Great reaction, Stacey! This was a popular song not long after i got out of High School. I would put the Machine Head 8-track into my 1966 VW bug and drive down the road, Highway Star blaring. Fun times!
I don`t consider myself to be religiously inclined, so I was somewhat sceptical when it first came out...UNTIL I listenend to it..I listen to it every 3 or 4 months, every year, since then..one of the main reasons why: Ian`s vocals
Interesting, i´ve heard this song hundreds of times since the 80´s but it´s the first time I enjoyed it so much, i guess your fun trip was contagious. Thanks!
One of things DP was noted for was their "fuzzy" organ. When I was in my 20's and coming home from partying around 1 or 2 in the morning, I'd want some fast food. There was a 24 hour Jack In the Box about 15 minutes north of my home. Between it and home, a brand new freeway had just opened up. Zero traffic at that hour. I'd get on that freeway, put on this song, crank up the volume, and blast north at 100+ mph!! Seriously!! LOL!!! Great song, great band, and great review!!
The live version that the color clips in this video are from is probably the best version of this song. The organ and guitar solos are gnarly on that one. Ritchie breaks the strings on the guitar and just keeps nailin down harder on it
I could see it in your face that you enjoyed this . Another fantastic song is , Strange Kind Of Woman , live in 1972 , you will definitely love this song also . He will hit more high notes . They have great tunes from the studio , but even better when they are live ! Love your reactions !
You wanna talk about energy... Deep Purple "Burn". This song was released in 1974. That would put me at 14 years old when it was released. The local radio station would play it every morning while I was getting ready for school. Yeah, I was hyped everyday... like I needed to be hyped at 14. Killer song, Killer energy.
One of the most iconic guitar riffs has to be "Smoke On The Water" whose lyrics is based on a true story that happened while Deep Purple were in Montreux, Switzerland to record an album. I wouldn't be surprised if you've heard this one before...
Ian Gillan and the rest of the band at their best but Ian Gillan was voted Best Voice in the World around the early-mid 70's and Deep Purple was the first Ever Live Band I seen in Sydney and my ears rand for 3 days. Absolutely Loved it 🤘😎🤘
The 1975 live performance of "Burn" at California Jam is a classic. It has a replacement lead singer to Ian in David Coverdale, plus the new bassist sings backup and he can sing higher than Ian!
Stacey....A couple of things that are/were of significant interest about Deep Purple. 1) The lead singer had been the star of a hit Broadway Musical....JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR prior to being in Deep Purple. He was considered by many to be one of the best male vocalist of his generation. 2) Deep Purple's Musical volume was measured. It was peerless. Measured in decibels, the group was found to be the loudest Rock group of it's era. And I believe...of any era since (I'm not 100% certain about this, but it wouldn't surprise me). Another bit of trivia about them is; They created the Most Famous Guitar Riff ever in Rock Music. It is the beginning riff from their autobiographical song SMOKE ON THE WATER!!! And, on a personal note, I find you to be the most open, attractive, interesting, sincere, articulate, intelligent, humble, and eager to learn music reactors I have discovered since I began watching reactors at the onset of Covid. I'm very grateful that I found your UA-cam Channel. You are a rare human being in today's lost culture of "Victims" and easily manipulated individuals. If my impressions are accurate....then I wish you the greatest success in your quest for self-fulfillment and joy 😊 🎉
I watched Deep Purple open a concert for Jethro Tull's Aqualung concert in 1972 with this song. It was by far the best concert I've ever been too... Back then everyone was into really powerful cars. Racing really powerful cars is such a blast. It was one huge party! Great video! Thank you!
Jon Lord got that overdriven organ sound by running his Hammond through a Marshall guitar stack. Glad I got to see them back in the day. Still have my "Made in Japan" album.
That is the first song on an excellent album, Machine Head, I've seen them live playing as older men it was still really good. Saw them for free. Europeans listen to a lot of Deep Purple, I remember hearing them in Amsterdam a lot when I was there. That's my German friend Ina's favorite band. Yeah, that really is one of the best bands ever.
For some more high powered Deep Purple, might I suggest, Rat Bat Blue, Fireball, and Speed King. Then you might check out their first hit, Hush, and maybe follow up with their biggest hit, Smoke on the Water. After that, plenty to choose from.
Stacey, best therapy for you is the music we can suggest for you to listen to. We have the best suggestions coming from our catalog of top notch artists music, forever ingrained in our head and soul. Next Deep Purple suggestion, 'LAZY 'or 'SMOKE ON THE WATER.' Thanks. X

High OCTANE speed!! Love Deep since they first hit the scene and have 3 albums and they are such a timeless rock "early metal" band I never get tired of hearing them but my record players gonna wear out soon, lol!
Congratulations on your reactions, Stacey. You say you have no musical knowledge, but I assure you that your sensitivity is worth a thousand times more. For a few days I have been following your journey to discover the soundtrack of my adolescence, Pink Floyd, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Who and now Deep Purple. I'm 64 years old and seeing the same emotions in your reactions that I felt as a teenager the first time I listened to them is something that fills my heart. The album I loved most by Deep Purple is "Made in Japan". Simply incredible. I'm Italian and I had to use the translator 😅💜🕉
Stace, you exuded a younger sister loving a band I just discovered myself and wanna introduce to someone that comes to mind first. The fact that she loved it as much as I did, made the experience doubly special!
🎸🎸 .. I am going to make a recommendation for you Stacey. The band is RUSH. The song is "Spirit Of The Radio" .. they are another amazing Rock band from the 70s.
I still can't believe you've never heard Higway Star! This is one of the biggest hits in the history of rock and music! Played on all radio stations for decades! Ok Satacey, let's go on this trip! And I'm waiting for your video reaction from LOVEBITES, the biggest female Japanese metal band in the history of world power/thrash metal!
Stacy you just bought me with your being so sincere. I’m almost 60, and this music became music of my life and even made me what I’m and what I do (even for the living). The songs usually suggested for DP reaction are practically the same - Smoke on the water, Highway star, Burn, Perfect strangers, When the blind man cries, Black night etc. But! There’s a special song sung by Ian Gillan in his solo project - Ian Gillan Band. The song’s title is Fighting Man. If you really want to loose a sleep or go literally crazy, just give this song a go. It’ll blow your mind - I assure you. Simple request - just carry on reacting and opening the new world of good music. You’re sure to get the Pacific Ocean of revelations, vibes and emotions. Thank you!
Kickass song that opens every live show😂❤😂. My first video of this sing is of 3 of us heading through the crowd getting as close to the stage as we could get😂😂❤❤my friend and I love our Perfect Stranger John❤who made our experience once in a lifetime 😂😂❤❤
Purple were my favourite Heavy Rock band, Lord's Hammond just lifted them above everyone else for me. Another great driving song is My Woman from Tokyo.
Stacey,i always found that the best therapy is music, everything I needed to help myself was already buried deep inside me,and music was the only thing that could reach in there and prize it out. When I need to cry and let out my emotions I play Pink Floyd, when I need to vent inner angst I listen to Black Sabbath, etc etc there's a band for every emotion, just my opinion and how I deal with my life xx
When this song was released I was a junior in high school and still had my 1969 Chevelle SS 396 and when I'd stick this 8-track into the player ... the gas peddle automatically got closer to the floor.
I'd been playing bass for about 2 months, when my instructor asked me to join his band at a festival (1983) replacing his own bass player who was seriously ill. I had to learn Roger Glover's bassline in 2 days, lol. This was before isolated guitar, vocals, etc. Unbeknownst to me, I was actually mimicking his body language...having never even seen him play. What a ride it was! Side note...been in love with Ian Paice since I first saw him perform live. 🥰🥰🥰
I love your reaction videos!! These guys were one of the greatest bands in history!! Personally I think Zeppelin are the GOATS, but Deep Purple are absolutely amazing!! Thx see you next time
Last time i saw them was around 1999 at the Bell center in Montreal ! there was 2 bands they were the second one ! ELP was the first band to play ! 2 of my fav. bands back to back ? ya ! 🥸
WARNING: DO NOT PLAY THIS SONG WHILST DRIVING. This has been a community service announcement. Check out "Fireball" for some more keyboard fun, and "Burn" is simply great.
I love your enthusiasm Stacey. Deep Purple went through several formations, called Mark1, Mark2 etc to Mark9. The 2 songs you have listened to are from the Mark2 formation (‘69 - ‘73). Next song to listen to is “Burn”. This song is from the Mark3 formation (‘73 - ‘75) with a different lead singer David Coverdale and Glen Hughes on bass and vocals. Mark3 is amazing as well but the Mark2 is the best formation Deep Purple ever had. Drummer Ian Paice is the only member of the band who has been part of every Mark, played on every album and toured with all shows.
As a guitarist myself I heard you mention a few times they are so clean. Back then they were using powerful tube amplifiers that were cranked all the way up to where the valves were cooking hot. We call this brown sound. Just the guitar hooked directly into the amp for natural distortion/overdrive. The guitars volume and tone were used a lot to dial back on rhythm and then crank up for a solo. Still clean in comparison to later Heavy Metal with an incredible amount of distortion. On Ritchie Blackmore’s guitar solo is overdriven yet clean, you can hear every note. Guitarists like Richie were masters of the volume and tone. Boomers like me are tone chasers and we appreciate the guitarists we grew up with lol. Sorry for the geeking out but now you know why they were so clean and there’s an art to it.
The video here consists of the audio from the original studio recording, along with video excerpts from two different live recordings of the song, both of which occurred well before the original release, and both of which can be found on UA-cam. The color clips are from their performance on the German TV show "The Beat Club", which was the first live recording of the song. There are numerous differences from the studio and later live versions, especially in the lyrics. The black and white clips are from a later show in Copenhagen. The version there hews much more closely to the LP.

Fun Fact. Ian Gillan was Jesus Christ on the album version of Jesus Christ Superstar.
They opened their concerts with this song!
You wanna talk about energy... Deep Purple "Burn". This song was released in 1974. That would put me at 14 years old when it was released. The local radio station would play it every morning while I was getting ready for school. Yeah, I was hyped everyday... like I needed to be hyped at 14. Killer song, Killer energy.
check out this live version of Burn

I love your commentaries and your appreciation of music. Your one very smart cookie!!
Awww thank you ❤️❤️
Great reaction. Glad you gave a shout out to the brilliant Jon Lord (RIP) on keyboards who was integral to the Deep Purple sound.
I saw them do ,made in Japan album 73 live in Mannheim Germany Smoke on the Water was the biggest hit I think the whole concert was amazing❤
I have been listening to classic rock since the 60's... thousands of songs. This remains to be in my top ten. Never tire of hearing it.
Cruising in the 70s in my Z28 and having it cranked up....and buzzing
been there & done that; one of the best triple-treats ever?
add #4 (of course, which is actually #1)- that FOX sitting next to -- you cruisin'
Yeah, great memories!.
Love the way you feel the music and don’t interrupt to many times , your awesome
Another one to listen to from Deep Purple is " Lazy "!!!
Yes!
One of the most iconic guitar riffs has to be "Smoke On The Water" whose lyrics is based on a true story that happened while Deep Purple were in Montreux, Switzerland to record an album. I wouldn't be surprised if you've heard this one before...
So glad I found your channel. You’ve reacted to some great songs and you have a very calming presence. Keep it up!
This is one of the most acclaimed hard rock bands ever
I suggest Perfect Strangers, another great song from them
Growing up in the 70s, I was lucky enough to see the original lineup twice. No doubt, top 5 live shows I ever saw.
I was driving and grooving when this was released.
Thanks for the trip on memory lane. Cant go roung with Deep Purple. Greetings from italy 💯🤘🇮🇹
So sorry to hear about your health problems Stacey. Keep your head up and all the best. Things get better believe me.
I'm very grateful that I found your
UA-cam Channel. You are a rare human being in today's lost culture of "Victims" and easily manipulated individuals. If my impressions are accurate....then I wish you the greatest success in your quest for self-fulfillment and joy 😊 🎉
'Lazy' is another must listen by Deep Purple. Peace!
I just LOVE to see your pure enjoyment in your reactions. No matter if it's the keyboard, a fascination of a drummer or something else. Please continue to keep it genuine and real. That is what we come for!
Ian's voice is iconic....I don't know if you've heard of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar but he was the main voice in that wonderful spectacle
High OCTANE speed!! Love Deep since they first hit the scene and have 3 albums and they are such a timeless rock "early metal" band I never get tired of hearing them but my record players gonna wear out soon, lol!
Smoke on the water or Lazy or My woman from Tokyo next
Group's signature sound featured keyboards up front, as loud as the guitars.
If you like energy like this, do Space Truckin next.
Your channel deserves so much succes. You are a natural and your instincts are great.
She’s also very fit indeed.
Stace, you exuded a younger sister loving a band I just discovered myself and wanna introduce to someone that comes to mind first. The fact that she loved it as much as I did, made the experience doubly special!
God bless you you will be okay your a beautiful person all good things will come your way!!
One of my all time favorites since teenage years.. Thanks for reacting to it and in such an immersive way! God bless you!
🎸🎸 .. I am going to make a recommendation for you Stacey.
The band is RUSH.
The song is "Spirit Of The Radio"
..
they are another amazing Rock band from the 70s.
This is a must for getting on the highway
Thank you!
Outasight! Groovy. Yep, that was the 70's.
Kickass song that opens every live show😂❤😂. My first video of this sing is of 3 of us heading through the crowd getting as close to the stage as we could get😂😂❤❤my friend and I love our Perfect Stranger John❤who made our experience once in a lifetime 😂😂❤❤
It brings tears to my eyes seeing young people react to the music I grew up with.
DP is the ultimate Rock phenomenon
Sound track to my teens , Purple , Sabbath , Floyd , Hawkwind , Genesis , and a few others 😀 , luv it 👍
I love your reaction videos!!
The audio is from the studio version.
