Number One ! Know your System !! Eliminate possible variables ! Test ! Replace selected item ... re Test ... then field test ... great diagnosis ZK ...
Some days I miss turning wrenches and then my back and my knees remind me that I don't. Your videos bring me back to what I loved about some of my previous jobs; the troubleshooting, methodical dissection and reassembly during the repair and the satisfaction of bringing something back to life. You're doing a great job and I thank you for that!
You are 100% correct Zeth, that as a tech I found that everyday was a learning day, but also outside of work, I also treated my whole life the same way that you never stop learning about life! Amazing how many people don't think that way. Thanks for a great video.
"Take that 9460R" I could sense your frustration in dealing with the machine, but you kept your cool on camera, persevered, and got the machine back to operating status. Great Tech skills, I salute you Sir. 😃
Seth I have been with Deere for 23 years I am as you a master tech and also a field tech, I have seen this two times on 9560RT’s , it is an internal transmission problem. The two I had had were both tractors at around 250 hours, we had to get them into the shop, at that point DTAC had me installing DR’s in all of the transmission ports running tests, tests and more tests. Turned out because these tractors were so new with so little hours they had use remove the transmissions, they sent us new transmissions, and wanted the failed ones shipped back immediately. Now here’s the thing Deere never told us what had failed in the two transmissions..
I’m a warranty manager for a car manufacturer and I appreciate how you always talk about learning, simple best practices and following directions. Something we work hard at every day with all our tech’s.
Hi Zeth! …. Really enjoying your videos ! And I really hope the top brass at Sloan AND Deere know how well you a represent the companies with your skill and attitude 👏🏻👍🏻 big the green iron moving big man 🦾
The 1st time for something that you haven't encountered before is always a great but sometimes frustrating situation however if you figure it out and fix it money can't buy the knowledge you just gained so it's a victory all the way around!!!
Zeth, Enjoy your videos, and your trouble shooting techniques. Love your knowledge and experience awesome mechanic. Definitely look you up at the next one. Stay safe!!
Ya know zeth its jobs like this that makes you a superior tech you didnt give up and i could see your wheels turning the whole time you was in the cab going through how this is supposed to work and talking your way tbrough it either way love the channel awesome job sir😮
I retired from a coal fired steam plant and there was nothing I loved better than putting my mind inside those steam turbine/generators or into the boilers to try and understand why everyone was living through some difficult times. And it could be very difficult at times. Oil controls, electrical controls and air-operated controls and many times those different systems were working in concert.
I like your story about the 12th gear . I thought you were going to say it stopped at 20 mph 😂 but I know 7 mph is fast for a machine. Your a master tech I enjoy watching and learning . I’m an outboard motor mechanic . I love farm machinery. Thanks for your videos 👍
On our 7810, the speed sensor went off. Which made parking jump in when driving. You were glued to the windshield.😂 The error came and went, but after some troubleshooting we found the cause. Spent half a day in the workshop then out and driving again.😜👌
Does Deere not realize what a POS the 9R is? I am a die hard Deere customer. I own all Deere row crop tractors and they are hands down better than the competition. Last year however, after several major breakdowns on my 9s, I bought a 580 steiger. Everything about that tractor is better than my green ones. Why they felt the need to over complicate those tractors so much is beyond me.
Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable. Well, that was a learning experience for sure. Glad you knew were to look or what to test and all that. I was totally in the dark on this one. Had no idea of where to look or even ask for help. Oh boy. I still am somewhat confused on this clutch issue but followed you on some of the tests and your descriptions of what was wrong and parts needed and all that. My compliments to you ZK. You knew what to follow to check things out and what to look at. Techs like yourself need a pat on the back for figuring it out. I had no idea. Just following you-ha!!! If I said I totally understand what you did to fix the trans , then I am not being truthful. Follow you on the basics but about it. With the technology now days, techs like yourself have so much on your plate to figure some of these issues out. Wow. Nice job ZK figuring this one out. Huge learning experience here. Thanks for everything ZK. I am still scratching my head-ha!!!!! The Iowa Farm Boy.
Not a tech, but I am in ag, My first thought was a bad sensor or electronic problem. These new tractors and trucks are nothing but a pain in the ass. Thanks for the videos. By the way if it's not red leave it in the shed!😊
WOW ! That was quite the experience. I can see why you are fastening the seatbelt in case you are ejected again. Okie-dokie. . . . "So who needed another drill bit on the assembly line?" Of course, we will never know. Keep up the fantastic work. 😊
#1, anyone who puts around $500k in a machine should know to check fluid levels at least weekly. #2, JD diagnostics seem to be very vague in actually diagnosing the problem. #3, the engineers who design equipment don't operate nor maintain what they design, let alone do service on their product. If they did have to turn the wrenches, I bet they would do a better job. Manufacturer shouldn't hire anyone who isn't willing to work on what they design. You Service Tech's have your work cut out for you. Great video!
What a fun video to watch. Has to be be pretty rewarding at the end of the day figuring something out like this. Kind of the same for me with computers. You have this...this... and this.... that could be the problem but then you get THAT random thing that totally catches you for a loop. Great job man!
I had a new holland t9 last year that had a faulty gear shift solenoid, would stall it out out in a few gears because it was trying to engage multiple gears at once. It did this to the point it burnt out the clutch Pack. We rebuilt the trans and it still had issues, it was only then that we found the faulty solenoid. A $200 solenoid was enough to cause a week long transmission rebuild.
Loved this one Zeth, thank you. I was thinking what could have happened while this tractor was in this shed. Everything was covering dust so it had been there a while and it drove in ok. So something happened while is was stood, otherwise you would have got the call earlier. 👍
Your story about 4 clutches reminded me about driving our 4994 tractor. you could be in 12th gear and if you hit the clutch it would go back to 1st. If your let the clutch out there was a big surprises
When you asked the question at the beginning I thought maybe a clutch but had no clue about the solenoid :) I'm still wondering where all the hydraulic oil went though!
Had a 988k cat loader. Park brake was a dry cavity except for the pistons. Pistons partially seized, so pressure was good but they weren’t actually released. Naturally operator roasted it.
I did a 450 hour machine that the rivet that plugs the oil passage in the shaft came free It was in the piston and creating millings that were getting stuck in clutch a solenoid It was an awesome place to work lol
Well done, Zeth, you show your mastery of tractor systems. Does your office have access to some manner of tech forum where you can input the problem and see if anyone else has had to contend with the same? Stay safe out there.
You need a macnaught transfer pump for 5gal pails. Milwaukee is good for some Stuff but the macnaught rocks for filling plus they have a meter all cordless
29:20 "why you need to calibrate the transmission after a i.e. oil change": You know, after all these years of pondering about that, it actually does make sense. Perfect sense.
Does JD offer a maintenance contract? Seems like it would be a good investment for JD as well as the farmer. When I was a technician I loved troubleshooting issues for customers with maint. contracts. That way I wasn't pressured to get the job done. I could do what was right and not what was fast.
Filming these videos obviously adds time to service calls. Are the customers charged for this extra time? Just something I’ve been curious about. Other than that I love the videos and love to learn
Hi zk mastertech I've been watching you videos for a while love what your doing. I'm an apprentice for farm machinery ive just started my apprenticeship its hard to buy tools you need. Can you please do a video of what tools apprentices should buy
Hi. New subscriber. I have watched Some of your videos in the past and Have totally enjoyed them. I don't Know if you have heard but Colorado has passed right to repair bill including tractors and combines.
Deere uses similar valves to that on their combines hydrolic block. I had a flake of steel get stuck in one on mine when a hydro pump went out. Those things are EXPENSIVE!!!
In discovering the " LETTER " C " and " R " mixing you up , and there being Letters C & R on the side PORT location , would you be sending a note to John Deer engineer department to address to location or even the font size as this could mess with local repair folks.
hola, trabajo en una compañia y tengo un problema con un 9460R al salir la maquina no sale hay que acelerar a 1500 revoluciones para que salga la marcha me ayudarias con un manual de diagnostico
The problem with today's new tractors is everything is run by a computer. The older tractors, 50's and 60's worked much better as there was no computer running the tractor. If you are in your late 70's you will remember the John Deere tractor called "Johnny Popper". My neighbor had one and you could always tell when he was working in the fields from the sound that tractor made. It's too bad that they don't make them like they use to.
Also look at your park brake pressure threw Service Advisor and or armrest display, this will tell you what the park brake is doing, and because you no codes this means it is reading properly.
I have a 7320 with a ivt, it go stuck in park because of parking solenoid defective, I replaced both but now says parking brake won’t release put in come home but kills engine when do that. Driving me crazy… Any ideas?
Number One ! Know your System !! Eliminate possible variables ! Test ! Replace selected item ... re Test ... then field test ... great diagnosis ZK ...
I don’t know how old you are but you’re filled with knowledge and I know your company is happy to have you on staff!! Keep up good work!!
Thank you! Will do!
I been watching this channel for a long time and I am now a full self employed John Deere service master technician lol

You are a great mechanic and I love watching you and I learn alot
I’m impressed how you figured it out. That’s a master tech. Love the channel
Tractors have come so far in the past 50 years.
Great video Zeth! Was enjoyable to watch you process that issue and find the cause!
Zeth, Enjoy your videos, and your trouble shooting techniques. Love your knowledge and experience awesome mechanic. Definitely look you up at the next one. Stay safe!!

learning is what keeps life interesting , that's why I like your videos
I know nothing about tractors, cars and trucks are my thing but your videos are well made and very interesting.
Another great vid! Very informative and educational! Keep the deere running!

I love the way you solve Problems
Great video. A learning experience for all. As you said , that valve looked fine, but visual inspection does NOT mean much.
Not a tech, but I am in ag, My first thought was a bad sensor or electronic problem. These new tractors and trucks are nothing but a pain in the ass.
Thanks for the videos.
By the way if it's not red leave it in the shed!😊
Glad you got it figured out. That is why they pay you the big bucks. Man I can't imagine a tractor that big coming to a dead stop...

Fantastic job using all your skills Zeth thanks for sharing 🦘

That was a puzzle, but you handled it!
That is one thing about working as an ag tech always learning something new everyday.

This is a great video! Nice job explaining and showing us how it's done. Thank you
Nice job on that one. The owner needs to check his oil more often. Hate to see a neglected piece of machinery.
Good job Zeth, there’s no replacement for experience. Well done
Hey nice video, this is the kind of content I really like tractor serves calls.
Nice job troubleshooting! The tough ones are the fun ones.
Nice one zeth always something new to learn 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Some faults need a bit more thinking time 👍👍👍
G'day Zeth. Another excellent video as usual. You're a gun! Keep them coming mate!!! Cheers from near Geelong, Victoria, Australia 🙂
Your story about 4 clutches reminded me about driving our 4994 tractor. you could be in 12th gear and if you hit the clutch it would go back to 1st. If your let the clutch out there was a big surprises
Wow good fix Zeth! It’s amazing what what we all come across!
Nice troubleshooting skills. I work in aviation and some our tech cant do thatkind of work. Kerp it up.
You are awesome buds. Hats off, hats off.
Nice job and I love the round windshield on the old 4430😊
Well done on identifying transmission issue! I have enjoyed your videos thanks for these great posts!
I have a little 2032r and it's really cool to see how the big tractors work.
love the snapon light..havent seen that sort here in New Zealand
Another great vid! Keep the deere's running
When you asked the question at the beginning I thought maybe a clutch but had no clue about the solenoid :)
I'm still wondering where all the hydraulic oil went though!
You and me both!
Had a 988k cat loader. Park brake was a dry cavity except for the pistons. Pistons partially seized, so pressure was good but they weren’t actually released. Naturally operator roasted it.
Zeth i had my fingers..arm's..and leg's crossed for you before the test!! CK UK
Wow what a story about that stuck drill bit! That could have ended in a nasty lawsuit!
Great job Zeth!
I did a 450 hour machine that the rivet that plugs the oil passage in the shaft came free
It was in the piston and creating millings that were getting stuck in clutch a solenoid
It was an awesome place to work lol
Well done, Zeth, you show your mastery of tractor systems. Does your office have access to some manner of tech forum where you can input the problem and see if anyone else has had to contend with the same? Stay safe out there.
These scattered brained jobs keeps the mind sharp! 12th gear anxiety also keeps you on your toes. 😁👍
Don’t have to worry about codes on that 30 series next to it!
You need a macnaught transfer pump for 5gal pails. Milwaukee is good for some
Stuff but the macnaught rocks for filling plus they have a meter all cordless
How is he so knowledgeable? Boy is he good.
Couldn't help but notice the copious amount of cab air fresheners in the air vents LOL.
If you only had smellivision.
Valves always open and close as you shift gears if you have a sticky one it might not do the job at least you were fortunate enough to figure it out
When this thing goes to the scrap yard, the old 806 will still be running!
29:20 "why you need to calibrate the transmission after a i.e. oil change": You know, after all these years of pondering about that, it actually does make sense. Perfect sense.
Good one👍 Wish you had more videos like daily 😊
Good job, did the Farmer have any clue to the disapearing Trans Oil ?
Hydraulic...
Leaky couplers, hoses, cylinders add up over time.
I do wonder why everything needs such a level of technology.
Thank you for sharing
Everything worked out for you, replacing the valve and calibrating the box.
I often feel that electrical troubleshooting is like chasing smoke. Intermittent problems particularly.
Your very good at your job 👍👍
You are brilliant. Amazing!
Glad you figured it out 😊 but why was the hydraulic fluid low, where did the fluid go?
Good question!
Where did all the oil go??? My guess is someone borrowed 15 or 30 gallons from the UNLOCKED reservoir and nobody noticed or reported the missing oil.
Hi zk mastertech I've been watching you videos for a while love what your doing. I'm an apprentice for farm machinery ive just started my apprenticeship its hard to buy tools you need. Can you please do a video of what tools apprentices should buy
Already did
Ohh ok sorry didn't have a look 😂😂
Hi. New subscriber. I have watched
Some of your videos in the past and
Have totally enjoyed them. I don't
Know if you have heard but Colorado has passed right to repair bill including tractors and combines.
Good, informative video.
I love "hard lesson" stories!
Have told a few myself!
Save someone else the trouble...IF they listen.
Now that could have been an expensive fix
Deere uses similar valves to that on their combines hydrolic block. I had a flake of steel get stuck in one on mine when a hydro pump went out. Those things are EXPENSIVE!!!
Hi Zeth, love your work. Was that a literary reference in there, 'Three clutches good, four clutches bad'?
Very well done!👏☘️👍
Nice job Zeth, everyday is a school day in this job, keep those video coming too
Some tractors could use an exorcism as well as mechanical repair. You need to keep a priest on your staff. Stay safe and God bless.
In discovering the " LETTER " C " and " R " mixing you up , and there being Letters C & R on the side PORT location , would you be sending a note to John Deer engineer department to address to location or even the font size as this could mess with local repair folks.
great job !!!!
hola, trabajo en una compañia y tengo un problema con un 9460R al salir la maquina no sale hay que acelerar a 1500 revoluciones para que salga la marcha me ayudarias con un manual de diagnostico
One of are 9460r Engine randomly dies no codes any thoughts now i’ll thing about shift to 12 always learn something from videos thanks
My bet is bad ecu
Question, why does it throw a code for 'clutch circuit' even when the coil is fine, but the valve was the issue?
Muchas felicidades,gracias por el video
Was told along time ago. If you ain’t testing your guessing.
the problems began when the put computers on tractors
