We’re Marianne and Chris, a married couple from the UK. After some life changing events we decided that life was just too short. We sold all our belongings, bought an old Campervan & rented our house to travel full time. The aim is to attempt to visit every country in the world in either our van or with a backpack. We started videoing our travels for our family and then decided it was a wonderful way to document and share our adventures.
Our latest adventure started in January 2020 when we left the UK in an attempt to drive our van all the way around the world. Let the adventures continue.

Just to inform you During winter, wintertires are mandatory. You can get a fine for not having. Also snowchains are also compulsary they wont let you pass the checkpoint if there is snow ahead.

As an Archaeologist and Historian, I highly enjoyed this episode!
Now the story with the trojan Horse, Helen and Aphrodite were from a writing by Homer, a Greek writer from Antiquity but who lived quite long after the Trojan Wars.
It is nonetheless a Legend, which, contrarily to a Tale, base itself on real facts (and puts some romantic or magical twist to it- but many of what was written in Homer's Illiad concorded with the discoveries)

Mehmed II the conquerer of Konstantinapoli was obsessed with Iliad, he red it many many times. and trojans were the first asiatic nation invaded by greeks. So being an asiatic king when he captured byzantine capital he said " finally i have the revenge of Troj".

*Hi Marianne & Chris ~ glad you made Troy ... in the 90s I remember there were Americans excavating it ... It seems that dig is finished now and since then they tied it up a lot .... The road to Canakkale was I remember at least an hour there wasn't a museum then nor the camping sites to be seen .. Amazing transformation ... Infact you are lucky to have the site to yourself otherwise it is a busy location with plenty of tourists and backpackers.... Horse is same horse in the middle ... I've seen then ..I still have its picture on the postcard... Apparently they placed 40 warriors inside ... Incidentally you could climb inside to see the arrangement as far as I remember ... All nice and epic.... Probably Jason & Argonauts visited there as well on their way to find the Golden Fleece in Giresun (?) in Black Sea Coast ... At least 2 ~ 3 000 years ago .. Hundreds of generations back ... Incredible history ... *Deserve to be an World Heritage Site no doubt ...*

Whenever I watch you videos I remember a tekst about na elderly English lady who bought a van and travelled around America and Africa. When asked how she felt when she visited a new place, she said: "I say to myself just look and look, in case you never come here again!" Today, when we are deprived of enjoying life, we can se how much truth was there in her words. Keep travelling, because we are travelling with you🙂

    Hi Chris
I couldn’t help but notice that since you guys have arrived in Turkey you keep calling every dog you spotted as kangal 🤣
I guess a little correction needed here 😊
You may know or not but Kangal is a mastiff Turkish shepherd dogs from Sivas region of Turkey and they’re sought after worldwide. They’re breed under strict restrictions by a Turkish government agency and their lineage registered by this agency therefore it is impossible that those stray dogs are kangals 😎
Anyway hope you don’t mind. Wish you and Marianne the best as usual and be safe guys 🖖

    • @TREADtheglobe

Ha ha - sorry anything fawn and black we think must be a kangal cross ... they are all so friendly and gentle they certainly have the traits of the kangal ... but noted !! Thank you

@@TREADtheglobe They most certainly are friendly and most of the time well fed by locals (although come to think of it it's Canakkale and I don't know if it's as the same case in Istanbul )

I may be wrong here, but the kangals that are trained to be sheepdogs or goatdogs are very protective of their animal charges, so you may not find them as friendly as the dogs you are meeting in towns. Please be careful. On the mainly positive side, I’m so pleased to have visited Troy with you today. Thanks.

    • @Hypergraph

Those were not kangals. If there were kangals on the street there wouldn't be kangals on the street because people would own them.:)
Kangals are one of the most gentle dogs especially to the children even they are strangers. They are very protective against wolves but they respect humans.
