    so, a few months ago I posted a video about radiooooo.com and koala sampler. it wasn't supposed to be controversial lol but apparently, people are still very fckn weird about sampling, or at least some new forms of sampling (meaning from the internet... OH, tHE HERESY!)
    anyway, that made me think that I haven't really made a video about using the ‪@elfaudio‬ #koalasampler to sample from vinyl. so I did. you'll need some extra equipment - just an audio interface - I'm using a TC helicon go twin (no it's not a sponsored video) with a USB A to USB C adaptor. also, you're gonna need to make sure that your vinyl player has a LINE LEVEL output (more info about it in the video).
    I wrapped the video up with some sample-based beatmaking using a cool greek record. enjoy!

    The great thing about sampling scratchy vinyl, if you're into that sort of sound, is you get the static from each point in the record and it becomes it's own rhythmic texture as opposed to a generic record static sample or plugin laid over the whole production. I've been using samplers since pretty far back into the mid 80s, and Koala is nothing short of a miracle. I even bought it again for my android phone since the license doesn't transfer between mac and PC. I'm happy to throw the developer another 15 bucks if it keeps the small company going.

    I like that attitude at the beginning of the video, fuck the haters. I didn't liked the concept of sampling before, but I love it now. Your videos are great, and this beat is on fire. Greetings from Argentina

    i found i can use a little iRig2 to sample into Koala from almost anywhere, into my iPad,
    (i don’t have turntables for vinyl, yet) but i’ve sampled from my Synth, Korg keyboard, youtube off my iphone, and even from Maschine Mk3 into Koala, so any Koala users out there who happen to have an iRig or something like it (if you don’t have what Umami shows in the video ) you “should” probably be able to use it for your vinyl LPs also ….
    just FYI for anyone out there

      yeah iRig is good for this! any audio interface really, especially if portable and battery powered.

    I am a hip hop lover but I think it would be great if beat makers were open about the sample sources. They are upset about sample snitching. But I mean. You cannot use the work of others in your own work and be upset because someone recognize the original song. Wtf.

    i already have an sp404mk2, a po133 and a korg volca sample 2 but im curious about koala sampler since a little time now but im afraid of taking it because i don't want to leave my hardware samplers in the dust if i found that koala sampler is more convenient, what do you think of it ?

    • @BIGUMAMI
      @BIGUMAMI  Рік тому +4

      in my humble opinion Koala Sampler is absolutely amazing but both in terms of tactility and sound, hardware just hits different - all of the samplers you mentioned have their own feel and their own sound. in fact, if I just wanna jam, 90% of the times I reach for them before using my iPad, tbh. so in short, don't worry, your samplers are gonna be dust free ahaha

    If I hit a putt and then hit another putt, the sound overlaps, is there a solution? I'm sorry for my bad English

      with "putt", you mean sample? in that case, try and put both samples in the same choke group and you'll solve that problem!

    Yeah, the arguments against sampling are ridiculous. Granted, there's a line between sampling and plagiarism, but it's usually pretty obvious.

    • @BIGUMAMI
      @BIGUMAMI  9 місяців тому +1

      as I said in another comment thread: honestly, being anti-sampling in 2023 is just plain antidiluvian and to be honest it's one in a million who still complains about it.
      to me, the stupidest and most infuriating thing is about WHERE you sampled from. purists and gatekeepers of all kinds will give you shit for sampling from the internet cos they believe vinyl digging is the only way.
      meanwhile, they probably released mixtapes without crediting the original artists while I at least try and ask for permission even if I sample off an instagram reel before commercially releasing anything
