I’m a 65 year old guy, and this song still makes me cry.
I’m so glad I grew up in the time I did…
Love to see young people explore the real stuff, no autotunes or effects, pure musicianship soley
Amén
Yeah explore, more like guided by people with music culture. These kids today wouldn't know anything good if it smacked them in their empty heads.
You took the words right out of my mouth!!
imagin for the new generation rap is genios jaja
Just another reason way us older people who grew up with this music don't care for most of the music nowadays.
I totally agree with you! 🤘👍
there is great music these days too but more crap too...
Born in 86 will never trade those old songs for new ones.
There are new metal gods but those titans will always be there as the forefathers of it all !
You make me laugh the generation before this said this music was crap compared to 1940's/50's music eg Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra , Elvis etc
They were wrong of course !
Plenty of wonderful music around now .Just as there was plenty of crap music back then.
This track is one of the greatest ever of course.
AGREED
IAN GILLIAN one of the Premier vocalist of all time!!!
Yeah, arguably the most emotive voice in all of rock.
And the best vocalist to do Jesus Christ Super Star
He was great back in the day. I saw them 3 years ago and his voice is shot
They say he entered a room and said "Hello everyone", and right then all the ladies' panties would just drop to the floor. Nobody knew how he did it, but it just happened.
@@th-bc3hn The best performance of 'Gethsemane' I have ever heared and seen is from Steve Balsamo, live at Ahoy Hall Holland 2004
After the Beatles came Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath, and music was changed forever.
Don't forget the cool cat named Jimi Hendrix. He graced us with his presence and left a major impression on music world.
You nailed it!
And The Rolling Stones in 1969-1974 when Muck Taylor was on guitar!!!!
King Crimson.🗿

I’m my humble opinion this is the greatest rock song ever written. It has everything plus more. Brilliant musicians.
In my humble opinion Stargazer is the best
@@symbiosisai In my humble opinion these 2 are in no way comparable.
My Personal one would be Bohemian Rhapsody cause it is just more art than this piece of brilliance ( and i like it more of course )
Brilliant musicians and song yes.
Like my hippie metal more black sabbathy. Imho
Can you imagine It's 1970 I'm 14 years old and I'm hearing this for the first time WOW and it's still my favorite Hard Rock song of all time......
It's 1970 and I'm 20 years old...just as astounding...
It's 1970, I'm 10. My parents listen to Nana Mouskouri, and the likes, but friends and I find this (and other rock) on LP.
I was 15 when I bought it in 1970, I had the same experience.
Same
We are exactly the same age and I feel exactly like you, but I love the Made in Japan version better though…played that album to death…nothing close to that was ever made since
I’m 68.... never gets old ...Great musicians
Robert, I'm 75 and no it never does not. I spend a lot of time in the past.
Im 60 was always into this music , love the young ones liking it shows how good the music is , also the music was so good it was about the music no distractions
This song still to this day still gives me chills every time I hear it.
Me too ... Shivering down my spine
Yes it's amazing 🤩
,.... A N D SOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITING ❤🎉😮😊 BERNIE GERMANY 😊
Gillan gets his screams even higher in the made in Japan version.
Made in Japan probably is the best live LP ever !
And even higher on the original LP from 1970.
A6
@@havenoname123 pure power!
Already in 1985 Gillan was no more able to scream the third screaming part. When I saw them on their Perfect Strangers-Tour after reunion, they didn't play CiT . I saw them 3 times since then, he never coped again. On later tours he sang two times the second part, or sometimes Morse lets "sing" his guitar the high notes of the third part.
And if you think that it is a live performance in 1970, when auto tune didn't exist, you realise that this is even more amazing.
There's iconic singers then there's mr gillian. He doesn't sing. He speaks the words of the gods. He was and always will be the pinnacle of musicians
Vocalist is Ian Gillan, one of the best voices in modern rock. These boys from back in the day basically invented modern rock music.
modern Rock? we are in 2021....
Not modern rock. Heavy metal pioneers
You’d think this was a Led Zep video 😂
@@jackcooper3307 In my opinion Deep Purple and The Who run rings around Led Zeppelin, but then everybody is different. I also rate Ian Gillan and Roger Daltrey in front of Robert Plant.

Incredible performance.
INSANE... WOW

Yes that's for sure but what else would it be , it's PURPLE !!!!
I love it, for me this best song I ever heard especially this live version cause of Ian’s vocals and Jon Lord’s keyboard skills the whole band rocks
What a line up, Blackmore, Gillan, Lord, Glover and Paice. This track made me fall in love with heavy rock as a lad - could not concentrate on the track because you are so stunning - great work!!
Steve Morse Isabel the best...
🕯️ that song goes deep 🕯️
the performance was incredible
🕯️and speaks for itself 🕯️
with a deep message against the war and for peace and freedom🕯️
One of the most important songs ever
This is one of the greatest rock songs ever written if not the greatest. It is flawless in every aspect.
What they did in the ' 70s is stronger than a nuclear explosion. My father, like his generation, got us kids hooked on this music. For which I am grateful to my father that I love this music. Gillan's voice is inimitable: it is unlikely that metalheads can compete with the way he sang. Jon Lord-with his inimitable charisma and love of organ music and classical music: became the modern Johann Sebastian Bach in rock music. Bright memory to him.
Well, Ronnie James Dio says hello. And no, Jon Lord was a lot things - but never did he even saw the planet in the system in that JSB lived. Compared to him basically ALL modern writers look like 2-year old ones who cry some stuff. Period.
JL was a superb man, who wrote extremly great songs... also the performance was - puh... (and i am a great DP fan. And CiT is one of the greatest songs of the 20th century) But you are blinded by fanboyism... Also DP were not so good in most of their live-performances... True monsters were AC DC and Queen. Esp. ACDC is just the tightest and best performing live band on this planet. And with their lead singer Queen rocked all the time. Just because of Mercury. (but the others were also superb musicians)...
@@AlbertEinsteinSpock Nope i am myself a BIG Deep Purple fan, but they are WAY behind Queen or ACDC... And i have Made in Japan. One of the best albums you could find.
In his prime Gillan was a beast. This line-up was spectacular to watch. Loved those protracted solos with Ritchie and Jon Lord going toe to toe.
Had a kick seeing Rebaka's reaction to the screaming parts of Ian Gillan. The first time she heard the scream, she was kinda in disbelief. Then when Ian followed this up with another scream, an octave higher, she was close to pulling her hair. 😂😂😂
Thank you.:)

This is my fav Deep Purple song. In fact, this is in my top 5 fave songs ever. Love it! Gillian and Blackmore ❤️
My favourite Deep Purple song. About 1978 - 79, my cousin gave me one of my first vinyl albums, Made in Japan. Still one of the best albums ever ✌💙
All the top rock bands of this era were amazing.
That's what I tell the younger people asking who and which band was the best. Went to over 100 Concerts in the seventies. I tell them all those guys we're damn good.
Thanks for respecting the song, not interrupting or adding your soundtrack. But your facial expressions are priceless and they tell everything.
In my humble opinion....Deep purple THE GREATEST ROCK BAND EVER EXISTED!@!❤❤❤❤
agree best purple of all time of 19 centurey
I seen the PERFECT STRANGERS tour in 1985 with this band's original line up & it was an AWESOME SHOW!!!
Lucky you!

Its very emotional for me to watch someone be blown away and appreciate that brilliant masterpiece
Their album " Live In Japan " is great !!! 🎸🤙
Do you mean “Made in Japan”?

One of the greatest tracks and a anti-war theme, try Black Sabbath War Pigs if you have not heard it,
Kinda love when you do the pouty lip during the song as you're wondering "How can music this amazing even exist?"
There are no words to say, just listen and enjoy this deep purple . 💯💜
The studio version on 'In Rock' is the ultimate experience.
Especially if you check out the longer version (about 5 minutes and 54 seconds long) with the insane introductory guitar solo that was edited out of the shorter version (about 4 minutes and 25 seconds long, maybe).
@@glennhecker4422 ?? :-) which version do you mean? The original song is 10:20 and the guitar-solo takes something about 2 1/2 minutes.
Are there versions I've never heared?
@@tomschmidt4355 There's a 10:20 studio version? Damn! Until just months ago, I'd only ever heard the edited version that's about 4:25 long, and then on UA-cam I came across the version with the crazed guitar intro, and that's about 5:54 long. Is the 10:20 version live or studio?
@@glennhecker4422 On the original studio-recording on 'Deep Purple in Rock' from 1970 the track is 10:14. The upload here on youtube ist some seconds longer, but last seconds no sounds any more ua-cam.com/video/PfAWReBmxEs/v-deo.html
'Well done funny girl' yeah this is an all time classic, no one can repeat this performance, store this in your never to be opened until I die memory box.. Long live DP!!!
All from Deep Purple it's - FOREVER!
Hi Rebeka, its so nice to see someone so young and pretty (can I say that?) appreciate this ancient classic song (almost as ancient as me) but I do agree this is such an amazing song. It has been one of my favourites for many years. It showcases Ian Gillan's incredible voice and his passion and interpretation. All the musicians perform incredibly well here, such a joy.
Thank you.:)

I was a teenager when this came out, Deep Purple In Rock was and still is a classic album. Gotta love the Purps!
I loved watching your reaction to this monumental track. One of the greatest from the "rock and roll years "
I was born '79. My older brother who was born '71 forced me to listen to Purple, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Wasp, Kiss, Floyd etc when I was about 8.
He forced sometimes with brotherly violence.
Locked me in his room with these playing LOUD from his LP's.
I'm grateful for him. I really am.
And we both are grateful to our oldest brother, who was born '66.
Your expression when Ian started singing was priceless. Soothing voice.
Those facial expressions by Rebeka are fire !!!
Thank you.:)
Some of them effect me in strange ways 😅😂
This great English band playing in front of a very England audience of that time!
They were told to be quiet, by the producers!
Actually think it was in Germany
British classic rock... there’s nothing better 🇬🇧

Great rabbit hole to fall into. I'll usually watch DP reaction videos. All 7 songs on In Rock deserve reaction vids.
Ian gillan's voice is out of this world. Great reaction rebeka!!. Lovely video! ❤
You had my 16 year old sons expression during the screams, 12 years on he gets it.
The 69-73 line up of Deep Purple is the most talented line in rock & roll.
Rebeka’s reaction is just like the live audience and everyone else’s the first time . No one had ever heard anything like it before . Look at the audience , they are mesmerized . It’s not just a song , it’s a mind blowing composition that will never be equaled .
Thank you for experiencing and reviewing this, one of the finest pieces of music ever to be put together with the voice of Ian Gillan, doesn't matter how long ago, some music is timeless!🙂
This has been my favorite band for almost 40 years. I've heard this stuff countless time in my life. Gillan's voice still sends chills up my spine even chokes me up at times. Blackmore! I don't care who came before or after him, in my book he is the best. He influenced so many famous guitarist that came after him and countless others. Paice is the best drummer in my book.
Don’t forget about John Lord. He is a God on the organ
THE best voice in rock no contest. Purple were the ultimate players, BEATLES ultimate writers.
SPOT on, no contest! Agree regarding Purple/Beatles too!
Both John and Paul were better singers than Ian Gillan. Ian was great on this song but that's about it.
Great singers both of them! But if you think Ian was great on this but nothing else makes me wonder how much more of his singing you've heard. You don't even like him in Jesus Christ Superstar?
@@davidantonacci9525 John and Paul were not on the same planet as Gillan with there singing, I loved the Beatles but Gillan was/is far superior
@@davidantonacci9525 Ian Gillan had incredible technique controls power and range.
Paul McCartney had a fantastic voice and was a superior technician to John.
Gillan was another level, he could have been a baritone or tenor opera singer. He hammered his voice singing tracks with insane vocals only he could sing.
Jesus Christ superstar has been mentioned 1970 so I would listen to that. 'I only want to say,' is something else.
in one of my highschool english classes we listened to and reviewed an album that had just come out, Jesus Christ Superstar. I was blown away by one of the vocalists. Later to find out he had recently become the lead singer for Deep Purple. I think my reation and probably facial expressions were probably a lot like yours listening to this now
A classic masterpiece of Deep Purple.
One of best songs and performances in history.
You always react to great songs.
I remember the first time I heard this and being shocked by those unreal, primal vocals amid all the incredible musicianship.
My mom almost kicked me out of the house in 1980 when I blasted this song.
Your reaction says it all!! It is simply the prove that this music will live on forever and will surprise many more!! Glad you agreed on the outstanding performance of these guys - RIP Jon Lord, you will never be forgotten!
Thank you.:)
Obviously the high notes get the attention but I love your reaction to his gentler moments in the build up. The sounds he produces in those quieter sections are just so perfect it makes your mind melt. Such an amazing voice.
With that video, you're witnessing the beginnings of an entire genre of music. That likely explains the rather stunned looks on the faces of the audience. That was probably the first time a lot of them had seen or heard heavy metal and I imagine there was a fair amount of "What the hell did we just watch?"
That high note was an A5 for those of you playing at hone.
50 years ago and still this song is just as brilliant. That German audience didn't know what hit them. It was a fantastic time to be young, especially if you appreciated progressive rock. Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Moody Blues, 10cc, Barclay James Harvest, The Who, Black Sabbath, Peter Frampton, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Doors, - The list is endless and I bought and enjoyed it all. I was 22 when this came out. Probably the most creative time ever for music. We were blessed to be part of it.
Great comment. I often thank God for letting me be a teenager in the Seventies. It was a magical time of creation. Many of the Artists you mentioned in another 100 years will be considered the Mozart's and Beethoven's of their time. The popularity of some will be forgotten and the cream will rise to the top. Some of those guys we're also great poets and just some of the lyrics will be studied I am sure of it.
It wasn’t a German audience. It was recorded at the Granada TV studios in Manchester, England.
The audience was told to keep still & silent because it was being recorded live.
Try not to blink and you may spot a young man in a pink T shirt sitting quietly in the audience at the back. His name was George Best.
Ian Gillan & George Best were good friends.
one of the best rock song of all times 😎👍🎶
Thank you for the reaction, chickadee. Anyone reacting with such passion to Deep Purple deserves at least a subscription. So, I am now a proud subscriber to your channel. Greetings and well-wishes from Belgium.

I love how the group is so still!! How could they be?!! They did not know what to do with them and their very brand new sound! Man I would have been dancing around all over the place!!
Masterpiece!!!! 💙👶🧭🎸
I have a lot of emotional content when it comes tom Deep Purple and this song in particular. I was 14 and dating a girl from a different High school. We went to a concert because she wanted to see the Turtles(2nd opener on a 3 band bill(Happy Together)). I'd heard one song on the radio(hush) but otherwise knew nothing, it was 1968 and it was their first US tour. The turtles were good, but Deep Purple blew my mind and I was never the same. I didn't know you could make a sound like that with a guitar. And Ian Paice(drummer ) played left handed(WTF? Phil Collins is also a lefty). This was from the "In Rock" album and was about Vietnam(like much of rock back then. I missed going to Vietnam by 13 numbers(the draft was a lottery, yearly by birthdate,1 to 365. I was 49 that year, but Nixon ended the draft at 36). At the same time I heard this song....and yeah. Anyway...back then it was the "Terrible Three". The Who, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple. Of the 3 only Deep Purple persists in a meaningful way. Still Ian Gilliam on vocals and still the amazing(I'm a drummer) Ian Paice on drums. To experience Ian Paice's groove I highly recommend this one, it's the only youtube version I could find(no vid), but this is the best version, and I'm pretty sure it will want to make you get up and shake your ass, Rasarita's Cantina(a real place):ua-cam.com/video/fokQxkvKpGY/v-deo.html
For a small island in between the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, we have provided the world with some awesome music.
So, being almost 51 years old, obviously I know who Deep Purple is, and of course, I know the handful of iconic songs by them. But, one day, watching that VH1 Classic show called, "That Metal Show" they had a top 10 of best vocalist moments, and Ian Gillian popped up. Jim Florentine, who had him at the top of his list, quoted this particular song (which I had never heard of) and said it sounds like somebody dying or being murdered....
Whatever he said, it definitely piqued my curiosity, especially when he picked Ian as his top vocalist when other singers like Rob Halford and Geoff Tate were in the mix, I HAD TO hear this song, and I came across the exact same video you just reacted to, and I was like "Holy Fuck".......What????
What an experience sharing that with you. Thanks for the reaction, ReBeka.
