The year 1990 cannot be considered the era of the eighties.
I think South of Heaven is actually one of the most consistent albums Slayer ever released. No skips and no fillers for me.
South of Heaven is so great. Not my favorite Slayer record personally since I’m in the Seasons In The Abyss hype train, but I love the first 5 slayer records.
Some of the best Thrash ever made here: Rust in Peace, Arise, The Years of Decay, Extreme Aggression, ...And Justice for All, South of Heaven, and the cirminally underrated Mental Vortex and Time Does Not Heal. I even enjoy Souls of Black a lot.
Can't argue with the perfection picks. Arise and Extreme Aggression are my top 2 albums of all time. Love the lists. Thanks for doing them.
Extreme Aggression is my favorite Kreator album. I'll always remember the first time I saw the video for Betrayer. Blew me away. Arise is awesome as well. I slightly prefer Beneath The Remains but those are my top 2 Sepultura albums. That live show in Barcelona in 1991 is amazing.
Those 2 albums are awesome. Arise I was lukewarm on, but I really enjoy that album now.
“You’re not playing in that RAZOR band unless you include your little brother!”- “Fine, he can draw the cover.”- “okay then”.
Can't argue too much. I'd have South of Heaven on the perfection tier for the production alone. To me it's Slayer''s best sounding album from a production standpoint.
The guitar tone is HEAVY on that album
Impact is Imminent and Lights, Camera,... Revolution were landmark gateway albums along my journey into metal in high school - they will always be perfection to me.
I miss Rocky George in Suicidal Tendencies. I think he's in Cro-Mags these days which is another great band.
That quick "stop it" from Michael Jordan during the Sacred Reich segment genuinely made me laugh out loud.
This might be the only tier list out of these four where we don't have many major disagreements. Granted, I haven't heard all of these albums, but I'm still intrigued.
Mental vortex is one of my favorite albums, so underrated! Also Rust in Peace being perfection is unfair, it is the greatest metal album ever written :)))
I think you nailed the " Perfection" list. Rust is easily one of the best speed/thrash albums ever.
Souls of Black is a "technically good album", but ironically has the least soul of any Testament album.
State of Euphoria is one of my guilty pleasures, I get why people dont rate it, but I love it
and yep, love Mental Vortex
And......Justice........the last awesome Metallica album. An album I never listen to anymore because it does deserve a proper listen beginning to end. And it takes time
Great compilation. Good to see AJFA in Perfection. It is such a special album, but it is a pity that the bass is almost silent. It could have been even more rounded.
You can just listen to And Justice for Jason though if you want some bass
South of heaven goes into perfection for sure. Their second best album behind seasons....
Rust in Peace is such a perfect thrash album. I'm not a big Megadeth fan, but that album rips. Coroner is great, been revisiting their catalogue.
Agreed on both. Coroner's catalogue is awesome. Even Grin. That album is when experimenting goes right imo. Coroner are still active and if there's one band that I wish would put out a new album it's them.
@@SuperStrik9 I actually love Grin, I don’t get all the hate for it. I guess because it has a more ‘90s edge, but it holds up imo.
I need to revisit more coroner. They’re definitely amazing.
"Cracked Brain" is great! "Dimension Hatröss" is masterpiece of all time.
Ah yes, thrash metal 4th albums and for the most part there's the absolute best albums from legendary 80's thrash metal bands. There's some okay or bad albums, but for the most part a lot of these bands knocked it out of the park. Here's how I'd rank them:
S -- Megadeth - Rust in Peace, Overkill - The Years of Decay, Testament - Souls of Black, Sepultura - Arise, Voivod - Dimension Hatross, Slayer - South of Heaven
A -- Coroner - Mental Vortex, Kreator - Extreme Aggression, Suicidal Tendencies - Lights...Camera...Revolution, Destruction - Cracked Brain, D.R.I. - 4 of a Kind, Anthrax - State of Euphoria, Dark Angel - Time Does Not Heal, Sodom - Better Off Dead, Metallica - ...And Justice for All
B -- Exodus - Impact Is Imminent, Razor - Custom Killing, Sacred Reich - Heal, Tankard - The Meaning of Life, Nuclear Assault - Out of Order, Annihilator - King of the Kill, Death Angel - The Art of Dying, Artillery - B.A.C.K.
C -- Sadus - Elements of Anger, Flotsam and Jetsam - Cuatro
D -- Xentrix - Scourge
Nice ranking man
@@doomguyrox1156 Thanks man, 1988 was a great year for thrash metal.
@@mindful2864 yeah it was
Another great fourth album is Exumer The Raging tides. Their first two albums are cult classics, their big reunion album was alright but this is their second to last album so far and while the successor Hostile Defiance is also pretty great this one is their crowning achievement imho. One of the best Thrash albums of the last 10 years, don't sleep on it
Love Exhumer, sadly I don't think I've seen them included in any lists here. Better than a lot of the bands that are
The first one is so fun
I think this is the first of the 2nd, 3rd, etc series(i probably watched the debut one). I liked it this a lot. I've gotta go catch the ones I missed.
Always entertaining brutha!!
Coroner - Mental Vortex is Perfection tier.
Arise is a definite top 5 thrash album.
13:03 *insert the "You break my heart" scene from The Godfather here*
😄
I honestly love this album. As well as a few others you put toward the bottom lol. But the overall differences between all these 4th albums is overall interesting IMO.
And I also more or less agree about Destruction. Haha
Favorite 4 albums are south of Heaven, the art of dying, rust in piece, souls of black, extreme aggression and …and justice for all
My cd copy of Arise looks completely fucked but plays just fine. Took it to many piss ups at friends houses. Early teens metal and drinking. Good times!
Dang, sounds fun lol
Keep up the good work
Only point of contention is South of Heaven. I know it’s not their best, but I still think it should switch with …and justice and be on perfection (call it personal bias I guess)
It's tough because ...And Justice is not perfect all the way through, but the high points are so strong I think it carries it to perfection tier. South of Heaven is very consistent without too many highs or lows. Just a really well crafted album fro start to finish.
Nice list
Def agree with you on Cracked Brain, absolutely amazing album. Also personally as someone who loves melodic hooks I find South of Heaven is a lot more memorable than Reign In Blood, which aside from the first and last 2 songs always kinda flies past me no matter how many times I listen to it.
King of The Kill is pretty corny but I do have fun with it.
In my opinion Annihilator's best post Never Neverland album is Carnival Diablos.
I do find death angel album the art of dying Is one of their underrated albums actually and plus funny enough that album came out on May 4th 2004 before one day later I was born.
Again top Thrash list! Thanks man
Cracked Brain is very good, yes. Not better than the previous three but certainly underrated.
I agree with it being underrated too. I think Cracked Brain is one of Destruction’s best albums. It’s in my top 3. Love how the guitars sound on that album.
Check out a band called Dekapited . They're from Chile. Two of their albums can be found on UA-cam. They sound pure 80s thrash.
FINALLYYY
I cannot wait for the 5th installment (seriously if you wouldnt lost your mind with that) haha
So many fun ones, and imo, the last trhe era of "Thrash" as most bands switches up after that
Only one I disagree with is anthrax. Not their best but at least a good. But think it might be a nostalgic thing.
I came to see Rust in Peace at #1 and was happy to hear the shoutout for AWOL and Impact is Imminent on the Exodus. The rest of that record is mid, but those tracks kill.
Me personally I still love State of Euphoria . But for the most part I agree with most your rankings give or take a notch .
Souls of Black’s title track the biggest dud?! That song has the most personality out of them all imo
I know it's cliche but Rust in Peace is the best thrash album of all time, it just has everything without overstaying it's welcome anywhere
The music is great, but the lyrics are some of the worst ever written in the genre, which keeps me from considering it perfect.
Suicidal Tendencies at Okay is almost insulting for me, it has so much good moments
Soouth of heaven and seasons are my favorite slayer albums.
I could never get into anthrax but I always appreciated their David Lynch references. "Now it's dark" is lyrically great in this regard but it just doesn't do it for me sound wise.
South of Heaven is perfection... my favorite Slayer album
Agreed. Doesn't get any better than that imp 🤷♂️😈🤘💯🔥☠️🎸🖤
Solid rankings, no disagreement here. I think Rust is Peace is definitely a great album, but I hate Hanger 18. I have hated since the day it came out. I am probably the only one who does, but I am okay with that.
Actually, I agree with you like all of the albums the lead dueling guitars are great, but this song seems to be a bit lackluster and repetitive
That Xentrix rating is...generous. I love Xentrix, but that's their Cold Lake. If you don't like S.T., you don't like it. I personally joined the Army, but I got no vitriol for someone not liking something. Wonder if I get the same grace for my only big disagreement, which is ...And Justice being anything above the bottom of Meh. That is the album I checked out on.
Ahh, yes...my youth being rated. I mostly agree. I fucking hate Overkill though, always have. Avenged Sevenfold stole their skull. I have a soft spot for Nuclear Assault. I bought the Plague when it came out and loved it, also was excited about Something Wicked This Way Comes. But the reality is they were silly as shit with other stuff and ruined what they were about. This was a problem with that time period of music, everyone was afraid of being bullied for being "too serious." The bands that took off of course were serious AF. It was like superhero movies before Christopher Nolan. I cringe a lot at what I used to love in the mid to late 80's, and I cringe even more on how unaccepting I was to other bands that turned out to be so fucking cool. That's my story, thanks for reading it.
Blackfire did not played on Extreme Agression; his first album is Coma of Souls. Wikipedia says he did, but is totally wrong because he played only on the tour of that album. Quote: "I didn't play on “Extreme Aggression”, on “Coma of Souls” we were sharing riffs, I also took part on most melodies on that album.”
Awesome
Suicidal for life! Haha, I do love this album but I understand lol. I'll try out the Destruction album thanks!
Hope you enjoy Cracked Brain. It’s one of my favorites from them personally.
I hate the production of Testament Souls of Black. Sounds like an echo chamber...its terrible.
It's a solid record but yeah the production doesn't make it very listenable from start to finish for me
I like Testament’s songs but can’t listen a single album because of how bad their production is. All the pitfalls of 80s thrash. Too much reverb, 0 mids in the guitars. It’s like listening to thrash metal if it was blurry.
@@KLBoringBandI can agree somewhat. Their album The New Order has awful production.
@@KLBoringBand I like the classic production sound. I cant stand this modern sound today that bands use. Its just too dry and a wall of noise. Plus the music cant really back it up over the classics because everything is so recycled anymore. I don't know if its mostly a age thing as i'm more into that old 80's and 90's sound.
Bruh wut. Are you high? The production sounds great???
AJFA will always be my most favorite album!
Actually I love the crap out of king of the kill, state of euphoria lights camera revolution I actually found those albums were enjoyable and with Annihilator I'm honestly like Bryce talks metal where I all of their albums and Jeff Waters is a badass guitarist yeah his lyrics can be a bit cringe but I just love the music and I know the metal meltdown loves state of euphoria too.
Can you do the 5th album seasons in the abyss and persistent of time are my favorites
I wanna fight you over VOIVOD's position, but I love you too much, buddy.
11:33 Hahahahaha!! "Imagine Dragons is catchy, but f*ck that sh*t!" 😆😆😆
Dimension Hatröss > And Justice For All... imo
Slayer baby 🙏🏼💪🏼👌🏼🤘🏼
and cover of motorheads orgasmatron is awsomee🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I agree about suicidal. Most of the tubes I've heard from them..... I don't get why people call them thrash. Maybe I haven't heard the right stuff, but I just don't get it.
Annihilator. I haven't heard anything past the first one, but mostly cuz everyone says how bad it is. Are they really that bad? How would they have so many releases?
I love anthrax. But SoE has a couple tunes, then meh. Especially being between Among and Persistence. It's not on the same level.
I think Death Angel are great.
just commenting for engagement
fun fact to those who clicked read more, comments in Greek σχολια which is SCHOLIA like scholastic so I think maybe that means I am giving this scholastic engagement?
Anthrax State of Euphoria is great album. I like this funny, comics and infantil vibe 😁
king of the kill is good. lyrics kinda cheessy but still good
Could you rank Eluveitie albums?
YES MORE THRASH🤘
Wow
Death Angel is one of my favorite band but I would haven't been pissed if you put The Art of Dying at meh. The 8 highest ranked album are great but the rest is completely forgettable, I would not be so kind with their rankings...
Please can you do music hot Takes
I've grown to like Xentrix's Scourge
Fuckkkkk, wil you do a Devin Townsznd tier list? That would be very great
Funnily, thrash bands fourth album seems to be a lot better than most death metal bands third album 😅 Favourites are Megadeth, Coroner, Overkill, Kreator, Flotsam & Jetsam, Nuclear Assault, Suicidal Tendencies, Slayer, Metallica, DRI, Voivod and Testament.
Have you ever done an Anthrax tier ranking list?
When the new one comes out
HYPE HYPE HYPE
Either I know your style or I just watch your videos way to much cause I can't almost pick what teer your gonna put stuff in before you do it , I'm almost never wrong 😅
The fourth Anacrusis album 'Screams and Whispers' is fantastic.. 🤘 I feel that one needs a mention.. 🤗
Agreed. Amazing album.
@@Aces_Eights Criminally underrated band all together.. 👍
Long live the yarl! 😝
Suicidal's album is easily my favouritest on that list.
Putting Lights Camera Evolution in Okay and Cracked Brain in Fantastic is crazely blasfemic 😭
Also didn't liked the other album placements (except for the S and A tier ones, which definitely deserve this rating, except for Cracked Brain).
Cracked Brain I feel deserved it’s A tier. I think that album’s awesome and arguably Destruction’s best.
@@doomguyrox1156 tbh, it's not an bad album, but I don't think it stands out like Eternal Devastation.
Even with this I think Cracked Brain is still better than Release From Agony (the production mainly as RFA has an pretty meh production while this one has an very decent one).
@@Oqualquer I also like Eternal Devastation. I just feel Cracked Brain is more tighter than their previous material.
@@doomguyrox1156 that is an good argument, tbh Cracked Brain is an funny case for me as I say that it is not that much of an album, but when actually listening, I have an blast because surprisingly, this album has something peculiar that makes it very good to hear in the moment but then it feels strangely not that good when the thing is talking about it...
Idk, this album is an strange case, but if I would be honest, yep, it is very good of an album.
@@Oqualquer yessir. Cracked Brain is pretty sick. Eternal Devastation is also great too.
"I know some people would put South Of Heaven as their favorite Slayer album"
It's me. I'm some people.
Sooo.. We’re just going to ignore that this talking thumb ranked South of Heaven as as less than perfection?
I love Arise as much the next guy, but to say that South of Heaven wasn’t extremely important to thrash in general is crazy.
Arise is so good though.
Nah. Rust in Peace is fantastic
Mental Vortex is perfection.
Better vocals from Coroner
How The f*ck can you put Impact Is Imminent In okay, it’s their best Album with Pleasures
Agreeedddd
The title track and also opening track Impact is Imminent blows me away still to this day when the guitar riff starts before the drums and the rest of the band joins in. Definitely in my top three Exodus albums.
@@devildozeryeah, there’s no bad songs, solos, or even riffs and Pantera ripped off Within The Walls Of Chaos
There's no way Pleasures is above Bonded by Blood or Fabulous Disaster. Impact is good, but nowhere near their best.
The way I just did...
17:38 At least Anthrax have bass in their album😒
So does Imagine Dragons…
Dark angel should have been ranked higher. Thats their best album.
Their best? Naw. It's good, but I think it's their worst. Darkness Descends is probably my favorite.
"I wasn't gonna do it". Yes, you absolutely were. Gotta get that grifting money
Nah man, ya bro ain't no scammer
lol do you even know what "grifting" means, or is it just something you heard and thought made you sound cool? XD If you can explain how I'm grifting, I'll be very impressed.
@@MetalTrenches Technically it's someone who frauds somebody out of money. By making content with clickbait aspects to it, and outright lies in the opening, you are doing exactly this. Yes, that is absolutely grifting, even if not in the traditional meaning. You get YT-revenue through clickbait nonsense and cringe behaviour. Ergo, grifter.
@@ammanus356 you're talking out of your ".....anus356"
lol grifting implies that I am lying or tricking people about something. What am I lying about? What in the thumbnail is dishonest? And frankly, if you are OUTRAGED by something I've said, that means YOU are overly sensitive, which is hardly my problem. I don't make things up to piss people off... I just happen to be a person who like anyone else has his own opinion which may not always align with yours. I think the real lesson here is that you are an egocentric child whose brain isn't ready to handle anything outside of his own menial thoughts. For the record too, I genuinely was not going to make this video until people begged me to do it. Thus the LONG break between the 3rd albums video and this one. But by all means, be a narcissist that assumes they know everything and can mind-read people you don't know. And all the while BENEFITNG me with your engagement on the video. Get out of the house... form some real bonds. Build real relationships. Expand your horizons. Sitting around being pissy like this is a waste of your life.
"Extreme Aggression" is from 1989! And Blackfire wasn't on that album! Just sayin' 😉
I think if the production on Souls of Black was better it would be so much better, would be an all time classic
