Now you know why us old musicians (over 60) are the way we are. This is what you needed to play to get a gig back then. This was a sample of our radio hits. It pushed your musicianship over the top. I miss it sooo much and yes, I still got a thick head of hair. LOL

Right! It's suddenly occurred to me that it would be fun - by way of demonstrating our point - to get a group of rock fans to nominate (say) their ten favourite bands, based upon their lead guitarist/singer, and _then_ get them to name the bassist and drummer. I'm sure there'd be some gaps there! It's only fairly recently, for example, that even the highly nameable Ringo Starr has won recognition for _his_ special contribution to Beatlemusic. And no wonder poor old Bill Wyman always looked so bloody miserable on stage, back in the day (although the groupies afforded some consolation, no doubt)!

This song was written in 10 minutes in the back of the tour bus on the way to a gig. upon arriving at the venue they perfected the song during sound check and performed it that night live. That's what you call real musicianship. Sadly missed today.

Even today they are a cult figure, so much so , Japanese SHS Bands play cover version of that song and Smoke on the Water, with so much passion you wouldn’t believe ( even down to the unison head banging),you really need to watch and listen on UA-cam to these bands.

The sole called bands of today can't hold a candle to this epic classic or any of the great rock of the 70's

Reaccioné igual que Rebecca la primera vez que escuché esta canción, Ian Gillan un cantante impresionante y subvalorado para mí, no se le ha hecho justicia

As a Barroque music fan, there's a clear continuity between that music and heavy metal. No doubt about it.

My Band covers this tune :) Fun! Last time I was in Germany I cranked up this song cruising at 130+ MPH on the autobahn. I was ALIVE! Thanks for the reaction! My TOP Three (1) Child in Time, (2) Highway Star, and, (3) Smoke on the Water.

Growining up in my teens during the 70s i got to see purple on 3 occasions amongst many other bands , didnt no then but looking back now in my mid sixties what a remarkable and amazing time that was to be alive for music. Keep up the good work rebeka theres still alot of great bands your missing out on like bad company, montrose, black Sabbath, thin lizzy , to name just a few . 👍

Another crazy fact is that the Made In Japan album - from which this comes - was mixed live and recorded directly to stereo at the concert. So no post production possible, not even adjusting the individual instrument levels

Rebekas' face went from astonished to bewildered and back and great to see! ☺️

That feeling creeping in your arms, and chest; thats how the shake in rock dancing happened. To shake it off and not get overwhelmed. Even little kids would lose it, like jelly beans. Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmoore put out power chords like no other! 😆
The songs about the feeling of being in control of powerful emotions that take you. Like driving a beast, or the moment you realise you are in love, not just obssessing or infatuated. Its like an electric connection, you suddenly realise some woman plugged-in.

5 unique people who worked like a machine, but a machine loaded with passion. Hard to find people who complimented each other like that. Sheer fire, but with dexterity & control, yet bordering on being out of control.

DP was a shock back in those days...and nowadays even more. master musicians do not depend on time or places.

About 30 years ago (when I was 8), my parents visited a friend of theirs who had this double LP (Deep Purple - Made in japan). I used to ask him to plug the headphones and let me listen to the record. Adults were hanging out and I was the happiest child on earth. Great performances. All of the songs. As a matter of fact latter as a teenager when I 'discovered' the studio versions of Highway star - child in time - smoke on the water - strange kind of woman etc I remember being very disappointed of how bad they sound compared to "made in japan" versions.
