    The battery's rating is probably the *cold* cranking amps (CCA), which is lower than the regular cranking amps (CA) which your meter was testing.

    Great video. I don't know if it's the right thing to do but I always grease battery terminal. It prevent terminal corrosion, as far as I know it work just fine and doesn't have any side effect on battery.

    • @HeidiandFranny
      @HeidiandFranny  6 років тому

      That is a good point. There are dielectric greases out there that work really well. These terminals were perfect so no need. I read that the corrosion id from the free hydrogen and oxygen from the battery charging. A good vent is critical as well...

    Well done like always, just one little safety item again "during normal operation of usage the car alternator will recharge the car battery during that process production of hydrogen is created that why the vent is there >> so technically a risk is present of spark to occur to ignite the hydrogen that why the safety gear is a most. Especially eye wear when working on car under or from the top ( sand, loose debris, compress air can unlodge.dirt = airborn partical + corrosive liquid ( brake fluid and all) you don't want a splash of that in your lovely eyes Franny / Heidi. I sorry to sound like a broken record with this I did made the same point on the Porsche battery replacement All the best guy s keep up the good work. SoulDave

    Is that an interstate battery? any reason why you went with that? I usually have had good luck with the Duralast house brand from Autozone.

    • @HeidiandFranny
      @HeidiandFranny  6 років тому +1

      Ya know, no except that when Heidi was calling around they gave her $10 off and it has a 5-year warranty. It is a little weird shape wise and more expensive at $150 than I thought. The guy at the store was so excited about the 356 so that was fun. Great to hear that the Autozone battery is a good piece. I think the original should have lasted a little longer, but it was pretty easy to swap out.

      I have always had bad luck with OEM batteries, i think as the car is shipped to the dealer, poor battery maintenance on the dealership is the culprit. After about 3 years in new cars, I usually keep a close eye on the battery. These newer AGM batteries though might be better.

      @@rj7008 I was able to change the battery in my 2012 using the battery saver. Im not 100% sure if it will avoid the FRM issue but mine was ok after changing the battery while using it. They say the FRM just doesnt like no power for too long (so days with no battery) and also it doesnt like a surge in power. So negative comes off first and its the last to go on. Theyre all things you can at least do to help prevent the issue. Im about to pull my negative to do an ECU Reset and Im sort of worried about the FRM again.

    • @rj7008
      @rj7008 4 місяці тому

      @@sassyrav Before disconnecting the battery, one person additionally suggested unplugging the FRM connectors OR removing the 4 FRM fuses behind the passenger kick panel. The latter seems easier. And I also agree with your idea of using a memory saver.

    • @sassyrav
      @sassyrav 4 місяці тому

      @@rj7008 yes I though about that also. Great idea. I've got the the diagram for the fuses so thatd be the safest way.
      I read resetting the ECU via the battery won't work on the later model BMW cars (2012 Mini) and clearing the adaptations would be the only option to reset it. Bugger, hope this won't upset the Mini.

    • @HeidiandFranny

      Removing the battery will not clear the fault codes... Your best bet it to get a code reader and plug into the OBDII port and read all your fault codes. You can find lots of info with a Google search on those codes. At least you'll have some information on what is going on.

    What about "registration" of the battery. Mini swears that the whole charging system is at risk if you don't program the ECU with the new battery. They charged $139 for the service. Highway robbery/extortion if you ask me. Online comments do seem to support the idea of problems down the road.

      From where?

    • @user-hf7jp2lt5x

      My 2013 Cooper S has a agm start stop battery. If your car has the IBS module on the negative terminal you will need to register the battery change. If you don’t the battery is likely to fail prematurely. I’m just coming up to the first battery change after 10 years, so I don’t mind the cost too much.

    • @user-hf7jp2lt5x
      @user-hf7jp2lt5x Рік тому

      As the battery ages the IBS increases the charging current to maximize use of the tired battery. Registering the new battery prevents the IBS thinking it is still dealing with the old one and overcharging the new battery, which can damage a new one.
