As many great guitarist that Don Airey has played with he says Ritchie has the best tone he ever heard. His ability to get the most with less is simply genius. Ronnie James Dio sade -84 that Yngwie propbably would do everything Blackmore could and in a faster tempo, but he most writte better material to be as big as Blackmore, and that he didn’t do, but he was crazy good 😊
I saw Ritchie Blackmore perform this song live with Rainbow when Ronnie James Dio was the vocalist. Actually, it was the very last show Dio played with Rainbow. This song live was absolutely mesmerizing so I know exactly how you feel when you say you were "zombied out".
I am so glad you've reacted to the live version of mistreated. This is my favourite Deep purple song with Coverdale and Hughes line up. The crazy high falsetto notes where due to the bassist Glenn Hughes. Coverdale too can hit high notes which he did when he formed his own band Whitesnake (example : crying in the rain) Thanks and regards from India.
Agreed ... the real high notes were sung by Hughes, not Coverdale. Coverdale was belting it out at the same time too, but the more prominent voice during that later section while Blackmore was soloing was Glenn Hughes' voice. Personally, I much prefer Coverdale's voice to Hughes', but Glenn Hughes definitely had his own vocal power.
Exatly Coverdale has blues in his voice, and was only 23 years here, not near his full potential, Ronnie was 34 when he sang it better in terms of just singing as a tenor he was, the raw blues feeling I give to Coverdale🤘
The first and best filmed version of this song. Coverdale owns it for me, and it's interesting to see him perform it again with his band Whitesnake headlining the Donington festival in 1983.
Donington 1983 was not a very good gig, I saw Whitesnake over 20 times live from 1978 onwards up until 1983, they were definitely better at Reading in 1979 and 80 along with Donington 1981.
Great performace Deep Purple on this classic music , fantastic ...!!! Thank Rebeka for reactions's in my sugestions for you . Have more in my list , remember ?? Great Kiss pretty woman .
Your a cool girl. The best version of this song can be heard on the Deep Purple Made in Europe lp. I bought it originally on 8 track. Wow I'm old. Great review.
It's one of the truly great Deep Purple songs. A little later in the video of this show you get to see Ritchie Blackmore 1) hitting an onstage camera with his guitar and 2) destroying his guitar and amps!!!
Yes the Destruction Solo! I was 13 when I saw that on In Concert. I was a huge Ritchie fan before that. People today can't understand just how bad ass that was in that time. Blackmore always said there are sounds you get with your feet you can't get with your hands.
If you want to see rock and roll excess of the '70's, watch Space Truckin' from this same concert. It's like nothing you have ever seen or heard before. This was the California Jam concert, the story behind their performance is iconic.
Such a great song....Ritchie is amazing. You really need to see this same song "Mistreated" (Live video from the Munich Concert - better than the album cut ua-cam.com/video/3RiJKuYvy0s/v-deo.html ) being done by Ritchie Blackmore's next band Rainbow. Same band that did "Temple of the King", but it is Ronnie James Dio on vocals. So good and Ritchie is fantastic as well. ....highly recommend.
Hearing Ritchie tell the story of how he made about 300,000 people there wait for a few hours for Deep Purple to come on, because he had insisted in the contract that they not go until dusk just puts this amazing performance in a whole new light. The people in charge knocked on the band’s door and told them they were on next a few hours too early. So Ritchie locked the door and ignored them. Look at that crowd over his shoulder. Listen to that guitar weep. Coverdale was stellar.
My favourite lineup of Purple, the power, the bluesy rock tones, the heaviness of the music and all members of the band or on point at this concert. They are beasts!
There is a live album with this vocalist (David Coverdale) called "Made In Europe" that also contains another version of this song. My favorite live album by them.

No, David couldn't go that high. This was Glenn Hughes (the bass player) who sang this high part of vocals. Davis has lowest register. Glenn was almost tenor. You should check him out, he was and still is amazing singer!
