Lindy Fralin and Seymour Duncan Hum Canceling P90s
Sound Samples in the Opening Tune -I was using an old Silvertone and 66 Princeton in Stereo. mics used were SM57 and Beyerdynamic M160.
The other audio samples were made using a Friedman Runt 20 head into a Torpedo Captor.
4:55 for Short Side by Side audio samples
Look for a video on painting the Revstar Gold in my next video!
Literally love both. Very different!
Excellent.
Love the Floyd influence in the arrangements!
Great post - I think the SD sound more authentic but would buy the Fralins because they will stand up to heavy tones and not flub out. Its all taste. both sounds great.
Nice demo thanks
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Gareat comparison. IMO, there's a reason Fralin is regarded as the King of P90's. All a matter of taste, of course but the chime and definition of the Fralins make them a more attractive upgrade than the duncans which sound a lot like noisless versions of the Revstars' OEM PUPs to me.
I just ordered a pair of Fralins. Noiseless Neck and Noiseless Bridge 5% overwound. Putting them in a Warmoth Chambered Mahogany Tele Body with Padouk top. Love them in this clip.
Cool, That should sound great!
How did it go? I think the overwound would give them a little more life. What was the outcome?
@@gregsteffey1266 the 5% overwound bridge is awesome. I just had my guy swap the neck with a Fralin noiseless alnico rod P90. Should be brighter. You can hear a comparison on YouTune.
A very good comparison. It feels like the Fralins are somewhat brighter, but not by much. Which ones have stayed in the guitar?
Thanks! The Fralins were brighter to me too but I enjoyed the growl of the Duncan’s so they stayed in. Also it’s now routed for the Duncan’s.
@@gregsteffey1266 To replace those Duncans I wound my own set of 'standard' P90s. I did a before/after recording and apart from the noise they sound identical to the STKs. So Fralin must be doing something different with their specs to get that brightness.
@@hotglassbottles yeah I don’t know much about pickup construction but the Fralins look like two Strat Single coils side by side.
@@gregsteffey1266 The SD STK-1 are two coils, one on top of the other. The Fralin site implies they're side-by-side and have 4 output wires. That wouldn't really work with the STKs as the lower coil would be so far away from the strings.
@@hotglassbottles the Fralins I had were 2 wire and the neck was a C8.
wanna hear comparison with original YGD P90 pickup also :)
Me too! Lol. I jumped the gun and pulled them out before recording them. I just couldn’t handle the single coil hum. Maybe in the future when I have time on my hands.
me too, for the reason they're amazing.
Which seymour silencer pickups are they? Original, or the JJNp90? Not sure if they had the JJN 2 years ago.
It’s been a while since I did that. I will look into it and get back with you
They were STK P1B and P1N. They are tall so depending on the guitar routing may be required
@@gregsteffey1266 thanks. The height does worry me.
Just curious, which of the 2 pickups is the quietist ? Thanks.
Sorry for the delay. There wasn’t much difference that I can remember. Both are a lot quieter than regular single coil P90s
Did you have to do any routing to make either brand fit?
Yes the SD are a little Deeper. At that time I had someone else route it but I have since bought a router and have done a few guitar route jobs with it and would just do it myself next time.
Can I ask where you got the pickguard?
Yes Quickguards made it. I sent them a drawing of the original. He probably has a template now
standard output for the Fralins?
I believe so. It’s been a while all I see on my description when I sold them is C8 neck, so maybe that neck was a lower or specific wind?
