- Last night I suddenly experienced an enlightenment 😀💡 I got the idea to do live looping in Koala using the new mixer. I felt like a fool, how come I didn't think of it before?! It's my first attempt, it's not perfect in many ways, I still need to work on it a lot. But I'm happy because I really wanted to do looping in Koala :D I hope it inspires you.
Every tiny bit of support makes a huge difference, thank you 🙏

This is Koala at a whole new level. Thanks for showing all your settings and setup, though subtly. I've wondered how to use it as a live looper... this is epic.
Thank you! I found a couple of new ways to loop in Koala since. As soon as I finish the album I'm working on, I want to FINALLY make a tutorial on Koala looping, I've been promising it since releasing this video 😬
I look forward to it!
Lovely! The pre-loaded sequences, I’ve tried that before with not massive success but you’ve given us a load of tips here. Playing the sample after pressing Edit to see the length, to match the length of the next one recorded, mixing one-shots with the loops and adding one-shots into the loops. Super cool and your singing is amazing.
Thank you soooo much for your appreciation! 🙏 I was thinking of making a video that would break down this method that I'd like to improve. So reading your comment convinced me to actually do it. I already have more ideas 🙂
Just a detail - I didn't check the length. I always stopped recording right before the last beat of the sequence so that it would start playing immediately. But in some cases I accidentally recorded the breaths or started singing a little bit later so I needed to adjust the beginning of the sample to compensate for these mistakes 🙂
@@rooshiemusic thank you for the extra detail. That’s a great point about stopping the recording just before the end so it’s immediately picked up the next time the sequence goes round.
You would think that for someone that likes live looping as much as I do I would have figured this out, but I am humbled and grateful to say that you have taught me something awesome today.
@@Grainz_music I know that feeling 😄 I got this idea all of a sudden in the middle of the night, my random, hyperactive brain is useful sometimes 😅 I'm glad that it inspired you, I can't wait to work on the technique and create some tutorials. But I'm so busy...
Don't fully understand what's going on but I can tell that I like it!
Yeah, it's probably more understandable to the Koala users, if you are not familiar with it, I can imagine the confusion 😀 I'll probably do another video where I'll explain more. Thanks a lot 🙏 I really appreciate it
I didn't know the Koala 🐨 Sampler had moving images as an option for the wallpaper, nice!
Been a fan OF THE WAY YOU LOVE MUSIC THE ESSENCE OF YOUR ART since day one you are so APPRECIATED 🎉
Oooh myyy 🥲 Thank you 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Yeah this. It’s inspiring
:3 I didn't know the Koala 🐨 Sampler had moving images as an option for the wallpaper, nice!
Aah, I'm glad that you learned about this thanks to my video 🙂 Just go to settings, extras and there you'll find the option for the background. I also use AI generators for these pictures, I like ixeogram, it's free 🙂
Brilliant! :)
Well, it still needs a lot of work to figure out how to make it sound good and not too repetitive, but it made me happy anyway. And if YOU find it brilliant, I am pleased even more, hehe
this is stunning
Thanks a lot, I'm glad you like it and I hope that it inspires you :)
This is beautiful
Thank you 🙂🙏
Amazing possibilities for this technique!
Yes! I can't wait to master it better and explore it more 🙂
Found you on discord. I am hukmut.
Excellent music. You are still my mentor. Thank you.
That's very kind of you, I'm glad that you find my stuff useful 🙏
Just... Wow...
🙏🤍
Amazing! Love it
Thank you so much! I hope it inspired you!
wonderful, really truly captivating 👌👍🔥
Thank you so much Klayton 💛
so amazing!!!
Oh thank you Koala Lord the Great 🙏
Great title and sounds 👏🏼🎶👌👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😁✌️
Oh thank you so much!
Loving the Tibet like vocals
Thanks! I love playing with overtone singing 🙂
This was dope to watch. Gave me ideas to start experimenting with. You have a beautiful voice. Thanks for the inspiration!
I'm so happy that it inspired you! That's why I did the video 🙂 And thanks for all the nice words! Enjoy the experimenting and stay creative!
Excellent
Thank you 🙏
I think you just (re)invented Clannad!😊
Oh, I used to listen to them a little when I was a teenager, I don't remember it too well to be able to compare it to this, it's interesting! I must listen to something again
that is awesome Roshie, were you using all on board koala fx/?
Thank you! No, actually just some (um, well, lots of 😅) delays and reverbs as you can see in the video where I go through the mixer.
@@rooshiemusic ahhahah nothing wrong with that.. loved the video thanks!!! and prompted me toget back into exploring Koala! :)
well done, bravo!
Thanks 🙂
I never thought to use this as a live Looper. Why not?👊
I have always wanted to have a looper in Koala and kept bothering Marek, the creator, to make it (he himself wants it). But then I realized this and am satisfied 😀
so dope
Senks 😀
I had no idea about this record song option
Me neither, I just got this idea suddenly in the middle of the night 😀 I have more ideas how to do it better, so that the mix would sound better etc. I'll keep trying 🙂
Love love ❤️ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤it
This makes me so happy, thank you 🤍
Have no clue how you did it apprt from maybe pre-make sequence loops but this beautifull to my ears !
Oh thank you Cubi! Yes, the principle is actually that simple. I'll do a video where I'll break it down a little as soon as I can 🙂
Wonderful production, really lovely. How are you routing audio in/out of the iPad?
Ah, thank you so much 🙏 In this case it was very simple - I only used the iPad microphone and recorded it directly in Koala. But I also use an audio interface if I want to connect my dynamic microphone and instruments 🙂
Nice one
Thank you!
@@rooshiemusic 🙂
Very good. The hand drumming was an excellent touch. What kind of RGB background lighting do you have for this? Thanks
Thank you 🙂 Here, I used my small RGB light, unfortunately, I can't put external links into comments. But it is a small cube that I can put on a tripod and it has many modes. Ah, you can actually see it here on the table next to the microphone stand 😀 ua-cam.com/video/im-G7ZDEt1E/v-deo.htmlsi=DVc1rMU1qiBCyKv_
I know that this thingy is sold under many names and brands.
I don't know if it was this live looping video but I also used a video on UA-cam with a long loop of abstract color animation and put it on one of my computer screens that are on the table where I recorded the video. Or maybe I just took my LED tape and put it on the right side and the cube is on the left. That's more likely because the running computer would cause more noise in the video using the iPad mic. So... Here's a bunch of tips for you because I don't remember 😄
Oh that's a neat idea. Setting up the sequencer like that. I was struggling to find a way to do this.
I'm glad if it helped you! I'm trying to find the time to make a tutorial. Thanks for a nice comment 🙂
Definitely make a tutorial on it. @@rooshiemusic
Don’t hold your breath
@@andrewharman6861 I'm sorry it takes me so long, not only this but many other projects that I really want to do. But I'm having a baby in less than three weeks and the whole pregnancy has been really tough. It's very hard to do anything, so unfortunately, I am unable to keep making the content, especially more complex one, that regularly. Also Marek, the Koala developer, told me about some new features he wants to add for a better live looping. I was waiting to get more information to know whether to do the tuto now or when the features are ready. Thanks for your understanding and patience 🙏
Magic hands
I'd say chaotic but chaos is good (sometimes :D) Thanks!
*Utterly fascinating*
Wonderful soundscapes.
So, you simply just tried doing stuff until you came up with this production, I guess?
I need more information.
Please.
Do you mean this specific track or the process I invented? And thanks 🙂🙏 I'd like to make a video where I'd explain everything, so your question is another tip what to include in the video
What do you do after recording? Do you finish the songs in a DAW? I use Koala in Cubasis but I prefer to use it stand-alone as you just did. Very good! I love it 👍😉
Because I usually record everything live from the master bus and don't have the stems, I only master the recording in Logic Pro 🙂 I showed how I do it in one of my recent videos, the Unknown Void project breakdown. I still need to figure out how to do it correctly in Logic 😀
I'd like to make a tutorial on Koala looping ASAIC but I've been really busy and then sick so it's still waiting in the line...
Thanks for the nice feedback, it always encourages me 🙂
Can explain how you do this? I can not clearly see what you do in the beginning.
I want to make a detailed video with explanation. But still didn't have the opportunity to do it. Simply - you insert the midi notes into the piano roll even though they're empty. I stretched the notes through the whole sequence. Then I pressed play and I was listening to the metronome. I waited for the end of the sequence (counted in my head) and then started recording the loops into the pads that were already sequenced in the piano roll. That's why there's a moment of silence between pressing play and starting to sing. Does it make any sense to you? Feel free to ask more questions 🙂 Unfortunately, it will be difficult for me to do the tutorial this week, maybe near the end of the week. Hopefully...
@@rooshiemusic I think I understand. I will try that out. Thank you very much for the explaination!
@@evertmeurs no problem! Also, i started recording the track right before the first beat of the sequence and stopped recording before the end of the sequence so that it would play immediately. 🙂 Good luck! Share your results if you make a video!
This is brilliant. You’re insanely good 🔥
@@rooshiemusic I absolutely will.
wow Koala supports animation background ??
Yeah! You're not the first one who is surprised, I'll maybe make a short video tutorial 🙂 You go to settings -> extras -> background. You choose a picture and then you will go to the same place in the settings again and you will find an option to put some effect to the background.
@@rooshiemusic it is actually quite dope! i must try that !
@@benbenzon absolutely! And I use AI generators to make some abstract backgrounds, for example ideogram. It's free and quite decent 🙂
