I just wanted to thank everyone for the kind comments. This was my first video ever on here. I am going to try and make some more as I do more repairs. As I watch this, I realize I keep calling the tail lights headlights...oops!
Like you said, after watching other videos that are waaay too long or people filming their face more than actually doing the repair, thank you. Very concise.
Thanks for the guide, it’s really clear and easy to follow, good work! You don’t need to pull that bit of trim back though, the boot liner stuff isn’t held in by the trim clips and it’s flexible enough to bend out and away without too much force. No messing with the rubber seal required either :)
Fantastic video thank you! Very helpful, and I especially liked the little pointers regarding water proof trim being in the correct place etc. Well thought out. Thank you!!
Thank you this was so helpful this tutorial caused the least amount of damage as some other guys just pry the fabric without popping that plastic part out so luck you I watched this
thanks for the video helped me to not break anything . turns out my bulbs were good but the connection was a bit rusted so cleaned contact points and all is good . where the lense meets the body looked like water could get in so i sealed it with silicone . cheers
Easy replacement. Thanks for the video. My indicator light on the dash is still indicating a light is out even after replacing the burnt bulbs. All lights seem to work fine. Do I need to reset code after replacement?
This is because the oil/dirt on our hands is then on the surface of the glass which will create a hot spot on the bulb, the heat won’t be even across the surface. Just Incase anyone wondering why :)
Thanks this was a great help! Not only for showing just how to get to the bulb and replacing the assembly, but also the detailing the weather seal. Think the last person who had the car missed this and the whole unit is wet from inside so I'll be replacing the whole thing 😣
Thank you. Do you think that if the VW engineers had another month, they might have made something a little easier? In all of my other cars, there was a clip off assembly behind the rear light cluster or you opened a tiny panel and had access to all of the bulbs. Anyway, I appreciate your video. I have a 2010 and I was completely stumped. This makes it all very clear! Good luck to you!
@@sgreene8614 Do you actually think that this was difficult? If it's easier than this, then you would lose your lamp in the first corner. And it's in the manual.
I figured out how to seat it easily after the fact...if you put the seal in the plastic piece that comes off and then install it, it's super easy and seals well. I will have to do a video the next time I change out lights.
Great video Thanks! And when you said Nomenclature I thought maybe he's military 🤔 then you said functions check, and I realized why this video was done so well! 🇺🇸

Thanks for the well done and informative video. German care are over engineered and difficult to work. If there is an easy way to design something, German car companies will find a way to make it more complicated. And expensive to repair.
That’s why Volkswagen’s last. As long as you fix it right especially engine and transmission parts. Toyota’s last just as long but most of the time you could use bubble gum and duct tape. Volkswagen just needs it done right

Suggestion for anyone doing this; the OEM weather strips suck on these tail lights so I would super glue it in so it stays properly sealed.
