I really hope this form factor takes off. I love tablets and honestly having one that can run full windows and play games at a reasonable level is just a dream come true. I'm tempted to sell off my current laptop for this as the niche of hooking up and egpu to this bad boy and just taking the tablet with me when I'm leave the house is honestly something I've wanted to do for years. I definitely want to see the results of using a thunderbolt egpu vs the xg mobile.

Having used gaming laptops for a while now, I reckon having the GPU external makes a lot more sense. I cringe at the temps I get on my laptops during extended gaming sessions. Something must give in eventually with this much heat all the time. I recently considered getting a proper PC box but I need a laptop...this setup makes more sense to me. Def a good idea 👍

It's a really cool device. I love the capability of having a such portability with performance, and the ability to add performance when needed. I'd love have a laptop style keyboard attachment in addition to the tablet keyboard with kickstand. It's great if you have internet issues, data caps, or no internet and need to travel to get updates. I think the perfect product is just around the corner. If they could have gotten a 3060 or even a 3070 in the tablet itself and was able to play RDR2 at 60 fps ultra settings with no issues, it would be an absolute beast of a machine. A real desktop replacement with amazing portability and functionality. I can't wait for the next model of this, and I really hope this one sells well so we can get a great next model.

Thanks for the video. I've been watching this laptop for a while as I value the unique portability but agreed the price at release seemed a little high. However, one year on and this laptop has some heavy discounts now (~USD1000) so I picked one up. I think at this price, with the ability to put in an older or newer XG Mobile GPU it might be a bargain. It still seems unique in its size/power/portability and hiping that older gen i9 will still keep it relevant for a few more years.

Been having this strange problem where Windows 11 places single threaded loads (such as games) on the wrong core/thread. My CPU is the R7 5800H.
When playing Valorant, for example, my most loaded thread is the last one, CPU15.
Same happens when I run a game on PPSSPP (PSP emulator) with an uncapped frame rate (at maximum possible speed for testing purposes, basically a super single threaded workload). The load gets placed on one of the non physical threads of the CPU which makes no sense.
Could you please lend me a hand investigating the issue? Are you being affected as well?

Hey, I just purchased this device and got it last week. I have noticed that when I run cinebench r23 I get significantly different results if I use the Armoury crate software set to eco mode to disable the dgpu or if I leave it standard. It seems when I leave the gpu enabled my multicore scores differ anywhere from 9k-14k. In eco mode it is more consistent and generally achieves 12k-16k multicore. I also noticed the cpu will rapidly adjust from 80 degrees at very high ghzs and jump down to 60 degrees running below 1ghz with it jumping back and fourth. Is that something you encountered, do I have a bad unit, or are the drivers just not solidified yet to keep consistency? Sorry for the long comment but I really love this device and want to keep it, but I want to make sure that I don't have a defective unit.

@@Sebbir It certainly is, but even then, there are people who love the surface book, when the sb3 launched I thought of getting one for college/gaming, but the 1660 it had was truly not enough, and I think asus could pull off a surface book competitor that could do real good on gaming and creative applications if they keep going the xgmobile

@@darenren It does, but I'm just trying to think "outside the box", there are some laptops that have tried to do that, but for the creative kind of consumer, the acer concept laptops were a real good design, still with flaws of course, but with the people and resources these companies have, if the public shows enough interest, they might pull a big one of. It will be cool, having tablet-like laptop that could be "docked" to maximize performance.

I really really wish it had a better camera and audio!! And I really wish it had a 4k oled and ryzen! And I wish it had cellular. I really wish I could use this as a phone replacement! I’m actually really disappointed because my phone is old and I really want something way more powerful like this but with those features! Also I really wish it had water resistance like the other tablets.
I really appreciate you covering this!! I so desperately want a product like this just a little different.

Jerrod, any comment on the CPU dipping to 1.0GHz making some games completely annoying to play? It'll go from 3ghz to 1ghz making it seem like you're constantly unplugging the charger. 60+fps and a really smooth experience to 25-30 for a few seconds and then it just repeats like that. Does this in Rust and Elden Ring.

Might be powerful, but it’s also expensive as hell, the lack of upgradability has it on a ticking clock, and if the XG mobile is just as cumbersome to use as it was on the X13, I’m not all that interested in picking it up again.

Hmm I didn't really mind either as a laptop, probably X13 for laptop mode as you don't need the kick stand which is a pain in some scenarios like on your lap. As a tablet though X13 not as good as you are holding the keyboard and it feels a bit weird.

I agree the price is too high. I bought mine at $1900+tax and I believe the difference between the X13 variant shouldn't be more than a couple hundred. Graphics card identical, identical RAM capacity and identical SSD upon purchase. The micro SD slot is nice and can double storage but I found the build to be a bit plastic. Parts of it feels squishy. Even the power button is squishy.
