  • In this video, I react for the first time to Carpenters performing “Superstar”. I analyze Karen Carpenter's amazing performance, explain and demonstrate her vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great. The Carpenters are arguably the most classy band ever to grace the earth, spinning musical silk. I am SO happy I got to react and analyse this for you. Daphne loves their music, it makes her relax!

I’d say Karen was more of a genius if she had studied piano I’m sure she could be at her brother’s level if not more but her mother wouldn’t let her shine where her brother shined because she’s the scapegoat child and he was the golden child. Not just she’s a perfect pitch singer she’s a great drummer too and played guitar as well. The record label initially just wanted her to be a soloist but their narcissist mother didn’t approve of it as she was just a minor at that time. She only approved if her son would be given a deal too.
She was the caused why she developed anorexia. That’s the only thing she had a control in her life and she got carried away. Agnes thought her son was more or was loved by the people like Karen but no. When Karen died Richard career also died.

This song was mastered in 1971 with their band providing the instruments BUT Richard took this master and 19 others to England in 2018. He rerecorded with Karens voice and released "Carpenters with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra" December 7, 2018 35 years after Karen died. Richard Carpenter served as the album's producer, arranger and conductor.

They produced a distinctive soft musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's harmonizing, arranging, and composition skills. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded 10 albums along with many singles and several television specials.

Their is such a haunting, melancholy beauty and also purity to her voice. Truly, an angelic voice and a timeless one for the ages. Tears well up every time I listen to her voice, it touches my soul and spirit like no singer ever has. Ever. A once in a lifetime, generational talent.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Totally agree. I was intendING to suggest the same. The guitar solos are so atypical and almost jarring for the Carpenters but bloody awesome. My fav song by them.

Wow!! Lolli, I watch a lot of reaction/analysis videos. The best are made by real musicians who break it down instrumentally, vocally, and the composition. This may be my all time favorite analysis of all time! I watch a lot of Elizabeth Zharoff (The Charismatic Voice) who is outstanding. You rank right up at the top with her. I'm loving exploring your videos. Thank you for sharing!

So many more songs from the Carpenters for you to explore. I sincerely hope you do. There is a reason why so many in the music industry agree that Karen had the best voice of all time. She was a once in a generation (maybe several generations) talent. And gone far too soon. Her voice is like a warm hug that embraces the soul. May I suggest listening to their song Sing? Such a fun, lyrically uplifting song, not to mention the glorious instrumental accompaniment.

Fascinating video, you are the best I have seen so far breaking down "Superstar" and Miss Carpenters vocals. Please breakdown Rainy Days and Mondays, and I Need To Be In Love by the Carpenters. All three songs mention where Miss Carpenters favorites. Also As you know Miss Carpenter was never taught or took lessons how to sing. How could this be possible??? Or was she an angel sent to the earth from heaven with those singing qualities???? Is Daphne your precious dog, if so play Superstar for her.
