We're speeding down a backroad to some car boot sale, Luke kelly is blaring in my ear and the wind coming in the window is singing alongside him. No cares in the world. I feel very fortunate to be reminded of these great memories whenever I listen to these lads.

I'm an American, I was in the Army stationed in Germany in the 80's. I got to know some irish Workers from Sligo, visited their families too. Got to know the Irish, introduced to, "The Dubliners", I love this beautiful music and the people.

Nobody can keep up with Luke. It´s one of my most favourite songs. It´s haunting. Yes I think haunting is the appropriate word. It contains painful and wistfulness, but it´s not too depressed and mournful.

I'm 41,and from the Republic and I visited Derry 3 years ago, this song was in my brain during my trip, especially while I was walking along the old city walls. It made me feel sad. But also proud to identify so strongly with a town. I remember a lot of sad stories coming out of derry when I was a kid. I hope those times are gone.
Many times we have heard this song but none has sung this with the conviction and passion like Luke. He was a God send to the Irish cause at that moment in time.
