- In this video, my wife and I, along with many friends, build an incredible timber frame barn workshop. We start the process with felling trees, milling our own lumber, carving the structure and many other tasks. The entire project took 3 years to finish.

this is a dope build and dont care what anyone says, music is energy and this build was just that.
First 45 seconds is the best bit of editing I’ve seen in god knows how long
Just wow , great job!
It takes a lot of gumption, determination, and grit to keep working once the sun goes down. My hat is off to you. Job well done. PS I have a Woodland Mills also. 👍
I would like to applaud you for this massive achievement. It is on such a grand scale the likes of which I could only dream of for myself. I absolutely love the fact that you have shared it with us. You should be so very proud of the fact that your hard work has rewarded you with this beautiful structure. I hope you enjoy it for the rest of your days. God Bless you and yours.
Thank you so much for the kind words
Your energy, team work, can do attitude and skill are most appreciated. It brought back memories when my friends, wife and I built a barn. You gave me some good ideas if I ever build another barn. Thank you for sharing this with us.
That was so entertaining a job well done.Glad you had some background music love it.
Wow. That is incredibly impressive build and absolutely beautiful. You’ll have a wonderful story and building to pass on to your grandchildren
I have watched this over 20x. you made it look so easy. I have to take more classes. hopefully one day in the near future I will attain your skillset. thanks for sharing the process. this is motivation
OUTSTANDING!!! Nicely done y'all!!!!
freaking amazing!! Gorgeous barn! Congrats on a beautiful build!!
First off.. beautiful craftsmanship.
Everything about this build is amazing other than the plumbing, specifically regardong the water distribution system being under slab.
As a plumber, routing water lines under concrete, equals money.
You going to have settling that occurs. If anyone lives were seismic actions are frequent and or freezing.. dont do this. Again this equals money, not today, not tomorrow but tomorrow is never promised in my book.
Again, beautiful craftsmanship, having built many cabin on my property, perfection is key.
Keep building and keep the dream alive.
S/F
Thanks for the tip. BTW, I still have not hooked those pipes up to anything.
Great work ethic. Nice result. Gorgeous Barn.
Nice build. Looking forward to the Bearhawk build. I’m leaning towards the Zenith Super Duty but the Bearhawk is on the short list.
Great Job! Hard work & dedication.
Wow!
Dreams do come true!
Very nice work
WOW! SO COOL.
Lots of work! Going through the same process here at the Cay. Cheers!
Great Job guys!!Amazing
What an awesome project! Appreciate you taking the time to document it and share it with us. Look forward to seeing your BH.
Thanks Colby!
pretty dope barn build, even with milling your own lumber it still doesn't look like it was cheap in any way. love the monitor style barn though and i'm sure you guys are stoked to have it!
We sure are!
Magnificent, spectacular, glorious, majestic, awe-inspiring, breathtaking... Words don't do justice. I'll be moving on to around 100 acres of timberland in a few months, but I'm probably a decade away from a structure like that. Are congratulations in order? Absolutely amazing .
Thank you!!
Great story in this...patience and perseverance pay off...and as far as the music?
I kinda like it!
Great vid and superb dedication and work
Appreciate you...
Nice job, from a retired Timber Framer!
Beautiful build! I have to cut down 15-20 mature hickory for a house build on my new property and would like to use to build something like this after the house is done.
extremely well cutted trees and video!
You must be in Maine, I recognize the Hammond Lumber house wrap. Beautiful job.
You have alot of friends. thtas great.
Swedish house Mafia great song , great video, great job 🇧🇷
Very nice!
Now that is a song I have not heard in many years.
Beautiful
Very Nice video and project.
NIce work. Looks awesome.
Came back to watch the video again, start to finish. I've built two timber frame buildings. Mine were tiny, by comparison, so I can appreciate what a monumental effort this was. Did you actually build that without buying a chain mortiser? That's pure heroism. The music timing with the doors at the finale had me applauding the entire project, editing included.
I did build the whole thing without a chain mortiser. I got sticker shock when I checked them out.
@@barnbuiltbearhawk7267 they are shockingly expensive... apparently I was lazier than I was poor.
👍👍👍
How monumental!
very impressive!
Awesome looks like a barn and a Church. But its still a house
Amazing perseverance- Bravo Zulu
Paused to subscribe just because this channel deserves to make it to monetization. Nice video... and nice barn!
OK I will subscribe. If can build a barn. You have no trouble with a BH. Best Regards Cool seat pans !
Amazing...
Awesome project. Well made.
I do have to wonder though, is the techno trance rave barn building scene really all that big? I can’t imagine people who enjoy one enjoy the other…
Lots of work
Your wives are cooler than mine
Looks like you had more help in the beginning?! 😊😊
I agree this music is very distracting. Try just the sounds of environment ,barn looks good
Красота 👍
Beautiful barn, love the timbers used, however, one thing I wouldnt have done is the vertical planks on the outside walls, to much moisture can get under them and cause rot, doing the Japanese Yakisugi timber burning technique would be good for the outside in the weather timbers. JMO
Agreed. Burned some at the beginning. Took too long. Will likely regret it when I have to replace them.
After being around so much new construction, i want nothing to do with 2x4s in my walls. I crave timbers and beams
Impressive have to build a family, before you can build a project like that...
Yep try and replicate this video..hahaha..be my guest..
Hahaha... a beautifully accomplished project..is completely worthless unless you have some one to share it with..
Those are my thoughts.
Oh..and sir.much respect for the path your walking..
That tractor paid for itself
And then some!!!! 1968 Ford, just keeps working.
Great iron stairs ! Would love to know the dimensions and materials! I see you custom welded it but would like more details! Thx.
If you build it, HE will come
Making the spiral staircase is as impressive as the barn itself! Did you design them yourself as well?
I did. It was a lot of fun. And way cheaper than buying pre made. The hand rail is plastic well line from HD screwed in. It worked out great
What a wonderful job!
Im looking to build a home just like this.
Is it possible you have plans you can share?
I did the design and model on the computer and never made plans from it.
Excellent work, which state is this located?
Great build and Great Editing! I have a monitor style pole barn, my lean to’s are also rafters, did I see that you just used fiberglass rolls to insulate? What kind of airspace did this allow. I have probably thought to much about this
I used batt insulation in the roof. I've got at least 2" clearance for the roof to breath. Thank you for the compliment!
Pretty nice shack. Did you get all the lumber from your property? What size are the posts? Did you make the brackets for the posts? Only problem is you won't be able to get the plane out with the wings attached!
So true! I actually designed the barn around building a Glasair Sportsman 2+2. The wings can fold in and out in the barn with some manipulation. Though the price of those went through the roof. Ultimately the Bearhawk is a much better airplane for half the price!
All lumber came from my lot and posts are 8x8 16 feet long and 6x6 for the awning roofs.
@@barnbuiltbearhawk7267 A fellow here built a Glastar, I gave him a little flight instruction in it, not too impressed. He sold it to a local fisherman who put a different prop on and performs much better now. He then went and bought a Sportsman 2+2.
If I were going to build a personal use airplane it would be a BearHawk.
I have a bunch of 10 X 10 16' and some 6 X 12 20" to build a warehouse, but it's just going to be post and beam not timber frame. Getting too old to manhandle those timbers anymore.
Nice build. What is the length of the corner posts? Thanks for sharing!
The large 8x8 posts for the main roof are 16 feet tall. The small 6x6 awning roof posts are 7 ft tall
this is a dream for me. I want to build a shop much like this once I buy my next property. Just don't want to wait the long haul to finish it as i don't have all the friends and family to finish it. It would literally be a 1 man build and i work slow as molasses. What was the shop size. Bout 30x30? I'm guessing? I wanna go pretty big probably 36x50 min (prob 40x60) on my next shop. as i have been doing a lot of fab work. so i need room to setup all my wood working machines and CNC and then setup a small metal shop w/ a plasma table. Think I'd put office & a spray room in 2nd floor loft area. 8-)
Its 32×32. I wouldn't go smaller and literally used every single peice of every pine on my property so couldn't have gone bigger either.
@@barnbuiltbearhawk7267 bout how many trees do you reckon you used?
About 80-90 trees. That includes structure, floor boards, wall/ceiling shiplap and board & batten siding. I used every inch of tree that I could.
Anyway you could share your plans? My wife and I want to build this for our Homestead.
awesome! are you a builder by trade? interesting technique that's for sure. where is this?
It's in Maine. I'm no builder...
Did you mill all
Your lumber and if so how long did you wait for the stuff to dry before you started using it
I did mill it all. Some of my wood was alive on a Monday, cut down on Tuesday, Milled on Wednesday and installed on Thursday. So, same week. All the structural wood sat for about a year. I have had no problems so far working with the wet wood.
This is going to be one of those barns that lasts 300 years.
Heck yeah it is!!!
What's the boom pole setup on the front of the tractor to help with the frame raising?
I designed that in solidworks to hold the capacity I needed for the barn build at 1.5 safety factor. It's a 1/4" x 2" x 4" tube welded to a skid steer quick attach plate. The far padeye can support 300 lbs. The mid one can hold 1000lbs
Why did you set the header on the flanking lean-to’s so low? I want to build something similar but 8’ ceiling on the flankers and 10-12’ on the center, am I not taking something into account?
It suits me just fine. My liftedtruck fits under them so its good for me. I suppose I could have gone higher but no need. Center is 12. Fits my tractor with backhoe in stowed position. If you don't like the lean-to low ceilings then maybe pick a different design.
Where did you get the plans for this timber frame? I would like to build this on my land in the Ozarks.
I designed it myself. If you would like to purchase the plans let me know and I could put a set together for you. It would be for the structural framework only. Joinery, etc.
Wow , i would like to get a set of plans also. That would make a great hunting cabin. Thanks Dan
👌👍👏👏👏👏👏👏❤
Did you mill these trees green or let them dry for a while first?
Some sat for a year. Others went from live tree to installed timber in a day
Would you share the plans to me? I have a woodlands mill and want to build this same barn?
What size and how tall are those 1st posts (all main posts) you stood up?
Those are 8'×8' x 16'-3" long. 16'-3" was the max my mill could do.
hi there nice john
I see you used most or all of your own wood. What was the final cost? If you look to purchase a kit or have one built it's 200k without the foundation.
Take off a zero. That was my final cost with the foundation included. A lot of work to mill your own wood and make my own stairs, hinges, brackets etc. But so worth it! All my trees were free.
@@barnbuiltbearhawk7267 I love it
doing almost the same with a&d adventures with timber mountain
I checked out your work. Super impressive!!
@@barnbuiltbearhawk7267 Thank you
your tractor has a hydraulic leak
It has a lot more than just one!
Nice barn but the wrong music for such a video, I’m thinking slow folk music
There is a flaw in your design, a floor beam should always sit on top of a support beam for maximum strength. When you cut into a support beam and put the floor beam into the hole you weaken both.
The load calcs on the beams were completed using smaller dimensions. E.g. beam is 8x12 with one inch notches on either side. Load calcs were for a 6x12 beam. All is good! Thanks for the comment and good catch!
Where can I get the plans?
I did the designs myself. I never made plans hust worked off a model in solidworks.
Can you give a project?
What species of trees did you use?
All new England pine. Some spruce was used for the braces.
Oh man if that tree doesn't hit he has such good accu.......... Nvm

IOWA DAD JOKE of the day
[Q] when does a JOKE, become a DAD JOKE?
[A] when it becomes, APPARENT
Most obnoxious background noise. Turned sound off.
Great build looks great. Your choice of music is horrible. I would love to finish watching this video, but I can’t handle this music.
Kill the music takes away from the magnificent building
It’s better muted.
Dude your music is distracting. I can't watch.
Turn it off … same as NFL ‘analysts’
Have to agree however, I did turn the sound off and watch but it is far less immersive and enjoyable. With that being said.. Beautiful work by all! love the barn and the way it was put together!
Yeah,I had to turn the volume completely off.annoying as $#@%
Turn it down
Dude your comment is so unnecessary, I can’t not reply. what’s next, you don’t like the time-lapse style either 😂
To much noise.
My ears are bleeding
SOUND OFF
The worst music, I can't watch this
Nice content, but really annoying music.
Might have been an interesting video, but I couldn't tolerate your background noise.
Bloody annoying 'music'. Couldn't watch it after 2 minutes of it. Sorry. Good luck though, the finished barn looks cool judging by the thumbnail.
Worst music ever. Peace out
Migraine inducing video. Compensating for bad content with horrible music. I think not. Content is rather good. Just bad taste I guess.
Wow
the music is a bit much . . but beyond that pretty cool
