I took my 15 yr old son to the Monkees 50th anniversary concert and bought him two t shirts. We got floor seats row 2 front and center stage AWESOME! We had a blast, he said that it was the coolest thing ever. Great memories. #Monkeesforever
Getting up early on Saturday mornings to see the Monkees show on channel 2. My Dad was so proud that I got up on my own (to cut the grass), but that had to wait. He did catch on and watched the show with me many times, great times!
I must say that, though NO ONE will ever be able to top the energy of the original studio version of this great song, none of the covers I've found on UA-cam come anywhere near this live version. Sure, they're a bit older, but they sound great! Mickey Dolenz is a very good singer and has a wonderful natural sound to his voice. I'm a musician, and I loved this song in 8th grade, and I love it to this day. Nice job, guys!
I can't tell you how instrumental (dual meaning with pun) the TV series was entertaining our entire household during the 80s. Back then the series were just reruns, but by 1989, I had purchased every MONKEYS album and cassette tape ever released.
Same here - Love. Love, Love!!! You guys sound great!!! Davy will NEVER really be gone - he is there in spirit with you!! I know you guys KNOW that!!! "Thank You" Micky, for looking toward "Heaven", and "honoring" Davy as you do - it's very touching, and very appreciated!!!
Start at 1:18 and watch Peter singing. At one point he stops, but the vocal keeps going. Then he keeps going after the vocal stops. Either someone was singing that part from offstage (while he lip-synced), or the vocal was replaced in studio after this concert. Or, maybe his mic was just down and the other singers in the band were doing the vocals.
Aw come on bro. It's pretty much the same as recognizing someone's spoken voice who you've heard speak hundreds of times. Just because it sounds familiar enough to be recognized, doesn't make it/him "one of the most underrated voices in the music industry." He's no great vocalist like maybe Dimash Kudaibergen or someone similar. ------>>> ua-cam.com/video/5WZXWTPLsoA/v-deo.html
I really like this group! To me I consider them to be the best from the generation that they started.. Peace/love to you all. Thanks for sharing your music with us!
I was like ok I’m not gonna cry not gonna cry. *Micky starts singing* *i see Peter and the screen in the back with Davey* *two seconds later I’m bawling*
Funny to hear Micky singing this in his sixties instead of in THE sixties. Yeah, Selective Service is goin' after retirees now. Get on that train to Basic Training!
It was about saying good bye to someone who was leaving for Nam....I was a young girl when my dearest cousin left for Nam. He lived with us for several years. When he returned he was different. He had two stories I will always remember - he was the radio man and if he was captured he had a cyanide pill to take and he couldn't sleep in his bed - but under it. The Viet Cong would strike at night and shoot shrapnel right above their mattresses! I am very glad he came home.
The Monkees are god and we miss Davy Jones. Bowie changed his name so as not to interfere with Davy. This is humorous but serious music Like the Archies. Where's Riverdale from here anyway? I'm guessing it's about 30 miles east of downtown LA but after all these years still not sure. Veronica and Betty are probably still there. Vixens from pages of comic books based on real life. The Monkees and the Archies wouldn't say this if it wasn't true. Herman Munster is the greatest dad and Al Lewis is my grandpa. Car 54 where are you? NYC is about 3000 miles out east of here.
This is what a truly talented musician would sound like BUT there's so much Auto-Tune being used in today's music era that it almost all artists use it in about 60% give or take. There's nothing wrong with using it BUT FOR ME it boils down to me being turned off by a song almost everytime I hear it in ANYONE'S songs. Am I alone in this??! 😐😢😑
Mickeys voice just isn't what it used to be A perfect example of why I don't go to concerts anymore. They change the performance from the original recording and not usually for the better. I only go to Chicago, Elton, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Little Richard, and Jonny Cash, etc. because they perform like the original. I can get the original music from youtube and cd/vinyl for free or a lot less.
@@chriscianciolo5823 I mis-typed. My point was meant to be what I said in the last sentence, even my favorite performers (including when the Monkees and Beatles were on tour) I would never go to their concerts. Apparently, at the time (1 year ago)I was incapable of stringing together consecutive sentences to make one coherent thought. The bottom line was to be: "A perfect example of why I don't go to concerts anymore. They change the performance from the original recording and not usually for the better." Why did you feel so moved to reach out to me about this 365-day-old post? Did it really matter what my reply was? Were you hoping to engage in meaningless banter over something that isn't even relevant? What if in "my universe" I thought they sounded the same? Do you really even care what I replied? BTW, Cash wasn't dead when I saw him perform Have a great life, Chris. Good luck looking for others to correct or argue with. Looks like you have an average talent and potential career doing this.
A brilliant band that never received the credit they deserved!!!
Watched y'all on TV when I was a lot younger. 67 now and YOU ROCK! ❤️
Right On I'm 62 Still Rocking Out To This
RIP Mr. Nesmith 🌹

Getting up early on Saturday mornings to see the Monkees show on channel 2. My Dad was so proud that I got up on my own (to cut the grass), but that had to wait. He did catch on and watched the show with me many times, great times!

He sure does have a great voice.
I was in the 6th grade in 66. I remember my sister and I would get dinner and home work done be waiting by the TV 7:30 each Monday.

Look at Peter, still shaking his hips and grooving along! Go Peter! 😊
Mickey is incredible live! Few singers today just sing like this anymore the cannot hold a tune without auto-tune. Susan
..RIP Dave and Peter... 🌹
Rest In Peace: Peter Tork (1942-2019)
Happy Birthday Micky and many more to come
God bless the Monkees!
Great vocal Mickey! Great backing vocal, Peter!

PlanetRockJesus I’d suspect his mic is just turned down on this particular song - there are other performers song backing vocals, too.
Mickey Dolenz has one of the most underrated voices in the music industry. When you here him singing there is no question who it is.

It's fully rated. By the voice rating agencies.
I was thinking the exact same thing Mr. Victor
Just saw Mike and Mickey at the Mohegan Sun a few weeks ago. Nice video tribute to Peter. Different times back then.
Always loved these guys! Great to see they are coming to Ohio - last saw them in SF in the early 70's...
Loved running home to watch their TV show after school!
Does anyone remember what we had in '67 or so. It wasn't all good back then but this is what I wanted the world to turn out like.
I really like this group! To me I consider them to be the best from the generation that they started.. Peace/love to you all. Thanks for sharing your music with us!
God Bless.tyvm for all the "MONKEES" memories!
Loved them when I was a kid in the 60s. Still do. They never lost their energy.
Sounds great...Mickey still sings great doesn't he!?
I would sooooo go see you if you came to Orlando! I know all the words! Luvsies!

I miss you,,,,I grew up with the Monkey's,,,,I would to meet you,,,shake your hand,,,,,,
Bellissima canzone!geoff47e ha fatto una versione strumentale con la chitarra,meravigliosa...😊🤗😍😘🎶🎸🎶💘💓💯💋🌅
Love it! Particularly the last ending-we got a job. The singing cooks and the way they both looked at Mickey😄
When I consider the beautiful young man in b/w doing his screen test. Lovely. 💖
GREAT SONG!!
Great anti-draft, anti-war song. Clarksville, TN was departing spot for draftees back in the 60's & 70's. "And I don't know if I'm ever coming home."
+Mike Rogers And I don't know if I'm ever coming home...
I didn't hear Anti anthing...But then again I'm buzzing a bit, musta missed the anti war part...
Wow! I never thought of it that way. I need to look this up!
those of us just waiting played it often along with fortunate son and other anti- war songs. when our turn came we did what this country ask....
I didn't know that, thank you for the lesson
Rest in peace, Peter. 😞💔
Outstanding!
I love the Monkees!
I was like ok I’m not gonna cry not gonna cry.

Marvellous!!!!😍😍😍
Peter just took that Last Train.
Hopefully he gets to meet up with Davey.
Amen and Amen
I’m sure Davy met him at the gates of heaven!
this was my favorite one
Saddest Vietnam song, "and I don't know if I'm ever coming home."
The Twokees!
they still got it
Muito legal!! Eu não sabia que essa rapaziada ainda cantava tão bem!!
Damn they sound better now than they did 5 decades ago!
Голоса как и 50 лет назад. СУПЕР
Me love too ! x
Davie Jones Lived Down The Road From Me In A Big House In Pennsylvania What A Cool Dude
And they never lost their sense of humor.
Great video!!
Getting old is sad and watching all my idols die....
It can be . . . Hope to see on the other side
This is a Vietnam song FYI. Not many people know that. So is American Women.
Wow, I didnt know that

I didn't know that! I love learning about that! 💕
One of The Who has said, last man standing is The Who. This works for The Monkees also.
Is it me or they are a tad behind in pace?
If so: they earned it. Love these guy. GOD Bless and keep them.
I don't know what year this was, But I think M and were both over 70 at this point.
What year was this video recorded? Thanks.
Thank You to Mister Mickey Dolenz
Mister Peter Tork, on Guitar
Hate to say it but I don't think Tork is singing the backup high notes...seems like a backing track
To all the posters claiming this is a war song, it is not.
A simple google search will confirm this to be so.

I recognize Mickey, but is that Peter on guitar?
Yes defo Peter....it's the glasses and silly beard that throws you!
Endscreen stuff over the last bit not good - you need to edit the video and add a chunk for those bits to cover! Please!
Did you know they weren't a real band!

In what universe does Elton John still sound like his classic recordings? Johnny Cash has been dead for 20 years. What point are you trying to make?

I loved this song when I was but a child,to watch this is akin to torture.
Please stop doing this and grow old gracefully.
Thank you.
Lol, milk it boys
These guys were a joke ! The worst was Peter Tork - He had zero talent.
Still faking it decades later.
Ahhaha pls stop.
