Really still want one of these. One device for all purposes would be amazing! Great for work, Dock for more ports then bring home and dock to the XG mobile and kick it into game mode
Thinking about the conclusions you've reached and I have to disagree a bit. You missed two really important things: the XG (as you say) is essentially unobtainable. You can get the X13 bundled with an XG but that pushes the price to US$3000 - if you can get one, but the Z13 has a Thunderbolt 4 port, while the X13 doesn't, which means the Z13 can use non-ASUS eGPU boxes while the X13 can't. That means with the Z13, you can *actually* buy as much eGPU, not theoretically, as you need AND you can use it for non-GPU uses as well (and still get XG capability if you're so inclined). In terms of colour, the screens are Pantone compliant and for many people in the design world, that's more than good enough. It makes the Z13 (and the X13) great for industrial design, especially when combined with a stylus. Colour gamut support is important in *some* visual arts, but not as much as reviewers make it out to be. The kickstand folded back to 170 or 160 degrees puts the tablet in a "studio" orientation, making it wonderful to draw on because there's almost no bounce. I have a Lenovo Flex 15 which is similar to the X13 and I basically gave up drawing on it because of the weight, shape and difficulty keeping the screen still - and it's a well built 2-in-1. As for style, other than the blinky back port - it's mostly just a black slab. You can turn off all the RGB junk and if the port bugs you, a small piece of black vinyl can fix that. Personally, I think it's fine. In fact I stuck a Weyland-Yutani Corp logo decal I made up on the back. Quick note: the Z13 supports full MPP 2.0 for pens which means it works well with Surface Pens and even supports "flip" detection (which triggers eraser mode) and eraser tip with pressure. So using it with a Surface Pen is a lot like a Surface Pro. Only oddity - there are three Surface Pens. Gen 1 was 1024 levels, Gen 2 was 4096 levels and the Gen 3 (slim) add haptic feedback. I have the first two and weirdly it doesn't seem that the Z13 maps the 1024 levels to 4096 so the Gen 1 pen writes far more lightly for the same pressure. I actually see this as a plus as I have both pens - so I use the Gen 2 for inking and sketching and the Gen 1 for fine details work.
Thanks for your review. I ordered mine in February and unfortunately they're having problems here in Germany delivering them. Another point I would say he missed is bang for money. nah forget about it. i currently owned x13 32gb variant and i'm not even video editor, and i found 16gb is not enough for heavy web browsing + heavy gaming which many people likely doing now. so this z13 is useless because of 16gb of bottle neck. it made the system more and more slower when you have more and more thing running at background. i'm actually planning to buy z13 but i'm immediately giving up when they limit the ram at 16gb.

@Umnumzaan Seems to be a trade-off on power consumption though, AMD laptops seem to get longer battery life thanks to the node refinement and other updates.

NGL The more I look at the Z13 the more I'm left wanting more to the point its kinda why I went with a late 2021 model X13 plus the 3080 dock (bought seperately) as well one 5900HS plus 3050 Ti is one hell of a nice combo to have in general, plenty of on the go power and not requiring a wall outlet to run it if you need it, granted 16GB Ram kinda sucks but overall with a 120Hz 1200p screen and a price of I think £1150 its a relative bargain compared to the newer 2022 refresh and the Z13 in terms of pricing and still has the majority of the performance, despite costing for me at least a third less than a 2022 Z13 or X13. Throw in a 3080 in the XG mobile and well at £2400 altogether I have a monster of a machine when I have a power outlet and an external monitor not to mention an actual laptop that can stand on its two legs, has better battery life than the Z13 and I save a buck, I just dont see a reason currently for a person in the market today to buy the newer models for how much more they cost for how little a performance bump you get, honestly the only reason to go 2022 is if a MUX switch is non negotiable as mosty of the other 'new' features are now on the 2021 Version of the X13.
also were your gaming results on the screen on the laptop or an external monitor as the lack of the MUX switch in the Flow X13 2021 Model can skew youre results unfairly if noy taken into account
I bought this a week ago without the XG mobile and it is very impressive machine. I used an Alienware m17 r3 i7 6820hk before and it is a massive upgrade. The RTX 3050ti can hold itself quite well in games when plug into power at turbo mode. Battery life is definitely not impressive but do note for regular office workload and web browsing, the machine is more than adequate for battery life. In battery gaming, it is definitely a bit lacking in power but since I carry a 60w output powerbank with me, it's an non issue. What makes this machine interesting is probably the potential of XG mobile solely for GPU work and the machine cooling can handle a maxed out i9 12900h at 5ghz turbo. A lot of todays mobile device in raw power won't match this and Asus coming out with something like this is impressive. I also used a surface pro 3 before and the keyboard is pretty much just as good with RGB lightning. Given I also carry an iPad Pro 12.9' around, i can have similar screen size dual screen with both device and the z13 can charge up the ipad pro sufficiently. Overall it is one impressive form factor + power combo which no one in the market has and definitely deserves the premium pricing.
@@nameless_stranger I had the z13 for maybe 3-4 weeks now and the temps are amazing, I have awesome clock speed and can run battlefield 2042 without any problem (between 60-80fps with the integrated 3050 ti). Temps are around 70c maximum. Maybe on other brand laptop the cpu will be hot as hell but the cooling on the z13 is amazing so far.
I love this laptop but idk If I can bring myself to use this during like a school or coffee shop environment. I wish they would like roll out a much sleeker redesign.
Some infos telling that Z13 has issues with Thunderbolt eGPU. When it works, it works. When it's not, the randomness makes the owner pulling out heir hair.
not recognizing the keyboard after sleep might be a win 11 problem. I had the same problem on my lenovo duet 3i after win 11 upgrade which went away after going back to win 10
Just ordered the non gpu Z13 which is perfect all the cooling just for the Cpu, all in need when away from my desk, when home plug into the Gpu why pay for two gpus!! For the Same price as a loaded behemoth laptop you get this way more cooler and better looking rig! I will have mine on a stand in tablet mode in dual screen with a 25 inch monitor, going to look awesome without the keyboard hanging down!
There’s a small mistake in the video the flow z13 weighs 1,1kg not 1,8 and in the comparison to the surface 8pro you wrote that 0,6lbs is 1kg and that’s hella wrong
I love the product but...4k€ can buy A LOT of things nowadays...great review btw :). (I edit because the price is for europe for those who dont leve over here hahaha)
I appreciate your consistently fair reviews. They are a great combination of experiential use and performance tests. I watched a video on this from another outlet that said it was simply better than the latest Surface Pro. They aren't really intended for the same audience.
I don't want a gaming tablet. I don't want a tablet that can barely run Notepad. I want a tablet I can do work on. Can I get something powerful but not gaudy and doesn't cost a damned fortune?
They should include a little magnetic cover for the window, and a sensor to disable the LED's when it's installed. I actually really like that, it would be more awesome if the power delivery was behind the window though. I'd rock it, but I don't really like ASUS products...
If they can tone down the design language, make the screen more color accurate, offer 32gb of ram, and give it a full size sd card reader… I can’t think of a more perfect device for photography professionals who also game.
I would totally carry that around with an extra portable monitor the XG mobile dock and a 60% keyboard stashed away in my laptop bag. But i can't even imagine having anywhere near that much money to spend 😰
Fantastic video, sir! I can't wait to see the next evolution of this product. I love the design and the colors, but between the top-spec'd discrete GPU of the 3050ti and the horrendous battery life, I think I will continue to pass for now.
Sounds like my dream laptop! I play jrpg games mainly like ff9, chronocross, ni no kuni thats not intensive. Occasionally i play more intensive games like forza. Being in tablet mode i can play on my bed comfortably. Also love that theres TB4 which is a musthave for me. BUT… im gonna wait for another year or 2 to get 1. It seems like performance wise it needs more work and the XG availability is quite bad, i will just wait and see what happens. Maybe the next 1 or 2 gens would be absolutely perfect!
This form factor for games? You either want a nice desktop or a steam deck style handheld. This thing is weak at home, clunky portable, and for anything inbetween a regular laptop with these specs is a better choice. The trash active pen kinda negates it as a Wacom mobile studio, Samsung Galaxy 360 or Surface pro competitor.
I was thinking of buying a tab s8 ultra but I might as well get this. I am buying a tablet and I might as well get a full fledged windows one. I dont wanna keep carrying my gaming laptop everyday for even basic tasks and programinng, android productivity apps dont cut it either. Hopefully, an i9 without a dgpu will be available since I can just use my msi if I need graphical power. Undervolting the cpu (cause intel) and having a higher power allocation due to no dgpu will definitely show its true compute performance.
well when u consider u can get the 3080 mobile for £1100 here in the uk (ebay new) and the z13 id £1699 for highest spec and the razer blade 15 3080ti is £3899 id go for the flow.. more utility.
I want this thing so bad but the availability of XG Mobile just keeps holding me back. Nobody wants to buy this and end up using it just like a surface.
So 2006 is considered retro? Man I'm getting old :D I can see that the designer was a stargate fan :D I wish they would add a white-cyan version, this would be a great option.
Iv done a lot of testing on the 120hz 3050 … its really baaad .. in terms of gaming guys 1st when ever you wants to move and pick it up once you bend it a little game discount i know you can freeze the rotation as well ..or play games on windowed mode .. 2nd when you pull screen out of the keyboard some games get disconnected.. and in some games idk if its Manafacutre issue only on my flow z13 .. but graphics is a bit blurry And in some old classic game which num keyboard is must to play with the z13 doesn’t have it on the keyboard ..in conclusion its not ready yet for gaming for normal use and Netflix ya ..
I don’t get it, why would you play AAA games without being connected to the brick? That’s the selling point of this but makes no sense if you have to be on a desktop near to the connector to play if that’s the case just buy a powerful laptop with 2 screens and now you have a tablet too The only real difference I see from this to other common gaming laptops is the rear camera
@@NVGEAR it’s not something I would be bringing into a meeting. Compared to the Surface Pro 8 it’s a bit too flashy for business setting. Other wise I really think they would have a winner.
With the egpu it makes sense, without it it ain’t good enough. Wish they went with amd for this tho. Totally agree with what u said about design, it’s cool but not for an everyday carry. Specially for something i would take to a meeting room and such
I'd absolutely carry something like this. Most of my "serious" workflow is all on Apple, so my ipad + Macbook air. This would be a fun toy for those downtime moments or personal use.
i got the x13 few months ago, battery suddenly not charging, last day can return, then picked up the z13; for gaming, z13 will be better coz u don't have the keyboard, doesn't matter how good laptop keyboard is, still not ideal; just use the screen hock up a full size keyboard to play, or plug it to a monitor, take up less space; only complain is the Windows 11... really hated it... especially the combine tab... waiting for 3080ti on the xg mobile
Best option would be to get amd with igpu only, RDNA 2 is enough for lot of task if you need more power external GPU would be best to opt for. 1500 usd is kind of expensive through 😅😅
This is slightly puzzling to me. It seems all the comparison is against laptops, when errr, this is a tablet? Shouldn't we compare it to the most like devices which are the Surface Pro 8/9 and Huawei and other similar devices? To me, this looks like a great price point competitor to the Surface. I'd like to replace my Android tablet with a Windows one, and I'll mostly use it for productivity. Tablets are useful for their form factor, but because I'm looking to switch mine to Windows as I use it for productivity and consumption, the specs are a problem. You want plenty of RAM, a decent processor, keyboard, pen, decent storage but it's not like I'm putting games on it, and good input/output options. Since there aren't many manufacturers making detachable 2-in-1 devices, the prices often seem high. I'm definitely keeping an eye on these, particularly for next year's model, to see if it makes more sense to buy one of these than a Surface or a budget option of some kind like the Huawei Matebook E, or Lenovo X12. No, this isn't as good as a laptop for gaming. But that's chalk and cheese. You shouldn't buy a tablet unless you want the form factor, just as you should never buy a laptop if you are going to use it on your desk at home, or a smartphone to use as the landline in your house. I don't cut my food with a fork.
you said last year model of the X13 only had 1650 gpu. Thats not correct, i did launch with 1650 but was upgraded with 3050ti. i got one with 5900HS/3050TI
I don’t understand who they targeted at , portable gaming- not good enough without xgmobile which makes it not so portable, pro gaming- bad display, and finally not budget friendly and not worth paying that much for its performance. (Without xg mobile). Disappointed with the pricing.
Removeable battery design with extra battery available for sale should be the next design option for a future model of this tablet with the heart and the brain of a desktop + ASUS should design an AMD version of this tablet as well.
Honestly if you have this it completely Eliminates the need for a seperate tablet. At least if you do not need to seperate Cellular service or need to integrate texting/Imessage. If phone teathering is acceptable then this is basically your laptop AND your tablet. As a field technician my last job we had laptops AND Ipads and only needing the one device for everything would be a HUGE bonus. But if your a consumer like me who needs a portable computer but also wants something portable like an ipad for portable media consumption being able to do it all in one device is huge. This is on the high end of mobile devices but if you could afford it it seems like an amazing device IMO if you have the cash.
I believe @Jarrod'sTech confirmed that the USB 2.0 was indeed an engineering limitation. The [almost] good news is the XG Mobile has 4 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, but of course no one can find one to buy >.
You can just add black stickers such as dbrand sells to get rid of the annoying stuff and make it look like a normal black tablet. Since I like to use a mechanical keyboard, a surface gaming tablet seems like it would be good. I assume it can support a 4k ultra wide external monitor @ a reasonable refresh rate? Would be cool to vesa mount this to the rear of an ultrawide monitor.
My ideal device at a not ideal price. I'll buy one when this is at most $1,000 with a core i5, or in other words, when it becomes a commodity product. But this is the probably the penultimate form of productivity-focused mobile PCs, unless you also count a tablet that can properly dock a phone behind it like a modern Asus Padfone X with Samsung Dex. I don't believe in foldables and rollables just yet, and material science has a lot of convincing to do before I do consider them practical.
Really still want one of these. One device for all purposes would be amazing! Great for work, Dock for more ports then bring home and dock to the XG mobile and kick it into game mode

You still liking this tablet? I’m thinking of getting one but I read it has input lag and smearing in fps games.
@@kmdkmd-jz8pv x2
@@ernisama3654 if your wondering how it is input lag is a non issue. The smearing is there but I can still get 1st in warzone so it can’t be that bad.
0:09 - screw the tablet, I want to know the Watch you are wearing My man.
I have the z13 and it's awesome! For the cpu frenquency, it's easily fixable with throttlestop. I get 2ghz-3ghz stable now.
I was planning to do the same, I wish they showcased it with an undervolt applied, cause intel lol.
@@nameless_stranger why cause intel? I get awesome temps and speed.
@Philippe-Olivier Dupuis cause intel temps thats why undervolt should be a must unless the manufacturer is conservative like Razer
Commercial break at 7:05, regular programming resumes at 7:26
The last year model had a 3050ti too, Initial one had a ryzen 5000 with 1650, then ryzen 5000 with 3050ti, if anything the upcoming one is the 3rd gen
That was a Linus level sponsor transition.
By far the best, most detailed review for the ROG Z13 I've seen. I'm completely convinced now and I'll be buying one. Thank you!
Did you buy one?
Thank you for the detailed video. I ordered one. I love the design btw.
Been waiting for this review btw Great review!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the immediate future of laptop gaming! Few more years and a few iterations il buy one for sure
I have both 12500 and 12900 models and they are mindblowing
I bought the ROG phone and it is awesome
I love this laptop but idk If I can bring myself to use this during like a school or coffee shop environment. I wish they would like roll out a much sleeker redesign.
Just slap a skin on it, easy
Yeah very weird since the x13 looked much more subdued.
I love the design, it reminds me of 80s style Walkmans
Hardware Canucks ads are the only ones I don't skip
The Z13 is amazing, I wouldn't buy one myself BUT if I was 10yrs younger...
Now all they need to do is create a handheld that uses the external gpu, a steamdeck type device that can hook up to the egpu.
I am more interested in the i7 version considering the cost to value ratio…
I actually like that 2.0 port as lots of "high-end" (just expensive) peripheral devices such as my lightspeed mouse and keyboard use 2.0 dongles.
They aren't really intended for the same audience.
my friends love the design and form factor of this device and are planning on getting it.
so there is a market for it. lol
I don't want a gaming tablet. I don't want a tablet that can barely run Notepad. I want a tablet I can do work on. Can I get something powerful but not gaudy and doesn't cost a damned fortune?
I'm absolutely interested in the z13 but I would love to know how it handles music production.
2:35 Those last two SKUs have the 12700H. You have the core counts listed properly, but the thread count is 20.
Got an ROG Flow Z13 ad 😂
I’m excited for this whole class of devices to be perfectly honest
Best review of this tablet
Lol I want to buy one of these for the looks alone! That rear LED window is mind-bogglingly cool!
Love that LTT level sponsor segue! lol
well when u consider u can get the 3080 mobile for £1100 here in the uk (ebay new) and the z13 id £1699 for highest spec and the razer blade 15 3080ti is £3899 id go for the flow.. more utility.
I want this thing so bad but the availability of XG Mobile just keeps holding me back. Nobody wants to buy this and end up using it just like a surface.
I LOVE the design ! :)
They didn't use the P series processor because these are limited to 4 PCIe lanes for the GPU, whike the H series chip can use 8 PCIe Lanes
So 2006 is considered retro? Man I'm getting old :D
I can see that the designer was a stargate fan :D
I wish they would add a white-cyan version, this would be a great option.
Iv done a lot of testing on the 120hz 3050 … its really baaad .. in terms of gaming guys 1st when ever you wants to move and pick it up once you bend it a little game discount i know you can freeze the rotation as well ..or play games on windowed mode .. 2nd when you pull screen out of the keyboard some games get disconnected..
and in some games idk if its Manafacutre issue only on my flow z13 .. but graphics is a bit blurry
And in some old classic game which num keyboard is must to play with the z13 doesn’t have it on the keyboard ..in conclusion its not ready yet for gaming for normal use and Netflix ya ..
Where exactly did you incorrectly hold the keyboard that caused the crack near the pogo pins? Thanks and love your video review!!!
I don’t get it, why would you play AAA games without being connected to the brick? That’s the selling point of this but makes no sense if you have to be on a desktop near to the connector to play if that’s the case just buy a powerful laptop with 2 screens and now you have a tablet too
The only real difference I see from this to other common gaming laptops is the rear camera
even without the XG graphic, I think it's a better choice compared to sp8.
But I'd pick X13 over Z too, the look is too much 😅
I just they would create a decent table like this that I could also use at the office. I agree, it's just too much bling for that environment.
Where can I find the cool wallpapers you use on the ROG unit? Thanks!
5:04 The pounds / kg conversion is totally wrong, and the weight percentage difference is wrong.
In the words of a wise man: "Flexing is not optional. It is an obligation."
1a:16 Jarrod’s Tech confirmed with Asus that it was indeed an engineering limitation. Sadly, it was either USB 2.0 or no USB-A at all…
Idn man I really like the look of it...
Great video though.
i got the x13 few months ago, battery suddenly not charging, last day can return, then picked up the z13; for gaming, z13 will be better coz u don't have the keyboard, doesn't matter how good laptop keyboard is, still not ideal; just use the screen hock up a full size keyboard to play, or plug it to a monitor, take up less space; only complain is the Windows 11... really hated it... especially the combine tab... waiting for 3080ti on the xg mobile
Style is a win for me.
Best option would be to get amd with igpu only, RDNA 2 is enough for lot of task if you need more power external GPU would be best to opt for. 1500 usd is kind of expensive through 😅😅
+1
Best review!
Gud. Looks solid laptop alternative for those who want to use more glorified keyboards and trackpads/mouses
I don't cut my food with a fork.
wow those lpddr5 ram will surely bump the performance up for those devices
Good video.
@Hardware_Canucks is this you?
I would love to have a use case for this
seems like anyone who owns both a tablet and a high end laptop and wants to upgrade both and consolidate to one device.
you said last year model of the X13 only had 1650 gpu.
May be focusing on people who in need of gaming laptop and table at the same time. Who know.
@@kanumillikarthik4190
I think this is what Asus targets this at
A bit of a conversation error on the weight you got there
Asus did say the gen 2 USB was an engineering limit
It should be noted, that ANY surface pen should work with the device.
What about using it for CAD and simulations involving ray tracing? I just want to do CAD while flying.
I believe @Jarrod'sTech confirmed that the USB 2.0 was indeed an engineering limitation. The [almost] good news is the XG Mobile has 4 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, but of course no one can find one to buy >.
To me, this is the buy if you want a Surface pro 8.
no bro this thing is fire i just got it
Cuanto te dura la bateria ?
Can we get a 2022 monitor update? I'm desperately in the market for dual monitors, and I can't tell what to grab.
Would be so cool if you could tell us if this works with other eGPUs like the Razer Core
