This is sad and the idols acting gay on stage and people being okay with it, yet having difficulty in accepting gay people in real life does not make sense. Any one hating on someone based on their color or sexual orantaion says a lot about the hater and not the other way around.

Right. I kinda see this in the media in the west too, tbh. Straight guys LOVE getting pleasure out of seeing girls kiss and do sexual things with each other, but the second it comes to actual wlw relationships, they switch up so bad. They see us as nothing but a p0rn category and It’s very frustrating.

I'm from Kazakhstan. Kazakhs are also Asian and our culture of shame is quite high. Society is homophobic, so the LGBT community exists in the shadows. Extremely rarely do relatives or parents perceive coming out positively. If we talk about extremes, it's exorcism, sometimes corrective rape, violence. When I told my mom, the most censored response was that such people would be better off dead. Most lesbians get married and have children because there is no future and we have a lot of family pressure. So now I'm desperately pretending that I want to start a family with a man for my own safety. I plan to leave the country.

Some people think lesbians need normal sex, apparently rape is a crime. I knew one girl, when her father found out she was a lesbian, he took her to some relatives and locked her in a room. Then a man came to her all the time and raped her.

it's the same in Ukraine... i dont know why everyone(irl) from a child to an elder is homophobic. especially the adults who were born in the USSR. i have noticed that English-speaking Ukrainians are more open-minded because i guess it's easier to educate yourself on these topics if you know English. though knowing English ≠ not homophobic. i must confess that i was a homophobe, racist, transphobe in the past and im not proud of that. i dont know what exactly helped me to stop being like that. maybe because i was seeing a lot of videos of different people who id never meet in my town. they would tell their stories online and id think something like "what's the point of hating someone just because they're like this?". i wish more people over the world were much more understanding. especially men

It’s interesting to see that being skinny is such an important part of Korean lesbian culture. I feel like in the states it’s not necessarily like that. Of course, people have preferences and there is still a lot of fat phobia present in our society as a whole. But I feel like people here put a little more focus on who the person is rather than what their size is. Or at least from my experience.

We definitely benefit from being in an active community and see how diverse, accepting and wide the queer community is. Our community is very diverse(race, background, culture, language, size), where as Korea is quite less so and often people don't interact with the other alphabets, from what I can see.

I think the yonsei gays kinda reflect even just regular Korean dating style with how descriptive they were about looks. So that was interesting!
In the US and I would generalize the west, there is a difference between masculinity, femininity and man, woman. Being butch doesn’t mean you’re a man, just more masculine. There are feminine men but that doesn’t make them women. I can understand your friends complicated feelings with certain terms but that only bc from my pov, that way of thinking is from years ago in my country.

In America, we do have fems (feminine women) and mascs (masculine women). We also have ‘butch’, which is a very masculine woman who usually does some form of hard labor lol at least that’s the stereotype, but like, imagine a masculine lesbian construction worker, and you got yourself a butch. There are also ‘stems,’ which are people who present masc AND fem. There are androgynous lesbians and their style doesn’t have a label of masc or fem, they are just them. And people looking for sexual partners may put in their bios that they are a ‘top’ which is someone who likes to do all the work if you know what I mean. And ‘bottom,’ someone who is more ~submissive~ Hopefully s korea will be more open to lgbtq soon. It wasn’t as free to be gay in America 10 years ago so keep hope alive! Thank you for answering my question, Kelsey!! I find it so interesting how private(?) these resources seem to be. I live in the U.S. and while every LGBT center is different, my local one is open to everyone in the area. They have free counseling service, a good pantry, support groups, and other programs, all free and welcoming. But it sounds like ones in Korea are harder to access if you don't have someone referring you. I don't know if this is really accurate, it just sounds like it's harder for LGBTQ people in Korea to find community resources and support outside of online spaces.

*The Painter Of The Wind* is a 2008 drama I watched recently which features a very strong LGBTQ+ theme, especially for its time; it's a historical drama based on a book that was very very loosely based on the life and paintings of traditional painter Shin Yun Bok, where the female lead has to pretend to be a man to be a painter, and there's a love story between her and another woman that, even if not perfect (there are other romantic plotlines between the FL and men that I personally didn't like, even if I get why they're there, and it has an ambiguous ending), I feel like was especially progressive for the time, and is genuinely beautiful story regardless. The two women are undoubtedly in love, and their poetic flirting is A+++.
Sol and Ji-Wan was another couple I felt like was handled quite well, and was one of the highlights of *Nevertheless*. I've heard some good things about a canonically lesbian character in *Mine* as well, but the drama wasn't my vibe unfortunately. I loved the LGBTQ+ plotlines, especially involving the transgender character, in *Itaewon Class*. *SF8: Joan's Galaxy* is a sapphic sci-fi episode special I've been longing to get my hands on for a longggg time.
In *Because This Is My First Life*, I felt like there were two scenes in particular I got a potentially bisexual feeling from the female lead, where she's briefly attracted to another woman, and admits to as much onscreen. I feel like at least one of the secondary leads in *Search:WWW* was heavily coded as bisexual ("catching you before you fall into traffic" trope and everything). *Run On* (asexual secondary character and gay minor character), *Her Private Life* (even if there are no actual sapphic characters, I liked the support shown in a misunderstanding... Ryan Gold, Lesbian Protector In Theory⚔️), *Romance Is A Bonus Book* (the sapphic ex of the ML makes an appearance), and *Extraordinary Attorney Woo* (actual lesbians, for one episode), I feel like I have to credit for their progressive feel.
In terms of films, *The Handmaiden* is an erotic thriller, and one of my personal favourite pieces of media ever, which heavily features one if the most beautiful and poetic lesbian romance. *Kill Boksoon* is a violent action film that features a sapphic plotline between the younger characters. I intend on watching *Moonlit Winter* at some point.
I hope the upcoming *Jeong Nyeon* (which apparently explores gender and sexuality as a core theme) and *Pyramid Game* (which I felt like was heavily queercoded) webcomic adaptations are good, and don't try to avoid the LGBTQ+ themes in their original storylines. I hope more dramas and films will take risks in the future. I feel like there are legions of us who will keep these dramas and films circulating forever when they're made well.

The FL is in the women's bathroom when she drops her earring, and his ex puts it back on for her. She later remembers the moment and starts blushing and talking about her sexual frustration. I can't remember which episode it was in, but somewhere nearer the end of the drama.

In Argentina is fifty fifty with the slangs. Some queer women do use fem or masc to specify more and others just say that they´re plain queer without feeling more masculine or femenine 🖤.

This whole video was so interesting, thanks for sharing!! I have read some BLs and wow... There is so much difference in quality. One thing that I really hated was that consent was like sooooo not respected. I've had to drop a lot of BLs cuz they were batshit crazy or forgot the actual plot for some xx scenes which aren't my favorite. I have found that it gets away from the "dumb heroine" stereotype that I hated.
Also not important buuuttt Exo is gen 2? 😆 Aren't they are gen 3 lol. If we are doing SM boy groups it would be DBSK, SHINee, then Exo 😛

Here's some info about lesbians in the west I've collected as a lesbian in the U.S. (if it helps!)
Butch and femme are used a lot
There are tops and bottoms (like where they physically are in spicy moments, people who do both are called switches)
There are also dommes and subs (where they are mentally, domme has most power and sub has little both in and out of the bedroom, people who do both are called vers [I think]. Dommes and subs are usually confused with tops and bottoms)
Body size (at least in my experience) is not cared about but I've seen many women admire buff ladies or curvy ladies
There are straight-passing lesbians (mentioned in video)
also so many different subtypes of lesbians and I feel I forgot a lot of other stuff but here's stuff I see with many lesbians here:
    carabiners
    subaru outback cars
    undercuts in hair
    uhauls
    i cant think of any more ;-;

Lately quite a few idols have been seen hanging out with or meeting openly LGBTQ+ people and idk why nobody is talking about it - like Yeonjun with Holland, Ateez with Pungja, etc. (I understand Knetz would not want to talk about it but international fans usually would be talking so much about it!!)

I found this word and it seems like some sort of slang but even on korean youtube wlw content comes up. Have you seen this word? 레즈

"Buchi" (butsi) in Philippines is a ball of dough, filled with sweet bean paste, rolled in sesame seeds, deep fried and served as dessert lol
Also in slang terms for lesbians & gay men:
    Philippines
(boomer generation, mostly my mom and her lesbian friends how they reference to each other and others):
"Tibo" or "tomboy' (for full or somewhat masculine appearance)
But there doesn't seem to be a slang term the girlie really feminine lesbians for some reason or maybe it was just never mentioned around me :P
"AC/DC" (Universal term for being bi-sexual, regardless if man or woman)
There are slang terms for gay men but it depends on context of who's saying it but for the most part it's mostly derogatory because Philippines is very patriarch based (at least when I was living there, idk now) so I'm omitting it.
    Murica'
(Gen X, old ex roomies that were gf/gf's):
    "Butch" (anytime they appear masculine)
"Lipstick" (if they're really feminine girly)
"Bi or bisexual" (The person would usually say "I'm a bisexual [insert gender]" when referencing to their sexuality)
(From my boomer & millennial male gay friends)
"Twink" - usually the younger skinny males, they usually look like the characters from a Yaoi manga
"Bear" - think of Zangief from street fighter
    "Cub" - Zangief but younger
    "top" - dominant
    "bottom" - submissive
"switch" - can perform either dom or sub
Granted it might be different now since these terms were before 1990's and early 2000's and a lot has changed or updated since then :D

4:10 My first thought was Hongdae...
But I guess it's still discreet...
Must be worse outside of the main cities, like Seoul, Busan, Daegu...
10:11 Little sidetrack, but what about ecology?
I'm just curious he he ^^
10:36 I'm not really surprised with this, I feel like it's similar in a lot of countries on this specific point.
11:16 I know that in Japan the oldest in a same sex couple can adopt their partner to have some rights on succession and everything, it's quite disturbing at first sight, but somehow pretty smart, and I was wondering if there was something similar going on in South Korea...?
11:32 When it comes to Kdrama, Soljiwan forever ♡
There's quite a few lesbian couples in movies, as far as I know, are they good representation though, that's debatable I think...
13:04 Does it have anything to do with heritage, lineage, family name, something along those lines, ect...?
15:40 I'm actually genuinely intrigued by this, must have some similarities with the rest of the world, yet some particularities related to the Korean culture...
20:30 I think It's a pretty common thing, at least it's mostly the same where I'm from ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for your take. For the record, while I definitely do not consider extreme slimness to be a beauty standard for the majority of American lesbians, I think it's much more popular among American bisexual women. Lesbian beauty standards here tend to favor more muscular, "butch" aesthetics, but many bisexual women are more fond of "girly girls." I personally fall into the latter camp.

I can understand the close mind of societies but to limit entry to the opposite sex from entering is quite mindboggling. Mind you certain bars/clubs have specified Ladies/Men's (exclusive) nights. Law's have been passed here that you cannot have a bar exclusive to one sex or another. Coming from the first official open gay community within a set district in North America (french Canada). Our attitude has always been one of inclusivity (as to better understand) their preferences and the misconceptions that others have. It's funny that the similarities between your upbringing and mine (and many around me) as were raised Catholic, went to Catholic schools and had to attend church. But now as a society (and the government) we have become secular (we have quite a bit of bad blood towards the Church)

15:48 no it's not true in the West or at least not where I am in FL but it's prob more of a thing w/ white lesbians who only date other white lesbians. Is there a lot of issues between Bi women and lesbian women in Korea??? In the U.S. a lot of lesbians don't like bisexual women and kind of tend to talk down on them or tell them they don't really belong to our community, it's kinda fucked up. I don't think like that and I am a lesbian but I identified as pansexual for most of my 20s and even I would get hate from certain lesbians in the US but once I realized that I was as gay as the day is long and only interested in women, I changed my label and all of the sudden, no more issues.

6:38 I'm sorry that so many hateful Christians (and some will be something in the LGBT+ community, but this is mainly from straight/cisgender people) have gotten their way and made things so hard for you and others across the world. I'm sorry anyone did, but I am a Christian (United Church of Christ, and I go to a church that is something called Open and Affirming, which is to different extents for each church and person there LGBT+ inclusive and affirming). It's been painful and still is painful to see how too many people who are Christian or just use it want to hurt people in the LGBT+ community.
There is a difference between being scared it is a sin and also not understanding everything and being out for blood. So many people are in the out-for-blood category and it's paired with so many controversies, like the sexual abuse scandals and so many of these people not waiting until marriage or getting to do things that are seen as sinful or once were. They cling to the theological and social reform that benefits them.
You deserve to feel safe and cared for. As a straight/cisgender UCC Christian who has trauma from all of this too, I am so sorry.

Kelsey, so this is why JY from Twice with her short hair was labeled a ‘girl crush’?
Yet it seems to me that SA plays the feminine lesbian, almost to exhaustion.
Question, is this all by design?
JY is the girl crush and SA is the femi lesbian?? BTW I think it’s all an act.
Also why after all these years we don’t see Twice members date, or in any long term relationships? Their first contract is up and they are 25 years old. As a fan who is getting old I’d like to live long enough to see them have a family.
I believe a good relationship would help with mental health issues. I was so heartbroken when JY took her time out, and also MI?
Could you share your thoughts on my concerns? I just want them to be happy.
Signed, an American male ‘ONCE’ 🤠
