In this project video I document the raising of a barn frame on my property! This traditional post and beam horse barn was designed by Taylor Forrest and Built by Brett Pulliam. The foundation was install last year (August 2020) with intentions of us doing the frame with our maker friends, but with the world being what it is, and a busy year, we decided to hire a professional to cut and erect the frame... and we are very happy we did!
Thank you Brett! In the upcoming year we will document the roof and closing in of the barn. It will be used for up to 4 horses and an apartment. thank you ! xo

When someone says that they are a master in their craft, show them this guys skills. This my friends is a true blue (old school) master of woodworking/woodcraft.
The difference between someone that knows what they are doing and someone that thinks they know what they are doing is pretty obvious in this video.
There is not much allowance for screwing up when setting thousand pound timbers.
I absolutely loved this! Please keep us updated with progress on this thing!
The lady said she built it, but the video shows her sitting down watching her phone, and guys building the structure. My design, my, I, me..., in my dreams.
she sounds insufferable

I like that they kept the tradition of a bough on the finished frame.
Great video!
I framed dozens of houses in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Every one got a bough weather or not the owner asked.
The carpenter must do this on the highest point to grant tribute to the nature that provides... life.
That is what i was told.
@@mmercier0921 I thought it was originally just to signal to everyone that the party was about to start ;)
Brett seems like a true craftsman. Legend.
Yeah... I could tel be the way he talked about architects that he's the real deal. lol.. I've dealt with them for years building stuff like this-- and it's a nightmare.
I'd enroll into his workshop in a heartbeat!
"(...) with the world being what it is (...)" a smart man knows that four horses will soon be more useful than a pick-up without gas. I always thought Jimmy Diresta was a wise man. Dear friends from all over the world, I wish you strength and courage for the future, because winter is coming and I think it will be a long time. Cheers from Belgium.
Freaking incredible, and certainly under appreciated what this guy does!
Most people have never seen a post and beam construction. 30 years as a carpenter, i worked on only 2.
How these past people did this with hand saw, horses and pully is amazing.
Brett was obviously very fortunate to have Taylor there to supervise and instruct.
Brett just wanted to tag along to this build to absorb her expertise.
There's nothing like a barn raising in the Catskill region! Well done Taylor and Jimmy it's beautiful! Thank you for sharing so much about your design and thought that went into the building, the prep and the process for its final application, it means a lot more...

I've been watching woodworking videos on UA-cam for a long long time and I love it but this is one of the best (top 5), thanks Brett for the craftsmanship and Jimmy for sharing this video
All the grandeur, elegance & presence of a great cathedral. Magnificent filming & commentary with an edge, focus & passion. Really lifted me way up high. Thank you for sharing!
That looks awesome, Please tell Taylor she did a great job on design. The builder is an absolute artist.
Jimmy's Channel, Taylor's barn, design and all. I really appreciate how much legwork Taylor put into this project and really inspiring to see your "get after it" approach to problem solving. Hearing the way you are talking about the layout and the thought process involved is really neat. Brett is one of the pieces that you found to help you manifest your ideas. Great demonstration of leadership.
I've been in construction my whole life I'm 63 and I'm really impressed this is a master carpenter I can't tell you how much I respect this work
This crew could easily restore Notre Dame in no time 😉
Nice job, Brett. So great to see how nicely a frame by an experienced builder goes together.
Still on my bucket list to build a big workshop not dissimilar to this. We built a few small ones and that goes quite smoothly now, but the big stuff still amazes me. I know it works the same, but the more complicated it gets, the more you have to trust your measurements.
Great design, footage and commentary, looking forward to seeing the build progress!
What an inspiration. Such a great example of a person who spends everyday, absolutely loving what he does for a living. Class.
The person who states what they want is the end user and they provide the "user requirements". That is not designing. Designing is what makes the structure viable; Brett designed and built the barn.
@ I don’t know much about the fine details of architecture, plumbing, or anything near what the kind of ground work and planning a project like this would take.
But.
I do know what it’s like to pour your heart and soul, your brain, sweat, and tears into an idea and dream that you believe in and seeing it come to life. I am a mechanic and an artist myself, for over 10 years, and this is wholly impressive and sensational work. Your content and art is incredible, and it’s clear you poured yourself into this barn and worked your tail off through the process. This kind of result and vision doesn’t come from just any average mind, this comes from a passionate artist and hard worker. Hats off to you and the whole crew, your barn is stunning!
Would love to work with Brett for a year
You’re the man Carl! Love your videos👍
Someone make this happen!
I hope you come to work hard. lol... I did this stuff for over a decade, and those boards never get any lighter.
I would love to work for you and your father for a year Carl!
So THIS is where you learned it all, eh?
This building will last for over 100 years. Excellent videos letting us see this incredible building's progress. Thank you.
Framers are about the coolest of the trades and timber framers are the coolest of the cool
Love watching craftsmen who excell at their trade. Much like Jimmy DiResta.
I really like the thoughtful diligent Taylor was in her design and building process. One smart cookie. Second floor art studio, yeah! This is an amazing build. Bravo.
What I wouldn't give to work with this guy for 5 years. Old school skills and craftsman like him are a dying breed.
Who new Jimmy could make a podcast without saying a podcast keep it up 🥰
Aka build a barn like your goin to live in it. Beautiful work.
That is an real craftsman, I’m truly impressed👍
Always a big fan of Jimmy and Taylor voiceover and then you throw in the Timber Frame and it’s just awesome.
The bones of the structure (the frame) are beautiful, strong and will be there for a long time, love seeing this type of construction.
The way that's built, it looks good for at least 100 years!
Excellent video. Thank you: Mrs. Diresta thank you.
We've been watching barnwood builders (13 seasons) they save old cabins and barns(timber frames) very cool build
If we do another timber frame structure at the Blackthorn, I hope Taylor joins us. I enjoyed the video and hearing the thought process behind the planning and design. I like when I can get insights into how other people think. Nice job!👍🐎
Thanks for sharing this Master craftsman story. What an impressive master of his craft.
Timber frames are the best. They look so cool, takes a true craftsman to get it right.
That is a beautiful horse barn! Thank you for including us in this project. I know that, especially in these times, that is a huge undertaking. I have been building a steel barn on my property for many years. As we all know, You have time when there is no money, and you have money when there is no time. I have finally been able to finish mine. It's no where as cool as yours but I will finally be able to live my dream. Thanks for letting us share.
I drove past on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful new timber frame barn had suddenly appeared. Looks amazing and can't wait to see it all finished.
@@epiphgd4302 yep, night vision goggles, hiding in bushes, the whole shebang! 😳
I also live down the road from Jimmy. 😂
Marvelous structure! Well done, ALL! Great video! Thank you.
Wow this Barn is incredible brings back memories of visiting my Grandparents Farm and playing in the Hay Barn.
Brett is a man after me own heart, old school. To hell with CNC and CGI whatever they are. just hands on carpentry, a sadly disappearing art.A breath of fresh air!
Enjoyed the video. Good to hear Taylor and your thoughts through the build process. The interview with the builder at the end was good too.Great to see an efficient grew working together.
I am in awe of this incredible barn. I did not know people are still doing this sort of construction. Bravo and lucky hose.
Congratulations on your work, greetings from Brazil. Diresta fan!!!
There is nothing you two can't do. Even if you have help doing it. A horse barn is so cool!
It's such a pleasure watching someone with a lot of skill put that skill to use!
Awesome to see they're wearing fall protection, too! Great job!! Often, too many say they aren't worried about falls, " they've done this so many times..." But safety considerations doesn't just protect the person up high, it also protects those below, the Contractor, the Owner and the property, itself. Full thumbs up !
WOW! Very, Very Nice. Excellent job.
Valeu Diresta!🇧🇷
Really enjoy to watching this video.. God bless❤
Very cool so glad you got all this footage and really enjoyed hearing you and Taylor talk about the whole process.
That was awesome, thanks for sharing, keep us updated.
You may have designed a horse barn but this looks like a cathedral. Amazing build. Thanks for sharing this insightful video. Wishing you and your family a blessed week. Cheers.
It had me off looking at medieval cathedrals, center hall with their flying buttresses. Notre Dame!
I love that type of construction! Nice to hear Taylor with you! 🤗
This was really enjoyable. Now I want to live in a timber-framed barn...
They're actually really affordable if you build them yourself. I've actually built one like this, but it was with metal beams-- different look, but still very similar feel-- and they spray-foamed the walls after and one of the last days we were there, with a foot of snow on the ground outside--- we worked inside and it was still warm inside; with no heater running or anything.. they even had radiator floors, but it wasn't even hooked up yet.... My point is, if you use spray foam insulation, it's just like a giant igloo ice chest. It's so unbelievably efficient.
I wonder how comfortable they would be in our climate.
That seems creepy... I like in Yeg, maybe less creepy now?
Me to they are beawdome
Looks very New World Dutch. Very fitting for the Hudson River Valley. Nice to see one going up instead of getting torn down and shipped to Texas. Enjoy the space.
Very beautiful barn Jimmy Diresta and Taylor. can't wait to see more videos on this great project. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making God bless
The timelapse at the end with the clouds running over was wonderful to watch
It's always amazing to watch any master of any craft.
So awesome to see a barn constructed this way. Great craftsmanship and teamwork.
Very Amazing Jimmy, Thanks for sharing.
❤ I too know that the scarf is a good part of your frame
Just wow, thanks for sharing
I'm alone, and I'm watching this! Congrats on the build!
Always loved timber frames. This will be a beautiful building. Lucky horses. 😊
True craftsmanship! Gorgeous barn!
Super cool!!! Great show! Was neat to see his work up close👍👍👍👍👍
What an awesome experience! So glad you shared this.
just reading the title, not sure what to expect: barn building like in "witness", or "Kingpin" (secretly fingers crossing for Kingpin)
Master Jimmy DiResta. Thank You!
Beautiful design and what impeccable workmanship!!! Good Luck Jimmy & Taylor!
Simply amazing work! I love the attention to detail in both the build and the videography.
How in the hell over 200 people leave a down vote is beyond me.

Awesome job! What a work of art; beauty and function.
So stoked to see this coming together for Taylor! I can't get over the fact that I stood there looking at stacks of timbers & a slab last weekend and now there's a barn frame completely erected less than a week later. It's bananas! Can't wait to see how this finishes out. All the best, Andrew @BranchAndFoundry
Absolutely fantastic amazing builder well done! I truly hope we see some more of these videos in the future.
You designed it. he built it Give the builder his due credit
More like she found a picture on pintrest.
Wow what a craftsman and what a beautiful barn.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
This is beautiful work from design to raising.
What a fantastic structure, I would live in that let alone the horses.. Nice work Taylor 👍🇬🇧
Beautiful work that takes a lifetime to master. Congratulations to you guys
Its a joy to watch a master like Brett work!
Wow, Brett is a true master-craftsman! That's an absolutely brilliant piece of engineering and a really enjoyable video too.
27:06 - I love that hammer. It's so cartoonesque - never thought I would see anything like that in use.
I need a Jimmy and Taylor podcast in my life
The thumbnail looks like a model! What was I thinking???
you can see someone standing
Brother...you're not the only one.
My first thought too.
@@anthonydovenbarger Yeah............never happens with models.......
Awesome build Jimmy and Taylor!!! So happy for you both! Happy to see it up!
That barn will be there for 300 years easy. Great work.
What a fountain of knowledge. I surely hope he's found the correct "pool" in which to spill that knowledge. That is an awesome barn.
Very cool. Really enjoyed watching the build. Can't wait to see the next phase.
True words spoken from Brett about architects and not knowing about paper concept to real life in the field😂😂
He is absolutely spot on
Awesome barn and workmanship
That is a good looking barn, no different than it would have been framed 200 years ago.
This is the coolest timber framing video I've ever seen. (Tis true. It is good, and I did watch this alone.)
It is always nice to see a timber frame go up. If you get a chance to visit, the Tannersville Arboretum has two timber framed buildings that use a lot of natural shapes and live edge or round timbers. I was the lead on the carriage barn, and was involved with the Visitor's Center as well.
What an awesome job!!! In love.. can’t wait to see it finish !!!
This IS the best timber frame assembly video.
great to see a traditional timber frame barn built today!
The best Horse Hotel in the World........Great work 👍👍👍
