Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Matthew, you're the man
You’re very welcome 🙏
As a car guy, love the sample video when you were talking about the displays! Right on
Great review...love it...a lot of information in just a short video, answer most of my questions related to the different of these two.
7:00 I’m legitimately shocked they put in a socketed Wi-Fi card for the 2022 x13 (my 2021 model has a soldered Wi-Fi card)!
I prefer the X13 as I don't find much of a reason to go for a heavy windows tablet that has a worse battery life. The 6000 series CPUs are way powerful enough for me.
The Z13 corners of the screen feel squishy as well as the power button needing to push down hard to turn on.
Don't forget that X13 is cheaper
@@nguyenhai-cr5ks True. The only thing about the Z13 is when attached to eGPU everything feels faster. I have it setup for use as my mobile desktop tablet. Screen is brighter and color is better than the X13 when doing my organic chemistry homework and studying.
i m thinking of buying x13 ryzen 9. but in store i saw screen display quality/resolution not so much good compare to vivobook..
can u plz tell me whether that is for display mis-configuration?
@@chattarajeshan1992 Display misconfiguration? May your clarify? Most stores I see with the Asus X13 available have the FHD 120Hz version. There is the 4k variant with 60Hz screen but it seems harder to find. I find the screen used on the Asus Z13 is a bit more vibrant than the Asus X13. The 2022 version of the X13 has a screen that is brighter than the 2021.
Having used the Flow x13, I get a lot of people asking how there is so much performance in such a small form factor. It's very quiet when not gaming. I wanted something that was low profile for every day use for work with good battery, and when I wanna play a demanding game, I can swap to that. Fan control and power settings are important. In battery boost mode, I had it set the CPU to under clock to use less power. Significantly increased battery. I love this thing, -just need to get the Mobile GPU lol.- got it!
Update 6/21/2022 - Flow x16:
Asus Flow x16 just released, and I'm hella tempted to swap to it for the 3070 Ti configuration, but I'm reluctant on it due to the larger footprint and price.
Update 9/6/2022 - Final Decision:
I sized up the Flow x16 at the Microcenter store. @Kiri_36 mentioned it's $1k+ more, so I opted for the XG Mobile 3080 instead, and I think I've got the best portable rig money can buy in 2022. It runs everything and offloads the heat as it sits on my lap, which is a major benefit.
The eGPU is nice but got its quirks. You have to be a bit patient and follow specific instructions for the connector.
How much battery life do you able to crank out of the laptop by reducing its power profile?
@@RidwanGosal Going to the advanced power options in control panel, I set the processor power management to use 20% on battery. It is kinda weird when changing, but what I noticed was the clock speed dropped to 1.20GHz from 2.20GHz idle with chrome open and browsing, with citrix (work) I got about 40 extra minutes out of it.
Oh I see. Thanks for the answer!
I guess it's safe to wait the eGPU until the RTX 4000 series came out, Whether they continue the support for XG Mobile + using the same connector or not.
Great comparison! Thanks especially for the Photoshop/Premiere comparisons. The idea of solid 4K video editing machines with such a small form factors is very compelling. Any thoughts on whether either of these could handle fairly light (under 10 minute videos, 5 layers or less) 8k video editing?
I think getting into 8k video editing you're going to need at least a 3060 for the extra VRAM. You could always get the XG Mobile with either of these two for the 3080 to be able to easily handle 8k editing, but that doubles the price
Well a new model has since launched and now it sports an RTX 4050 :)
I went for the z13 for the vastly superior cooling setup. Having the hot air being pushed up and away from the machine and never needing a cooling pad makes a huge difference
QUE TAL TE VA AMIGO, ME LA COMPRARE, CUANTO TE DURA LA BATERIA CON PROGRAMAS PESADOS Y USO COMUN?

Thanks for the excellent comparison!
You’re welcome!
With your video you have guided me very well. Thanks.
Great comparison review Matt as always. Concise and succinct. The Asus ROG Flow X13 is now $1799.99 at Best Buy. They raised the price :-/
Idk but all they did was upgrade the OS to V11
Thata some fucked up shit
Is 1500 on eBay now
I got mine for $999 on Black Friday, feels like a steal
@@evelezpumaI was thinking of getting the X -13 is it worth it ? I’m currently trying to program video games and applications
I have always noticed that Intel stuff is always expensive than AMD stuff and yeah that is the key point for me
Even though i like the z13 form factor I’m not ready to pay $1899 when I can get almost same form factor for $1599
the Z13 is in my Top 3 favorite tech purchases of all time. im a Surface guy. have Surface Books, Pros, Go, Duos, RT. i was trying to decide between a Surface Pro X and the newest Pro. also had a Steam Deck on order. decided to go with the Z13 to instead of a new Pro AND the Steam Deck. i know this isnt a handheld. but i LOVE it. finally received my Steam Deck about 10 days ago. sold it to someone in Puerto Rico who couldnt get one. im happy and hes happy.
It would be interesting to see a comparison between the zephyrus g14 and the flow x13.
Z13 has more battery and portability than both
Thanks for your reviewing both laptops, i can choose what is best deal
I had the X13 2021 last year. The AMD chip went up really hot unless you put the laptop in a tent mode (not practical while gaming unless you have an external keyboard or controller). For productivity work the battery was good however. I got around 8hrs (No Gaming). I bought the Z13 this year and using it for around a month. It's really good in terms of thermal management. It never went above 82 degrees even using the overclocking for CPU and GPU. And in silent mode the Z13 can give you around 6hrs battery. I am quite happy with this. But beware, it's not a lite tablet, that you can hold for long hours like an iPad.
Did you try to undervolt the CPU and GPU?
It's 3 pounds. Not heavy. Insane how you guys think 3 pounds is heavy
waiting on my x13! thank you!
I wish there was a standard for the x8 egpu connector or an external enclosure you could put any gpu into that uses the x8 connector
Thanks for the info mate :)
Thanks man, I need this
I hope you'll get your hands on the latest Asus Zenbook 14X OLED UX5401and review it. It's been months since it was introduced yet still no handson reviews and price 😔
They bumped up the price on the X13. Luckily, I was able to find an open box one for just under the old price. Its a very nice laptop. Feels great in the hand.
In my area you can get one for 1199
Funny thing: X13 with same specs is waiting for unboxing after delivery roughly one hour before - thanks for the video, confirming my decision after many hours of research. Hopefully it will work for 4k video editing on the go. So I will unbox it later and do not send it back for a Z13 :) Maybe later a fat desktop for final editing if the planned project is gaining motion! Thanks again!
Hey, how's it going?
@@AedxnUp to now I used it only for FullHD projects and it works like charm. Exporting to WMV format is slow (2x movie time base) but sufficient. Using 4k stuff during editing works. All with an external Disk (T7) on the USB port with ~300 MByte/s.
Graphics delivers to a 4k external monitor.
Thank you my Friend now i'm sure to take the x13 ! Perfect vidéo 👍
Flow X13 is still my favorite. It was the most interesting device, maybe as interesting as Zephyrus G14
The Asus Z13 is more interesting than the X13. 😉

i've been used x13 like 1 year, i think this is kind of laptop that ASUS should make in the future. small factor & good performance. the problem is just the paint peeling off if u often use it in hot environment & ASUS should make the trackpad larger in the next gen of this device , the last thing that they need to replace is 2230 type of SSD to 2260/2280 type of SSD in notebook.👌

also can you add extra GPU with it ?
I'm getting the Z13 when they launch, on the 16th.
thanks for helping me make the choice
Regarding the USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Port in X13, Asus has promised, just like their other Ryzen 6000 series Laptops, that it will receive USB 4 update via a Firmware/Drive update. Technically the USB-C port is USB 4 in X13 but right now there is no driver and firmware support for it. That will eliminate some of the advantages Z13 has due to TB 4. What I understand correctly that for being used as a Laptop, X13 is a better buy due to combination of very good performance , keyboard and battery life whereas Z13 can be the best Windows Tablet. If you're really considering it for gaming then the eGPU dock is a must have and I think that $300 savings can be utilized over there, if you go with X13.
I'd like to know how it's like to take notes using the touchscreen and a pen on both devices
the final thoughts is what this video makes me smile well played
I think the z13 is a bit too heavy for an everyday tablet, what is your opinion Matthew?
deciding between the x13 and the zenbook fold once it comes out
Matthew: Don't forget to take your vitamins and be well.
I’m well! It was veryyyy minor. Thanks though!
interesting spec is x13 with integrated graphics because they are comperable to gtx1650 and possible more efficient
I wish the z13 has a surface book keyboard optio.
Or a more sturdy keyboard like the brydge to make it easier to use on your laps.
I wish Asus would bring back the Mothership. Now that was a sweet system.
The components, for example the RAM, can be replaced relatively easily with a soldering station. So, it's possible to do some upgrades.
Thank you for the research, as an artist I prefer z13
I bought the Asus Rog scar 17 2022 model. Let me say this, holy shit that thing games like a pro

Could the Z13 be used in a school environment to write on with a Pen? And how does that feel?
Is the x13 ryzen 7 rtx 3050 enough for architecture programs?? Or should I get the Zhephirus g14 rtx 6700s???
Have a tactil panel is a plus but if the diference is so big I could get the g14 , help please 😓
1:40 The x13 has a USB A 3.2 gen 2 type C port (10 gigabits per second) whereas the z13 has a USB A 2.0 port because there wasn’t enough room internally for the cable to connect a USB 3.0 port or higher…
Don't forget the z13 run a thunderbolt port 40 gpbs ;) any thunderbolt dock is way better than USB c
@@MeltdownDJ thunderbolt does everything worse. The display output is bottlenecked over displayport, egpu enclosures make a desktop 3080 much slower than the xg mobile, latency is much worse, and read and write speeds on ssds are slowed
@@squishypeanut42 bruh still better than any usb who are 4 times slower ! ^^
@@MeltdownDJ it's not better than usb at anything other than doing multiple things at a time. Usb keyboards will always have less latency than a keyboard plugged into thunderbolt because it has to go through the more advanced system. Having wires just be separate is better or even better than both of those, the xg mobile.
I would go for the X13
why ?
@gazzygarcia1636 simple...because it is cheaper than z13

Hello again. The same person who asked for a 3d modeling benchmarks list in your videos. Some of the common apps r Auto CAD, solid works, Auto desk 3d max and MATLAB. The reason I'm asking it is that I think there r a lot of engineering students like me who cannot afford workstation laptops so then they'll lean towards gaming laptops. Either way much obliged to u for the effort and reading the comments. Definitely appreciated.

Depends on what kind of project do you plan to do on it. I would say that if you are a student, your projects are simple, and drawing in CAD software doesn't require a huge amount of vram, so any solid laptop without dedicated graphic card will do. I did my projects in MATLAB and SOLIDWORKS on a laptop that had vega 3, and everything was smooth and fast. Why would you waste money on these things. From my experience I got hyped about asus rog zephyrus g14, when I bought it for me it was huge disappointment. For a expensive laptop I experienced problems that I never experienced with lower end laptops. Stay away from overhyped products, unless you have enough money to waste.
how is the pen performance of the 13Z compared to the zenbook flip? i read reviews rnqging fron non useable to the same/better
With current prices I would suggest the Z13 over the X13
Any idea if the rog flow x13 6900hs is good for music production? I mainly use ableton/fl studio with vst such as omnisphere/keyscape/kontakt libary
I really love your way describe the difference, it really help a lot
I got the M16 this year, got a bit (or rather) disappointed with the battery life, which literally sucks. Really looking foward to the X13 getting a RTX3060 or a RX6700S, if there's enough internal space in future models. I could really use some extra VRAM, since Forza Horizon is what I mainly play. Also I hope the screens can get a better response time.
I want Z13 with Ryzen 9 6900HX and no dGPU. As power unrestricted integrated 680m is pretty close to 40W power starved RTX 3050. But not having that extra chip and power delivery leaves much more space inside for other things. Be it more efficient cooling. Bigger battery. Other/Full NVMe. ... (And apparently, gives potential for lighter device.)
Secondly, one can go and buy external GPU box which is what is reasonable use of current Z13 variants.
And then at low power draw side, AMD is currently better than intel, while Intel is better at high power draws. So mobility would be better. And Price? Just subtract price of RTX 3050. It would be winner on so many fronts.
But from latest interview with Robert Hallock where he did talk about design wins, I have feeling that AMD did no score any "Tablet"/"2-in-1" devices and all we can look for are touch enabled devices with 360° rotation.
Same
Efficiency > absolute performance any day of the week. This is why Apple Silicon is such a brilliant architecture - not because it bests the very best components (it doesn’t always), but because it competes using a fraction of the power. It makes both AMD and Intel look power-hungry, but Intel especially even with 12th gen and a 10nm process has a lot of catching up to do. Looking for maximum “frames per second” is useful for desktop comparison but I really like addressing battery life, fan noise, and live-ability with portable devices like these. Good job as always Matt!
I agree AMD is definitely ahead of Intel in terms of power efficiency but they both have a LONG way to go to catch up to Apple. thanks for watching!
The efficiency is a Myth. Anyone who says the M1 is power efficient hasn't looked at any figures.. The M1 max uses well over 100 watts while gaming.

Good review Mr. Matthew. I prefer X13 over Z13 any day since it's more value for money option. Also, X13 is future proof since its hardware is under the keyboard just like in any other laptops, whereas the Z13 has all its hardware including the battery under the display which is very risky. If its battery bulges or leaks, the whole hardware is prone to damages along with the battery, then you just have to throw the device away and get yourselves a new device. Also, the Z13 can't be used on your laptop like a normal laptop, you have to place it on a stable surface if you want to use the keyboard. You haven't covered the stylus in your comparison. I'm a student and I use my Galaxy Tab S7 for my note-taking and my laptop for all other windows related stuff which is burdensome if you wanna carry both devices. So, I'm planning to get myself a 2 in 1. I have researched some decent 2 in 1s like Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360, HP Spectre, MS Surface Pro 9 etc. but they all fall short in some important areas like performance, storage, os, price, stylus. Some devices are exorbitantly priced and some are heavy if you choose a higher specced variant. The X13 seems to be a capable all rounder but I'm not sure how its stylus performs and how optimised its apps are for tablet experience. I wanna know how it performs in apps like MS OneNote, Word, S Notes etc. but unfortunately no one seems to talk or make videos in this aspect.
I'm with the same problem, did you buy a 2 in 1? I'm looking up for the best option.
