      There's always stuff on sale at gaminglaptop-deals or r/laptopdeals. Like right now you can get a 2023 Dell G15 w/a 7840HS and 4060 for as low as $765 for example and there's always previous gen stuff going for even cheaper. It's really up to an individual to decide how much they want to pay/what they want to pay for.

      I'm guessing it's due to the 14" design, they probably needed to cram everything and took time with the heat / power issues... but I agree, the base level being 16GB is kind of terrible.

    Lenovo is really nailing that balance with solid build quality while keeping the weight manageable. But when you throw in something like the ASUS Zephyrus G14 with its CNC-milled aluminum body, it feels like these machines are less about compromise and more about making high-performance gaming more practical on the go. What intrigues me most is the thought of where gaming laptops will go from here-is smaller always going to be better, or are we losing something?

    • @MukhamediyarRaiymbek
      @MukhamediyarRaiymbek Місяць тому +13

      Well put together. Personally (as a dad working from home), I'm in the market for a laptop that's portable so that I can move from room to room or go outside without being too concerned about battery life. However, I still want to be able to do some gaming on this machine during downtimes. Hence, I think we should see a trend towards more efficient processors for better battery life while not compromising on performance.

    • @Qimchiy
      @Qimchiy Місяць тому +2

      Both the Asus and Legion laptops charge via Type C. The Legion is more fussy about it needing a minimum PD3.1 charger and their Legion GaN charger works best for it because of the supported amperage.

    • @visionary4787
      @visionary4787 Місяць тому +3

      @@MukhamediyarRaiymbek Great point! The portability factor is huge, especially for people balancing work and play in dynamic environments. I think the shift toward efficient processors is not just inevitable but crucial for the next wave of gaming laptops. We’re already seeing chips like AMD’s Ryzen series that pack a punch without draining the battery in minutes. What I’m curious about is how manufacturers will innovate in terms of cooling and power management. Can we achieve desktop-level performance without sacrificing battery life or thermal efficiency? It feels like the perfect laptop is just around the corner, but there’s always that trade-off.

    I bought the Legion about 6 or more months ago and have been very happy with it. I needed something portable (it was replacing a 2012 MacBook Air), but also something that could replace my old desktop gaming PC and it ticks all the boxes. It had a problem with the graphics but Lenovo sent a guy out to my house, he replaced the mainboard and it fixed the issue, so I am happy with the backup as well. As mentioned the speakers are dogwater, really bad, so headphones or external speakers are a must. It also gets super loud when under load, but they probably all do. The display is super nice, never had an OLED before and it's lovely. BTW, I'm pretty sure it is now discontinued, it certainly seems to be in my country.

    I bought the HP Omen Transcend 14 w/ 16gb and 4060 on sale at Best Buy back in late March. The keyboard is one of those love it or hate things. Personally, I really like it and it has the best feel of any laptop keyboard I've typed on. HP made a decision to use USB-C charging and that limits its performance relative to the competition, but I think it was a good compromise. I use a light, small Ugreen 140w charger and don't need a massive proprietary power brick. Also, when used with the Lossless Scaling app for upscaling and frame generation, this laptop turns into a gaming beast at 120 fps. Finally, the dark matte finish is a fingerprint magnet, but I ordered M2 Skins in carbon fiber finish. Has perfect fit, including cutout for the Omen logo, looks awesome, and totally fixed the fingerprint problem. I just wish it had a MUX switch, since iGPU only mode is so much quieter and better on battery than Hybrid mode. I reboot back and forth; it is annoying but not a deal breaker.

    You should include which laptop creates the most fan noise and for how long and on what type of tasks. How long it takes for the fans to turn off after a gaming session. How often the fans are running. Ideally it shouldn’t run at all unless something really intensive is running like a complicated blender model, unreal projects or Video editing timelines with color mods.
    Also which one is the most stable and bug free of them all. Has the most reliability in-terms if usable and crashes. Rather having the most power, i would prefer having a device that is reliable with a good battery endurance and performs the same on battery as much as it does on the power supply.
    Sleep/wake stability how long before it crashes and you loose everything when used like a Mac using the super sleep state or like a steamdeck.
    Because some of us work/study in the library and if the laptop is blasting while working on a few pdfs and word files along with a browser, it just makes sense to buy a MacAir/MacPro and have a steamdeck or a handheld along side.

    As far as the design, I think having the trunk in the back of a couple of those, while it does benefit cooling (most importantly) and also as you mention the one-handed opening; it also increases the form factor to an extent that the laptop is more like a footprint of a 15" device. It's not terrible, and I would still buy one of those if a sale was good enough; it's just that design-wise, it does at least a little make the device more of a difficult sell.

    Appreciate the review but I don't see how you can call this the best 14 laptops, when a lot of these models you've compared, has a direct, better configuration.
    both the G14 and Helios Neo 14 I know for sure have 32 gb versions, I'm sure the same can be said for the other models

    I would have gone for the Legion, but models with 32 GB of RAM are impossible to find. Same goes for the A14 - I've only seen one retailer in the US that has the 32 GB version. The black G14 only seems to be available for sale in the US directly from Asus in the highest configuration (8945HS, 32 GB, RTX 4070) at a price of $2100 so that's a no-go, though the Asus spec sheets lists HDMI 2.1 so not sure where you got that it only has 2.0b. I'm not a fan of the Acer's aesthetics. I'm willing to trade some performance for quieter acoustics so for me, the Omen is where I would go, though I would wait for the 32 GB/RTX 4070 configuration to drop enough in price either on a holiday sale or open box.

    I'd get the TUF A14, but the questionable Asus warranty is always in the back of my mind, should I get a lemon.
    Acer is great if you always intend to use it docked to good speakers/headset, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and webcam, I guess.
    I wouldn't get the Razer because DDR5SODIMM is slow, and price/perf is the worst.
    G14 is a no go for 2024, I liked the 2023 version better. They sacrificed performance for slimness.
    Lenovo and HP I'd grab over a Razer, but depends on the price at time of purchase.
