Mel Brooks Misses Being Able to Call Gene Wilder
/ fallontonight
I love how Jimmy panicked when he saw Mel Brooks do the Hitler impersonation. His eyes went from 0 to 100 so fast, it was glorious.
2:51 brilliant
@@oddballsok I love that end of the world look in his eye, holy shit and he tries to be all cool about it right after haha
jimmy fallon is a hack. a D grade Adam Sandler
Yes! That was hilarious!! Jimmys face man lol. "No, no na na na na na no no."
3:21 grabs Jimmy and apologized... Class
Mel Brooks is the only human that could get me to watch Jimmy Fallon
Tigerwolf entertainment So true. NBC needs to have Brooks on every week if not EVERY NIGHT! I’ll take a Brooks’ podcast.
So true
A-fucking-men! most un-funny ass wipe on TV
You mean the guy that killed SNL? NEVER!
Yup Fallon's forced laugh is irritating. Also he is terrible at letting the guest finish what they have to say.
God give that man a 100 more years.
Poochyena Jones he needs it that another film one more film
@wes Always one asshole in the thread. He wasn't starting a debate about RELIGION! He was just applauding Mel Brooks! You should be ashamed of yourself for being so stupid. But if you were capable of self-awareness or self-reflection then you wouldn't be quite so stupid so.. it's a paradox :( I look forward to your moronic rebuttal
Poochyena Jones YES, Wow, he’s still funny and entertaining!
wes That’s your opinion!
Shit, I already gave them to Keith Richards.
Jimmy panicking when mel did the hitler impersonation destroyed me
Darknaut Hilarious! dear lord we need this man today.
Mel Brooks isn't dead
No, no, no, we don't do that! 😆
Susan Fagan he isint dead...
@Susan Fagan But Susan you definitely seemed like you are referring to the man who did the Hitler impersonation, Mel Brooks.
Mel Brooks is living proof that if you live your life with humour, kindness and generosity, you will live a long and cherished life.
He will be with us for a while yet!
(posted 6 years after this interview and he's still very much alive)
That's the way I live my life and trying to kill my debt slowly to avoid stress 😅🤣😂
so Robin Williams didn't do that I guess?
@@6666Imperator Robin wasn’t able to treat himself with kindness. Depression is a monster of its own.
Gene was taken too soon. It’s proof that no matter what you do you can leave this earth too soon.
97 years young and going! lol 😂 😂
he has an incredible amount of energy for being nearly 90 years old.. I'm impressed Mr. Brooks. Keep it up!
+SuperPunch76 Maybe. I hope I have that much energy at 70 let alone 90.
+SuperPunch76 if i live that far that is..
hopefully its enough for a couple more films ??
Yes, amazing mind and longevity
Imagine if he took that energy and made another movie?
He's 90?!?!?!?! HOLY FUCK. GOALS
Right...
I was thinking as young as 60s!
He probably bought a glass of water from the fountain of youth. He's rich.
Aging is so weird. Gene Wilder dies of Alzheimer's at 83 and Mel Brooks is jumping out of his seat at seven years older than him. Go figure.
Mel Brooks obviously won the genetic lottery. He's like a kid here.
You can hear his voice start to crack when he thinks about his friend being gone.
Very touching.
Chokes me up and had me thinking about lost friends and loved ones.
God bless you Mel.
Aannd he then gets immediately interrupted by this unfunny hack of a talk show host, doesnt even give enough time to let the audience finish their applause .
You don't tell Mel Brooks what he can and can't do, if he's gonna mock Hitler by God you let the man do it
It was dam funny too
Apparently he doesn't do it that much anymore, at least not at home. See his grandson loves it when he does those impersonations, makes him laugh. But one day his parents were watching a documentary on hitler and the kids saw it and shouted out 'Grandpa!' so they decided to cut them from his visits for a bit
agenttheater5 that didn’t happen 😂 the “kids” was my cousins
You don't tell Mel Brooks "No, no, no......we don't do that. "
Jimmy just has to be seen objecting politely to please the cancel zombies
I want to have coffee with this man and hear his stories for hours!
@AMT me three!
Yeah, you and about a hundred billion other people!!!
2:52 When a 90 year-old comic is edgier than you
that was so unexpected. that made me laugh so hard!!!
hahahaha Still taking the piss out of nazis......
You can't be afraid and be a comic funny has to be ready to shock and offend or their ain't no funny
Those were some fast moves for a 90 year old.
+Kuldeep Solanki that wasn't a comment on Mel Brooks's genius, but rather on the timidness of Jimmy - fake laugh- Fallon
Gene was so special to the world of film, and it seems that because he wasn't in the public light for 3 decades, that he was somewhat frozen in time by his look of the 70s-80s, whereas many other stars age over time via the public spotlight. He was a national treasure. There was no one like him, and his relationship with Brooks seems like something that brothers share. Legendary.
It may sound like a strange comparison but he was the Bruce Lee of comedy. We'll forever remember him as young and a master too.
Its for sure you are Jewish. Jews always overrate other Jews.
No his relationship with Richard Pryor was "Legendary" loved all of them in every movie, I was fortunate enough to meet Charles McGregor (Author of Up From The Walking Dead) also in the hand rail cart with the new sheriff that went into the quick sand. He (Charles) spoke at my elementary school when he visited our home!
Comic Trips blah blah label
He will never be forgotten, I am just a teenager yet I have still loved him since no was a child so that proves he can stick with anyone.
I love how you speaks directly to the audience and engages them. What a great guy.
oops! He, not you. (:
I knew what you meant...........It must be love.
***** Don Rickles comes to mind.
Lol. Engaging the audience used to be the normal thing to do.
Like the classic Johnny Carson interviews
Young Frankenstein is the most epic comedy ever made. A work of pure genius, and the world essentially owes that to Gene Wilder.
Mysteriously it's unavailable on itunes! Never understood how this can be...
I watched seven times in a row in nineteen seventy four
I think that the world owes both Mel and Gene a life debt.
Mel and Gene owe the studio a life debt for casting Cleavon Little in Blazing Saddles.
Richard Pryor was Brilliant, but would have been wrong for the role.
I love Mel Brooks. He's brought so much laughter to my life. Has he received a life time achievement award yet?
He has received the Kennedy Achievement Award in 2009. Here is the link

Mel Brooks is still sharp as a tack at 90. Amazing. Love his work. I must have watched Spaceballs hundreds of times when I was a little kid. And then Robin Hood Men in Tights. It wasn't until I was a teen that I found Blazing Saddles and the rest of his work and the rest is history.
You can honestly see the sadness when he remembers Gene as well.
He was one of the creative team on "Get Smart."
The Hitler moment was priceless! The host looked shocked then said, "no,. no, we don't do that"! Gotta love Mel Brooks! Sadly, most of the audience did not get it!
Fallon looked so uncomfortable. It was great. Telling Mr. Brooks that we don't do that.....I respect a man like Mel, for being able to poke fun at anything and anyone. Man is a comedic genius.
Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein! Sorry could not help myself
“The host” lol
If Mel Brooks, one of the most famous and accomplished and talented Jews of the 21st century can't make fun of Hitler, and somehow YOU are offended, there's something very wrong indeed.
If Mel Brooks listened anytime someone said "we don't do that" we wouldn't have some of the funniest movies.
I loved hearing Gene on Conan say he had to argue for 30 minutes with Mel Brooks to put in his suggested dance routine with the monster in Young Frankenstein. And then Mel admitted to him after, if you'll argue it for 30 minutes then that tells me it will work in the movie😂
That's such a beautiful interview. I go back to it from time to time. When he holds Conan's hand and says he's the happiest he's ever been. I tear up. Love that man.
"It's a nervous tick!"
Mel got the thumbs up for that!
97 now and still the same, giving an interview on stage at an actors guild. Jumping out of his seat to physically re enact, with a memory sharp as anything. The man is a machine
How can anyone dislike this video? God bless both Mel and Gene.
mel brooks, spaceballs, get smart, blazing saddles, absolute icon and great fellow!!
Don't forget 'Your Show of Shows', without which, there would be none of the above.
History of the World is one of my favorites
Because the inquisition's here and its here to stayyyyyyyyy!
Robin Hood Men in Tights!!!!
dji zzah SHOW THE MILLENNIALS “BLAZING SADDLES” AND DO A REACTION VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!
Gene Wilder will be sadly missed.
You said it!
Yep the definitive Willy Wonka is gone but not forgotten :'(
Stewart Damien true, and he never will be. 😔
still missing him
Good, yes. It hurts my heart I never got to meet him!
Mel can make all the Nazi jokes he wants. He was an advanced soldier in Germany personally defusing mines AND was in the Battle of the Bulge.
Amazing guy
And... They're f****** Nazis!!! They don't deserve consideration! At a very minimum they deserve to be made fun of. At a maximum they deserve to be shot. Nazis. He's making fun of actual Nazis who killed 6 million Jews. How nice that you give him permission to make fun of f****** Nazis! What the hell is wrong with this world that somebody thinks that the only people who can make fun of Nazis are people who fought against the Nazis in the war. Seriously anybody can make fun of Nazis with impunity anytime anywhere. No one should be concerned for the feelings of f****** Nazis.
@@jamespfitz He makes fun of nazis in a way that sjw woke nutcases get their panties in the uproar. In 70's, 80's and the 90' we used to know what's a joke and how to enjoy it.
@@stevem2323 he makes fun of Nazis in a way that get right wing Trumpists enraged..
He's so left I'm surprised he hasn't tipped over.
@@frankryan2505 Huh? What the f? Enrages who again? Lefties are the worst kind now, they are triggered by him.
The best Fallon interviewee possible: funny and he barely lets Jimmy talk.
I love how he's just playing with his hair and suddenly you see the spark in his eye. That electric moment where he thinks to him self...."I can pull a Hitler right now!"
Mel Brooks is 90. 90! How on Earth is he so active?
Having a lot of money does wonders
+Tee OB fuck off
TheLeaderman What a well adjusted person you must be.
same for Rickles and Jerry Lewis, or at least Rickles. All those shows.
Green Raver Music Genes
This is an old, old man here, but damned if his mind isn't still sharp as a tack.
you sound like anne of green gables
What a nice back handed compliment
The moment he remembers back meeting Gene! That split second he recalls ! Amazingness of the human mind.
That must've been a very important moment for him. Imagine what his films would've been like without Gene Wilder?
The smile when he remembered meeting Gene was just so happy! Made me smile too!
"Charlie... Don't forget what happened to the man who got everything he ever wanted.
He lived happily ever after."
There will never be a time like that. Gene Wilder, Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor.
I would say they were/are the woke.
@@bryanb3352 who asked he didn’t say anything about politics you did he just said they were very talented
One of the greatest comedic minds of all time. LOVE THIS MAN MEL BROOKS.
I love Mel Brooks. His hands go wild when he talks. 😄. He’s amazing and makes me laugh so hard. What a delightful man. ❤️
Mel brooks is a global treasure. I truly love that man.
He can tell a story and make the whole room laugh.A true Legend.
man when he did his hitler bit, it made me thought of Robin Williams.
I miss that legend so much.
Robin was a comic genius, but he couldn't carry Mel's jock.
Mel's a great guy, I'm sure he would have let him carry his jock.
Both Mel and Robin Williams would let the other carry their Oscar in their jock strap ? Ork to Hang on Sloopy
hahaha yes.
same here buddy. at first I couldn't see what he was doing until I got a clear shot of his appearance at the tail end of the bit. the simplest things can be hilarious.
Only he could pull off a hitler comb scene in today's society lol
Justin Li Was 💀💀💀
I laughed like it was the first time.
Justin Li exactly !!!! Hahahahahha
A god among men. Mel is too funny
Thanks for the spoiler alert, it keeps the joke so fresh and unexpected.
Gene wilder was like a part of my childhood!!! I still to this day watch Young “Frankenstein” and “Willy Wonka”! Gene, I miss you!! We all do!!🧡🧡🧡
Mel Brooks is a living remnant from an era when you could make fun of people and it was okay. He is awesome.
Your type always says this asinine crap but when people make fun of cis-hetero white dudes, you blokes flip the fuck out. Blow it out your arse, hypocrite.
@@JanetStarChild Maybe buy me a beer and get to know me for at least an hour before you start making assumptions on what "type" I am...
@@LordBaktor
Your first comment speaks volumes.
You're basically saying that you long for the time when the privileged can shit on the disenfranchised and it was okay.
Or maybe I'm completely misreading it, so feel free to explain yourself.
@@JanetStarChild I owe you no explanation dude, dudette or whatever you happen to be, but just to be nice, here it is: No. That's not what my first comment is implying. Explanation complete.
FunkYeah and your type think the world owes you a favour
Poor Mel, he has seen so many of his former friends/stars of his films pass before him. Gene Wilder, Harvey Korman, Marty Fieldmen, Ann Bancroft, John Candy, Richard Pryor, Sid Caesar, Clevon Little, Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn, Joan Rivers, Gregory Hines, Ron Carey, Howard Morris, Dick Van Patten, Jack Riley, and many others.
oh so true
But he got the joy of knowing them.
OMG. OMG. I don't know how he doesn't just cry all the time. this is the saddest comment ever.
LOL.. Yea Mel.. The goal in life is to outlive your little hitlers? I loved jack riley from Newhart but I guess he was on steve allen or something? Steve allen was amazing with zappa with bicycles because jews in space is fun? top that without bath salts..lol
That's crazy!
Mel Brooks is a treasure, one we must appreciate while he's still with us.
I'm a HUGE Mel Brooks fan, and all the work he and Gene did together was just friggin awesome! I've watched Blazing Saddles about 5 times since hearing about Gene's death :( I'll miss him so much!
There will never be another like Mel Brooks. I adore every time he’s interviewed.
I could listen to Mel telling stories for hours and hours, a comedy genius and expert story teller.
I was wondering that Jimmy even dared to fake laugh next to Mel Brooks.
this sentence.... is what made Gene Wilder died
+ItsMeCodiah and your reply made me died.
+Blury Order and your grammar made me die.
+JotaPe679 Look at the comment above mine.
Blury Order I guess i'm Captain Slow after all
I LOOOOVE when he brings on the greats. You CANNOT censor Mel Brooks!!
And yet Jimmy Fallon is a garbage show host. How he managed to get the great Mel Brooks on his show is mind blowing.
+Unguided Reaper money man
What is wrong with you people? This interview was fine - I don't understand where all this hatred is coming from.
MrTellitToYa People already hate Jimmy Fallon cause he's the fakest person
We all know what the internet thinks of Jimmy & his fake laugh & interruptions. But does it have to end up in EVERY post? I didn't even comment on those things.
Mel Brooks and his late wife Anne Bancroft were such an inspiring couple. I hope in my life to have one moment of love like they shared. Just re-watched the whole 8 seasons of Curb your Enthusiasm, season 4 remains one of my fav - mainly due to the Mel, the finale of that season was epic with Anne + Him.
to be or not to be was a film with brooks and his late wife..brooks seems to like to impersonate the hitl alot
President Skroob!! Hail Skroob!!!!
THE SHWARTS
I can see your Schwarz is as big as mine.
My ass is backwards
My Grandfather is like that still after 20 years of having lost his best friend! Misses him dearly...
My dad had a best friend who he met when he was 5. They graduated together, did the Marine Corps together, married close friends, had sons only months apart, just everything. They were ALWAYS there for each other, period. His friend died of a sudden heart attack 15 years ago. I'd never seen my big, strong Marine dad so broken hearted, and it was brutal. By the grace of God, my daughter was born weeks later. She was over 2 months premature, she needed so much love and support, and my dad was so there for her, coming to just hold her and helping with her big brother so I could be at the hospital. She helped him in one of his darkest hours, just as he helped her. I know it was incredibly painful to lose a friend like that, but how lucky he is to have had one so faithful. Not many can say that, and I think it tells so much about who they both were, men to admire.
Mel Brooks...my dad love his movie and I learn how to love too...
Holy crap that man is a treasure! 😂
Mel is one of the greatest gifts to this Earth
I miss Gene Wilder everyday. His comedic genius was second to none and I think of him many times a day when something amusing occurs that reminds me of him. Greatly missed.
When you realize you've outlived the many stars of your movie: Madeline Kahn, Peter Boyle, Dom DeLuise, Kenneth Mars, Gene Wilder, your own wife :'(
And now his best friend Carl Reiner. They knew each other 70 years!
Cloris Leachman recently. 😞
Let's not forget Marty Feldman.
An intrinsic part of my life, both you and Gene. Thanks for existing
I LOVE Mel Brooks!! I miss Gene Wilder - so glad we have such amazing films they gave us.
R.I.P :(

Great show, but I prefer Ball Fondlers.
Frau Blucher told me that it was Amazing that little kids think adding the word f=ck makes them witty?
Bear witness to a man who has achieved immortality in his own lifetime.
Just watch the 'Gene Wilder on Late Night' in your recommended list instead. If you want heartfelt sincerity and respect for Wilder, Conan's your man.
Christ, Jimmy Fallon is excruciating to watch.
Just came here from there
I wanna mention the one man that saved Mel Brooks's and Gene Wilder's career: Peter Seller. This man accidentally watched one of their movies. The Producers just came out and it only opened in a couple cities. It looked like a dud and studio seemed to let fade from existence.
Peter Seller started a movie club around this time and watched movies with friends. The movie they were suppose to watch was missing and the only film they had was the Producers. Sellers watched the film and absolutely loved it, he then took out two front cover ads in the two biggest newspapers in the States and praised it. It soon got a release nationwide and went to win an academy award.
Thank you for the Backstory. :)
Peter Sellers. Another comedic legend. Simply amazing. I don't think j can come the right word/s to describe him. Love him always. And Gene. And Mel.
Peter Seller not as funny as Gene Wilder or Richard Pryor. Not in a million years.
baberina1 All three - amazing comic ability.
@@johnguichard8498 You obviously haven't seen the pink panther

That's when it hits. When you want to just call your friend, and he's not there.
Mel Brooks watched David Lynch's "Eraserhead" and immediately hired him to direct "The Elephant Man". Mel's a very smart man.
"See no evil hear no evil" Wilder and Pryor at their best!
Stir Crazy was better
I agree... Stir Crazy was better. They were both great films, though :)
Silver Streak was the best film Wilder and Pryor made together.
"I suppose a fuck is out of the question." 😂😂😂 I love that movie.
What are you blind? YES ...what are you deaf? YES...
I love Mel Brooks so much. I will genuinely cry when he goes.
I sincerely love everything Mel Brooks ever touched. A true gentleman & genius.😀
that's the way to be 90+
"My late wife Anne Bancroft". THAT is how a legend rolls.
Jimmy Fallon is such a lightweight. It's his tv show, yet the celebrities, mostly the old guard, run the show. Just look at this interview and the one with Don Rickles. The whole show had nothing to do with Fallon, and Rickles spent most of the time taking shots at Jimmy's nervous breakdown. Watch some of Johnny Carson's interviews, they felt engaging and genuine.
+Ree Tom shut the fuck up loser. don't talk shit about the legend. im sick of uncultured swine like you breathing my air, spoiling it for me and everyone else who isn't mediocre like you. its your fault society these days is so fucking fake and boring and weird and lame. nobody has talent anymore and they wont need it thanks to people like you. go fuck yourself.
So we should just forget and ignore talented legends because its not hip or current enough for you? Go spend your time watching shit like kardashians then. They're what the "celebrity" is nowadays thanks to naive, ignorant, morons like you.
It's Johnny Carson but who's counting
Fallon doesn't feel the need to compete w/ his guests like other hosts, if the guests can handle themselves, he's happy to sit back and just enjoy his guests w/ the audience. He's also very concerned about everybody having a good time at the show, including his guests, so his brand of comedy is good natured, he doesn't take jabs at ppl...only at ppl he's friendly with and/or he's sure they can take it & enjoy it (eg. Timberlake, Blake Shelton, Colin Quinn). He actually took a jab at Rickles during their last interview & he winked at him to make sure he was ok.
good said!
We definitely need more like him love his humour
My heart still hurts over the death of Gene Wilder. I own most of his movies, but I haven't been able to watch them without crying.
Knowing that Mel Brooks is still here with us makes this world feel a lot less shitty... And that classic Hitler tick!! I swear only he could get away with that in this day and age.
Mel Brooks is the best director and actor. I liked his parody films

God bless u mel Brooks still funny through all these years :-)
2:33 when you hear Jimmy laugh as Mel is being heart felt, you know how insincere he truly is. We deserve better to interview these iconic personalities.
Jimmy Fallon is lame, laughs at inappropriate times, and is always interrupting his guests; very annoying. Johnny Carson was the best; Jimmy just doesn’t come close to being in the same league as Johnny Carson.
I just watched a great interview between Conan & Gene Wilder. What a difference! Jimmy seems like he wants Mel to hurry up so he can move to his next guest.
Yeah, that moment needed a good few seconds after, not immediately onto the next question.
so Mel where is History of the World part 2
Da Money
He wants to be able to film the Jews actually in space, so he's just waiting for the technology to come about.
He's said he'd love to do it, but no one has ever ponied up the cash.

Gene Wilder is one of the most beautiful, wonderful, amazing and talented people ever to Grace this planet. The sun shines a little less bright without him here.
I’m actually listening to the “making of Young Frankenstein” audio book right now.
Its hard watching someone struggle to fill there own lungs like this

Nah don't think like that. He's 90 and definitely just as aware of it as we are. I like to imagine he'd say something like "I'm old, what the hell do you expect?!" if someone mentioned it to him.
I don't know for fact, but it sounds like it's from a bunch of smoking in the past, which isn't shocking it was much more popular then
Mel Brooks is a man of great care and class. 🐾
