As an Irish descendant, I can't in words express the pride I hold for my heritage, and the many hardships my ancestors faced to traverse across the pond, to find a better life, only to discover false promises, Typhius, and sparse, barren land. The Irish, they, just as we Southern Italians, always fought for social justice, keen of the world around them, natural song and dance artists. I like Ireland and everything Irish with the same passion as I like my Calabrese roots.

As a child we went to Pontins for our main summer holidays, dad would always sing this in the talent competition and most years would win. After he had a stroke and was finding his words again I played this to see if it would help.
I was at a Music gig last night and the Irish folk duo played this. It took me back to my childhood when my dad used to play this back in the day. Pure memory and Raw emotion for me. ♥️

I've always loved music, when I was in my early teens I listened to Nirvana, Metallica and the Dubliners. Then Black Sabbath and the Dubliners. Later in my teens I turned to Death and Black Metal, during that time my favorites were Mayhem, Marduk, Bathory, and The Dubliners. When I finally got over that I found early american blues, so I listened to Robert Johnson, Son House etc, and The Dubliners. Gradually that turned into old american folk, like the Carter Family, Roscoe Holcomb, Dock Boggs etc. During this time I also listened to the Dubliners. I also listened to old Country like early Johnny Cash, Roy Acuff and also the Dubliners. Now 38 years old with life long passion for music Ive found beauty and quality in almost every genre, from peruvian mountain folkmusic to russian Hardbass. Imho the original Dubliners was the greatest band to ever exist. I continuously keep finding new layers of quality and passion in their music. 5 people, each one in a million somehow got together. So grateful. Thank you
Appalachian music has lots of Irish / Scottish influence absolutely amazing, check out the Bafla brothers , creole from Louisiana, I’ve also been listening to a lot of sacred harp music lately . Your taste in music is very similar to mine, love all types of music, been listening to the Wu, Mongolian metal and Motown. You have good taste in music.

Never listened to mongolian metal though :) Will give it a go.
Haha Fantastic, I've loved many of the music genres/types you've mentioned here also and like you The Dubliners have always featured through all phases/discoveries but The Dubliners had a rare magic between the players that I've never experienced to the same extent since. U R another "bottom feeder."
my grandad sang this to me when I was a child just love this song LUKE KELLY WAS a legend absolutely amazing I'm 52 years old now and still love this song
brilliant absolutely fantastic what more can I say
I met Luke 54 years ago. We became the closest friends for a few weeks. Unfortunately he died in 1984. Very sad but gorgeous guy!!!!!
Oh, I landed in "Van DIemen's Land" as well as a 5-year old. Not as a prisoner, but as a migrant child. Thanks to my primary scholol teacher in Australia, I got to know Irish music and I've loved it ever since.
He had such an energy to his voice that is absent from most performers of our day.
I am a Kiwi from New Zealand but I thank god that I have Irish ancestry where music like this comes from such a place.
The Irish, they, just as we Southern Italians, always fought for social justice, keen of the world around them, natural song and dance artists. I like Ireland and everything Irish with the same passion as I like my Calabrese roots.
Mate we're more racist than your northerners
Fuckin social justice lol, what gave you that idea?
Oh yeah
Listen the retards in Dublin 4 don't represent the country
Ireland and the Irish are quickly fading into the shadow of multicultural oblivion. The Irish nation and culture has been betrayed by Communist Sinn Fein / IRA and will good down as a sad footnote in history.
MHR Bernards I’m irish
Viva Italia! Best wishes from Ireland hope you can come through the current pandemic.
@@fightintheshade sinn feinn will and never be in charge even though they were the peoples choice this election the other partys will always combine for coaltion to deny them only people we have been betrayed by is fianna fail and fianna gael
My mom’s fav song..she has dementia
But she always remembers this song..how heartbreaking to not remember your live but I’ll help her 🤷🏻♀️
Thats where I want to be always. I have modeled me life after a Irish Drinking songs cassette. It has done good for me all over the world.
A true legend he was .. A very special man.. Rest in peace Luke. You'll always be remembered!
Brilliant, can never be bettered, an English fan,r.i.p. to a very brave and talented man.
Luke will always be the heart of Irish music.
Such a passionate talent.
I don't believe in an afterlife as a rule but if there is such a place I want to jam with this man.
I love the people of Ireland.. :) Greetings from Denmark
when my husband was alive and lived Birmingham we always went to see the Dubliners brought back memiries my husband was burn Dublin I miss him every day when hear them
01.01.2019. Still listened in Serbia, wish I could visit Eire for Christmas but living in my country is like a handbrake for young people, limited in everything, but, in spite of that I still can wish Happy Nu Year to all Irishmen around the globe🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Happy New Year to you also my Serbian friend.
I'll gladly pay for your visit
@@DavidJones-ds8tm Money is not a problem, the problem are relationships that my country has with Western forces such as UK, France, Germany and other, so it's not so easy to visit any of these, especially UK and Ireland, where I need an UK visa😑
As a woman growing up in the rural west of Ireland I think it inspiring how our folk music can reach such corners of the world
@@patriciamcloughlin3028 in Serbia there is a relatively popular Celtic-Serbian group called Orthodox Celts that dedicated their entire lives to the Celtic culture and music. I am 24 and when I first heard the voices of Luke Kelly and Ronnie Drew, I could not stop to listen them, and yeah, your folk is very known in Eastern Europe
I'm crying for real
What a powerful voice 😳 absolutely brilliant 👏👏👏👏
I'm watching this in 2015!
I can never get enough of it...
Everytime I hear Luke,& the Dubliners singing they remind me of my Irish roots,& the Pride,& Passion l hold dear to my heart.
My brother was born on St Patrick's Day,& religiously every year we've celebrated his extra special day by immersing ourselves in everything Irish,& this year will be the same,a plethora of Irish music in the air along with plenty of Guinness at hand,
what more could a couple of Irish Rovers want!! 😉🍀☘️🎻🎵🎶🍻🍻
3:23 I laughed out loud at the chap cradling an armload of beers who looked genuinely aprehensive/anxious until Luke bellows out "my lads" and he craics a smile
I always laugh when I see this now! Thanks!
Actually he says "Mar dhea" which is Gaelic for "Yeah right!" or "as if"
@@williamwalsh3565 I’ll stick to my lad, what it sounds like to me

I truly wish I had been there to listen to this set and have a dozen pints with these guys. Well at least I have UA-cam and pints of sahti.
What a wonderful video.
@@13infbatt Thanks and great! I first heard Dewey Balfa (and Cajun music for that matter) in the movie Southern Comfort when I was a kid. The numbers in the end of that movie are still among my favorite Cajun recordings. Loved it ever since! Search for it here on YT if you havnt heard it!
Fair play Daniel Bergström hope they're still giving you as much as they continue to give me.
Ireland was rich with truth and beauty when we had this dear man.
airyfairycelt we still are 🇮🇪
