts „she“? Are they female in USA?
That really stinks for you as a tech and for the customer that fixing the actuator did not fix it.
If faced with the same problem again would you replace the whole turbo the first time or is the parts replacement still the best choice?
It would also be interesting to see the inside of the turbo and determine the actual failure component.
