Yeah I got the 759.00 dollar OEM from ECStuning. The left inner light sat flush no problem left outer slightly noticeably only if you run your hand and it barely scraps your hand. The right inner was difficult to get it flush ...but the right outer....muah spectacular no fuss
Got Ed's for pretty cheap used, and i must say they look pretty good. Maybe not as good as Hella's but i think they do the trick for the money. but fitment and install is pretty easy, took me less than 30 minutes all round, with some help from this vid ;) Cheers!

ik this an old video but are these tail lights legal here in the U.S i've read on some forums they are not because something about the the break light not being visible from the side

been too long ago, don't even remember. i may have got the dark red only cuz of my dark paint. but on white paint, cherry red is much better. and i chose no fog.

I just got my 2015 gti my 4th one now lol...and I still can not belive it dose not come with led tail lights!! god lord vw come on
Previous owner of My vehicle installed LEDs although it looks like the original housing. He also made them flash whenever stepping on the brake pedal which I’m not quite sure how he was able to as far as I know you can only activate the emergency flash which is when you hard press the brake. Anyways I can’t for the life of me get the “rare brake light” warning off my dash I’ve tried every code I could find but most of them seem to just cause other codes. Currently my Byte 18 is set to Hex 20. And only me left and right brake light have a warning on the dash.
coding is how it happens. prob be hard to find the original code.

The outside light on both sides looks to have more gap (on top) than the inside lights. I have the oem ones as well and don't have that gap. Hmmmm..
OK, I recently bought the DEPO LED's with fog, which mentions that in order to get the red fog light to work, you have to do some wiring/coding. If I choose not to do this, do you think the DEPO LED's will still be plug and play without throwing any codes?

every time i make a new video i think about showing it, but the lighting just hasnt been right. i gotta turn my car around and back it into the garage so i have natural light on the front end. plus its raining today. its way closer to the stock black plastic color than ever before, but its not magical.
FYI Do you know when or just before you get to 36000 miles on your car, that the first brake fluid oil change is under warranty? I just found that out. I read the warranty book that comes with the car.

I really hated getting those white plastic screws out on the outer lights was such a pain. They look amazing compared to stock! Mine came with big boxes to bypass the light out codes and I can't get the covers back on for the tailgate lights. With the vagcom can you bypass that box so it isn't needed?

you have to find someone with a "vagcom" cable. check your forums.
How tight did you screw down the white finger screws for the outer lamps? I just put my set on yesterday and am reading on the Mk6 forum that you can have water leakage into the light from overtightening.

Hey, I have a golf rabbit Volkswagen 2009 and I want to put the tail lights and the front lights from a 2014 golf gti. If I buy the tail lights would it fit on the back because I want to change it the original with the LED and do the same in the front.
depends what country you are in. you can only swap tails if the generation is the same for both cars. or they wont fit.

naw. i had 2 sets. the original best BKS tuning did not have any plastic. they were wrapped in soft foam cloth.

The coding you used, was that European coding? because i just did mine and the "rear fog light" is now on.... so if i use this coding will they work normal??
John, did you ever figure it out? I think because it's changed to RoW(rest of world) and not NAR(north america) is what causes the rear fog light out error.. because europe has a rear fog on the driver side but instead of the reverse light... if you put it in reverse you'd probably notice your drivers side reverse isnt on when your car is coded for RoW.
How you know what number to put there in byte 18 ?you changed 20 to 21 but how you knew it ? I need to change my centrer el module but i am full of unknowledge abt this coding. I've vw passat variant(365) b7 2011. Do you know the value for this car byte 18 system?

Thanks for the video mate, i could not do it without your video :) A friend helped me (he has vagcom) so we did everything like you did, except, the code wasn't 20 (it was 00 i think, maybe because car is not US model) and we've entered 21. There is no error anymore but i have one problem: DRLs are not working but when i switch on my short lights, one of DRLs is working and another don't. (Btw DRL should not be on with the short lights at the same time).
Any thoughts? I have no idea what other code to use, its' our first time doing this, sooo.... Thanks.

+Darijan Simunovic i doubt its right. even GTI's can have 5 different codes, let alone Golfs.. i have never researched Golf codes.. i had an "18" once also. but every car is different.

LastHumansGarage Haha awesome, will keep that in mind. Serious question though, how do you fine-tune the fitment for these OEM LEDs (I am picking mine up shortly)? Do they just have the screws in the back like replicas do? Great vid BTW, will be using it to install my new tails this weekend!
Nick Young there isnt much adjustment to make, they are only help in with the one white screw. (the outers). You just push it a hair whereever you need it and hope it stays as you tighten the screw. Same with the inners, you push them in the right direction to fill any spaces that are too wide, then tighten down the screws.

@lasthumansgarage, I have a 2013 gti with bixenons and led daytime running lights. I bought OEM led tails and someone tried to code them for me and changed byte 18 to rest of world to get rid of my bulb out error. Now my drivers side reverse light is always on no matter what gear I'm in, and my passenger side daytime running light isn't on anymore. Any idea what he did and how I can fix it? Does this gti in this video have led daytime running lights? If so it sounds like I need to change byte 18 to 21?
+Chris Peters every car needs a different code to get it working. some are 18, some 21, some 1F, etc. you need to check all the common codes and try each one.
+LastHumansGarage ok, hopefully it will be one of the common ones. I'm thinking that since my car is now coded as Rest of World instead of North American region, my control module thinks I have a euro headlight switch installed which I don't and that's why my daytime running light on passenger side isn't working and one of my reverse lights is acting as a rear fog. Don't you cross pins from one of the drl's and add a jumper wire when you install a euro switch? Maybe the lights behave this way if it's coded for a euro switch but there isn't one present.

Seif Kobrosly Yes I was, I used vagcom to change byte 18 to 21 I believe. I tried 55 and that didnt work but 21 got everything working and no bulb out error on the dash.
I have 2013 Autobhan and I tried 04 and after messing with the wire it turned on! But for some reason the right DRL stopped working again :(

don't think so. i mean, these are "oem euro" tails, so i guess maybe they don't need coding in europe cuz they already come with them?

Lorenz Velasco Some dealerships will code, but some don't want to touch it. You are better off finding an enthusiast with a vagcom cable, or just buy one yourself brand new. The cheapest one is $250. A dealer visit would probably cost you $120 anyway, so you might as well just buy a cable you can use forever. Watch my "vagcom showcase" video for all the stuff it can do.

I got some brand new inner led ones for $30. I'm just trying to find some outer ones now. But I don't think that $650 plus is reasonable. Maybe the quality won't be as great.
