Thunder Thumbs may not have invented the "slap and pick" method for bass but he came pretty close to perfecting it! "Get the Funk Out Ma Face" is still my all time favorite from them!
Jay, I’m so happy you found this band. My favorite by them is “Stomp.” I remember being on the dancefloors back in the day losin my mind to The Brothers Johnson
If you hadn't accomplished your goal yet today, J. You accomplished it with this song. Watching you FEEL this song & really get down into it had ME smiling (& probably MANY others too!) I am glad you found a song you like so much. I was going to suggest you add it to a "Feel Good" sort of playlist, but you topped that by saying you were going to add it to your MAIN playlist. I'm so glad for you. I have to be honest in that I have NOT liked all of the Brothers Johnson songs that you have had on the channel to date. THIS SONG, however I DO like. I like it a lot also - even if not QUITE 😄as much as you. I ALSO thank the person who recommended this to you - in order to bring out the sun in your soul tonight, J. All the best.💞
Jay, I love you for reacting to this. Y he Brothers Johnson was one my all time favorite groups. You've got react to Get the Funk Out of My Face next. RIP Louis.
There’s actually a longer version of this where the drums break down solo right before it said “listen to the bass”. According to an interview album their label put out in 78 this song was a response to criticism the band got from fans who thought their 2nd album Right On Time didn’t have any hard funk songs on it; thus the title Ain’t We Funkin Now! Make sure you check out the full 6 minute version of Get The Funk Out Ma Face and their first 3 albums all the way through 🤘🏾
So happy you came back to the brothers Jay. So much more where that came from. You should check out "Get the Funk out Ma Face", "I'll Be Good to You," and "Free and Single," all from their debut album "Look Out for #1," produced by Quincy Jones.
Faith No More, We Care A Lot!! You want bass?? They've got it. The Brothers Johnson are one of my favorite bands! Get The Funk Out Ma Face is a great song.
I so LOVE Brothers Johnson!!! One of my very faves. They're in of the best in FUNK!!! Yeah Jay!!!! This one is awesome, but Stomp is still my favorite!!!❤❤❤❤❤
The Brothers Johnson. I love them. When they had this song called Strawberry 22 it was on a giant 45 that was red. They started out as a session band they played for Quincy Jones and A&M records. They have a lot of hits a lot of songs in their arsenal. I think you would like a lot of their songs and rest in peace. Lewis "Thunder Thumbs" Johnson he's the bass player 🙏🏾
I'm glad you're getting back into more funk now. You haven't even heard all the funk songs by Lakeside, Con funk shun has a lot of funk songs. The legendary group Slave has a lot of funk songs . Cameo has a lot of funky songs that you haven't heard of and that are not pop at all but pure funk
Louis Johnson was a bass master along with Larry Graham, Marcus Miller, and Verdine White (Victor Wooten might belong here as well). You should just add the first three albums to your playlist, and maybe the fourth: Looking Out For #1 Blam! Right On Time Light Up The Night
This is one of several JAMS that was HUGE in the roller rinks back in the day! LOVE it! Louis "Thunder Thumbs" Johnson sets if off on the bass and George "Lightnin' Licks" rocks the lead! 😊👏🏾♬🎤🎸💯🛼
So many songs by Sly that he hasn’t touched yet. Their entire Stand album (my intro to them) is worth a listen. But Everyday People, Stand, and Sing A Simple Song, are some of my favorites.
JAYYY! I'm so excited you finally decided to react to this! I haven't listened yet, but have been wanting you to do this one for a while! Can't wait! 🏃🏾♀️
You are spot on as Funk is something you feel, taste and smell it. You feel it in your bones. There is no other Genre like it. Keep that Funk coming. Cameo, P-Funk, Brass Construction, Ohio Players, Rick James,Fatback Band and of course the ONE n only James Brown
The Brothers Johnson had a sound & funk that everyone loved, including MIchael Jackson who had them help on a number of songs for OFF THE WALL, THRILLER & DANGEROUS albums. Louise Johnson can be heard on MJ's songs - "Billie Jean", "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough". His bass lines are incredible. One of the best bassists ever.

Strawberry Letter 22, Stomp and I'll Be Good to You! Can't go wrong!
I know its strange because of the lyrics (22), but it’s actually Strawberry Letter 23. Weird, right?
Jay did a reaction to "Strawberry Letter 23" and "Stomp" already some time ago. He does need to hear "I'll Be Good To You".
