We’re Marianne and Chris, a married couple from the UK. After some life changing events we decided that life was just too short. We sold all our belongings, bought an old Campervan & rented our house to travel full time. The aim is to attempt to visit every country in the world in either our van or with a backpack. We started videoing our travels for our family and then decided it was a wonderful way to document and share our adventures.
Our latest adventure started in January 2020 when we left the UK in an attempt to drive our van all the way around the world. Let the adventures continue.

@@TREADtheglobe We got this idea Marianne 20 years ago when we lived in Gran Canaria off the Taxi drivers. It stops the dash absorbing heat, and from potential cracking and age hardening from UV, so keep the interior cooler, stops glare on the screen, and massive safety aspect, as the view is without reflective glare off the dashboard. You will also be able to film through the screen without the reflection. To clean, pull it off the little Velcro pieces and shake outside. It easy to fit, and a brilliant idea that we have used for 20 years of living in the sunshine....They make furry toys out of this material. Will email you with a link to see what we use. The place where they had their afternoon tea is called Yoros Cafe. It is named after the castle behind the cafe which is also named Yoros, an ancient Greek and Phonecian castle that was later used by the Byzantine's and Genoese.
In my opinion, it has one of the best, if not the best, sceneries of the Bosphorus strait.
In the future, if you stop by Istanbul I highly advice you see the northern forests and Yoros Kalesi. The northern parts of the Bosphorus is generally not that much known among tourists but, arugably, has the best scenes of Istanbul (both the aegan and european side).
I hope the information was helpful. Have a good day!

The Maiden's Tower (Turkish: Kız Kulesi), also known as Leander's Tower (Tower of Leandros) since the medieval Byzantine period, is a tower on a small islet at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus strait 200 m (220 yd) from the coast of Üsküdar in Istanbul, Turkey.
There are many legends about the construction of the tower and its location. According to one legend, an emperor had a much beloved daughter and one day, an oracle prophesied that she would be killed by a venomous snake on her 18th birthday. The emperor, in an effort to thwart his daughter's early demise by placing her away from land so as to keep her away from any snakes, had the tower built in the middle of the Bosphorus to protect his daughter until her 18th birthday. The princess was placed in the tower, where she was frequently visited only by her father.
On the 18th birthday of the princess, the emperor brought her a basket of exotic sumptuous fruits as a birthday gift, delighted that he was able to prevent the prophecy. Upon reaching into the basket, however, an asp that had been hiding among the fruit bit the young princess and she died in her father's arms, just as the oracle had predicted, hence the name Maiden's Tower.
The older name Leander's Tower comes from another story about a maiden: the ancient Greek myth of Hero and Leander. Hero was a priestess of Aphrodite who lived in a tower at Sestos, at the edge of the Hellespont (Dardanelles). Leander (Leandros), a young man from Abydos on the other side of the strait, fell in love with her and would swim every night across the Hellespont to be with her. Hero would light a lamp every night at the top of her tower to guide his way.
Succumbing to Leander's soft words, and to his argument that Aphrodite, as goddess of love, would scorn the worship of a virgin, Hero allowed him to make love to her. This routine lasted through the warm summer. But one stormy winter night, the waves tossed Leander in the sea and the breezes blew out Hero's light, and Leander lost his way, and was drowned. Hero threw herself from the tower in grief and died as well. The name Maiden's Tower might also have its origins in this ancient story. Due to the vicinity and similarity between the Dardanelles and the Bosphorus, Leander's story was mistakenly attributed to the tower.

Good to see you got a spare tire cover !! The old wooden houses look nice now and well cared for. When we were there during the late 60s , those old houses were bad looking and unpainted. I got a brief view of Rumeli Hisar castle in your video near the 2nd bridge on the the European side. It was a familiar sight for us when we lived there, a view of the castle from our living room window.

That was a lovely video! I hope you stay safe.
The place where Marian and Chris had their afternoon tea is called Yoros Cafe. It is named after the castle behind the cafe which is also named Yoros, an ancient Greek and Phonecian castle that was later used by the Byzantine's and Genoese.
In my opinion, it has one of the best, if not the best, sceneries of the Bosphorus strait.
In the future, if any of you stop by Istanbul I highly advice you see the northern forests and Yoros Kalesi. The northern parts of the Bosphorus is generally not that much known among tourists but, arugably, has the best scenes of Istanbul (both the aegan and european side).
I hope the information was helpful. Have a good day!
