Wool shrinks/felts with heat and friction. The spin on a machine is perfect to getting all the water out since wool holds 80% of its weight in water. An easy way to wash wool is to place in a large bowl of lukewarm water, add about a nickel size amount of a conditioning shampoo (wool is hair) and squeeze gently, then let soak for about 10 mins - more if stinky, squeeze out or place on a spin only load in wash, rinse in fresh water until water is clear and squeeze again. Roll in a towel as another option to remove excess water, lay flat and reshape on towel or rack to dry. For ironing wool use a damp, same color tee/towel/pillowcase, make sure it is re-dampened and not dried out. This is a type of steaming that won't leave the wool shiny, especially at the seams and pockets. Hope this helps and thanks for letting me add my 2 cents :)
The most comprehensive laundry video on UA-cam! Many items I partially dry in a machine dryer and then finish drying on a rack. The fastest way to damage or destryo clothing is to 'bake it' in a dryer.
I grew up learning everyday things from YT but this video in particular is one of the best and most valued to me. Took a hectic topic and broke it down masterfully. I kept this video saved long ago and soon I am about to do my first laundry in-house. Thank you!
Great sharing! Very informative and helpful! 1.always do inside for washing 2. Dry sweater in lying in down position but hanging 3. Fold sweater instead of hanging them ..

One thing I would recommend is to invest in a decent garment steamer. Great for removing wrinkles on all types of fabrics whether it be cotton, synthetic, or silk. I also use it to give my clothing a quick refresh between washes.
i always have a spray bottle with clear water at hand whilst ironing, sometimes tap water can have a lot of chalc in it and can ruin your iron, as well as your washing machine 😶@@TimDessaint
Great stuff! Also; for delicates I like to use washing bags. Especially when there are like large zippers (common now) or other accessories. It prevents damage from washing itself. Banging on the inside of the machine. Other items and the spin cycle. 👌
This was honestly super useful. As a guy who's just about to leave for university, and who hasn't had to do a lot of chores, I can't thank you enough for all these tips.
I'm gonna share some things my mom has taught me... Liquid soap can be expensive so typically I use mexican powder soap like Foca, Ariel, and Roma. They sell in big 11 pound sacks and not a lot is needed for laundry and my clothes still smell good :) not sure if it sells everywhere, but I'm guessing they should be available in mexican stores? Oh and the good ol' bar of Zote, and it's safe for delicate skin too! My mom showed me that with clothes that are covered in grime or grease it's best to use Dawn platinum dish soap (ofc assuming the clothes aren't delicate) and put the machine on heavy duty and warm/hot water and it cleans it all out. Not sure if anyone needs this advice but I'm just sharing my knowledge 😊
Yoooo, this helped a lot, I'm 20yrs, Uni student and have been doing laundry all wrong, and I always wondered why I didn't separate my laundry. Huge Thanks Tim ❤

Nicely done Tim! I'm fanatical about my laundry! My wife is always like, "I can't believe you're doing a separate load for just that one item..." Also, the laundry bags, like you showed, are a lifesaver! I use them for lots of things, especially shirts that have mother of pearl buttons, as it keeps them from getting chipped.

I started doing my own laundry when I was 8 and I just honestly “figured it out” on my own. I just recently realized how some of my clothes get damaged really quickly🙂 here to figure out what I’ve been doing wrong 😂
I've been air-drying (after spin drying) my clothes for years, my family always attacks me for doing this calling me poor, but I still have cardigans, t-shirts, sweaters and scarves from 12 years ago in excellent condition. However, I never considered the weight induced stretching before! I will definitely make sure to lay out heavier clothes like sweaters on a flatter surface. I also use a more eco-friendly detergent with oxy clean booster, i add vinegar to detergent if needed (never mix vinegar and oxyclean!) I recently started to wash my precious clothes inside out and fold my knits/sweaters, it has been a game-changer! I bought a fuzzy remover recently as well, I only used it on my sofa but I can't wait to use it on sweater fuzzies! this was very informative!
Tim, you get us! All these bafoons saying they know how to do laundry and shaming others when they don’t know what they don’t know (sorting by colors, temp, etc) thanks bud
I want to add on some info between detergent types: *Powder* - better for hard water because softening additives are more stable in powder form. Use warm or hot water washes with powder detergent if you have very hard water. Great at removing carbon based stains. *Liquid* - required for "speed" cycles, better at removing greasy stains. Softening additives are often omitted from liquid detergents because these loose efficacy quickly in liquid form. Usable at all water temps and easily usable to pretreat laundry. *Tablets* - just don't...horrible in front loaders, cannot control dosing and 9/10 times you'll overdose your load. Take forever to dissolve so you end up with continued dosing during rinses. Most expensive and wasteful option. *Fabric Softener* - Fabric softener was created back in the day specifically for clothing made from synthetic fibers. It will build up on your clothing, is considered the most toxic laundering product since it isn't washed from clothing and has direct contact with your skin. As long as you're properly laundering your clothing it isn't needed. Save yourself, your clothing and the environment by skipping this all together.
I came across this video. I am an autism therapist and now teach the bigger boys how to do their laundry by showing them this video. It is really really helpful and the visuals and your energy helps so much. Thank you Tim for such an informative video. You have just become an autism superhero!

Thank you so much, I can't believe I've took notes of your explanation and not of my class lessons..... This helped me so much since my mother won't teach me how to do the laundry. Again, thank you so much
Do not use fabric softener on towels. It makes them less absorbant. That's why rough hotel towels, washed at high temp and never with softener, are so absorbant
I like using liquid starch on cottons that I iron, think more than shirts, blouses ( Summer dresses, slacks, shorts). I find you can wear them longer, they repel some stains, and stay crisp. Take out of washer, put in a sink with 1/2 water and about 1/2 starch. Using plastic hanger, hang on shower head, shower bar or outside, they will drip in tub/shower. When dry, iron. Like fresh from cleaners! Thanks for the tips Tim!
hello Tim, cannot appreciate enough your emphasis on sensible and sustainable washing....washing less is a great point you made! PLUS it saves time and effort ;) Clean water gets scarcer unfortunately
After watching this video (months ago) I bought a metal framed drying rack from Amazon. It folds up flat when not in use (which itʻs mostly always in use). I never really knew about these before watching your video. My mom always dried clothes on an outside line, and on a wooden rack over the bathtub in the winter, for a few big heavy items that she couldnʻt dry outside. I love using my new metal drying rack! Iʻve put it in the garage where itʻs handy and drips donʻt matter. I mostly bought it so I could dry several hand-washed cashmere sweaters at the same time over winter, but I use it all the time for everything else too. Thank you for the tip! I think my electric bill has gone down since buying this.
Do not use fabric softener on towels! They absorb moisture much less effectively if you wash them with it. Also, if a piece of clothing stinks a lot (smoke, starting mold, etc), put white vinegar (or normal 8% vinegar will also do) in the fabric softener bin. This is a very effective way to remove smell. If something smells a lot, put in more vinegar than you would fabric softener and use the "extra water" setting to make sure your clothes don't smell of vinegar afterwards)
Omg the way he pronounces ‘iron’ just makes me chuckle every time omg. It’s ‘eye-yurn’ But, awesome video! I barely have any good clothes and now I’m gonna start buying new clothes and building up my wardrobe. So I wanna make sure that my clothes last for as long as possible, thanks Tim!

Doing my laundry for the first time and I'm really thankful that my man Tim has a video for this. You definitely make my life better with your content!
Hey Tim, thanks for the video but can i ask a question, so when I separated the clothes into different piles, do I run the washer 6-7 times in a row? And what if i dont have many clothes and when I separate it they become small piles?
Tim these past couple weeks iv'e washed ALL my clothes again & again because I think there not clean or my t shirts are way too wrinkly and I think this really helped my mom has taught me not to put a huge load in the wash or dryer because they don't get properly cleaned or dried probably because theirs no air from way top much material in the machine so thxs
Damn, I had just been vaguely splitting into whites and colours and then throwing them in at 40 degrees without much thought. Thank you for helping me not ruin my clothes from now on :)
My mum told me you could generally wash your underwear with the whites (at least in the country where we live), because they're mostly cotton or mixed and they don't release much colour. Idk if it'd true or we never noticed the difference, but in case you don't have enough white laundry it's helpful
Love the video, very comprehensive! One tip my mom told me is to not use fabric softener or dryer sheets with towels, it coats the fibers and cuts down on the absorption power
Hi Tim, this is a very helpful video to me! Thx!

Yo, this is literaly just what i needed man, This is really a great timing. Thanks!
My pleasure 😊
@@TimDessaint keep up the quality content man. Got you on my notifications 😁
hello Tim, cannot appreciate enough your emphasis on sensible and sustainable washing....washing less is a great point you made! PLUS it saves time and effort ;) Clean water gets scarcer unfortunately
I actually use a protective cloth when ironing my cotton shirts - and I iron them on the inside.
It’s ‘eye-yurn’
But, awesome video! I barely have any good clothes and now I’m gonna start buying new clothes and building up my wardrobe. So I wanna make sure that my clothes last for as long as possible, thanks Tim!
Sorry haha, English is not my native language. Glad you enjoyed the video 😊 Hope my other videos will help you get some inspo for your new clothes!
Mr. Dessaint! We missed you! Hope you're doing good😌 (and obviously as always, great video😉)
Good to be back! 😊
THANK YOU FOR THE CHEAT SHEET! The typography makes it the perfect addition to my laundry area I had a rogue tall narrow picture frame that it fit perfectly in!
Solid video man! Going in depth whilst still keeping it simple and not overly detailed. Also, the cheat sheet saves lives!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
This is the first video from your channel that I watched and just want to say THANK YOU. I just started living by myself and this in depth video is just what I needed! 2 years ago and still relevant!
This video was amazing Tim! I like how you explained everything and showed us examples as well. I really enjoy your videos since they are brief and consise, but some topics like this one require longer videos IMO. Keep em coming!
Thanks a lot Dominik! I appreciate the feedback and glad you enjoyed the video 😊
Super helpful for a man starting his career alone. Thanks Tim! 😃
Holy crap what a comeback video
Glad you're back man! Also, I showed my older brother Tim your Uniqlo video since it's his favorite brand xD
Thanks my man! Good to be back 🙂
There is no more complete and enjoyable video on this topic, thank you very much
Such a great video Tim! And pretty helpful too, I'm used to hand-wash my clothes, and now that I'm going to the uni and I was struggling with how to wear washing machines properly.
Thank you Priscila! I'm glad you found it helpful 😊
finally someone made on how to laundry the clothes properly! really needed this one because theres no other video that has a good info on yt as well as some other fashion vloggers
I got you! 😊
Never change your aesthetics
Change, no. Improve, always 🙂
Tim Dessaint yes!
Thank youuuuu great information for someone who just started living alone
We really do need a Tim Dessaint on our lives.
I got you! 🙂
Dear Tim, thanks for this video. You have no idea how much fashion influence you have. How much my dress sense had improved and compliments I received since taking cues from your videos. This is a much needed video. Welcome back.
Thank you for your kind words Paul! I'm so happy to hear that you've been seeing improvement in your style 😊 It's good to be back!
Not all heroes wear capes!
Let's be honest, most of us needed this video
I checked the labels in my clothes after watching this now that I know what it means 😂😅
Bro I swear that you're the only guy that can rock a turtle neck
This was so incredibly handy!! Thank you!! I don’t have a mom to help me out with such things and my dad barely knows anything about laundry so you’re a real lifesaver! Thank you!!!
when the clothes are new I wash them even by hand, after 2 washes I put everything in, even socks in the washing machine smh jaja
Doing my laundry for the first time and I'm really thankful that my man Tim has a video for this. You definitely make my life better with your content!
You say Eye-Rin , I say Eye-Urn
for the ironing: i use a piece of thin cotton/linnen between my iron and delicate clothes, works fine
Girl: men didn't know anything about laundry!
Tim: show video about laundry
absolute hero you are Tim.. just what I needed before going to university! Keep up the great work
Oh he's cute!
I was just halfway through the video when I paused & subscribed. Thanks for sharing this in depth.
Hey Tim, thanks for the video but can i ask a question, so when I separated the clothes into different piles, do I run the washer 6-7 times in a row? And what if i dont have many clothes and when I separate it they become small piles?
You made it so easy to understand omg u saved my life and my clothes’ lives thank you!
Honestly, for a year now, I handwash everything because I'm that paranoid haha
Better safe than sorry 😅
this is genuinely the best video regarding washing your clothes and I 've watched a lot, thank you man this was helpful
Really. You should wear a Denim Overall when shooting this. Hahaha
Wow this actually helped me figured out why my clothes was getting damaged alot
This is doable if you only have such tiny amounts of wash.
He'll be doing it way different when he has kids.
Tim these past couple weeks iv'e washed ALL my clothes again & again because I think there not clean or my t shirts are way too wrinkly and I think this really helped my mom has taught me not to put a huge load in the wash or dryer because they don't get properly cleaned or dried probably because theirs no air from way top much material in the machine so thxs
love how many times you emphasized saving the planet
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it Nick 😊 Yess your mom is right, fabric softener reduces the absorption power of garments.
bro thanks for sharing your info and the cheat sheet! This video needs to be top-ranked on youtube!
