I don't wanna put worn clothes back in drawers with clean clothes, I don't wanna sit on surfaces in my home in clothes that have been on surfaces outside. I read this thing a few years ago about "no outside clothes in bed" and I think I kinda took that rule and applied it to my entire home in general. So if I come from outside, the first thing I always do is change into fresh clothes for inside. And if I've only worn the pants once and they're still fresh, I leave them in a separate pile to wear again soon instead of putting them back in the drawer with the other clothes.
Was waiting for the reveal that this was a light hearted metaphor to society’s reaction to hearing about minimalism for the first time in light of his ten years of minimalism. But nope. Just a video about pants.
I think it's very obvious when people double-wear their clothes....it has a distinctive unwashed body smell. I think the person wearing it just gets used to the smell. Like people that never wash their car or people that always have windows closed in their house without airing it out. It's rude to say something but if you've experienced it with other people than the same is probably happening to you.

If you take off a shirt you used for an entire day and it doesn't smell i can bet a 1000 dollars that when you go back to use it in the following days it will have developed a smell (caused by bacteria on your body that literally eats dead skin and then "poops" it out, causing the smell). If you can't smell it, try sniffing an unused shirt and then a used one: i'm sure reality will hit you. Maybe do it in fresh air since your house might have an odor as well if not washing things frequently is part of your habit (i'm not even going to enquire on your bedsheets....)

Clearly men don't have the same problems that women have, since sometimes we need to wash our jeans because of very specific little accidents that may happen once a month 🙄
Yes.. or when the vulva's secretion are juste there the rest of the month haha, I mostly wear dresses and skirt because jeans are uncomfortable and when I'm a little more smelly than another day I've got to wash them :/
as a former denim seller at one of the biggest retailers in the US, we were also told to advise customers to be super particular about how they wash and care for their jeans to lengthen their life! it's real!
Sorry Matt, I’ll take you up on wearing one type of t-shirt every day, decluttering, trying cold showers for a month, meditating, giving up coffee and going back to it, habit stacking, even moving to Australia. But not washing my jeans in 3 months? That’s a hard pass. Thank you, though!
I have fewer than 1 friend in the World. That's right. Everybody disses me for making bad videos. I think they are perfect though. Who is right? My dissers or me? Which side are you on, dear girs
It's worth mentioning that the material pants are made of can impact smell, comfort, and longevity. Fabrics with artificial fibers and blends may be more comfortable, but they get stinky faster (and the smell is far worse imo), and trap heat rather than allowing air to flow through. If you live in a hot climate, I highly recommend a cotton/linen wardrobe (outside of workout clothes). Levi's still sells 100% cotton jeans, but they can be harder to find in stores (at least for women, in my experience). Be sure to check the label; many times I've come across pants with the same cut but different fabric blends.
It’s rare that I find a stranger on UA-cam speaking TO ME, but this was all so nice and validating to hear. I accidentally fell into not washing my jeans about ten years ago when I simply realized that I didn’t like the way my jeans looked or felt after washing them- so I started going longer and long without washing until eventually I just NEVER washed them. I’ve shared the same experiences as far as replacing due to small holes after a year or three, and also buying jeans you can barely button because by the time you replace them they’re three sizes bigger. They’ll stretch where they need to and stay tight where they can, becoming a perfectly tailored pair over time. I find about eight months in, a pair of jeans is absolutely perfect in every way. I tend to keep only two pairs- one that’s new and one that’s old. When the old one is toast I buy another new one and the old “new pair” becomes the new “old pair.”
I feel like this video shows us that Matt is a normal guy just like all of us. Mind me, Matt is still extremely authentic in other videos, but this one just takes a step back from all the more serious productivity topics and shows us regular Matt in everyday life with regular everyday life problems. Relatability on another level

would also recommend looking into mending (and maybe a bottle of black fabric dye for) your old pair as a backup for those times Nat is mad you're without pants
For people who has already watched the video : I don't remember correctly whether it was the Levi's CEO or if it was a promotion from the brand, the message was about not to wash your jeans but to freeze them by putting it in a refrigerator. Well whoever said that was scientifically wrong anyway. They say freezing the jeans would kill the harmful bacteria. But what they didn't knew was that the same bacteria comes back to the jeans after it's taken out of the refrigerator and when it reaches room temperature. Another thing about this practice of not washing jeans will not be applicable to everyone. It depends on your skin type, how much you sweat, the weather around you or where you live. These factors will determine if you can follow this practice in anyway. Also take into consideration about the profession like whether you are someone who works from home all the time or you have to go out everyday; this no wash routine might not be a problem for the work from home person granted if all the previously mentioned conditions are also in favor.
I rarely wash my jeans. I DEFINITELY don't put them in the dryer. My wardrobe is at least 10 years old. However, you would never know it because I "line dry" my clothes. My dryer only gets used for sheets and towels!!
I don’t care how many people tell me I’m not supposed to wash my jeans. I’ve been forced to do it before on trips and they feel disgusting pretty quickly as the dead skin cells and sweat collect in them. Deodorizing them or putting them in the freezer doesn’t fix how nasty it feels.
I don't wash my jeans or bath towels after every use, but I still wash them after about a week or two when I remember. Not washing your clothes, especially if you wear them regularly, is just gross IMHO.
this is true for most clothes (excluding socks/underware/undershirts) imo. I got really sick of shit shrinking when I used to buy fast fashion products and just started smell testing things. clothes usually dont get dirty from wearing them once, makes no sense to wash something just because you wore it.
You made reflect about why I never questioned those little things ever before, I've been following the norm just because others told me to, thank you Matt
I've a kind of secod hamd experience with unwashed pants. They smell like a wet dog or a wet dirty rag for cleaning the floor... (they were dry). Maybe the owner doesn't smell that because he's used to it!! It is a neurogical adaptation mechanism in our brain. We adapt to constant smell around. I was not adapted and the unwashed pants were really smelly! :)
I think that depends on the person. My everyday clothes don't smell unless I leave them on the floor, I hang them when I'm not wearing them. When I smell my trousers that I haven't washed for months and compare them to a clean pair, the difference in smell is hardly noticeable. Did just make couple friends try and tell which trousers were clean just from smell, and they couldn't. My exercise clothes smell, there is no going around that, and I wash them weekly. I think my everyday clothes don't smell because I don't really sweat unless I'm exercising.
@@-Anjel it is proven that people stop feeling the smell they are used to. There was a woman who had 15 cats and everybody said her house is deadly stinky - and she could smell flowers but not her cats and kept telling there is no bad smell in her home... I assure you homeless people also don't smell themselves.
WOW, as a clean freak this scared the hell out of me. Especially when you said that you will spot clean them. Now I feel like when I go out with men, I have to ask them do they wash their jeans/clothes. LOL!
Shoutout to the people who haven't felt ok lately, but get up everyday and refuse to quit. Appreciate the bad days because honestly those are the times where you find your true character. Stay strong.
When your clothes are soaked in grime or mud and sweat from doing manual labor, you'll change your tune. If you're literally a wall-flower with a pair of denims, then sure, I don't see why you'd need to wash your pants either...
Absolutely. I hear people talking about how jeans don't get dirty and I look at mine -- covered in actual DIRT -- and think huh??? I guess if taking public transportation is the dirtiest thing you do, your jeans don't really get dirty. But between gardening, dogs, yardwork, horses, and farm chores, yeeeeaaaah my jeans are gonna get dirty.
@@sandyhausrath even pre-covid, one should ALWAYS wash clothes after taking public transportation. buses/trains/planes carry a lot of biology, including that which might be entirely out of your immune system's league farm chores: i get that. tho buses/trains/planes: homeless people. people from places where hygiene is non-existent. drug resistant this-that-and-other. i would wear same jeans after delivering newborn calf before doing same after riding plane/train/bus
Damn, you must live such a clean, safe life, in a clean controlled environment. If I wear One pair of pants all week, they look and definitely are pretty nasty after that week.(grammar edit)
I wash my jeans every 2 wears at least. I’m a barber so it gets dirty from that. Also you fart, sweat, out and about and use the rest room so for cleanliness purposes I do it.
Great theory UNTIL you put them in warm soapy water in the sink or bath…when you see what comes out of them you will start washing them at least weekly!
As someone that works at Levi’s, I totally agree!!! Also washing can often change the denim or stretch of the jeans. As long as they’re not dirty there’s no need to wash frequently
Dude Matt, I know lately you’ve been in a creative rut from your other videos, but you legit made a video about pants interesting and I watched the whole thing brother. You’re gonna be fine 😄
I've been doing this for years. It just felt odd to wash it so often. Also, DON'T dry wash or put your jeans in the dryer. The elastic in the jeans will burn off and your jeans will deteriorate much quicker.
In that end clip you can just hear the aussie coming out of Nat! Loved the video dude, glad to see I am not the only one who noticed that jeans don't have to get washed that frequently! xD
It works when u live a clean life, I have a toddler, I fish, hike, and work no way I'm just folding up a formula, fish gut soaked pair of Jeans and putting them back in the drawer. But he is right
For those of us who dislike jeans: I have been wearing Lululemon joggers (the ones that look like dress pants), and recently discovered UNRL pants. So there are alternatives!
But only owning one pair of pants is dumb. Some of you just have office jobs and dont wear clothes out. This shouldn't be normalized. This is living in poverty so that you can feel superior. You would wash your Jean's if everyday when you came in you were covered in mud and paint. Grow up get a real mans job and make some real money and than you ain't gotta wear the same pants every day. God I hate hipsters.
On the topic of only having one pair. I've always had a hard time seing the use of having more than one type of cloting for everyday use. Throughout my life I've from time to time asked people if it's wierd to just buy two pairs of the same jeans and the answer has always been a yes, haha. Which I've never understood. I was in heaven when I realized that at least with socks and underpants I can just buy the same model in bulk because no one will notice. And it's great! And now in this recent year I finally dared to take it to the t-shirts as well (maybe thanks to Matt here). I bought 10 white identical t-shirts and 10 identical long sleeved shirts. It feels great! I never have to choose the best one in the morning, or be sad that all my good shirts are dirty and I only have the bad ones left. Anyway, I do have several copies of them though instead of only one. Same if I did this with Jeans. I've always only had 2 pairs of jeans, but it's been different models. I'll probably go with one from now on, but still 2. Not one. :)
I agree, but I found that all jeans are not created equally. Some jeans, (my Carhartt ), I seldom need to wash them. I am going to track this pair for how long before I need to wash them. So far, three weeks and they are a lot more comfortable. Lysol works well to freshen them up. Other pairs of jeans only last for three days before a washing is a must.
Matt.. what do you think about women following your your dress code? For me it sounds refreshing and relieving stress about always figuring out what to wear. I think I’m going to try by starting with one color … than slowly move forward…. My color of choice is black tops and two pairs of jeans and one pair of slacks. Wish me luck ! I’m feeling better already make a decision… my current wardrobe is full of every single type of clothing you can imagine new ,old and past fads… I am learning it’s about me not about them. I have learned that I dress up for myself and this will help me. I am a OVERCOMER … I often say baby steps make big steps! Thank you Matt you’ve given me great inspiration and hope for a new change.. I have looked into that women’s 33 pieces wardrobe but to me that’s very overwhelming too much stuff..I do not wear lots of jewelry I am very simple and classic….☺️
You know, the flip side of streamlining and minimalism is spending an extraordinary amount of time and effort deciding and agonizing over every detail of every aspect of you life and trying to find a way to simplify it. I guess it’s a high effort and attention at the beginning so you don’t have to think about it in the future so you only have to to that sense and deep upfront analysis once

The comment I was looking for
Thanks, I always thought I was a weirdo
Same here
That's it
I do this but I have OCD, I didn't know other people did. As long as it's not a bother, being clean is good!

@@sjuvanet i can assure you that everyone can very clearly tell who are clean and who are not.

Sorry Matt, I’ll take you up on wearing one type of t-shirt every day, decluttering, trying cold showers for a month, meditating, giving up coffee and going back to it, habit stacking, even moving to Australia. But not washing my jeans in 3 months? That’s a hard pass. Thank you, though!
haven’t washed mine way longer than that, but i don’t wear jeans often. really good quality denim will not need a wash for a while if taken care of.

It's odd how much your channel has changed my outlook on my wardrobe. It actually helps a lot.
This is for people who never get sweaty, like at all, AT ALL.
Exactly and live in cold weather countries
Or don't have dogs
Or those who go commando 😂
or those that shit their pants.
literally breathing makes me sweat. and this video triggered me to no end XD
Lol you found your justification to have smelly jeans I guess
I feel like this video shows us that Matt is a normal guy just like all of us. Mind me, Matt is still extremely authentic in other videos, but this one just takes a step back from all the more serious productivity topics and shows us regular Matt in everyday life with regular everyday life problems. Relatability on another level
this one is not relatable - it's mind-boggling XD
I feel sorry that you can relate to not wanting to change your pants because you're afraid of distractions.

This is not Matt wearing another color of shirt. AGAIN, THIS IS NOT MATT 😂
When Matt shows you on the screen exactly which jeans he's wearing and then you realise he must have been shooting the video in his underwear 😅
The oghjkkur
I rarely wash my jeans. I DEFINITELY don't put them in the dryer. My wardrobe is at least 10 years old. However, you would never know it because I "line dry" my clothes. My dryer only gets used for sheets and towels!!
Same here! Our clothes last for YEARS.
The only creator that can possibly draw (and keep) my attention talking about jeans. Props, Matt. Props.
👑
I don't wash my jeans or bath towels after every use, but I still wash them after about a week or two when I remember. Not washing your clothes, especially if you wear them regularly, is just gross IMHO.
this is true for most clothes (excluding socks/underware/undershirts) imo. I got really sick of shit shrinking when I used to buy fast fashion products and just started smell testing things. clothes usually dont get dirty from wearing them once, makes no sense to wash something just because you wore it.
Not ever isn't good, washing less is a good thing - I do the same with sweaters
Oh I thought everyone did it with the sweater 😂
Of course you don’t wash your sweater every time you wear it, I use them at least 2/3 times
I need other pairs tho
Matt's b-roll never fails to impress me
You made reflect about why I never questioned those little things ever before, I've been following the norm just because others told me to, thank you Matt
The same experience that made me stay away from not washing my pants
You have to be extremely dirty not to wash any of your cloths especially what you wear around your groin area 🤮 Jeans always smell under.
Yh
When your clothes are soaked in grime or mud and sweat from doing manual labor, you'll change your tune. If you're literally a wall-flower with a pair of denims, then sure, I don't see why you'd need to wash your pants either...
Just what I was thinking. My husband comes home covered in sawdust and grime (teaches high school shop) and I wash his jeans weekly.

Great theory UNTIL you put them in warm soapy water in the sink or bath…when you see what comes out of them you will start washing them at least weekly!

Dude Matt, I know lately you’ve been in a creative rut from your other videos, but you legit made a video about pants interesting and I watched the whole thing brother. You’re gonna be fine 😄
There is quite a bit of difference between "never washing" and "washing a few times per year" to be fair
I've been doing this for years. It just felt odd to wash it so often. Also, DON'T dry wash or put your jeans in the dryer. The elastic in the jeans will burn off and your jeans will deteriorate much quicker.
Thank you for this!

Yes! I got all my guy friends into the lululemon ABC and commission pants. They’re comfy as heck and look put together
This should br way more mainstream. Stop doing unnecessary things to save resources and your finances!
I thought this was a joke, until he showed that footage of the president of Levi saying that he doesn’t wash his pants.
8:12 The moment you realize Matt has been talking to us pantless the whole time.
Not one. :)
"I told you, I had a diploma in speech and drama."
8:15 If the CEO of Levi’s is watching this video, @chipbergh, your fly is down 🤣
I agree, but I found that all jeans are not created equally. Some jeans, (my Carhartt ), I seldom need to wash them. I am going to track this pair for how long before I need to wash them. So far, three weeks and they are a lot more comfortable. Lysol works well to freshen them up. Other pairs of jeans only last for three days before a washing is a must.
He clearly doesn't have a toddler. My jeans rarely make it a day without berry stains.
I don't need a toddler, I spill berries on my own jeans.

I have learned that I dress up for myself and this will help me. I am a OVERCOMER … I often say baby steps make big steps! Thank you Matt you’ve given me great inspiration and hope for a new change..
