I can't sit down listening to this! Thank you for this great post, and very special thanks to you Earl Young for your beautiful depth of smoooth cool my friend!
This was voted by a bunch of the most prominent Disco DJ's from back in the day, the first Disco song. They were asked, what was the first Disco record, and the overwhelming majority said THIS ONE, Zing.
@@baron7755 It is only better for you. As for me, I believe I have this in my record collection either by Judy Garland or Frank Sinatra but don't worry, I won't break into your "little world" and SUGGEST you check those two recordings out. You wouldn't like them anyway.
@@baron7755 How old are you anyway?? You remind of those two year olds who like to throw temper tantrums every time he or she wants "ATTENTION"!!!!!!!!!!!!
How WONDERFULL for all three of you!!! Sharing this time and having this conversation. I LOVE you two for doing this. Must have been fun and meaningful for Earl too ~ to have the two of you "youngsters" so interested in his past ~ 🥰🥰🥰
Listening to Earl is like like getting a music history lesson. He mentioned house parties, which made me think of 2 songs you should listen to. "Ain't Nothin' But A House Party" by The Showstoppers, and "Down In The Basement" By Etta James.
I love this song! I have it on my playlist, and have to jump up and dance to it every time. How wonderful for you to interview the wonderful Earl Young. His voice is stunning. Another wonderful YT video. And I am so glad Earl mentioned Melvin Franklin. Another superb base singer.
I remember this playing and for some reason it got shelved well before I thought it should... Haven't heard this in years but it is still great... Thanks so much for sharing it again...Love it...
This was the most popular song that the DJ at Keiths Cruise Room Disco in South Florida played back when I first went to the Disco in the summer of 74. I still have the LP long version and play it often. There was no place like the 1970's Discos to escape anything. Loved the vlog today and always what you two do. Thanks!
You should check out the UK doowop revival band Darts (The Darts) They had a wonderful, loony bass-man, called Den Hegarty, who stole the show every time! They also had a fabulous falsetto singer, in the sadly missed Bob Fish, as well as the wonderfully sexy, Rita Ray, & lead vocalist, Griff Fender, so FOUR great singers, who could ALL take lead duties, as well as the guys backing them up instrumentally. They started doing old covers, but also wrote many great tunes in that old 50's style! My favourite was 'Late last night'!
"Disco Party" was the Trammps other #1 US Dance chart hit!! "TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)" was MFSB's big hit!!! From 1973-1975 it was also the theme song of 'Soul Train' !! MFSB was 30 Philly studio musicians. MFSB stands for Mother Father Sister Brother.
J, you're a lucky guy, and Amber you're a lucky girl! I've been watching you both for at least 50-100 videos now. I have never taken the time to like or subscribe to your channel in ANY video as I am usually traveling and watch you both on the move. At the moment I am home, and here I will FINALLY sub and like, then continue so from here moving forward. Much love from Brooklyn. Ciao.
WOW! Haven't heard him in a mad minute. However, on a different note, his name reminded me of someone I haven't seen on your channel that I believe you should checkout. His name is Steve Earl and the song is "Copperhead Road". Steve sings a brand of Americana that encompasses everything from Folk to Blues to Country to Rock n' Roll. "Copperhead Road" is a fantastic Rock song from the early 80s with a really interesting story behind it. Give it a whirl!
I love The Trammps, didn’t know they sang Yakity Yak song, my goodness he looks too young. This group was very popular so many years ago, I can’t believe this, so cool…” Earl Young! “ 💙👍 Thank you, Jay & Amber…💙💖🌸🌸
The Trammps didn't do Yakity Yak. That was The Coasters. They re-did the flip side of Yakity Yak which was Zing Went the Strings of My Heart. But Earl Young is a national treasure and still looks and sounds great. I believe he's in his eighties.
Sir Jay and Lady Amber, This is a cover of this song. Written James F. Hanley in 1934, Introduce by Hal Le Roy,the most notable recording is by Judy Garland,(1938) also the Coasters,(1958), Frank Sinatra (1960).
Love this new format this is such a great time with the history lessons I thought I was pretty Up to snuff on my music knowledge didn't realize I didn't know these guys❤😊
If you guys decide to check out a Judy Garland version make sure on what decade you want to hear because she recorded the song in the thirties, forties, fifties, and sixties. The style of the song changes as does her voice over time.
Mr. Young conveniently forgets that the arranger was Ronnie Baker, the bassist and his business partner. Baker Harris and Young laid down rhythm tracks for so many artists. Even including BB King! who had his own studio, with the Memphis sound, but came to Sigma Sound in Philly anyway.
I think I’m hearing where bass player/singer Larry graham may gotten his inspiration from. Pls don’t quote me on that 😅 I want to hear Earl play drums, pls!
Kind of wish, during your interview with Mr. Young, that you would have discussed the history behind "Zing Went the Strings Of My Heart" rather than just in passing!!
Great tune, incredible talent! On a different note, heard a song today called Booty Man by Tim Wilson, released in 2003. Ya gotta check it out, funny stuff, cool groovin beat! ✌️🤣
Hey, I think you guys should listen to "Tired of Toein' the Line" by Rocky Brunette and Ron Coleman. I believe it's a criminally underrated song from 1979 (early 80's), there's not one reaction video of it on UA-cam that I've seen. It's a really good country rock and new wave styled song. I don't know if you guys heard of it but it'd be really cool if you did a reaction. I'd love to hear your opinion on it!
hello I am new to your channel and songs you react to all are so epic I was wondering if you can react to playin with fire by lita Ford the drums and guitar in it are so awesome much love you are both so amazing people keep up the videos😊
This has nothing to do with this interview but i wonder if the rob squad has ever heard Eddie Murphy featuring Snoop Dogg singing Red Light😅 it's really good or Eddie dinging oh jah jah.
Please Please Sarah Brightman. She was married to Andrew Lloyd Webber. He wrote Evita Jesus Christ Superstar and many more. She is very unique. I would say. A Question of Honor Live.
This man & his band go way back into the 50’s singing Doo Wop songs & beyond. Disco was a very small part of their careers. I didn’t like the Disco dancing, but I liked the music.👍😊
I loved disco until it was overplayed toward the end of the era, but now I appreciate it all over again and look back on those good old days fondly. This group came way before disco and were a part of the best years of music! ❤

Judy Garland recorded this song in 1938 and it became one of her signature songs. First time hearing this version. Very different of course.
this one is exponentially better

I don’t think I’ve ever heard this version. Love it!
Thanks so much for this one, it felt like taking a master class in our own rooms with an absolute genuine legend, can’t wait for take three ✌️
Love the song and your reaction. It was great hearing Earl’s perspective on these songs.

Love listening to his stories and the Trammps music. ❤️

Oh man, I bought this on 7" vinyl, I was absolutely blown away by his voice.
I love me the Trammps. I was in Queens, NYC during the major blackout, and then the Trammps came out with Where Were You When The Lights Went Out.

My #1 song. Brings bittersweet memories ❤
So happy to hear from these legends while we still can!

Some really deep voices currently are Geoff C from Voiceplay (I think) and Tim F from Home Free.

For a nice deep voices try "Crash test dummies - Mmmm mmmm" or "Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue - Where wild roses grow"
Country story song Marty Robbins El Paso.
Go look up the original version of this song by Judy Garland from the 1930s.
