Agreed. Love the way that looks. It's notable (and impressive) that you took design ideas from the Howard early on in the process. I've always enjoyed working with craftsmen who take such pride in their quality work. Inspiring. Good on you! 😃
What you have accomplished in the past few years, especially without training in the crafts you master so artfully, is astounding. You are definitely leaving a legacy behind. One day, when you have children, they can say that their Dad built the Family Farm from the ground up.
Thanks for posting and sharing. On video this barn raising is so interesting and suspenseful, I can’t imagine what it is like to actually be there and doing the work.
I'm so glad that you decided to build your barn this way. It's a much better way to work than being completely stressed out with building and working to strict timelines 👍
Yes the lack of stress was noticed all the way through. Having a plan helps along with a method and risk assessment, plus the right Tools and experience in using them. Craftsmen make it all seem so easy.
What a man you are! I sit back and look at my patio when I’ve pressure washed it and think I deserve a bear! Meanwhile a real man builds a barn by hand and makes it look easy! You are a very talented and inspirational man! Just thank you for making me want to do more
So much more exciting for us viewers to marvel at you raising your barn in one month with only the help of Sam and Ben, assisted by a 'Roman catapult' contraption, than watching a giant, boring, diesel-operated forklift and a team of twelve guys doing all the work in three days! And obviously way less stress and way more pleasure for you too 👏
What's great about this build is, apart from Kris using a Land Rover as anchorage and a few other bits of modern kit, this is exactly how a timber barn would have been built in centuries past - real testament to going back to the old ways, doing it properly and making a really good job of it, and the best think of all, the average age of the participants is probably around 30. I hope these skills get passed on for many more generations.
This episode of the barn build really showcased your editing skills, the value of a drone for filming and the skill of the drone pilot, Dot, with her impeccable shot selections. I particularly appreciated the filming of the third section because it focused on the intricacies of pushing the pieces into place with ratchet straps and pounding. Really marvelous to watch!
Hi well I must say your looking much happier, not a bit of stress I'm glad to say and I'm looking forward to seeing your lovely barn all finished, it's the way to go, lots of hardwork but worth it. :)
That, right there is sterling work. Just goes to show those boys that helped you craft all that in that cow shed knew what they’re doing. Great advert for their abilities
I waited with a great degree of anticipation for the build to start and was not disappointed. I think that the crew who did the initial framework should be congratulated for their accuracy as I am sure the assembly is being made easier due to their professionalism. You are lucky to have good friends offering to help you put up the framework.
All the years i have in construction; Timber, steel.... I hold my breath each time I watch DIY rigging .... You have to think, "you're already in deep financially" and have previously rent equipment. renting a tele-handler or Sky-track... can make it that much easier and safer .. for your next project at least consider "choking". You know your finished materials.. all you need to learn is deflection and you could swing those wall in a few mins. with the right equipment... Kris, I am completely impressed with your design and the wood works. I have witnessed near misses and the aftermath of rigging gone wrong.. Thank God no one was k*lled. I have even suffered the same set backs from weather, and poor quality materials.
very well done Kris & helpers, i must say Getting the balance better evry shot. i debt when the next bit goes up it will be a Beatty it will be intertying to see how you get the sky hook up for the top Trusses. Don't forgot to top out when you get there son . good show son .
Kris Harbour I am so excited and happy for you seeing this particular part of the Barn build starting truly impressed with the level of ingenuity that you have shown you have shared with the viewers ever since you began making UA-cam videos congratulations 👏 very proud of you for taking on the extra help.
Watching this build particularly makes me think of our predecessors, and how they would have achieved similar buildings without the benefit of modern tools. Yet again I hadn't thought about the mammoth task of lifting - I suppose it would have (for the larger structures at least) needed horses/oxen and many hands, not to mention strong ropes and pulleys. It lends a whole new dimension to the wonder of old barns, churches, cathedrals, even back to the lifting of say Stonehenge, still a mystery to this day.
That lifting gear is so simple but so clever, you can see now how our forebares built stuff. Obviously they didn't have Defenders or Tractors, they would have used loads of manpower instead. Bet your really getting excited, now as you can see that the end is in sight. 👍🤗
As others have mentioned, I applaud your decision to work slowly and by hand. Your contraption, your volunteers / apprentices, and commitment to teaching by doing makes me happy.
Once again, Friday evening prime viewing. I'm really enjoying this barn series, and like everyone else here, I cannot wait for the end result. I was so impressed with the greenhouse build, but ths is just another level. You have every right to be proud of yourself, not only are the skills you teach yourself incedible, you make a great video to show them off.
As ever it’s already looking better than I’d expected. Your projects really do have a quality look. The time and effort is nearly always worth while. Just enjoy taking your time and watching it emerge. And be proud 😊
Incredible Kris, part one up and looks stunning already. You, Dot and the gang have done a super job. Can’t wait for the next part. Thanks for showing/sharing your skills. Stay well all.
Wow! simply amazed how everything is coming together nicely after all the hard work. What a talented group of friends you have working with you Chris . Well done, looking forward to the next installment of the build .
Much more enjoyable to concentrate on doing the job rather than on a deadline, and generally the job gets done faster, safer and to a higher standard 👍🏻 Good luck 🍀
I am so excited that you are finally getting the barn assembled. So much hard work going into this masterpiece! I am going to love watching every step of the journey. Absolutely love your building style. Great work to all of you.
Some awesome engineering Kris, so glad you took the reins on the rest of this build. Your visions, and persistence to achieve them is infectious. So glad you share these projects on UA-cam. Thanks for the great content buddy, look forward to watching you complete this cathedral! 😂
Amazing work Kris & Team! You remind me of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who not only built the technology, he built the technology to build the technology!
Hornblower would be proud! Seriously, the Royal Navy during the time of Sail knew how to move timber masts and spars around better than anyone before or since.
On a traditional rafter ye'd call it a bird's mouth, or bird's beak. A natural reference that pleases me. That is quite a lifting contraption. Getting it done! 👍 Hats off (briefly, before replacing against sun and rain 😜). Aye, not much fun working in the rain but it is a much needed blessing. All the best. Oh, and tell that worthy young'un, "bevel edge down" 😄
There is nothing quite like turning on my computer in the morning and finding out that your next video is ready to view. I know whatever you are doing that it's going to be interesting and informative and it's good to see the smile on your face doing the erection using a small team and less reliance on other peoples plant and equipment. Little and often and you will get there and enjoying the process is priceless. Keep up the great work and thank you for filming and taking us along for the ride.
Nice to see your barn puzzle coming together! Pretty awesome how you did your Derrick on the tractor! Pretty ingenious! Thanks Kris, waiting on pins and needles for the next episode of your build!
Youv'e come thousands of kilometers and hundreds of years, so to speak since knocking the home together...An example of sweat and inspiration! Took quite a trip and never left the farm...
Great work Kris, I could watch hours of this at a time with no problem, you should consider doing an uncut version of most of your stuff, you may think it'd be boring but I'm sure I'm not the only one who really likes you, Dot and the lads and the way you do stuff.
I have worked for myself all my life and now that I am retired (65 years) I find myself thinking of the things I have done. I am most proud of the way I treated the men I worked with. Always with compassion and respect in the way I talked to them and always had food and hot coffee ready for the men when they needed it for free. I found that they always were happy to come to work and gave there best to me always!!! I was only as good as the men who worked for me!!!!! Just saying
Wow just got home from a 103 degree work day at 1 pm to get to have lunch and watch this great video update! Your rigging is first class. You have got to be blessed to have the outstanding help you have. Looking forward to the next progress video. Thank You!
I'm really enjoying the way you are putting your barn together. I like watching the old style of barn building. I watched Amish here in Pennsylvania, USA putting up their barns and even watched them cutting and fitting all the joints and such. That skill is becoming a lost art. 👍❤️📹🤔😳😄
That is one big frame you are putting together, it also looks like you are teaching others how to build stuff (unless they already know), good work all involved.
i am so glad you always persevere, "can't" is not in your vocabulary, and its awesome to watch!! thanks for always sharing with us. it also helps when you have an equally strong woman by your side, kudos to dot for your strength behind the seens!
If I lived in your area, I'd volunteer to help out in a heartbeat. What a beautiful structure. As some have said, it's artwork. Well done! I'm not sure if you have barn owls in your area, but if ANY barn needs an owl, it's that one. 😁 They're good luck here. Are they good luck there as well?
Another interesting video and a tribute to your skill and craftsmanship. One small thing. I was a Fibrous Plasterer way back before laser levels and the like. We used water levels. To achieve straight alignment of false beams and the like, we used string lines with a 5mm packing piece under the line at the end of the line of beams . The line was nailed to say 25mm up from the edge of the end beams and a wooden gauge notched out at 25mm to move along the bottom edge so that it just touched the line. All of this avoided the line touching the beams and being interfered with. But I think maybe 'I am teaching my grandmother to suck eggs.' Those were in the prehistoric days of feet and inches. Keep those videos coming, Kris. I love em. Great stuff.
Wow, great job Kris. You are doing what a lot of us would love to be doing. Been watching your channel for some years now. I am a modern day chippy but this traditional carpentry is very exciting. Love your work mate. Gday from Aus.
That is not a barn. It’s a piece of art! Must be really satisfying every time you fit multiple pieces together. Well done, sir.
Great comment
Totally agree.
I second that, wonderful.
Agreed. Love the way that looks.

Thank you for your kind words it means a lot.
Completely agree!
he's consistently capable of a ridiculously high output for one man
most definitely!!!
Barn? I thought this was going to be his house?
@@RobertWiggersthat’s next 😂
totally agree

A beer or a bear? Just wondering, lol 😋
You deserve that Grizzly and dont let anyone tell you any different!
That’s so true .👍

Really looking forward to this, especially now we're back to 'classic Kris' :)
x1000%
It's been a pleasure watching this build progress. I've learned a lot, thank you.

This beautiful, intricate , massive work of art. Something doesn't fit quite right...Kris "oh just give it a jiggle and a poke"! I love it!
That, right there is sterling work. Just goes to show those boys that helped you craft all that in that cow shed knew what they’re doing. Great advert for their abilities
It's like a cathedral this barn. A work of art. Thanks so much for sharing.

Love the t-shirt, Sam. It's looking a lot bigger than I imagined. Excellent work.
Yes,slow and steady wins the race.satisfying to see all the pieces finally being put in place, the wood.
“No time line “
“No dead line “
Relaxing hard work 🙃
You do look less stressed sir .
😎

Morning Kris, Morning Puss! So looking forward to this chapter of the Barn build! All the best!
Just wanted to say that although you are not near completing the project it's really already become a thing of beauty 😍
Kris Harbour I am so excited and happy for you seeing this particular part of the Barn build starting truly impressed with the level of ingenuity that you have shown you have shared with the viewers ever since you began making UA-cam videos congratulations 👏 very proud of you for taking on the extra help.

Really cool to see the gin pole work. You can never have enough headroom, so build those as tall as you practically and safely can.
As others have mentioned, I applaud your decision to work slowly and by hand. Your contraption, your volunteers / apprentices, and commitment to teaching by doing makes me happy.
Beautiful timber frame! Congrats with the first bits going up.
This is much more interesting than watching a professional crew put the frame together. 👍

this series has been absolute fantastic! seeing it come together has been so much fun.
"There's no timeline; just do it nice and safe", awesome✊🍀
As ever it’s already looking better than I’d expected. Your projects really do have a quality look. The time and effort is nearly always worth while. Just enjoy taking your time and watching it emerge. And be proud 😊
This barn is going to be epic!
Can’t beat a kris upload on a Friday evening 🤘🏽 will watch when the mrs and kid are asleep 🤣🤣
Incredible Kris, part one up and looks stunning already. You, Dot and the gang have done a super job. Can’t wait for the next part. Thanks for showing/sharing your skills. Stay well all.
Absolutely fantastic Kris. It looks really impressive even at this early stage 😊 I’m sure the weather helped keep you all cool 👌🏼
Wow! simply amazed how everything is coming together nicely after all the hard work. What a talented group of friends you have working with you Chris . Well done, looking forward to the next installment of the build .
Somewhere there is a Fairy Queen who cast a wonderful spell on this man. Because this is not even human!
Much more enjoyable to concentrate on doing the job rather than on a deadline, and generally the job gets done faster, safer and to a higher standard 👍🏻
Good luck 🍀
This barn is just stunning!! Lost for words on the sheer scale and quality. In awe!!!
Going up very nicely the old(er) fashioned way! A beautiful frame you've made there.
In absolute awe of your engineering excellence. Some chains, braces, ratchet straps and muscle, what a creation. Loving it.
I am so excited that you are finally getting the barn assembled. So much hard work going into this masterpiece! I am going to love watching every step of the journey. Absolutely love your building style. Great work to all of you.

Watching this being built offsite didn't give it justice.
Seeing it in place this barn as you always say "is going to be a beast".
Wow. :)
Hey Kris it's all coming together great mate. You've done an awesome job. Cheers Dan.
Amazing work Kris & Team! You remind me of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who not only built the technology, he built the technology to build the technology!
It is FABULOUS Kris... and ingenious! Good team with you too. 👏👍🥳

Oh, and tell that worthy young'un, "bevel edge down" 😄
I reckon this would have been a prime candidate for grand designs. Fantastic craftmanship and a lot of swearing.
I have watched all of your videos. You are a true craftsman Kris. You are continually improving your skills and it is amazing to watch. Thank you
There is nothing quite like turning on my computer in the morning and finding out that your next video is ready to view. I like that you put your enjoyment ahead of some arbitrary deadline.
Nice to see your barn puzzle coming together!
Pretty awesome how you did your Derrick on the tractor! Pretty ingenious!
Thanks Kris, waiting on pins and needles for the next episode of your build!
Now this is proper building and craftsmanship 👍🏻
Youv'e come thousands of kilometers and hundreds of years, so to speak since knocking the home together...An example of sweat and inspiration! Took quite a trip and never left the farm...
Yeah those truss ends that sit on top of the wall plates are called birds mouths 😊 great tradesmanship Kris
Great work Kris, I could watch hours of this at a time with no problem, you should consider doing an uncut version of most of your stuff, you may think it'd be boring but I'm sure I'm not the only one who really likes you, Dot and the lads and the way you do stuff.
Your contraptions are amazing Kris. Archimedes would be proud of you!

Love the lifting frame and the old school techniques. Great workmanship on frames
Now we truly get to see the size and scale of the timber frame.
Your barn when complete will be amazing.
Kris, I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again… you are so very ingenuitive!
Can’t imagine the work that went in to this 25 minute video. Thoroughly enjoyed! Thanks so much for bringing us along.
Wow just got home from a 103 degree work day at 1 pm to get to have lunch and watch this great video update! Your rigging is first class. You have got to be blessed to have the outstanding help you have. Looking forward to the next progress video. Thank You!
Great job Kris (and the lads) been fascinating watching this project prgress, one of the highlights seeing these videos pop up on my feed each time :)
It is lovely to see the timbers coming together. Be safe out there please. No accidents! 😊
That was FANTASTIC to watch. Thank you for sharing with us. WOW!
Looking fabulous Kris👍 Bloody amazing. Props to Sam and Ben, top blokes.
Man what an awsome Crew and stunning job
That is awesome as the track golden mouth of ruin by Archspire seen on one of your colleague tee-shirt. Congrats to all !
Simply brilliant, from the planning to the execution its a thing of beauty. Loving the ingenuity of the crane.
Really nice work Kris, Sam, and Ben. She's a beauty!
Excellent ...I'm glad you've slowed and doing the work yourself and a few helpers, Looking forward for more.
I'm really enjoying the way you are putting your barn together. I like watching the old style of barn building. I watched Amish here in Pennsylvania, USA putting up their barns and even watched them cutting and fitting all the joints and such. That skill is becoming a lost art. 👍❤️📹🤔😳😄
This is really beautiful, craftsmanship all over the place…👍👍
Make sure you leave a time capsule in that building letting everyone know who built the thousand year old barn. It’s going to be amazing 👍.
Looks beautiful! Great job and ingenuity getting her together and up. Amazing what one can accomplish with a little hard work and help from friends.
You three are Egyptian gods!! BRAVO 👏
That is one big frame you are putting together, it also looks like you are teaching others how to build stuff (unless they already know), good work all involved.
Instant like. So good seeing the barn being raised
i am so glad you always persevere, "can't" is not in your vocabulary, and its awesome to watch!! thanks for always sharing with us. it also helps when you have an equally strong woman by your side, kudos to dot for your strength behind the seens!
Impressive as always, Kris. It's a pleasure to watch you build this beauty.
Looking forward to seeing the results of your hard work Kris. So far it’s beautiful. Rich Anderson, Florida, USA
What a great structure. Great work.
Love Sam's Archspire shirt!
There was never any doubt you could do this on your own. With a little help. You must be so pleased. It’s looking beautiful. Great job son.
Proper planning and competence makes things look so easy.
Looking great, waiting patiently for the next part of the barn build.
Beautiful work so far, Kris!
If I lived in your area, I'd volunteer to help out in a heartbeat. What a beautiful structure. As some have said, it's artwork. Well done!

Just wow! Inspirational stuff. Thinking about building a little timber framed something
Love this build! and you have been an inspiration for me for years. Bought my own forest lot 1.5 years ago as a result!
Hello puss, hello Kris. Thanks for the video sir, love the farm, amazing craftsmanship and dedication.
Beautiful work and craftsmanship as always Kris. Keep on bud.
Your ingenuity and skill building has really taken off! It's going to be stunning!🚀
Looks great Kris! I love watching you guys work like this. You are all very intelligent to work within your means.
