I mean it just felt odd catching pokemon like LUGIA or RAYQUAZA these all powerful deities people worship. And us 10 year olds just get em lol.
@@ribottostudio XD Yeah, me too honestly. It makes more sense, and still adds to how powerful these pokemon are...You didn't capture THEM. They enlisted YOU.
@Siper Well, perhaps there are powerful individuals within legendary species that bear unique responsibilities(like the birds and lugia in the movie). The capturable legendaries are still very powerful amongst other pokemon, but amongst their own species they are totally average. Kind of like how there are 'powerful' or more distinguished humans and regular humans. NOTE- this gives legendaries more agency, and treats them as characters, rather than items that just respawn due to arceus, or eggs hatching(the egg hatching one could apply to specific mythicals and legendaries, but not rhe majority)

I'm actually learning about this right now in one of my classes. While similar to Darwin's finches on the Galapagos islands, Hawaii's equivalent is called the Honeycreeper which is far more diverse. Darwin was never able to come to Hawai'i, but he was fascinated by the Honeycreeper because they more dramatically showed his theory than his finches, and he offered to pay for specimens. Pretty interesting stuff, at least I think so.
I don't know about anyone else, but the Tapus are my favorite legendary group by far. Their designs are unique and they all have personalities. They aren't just Pokemon to worship, they are Pokemon to fear. Also their battle theme slaps
It does go hard. I think it might be one of the songs on Eduard's Mega Mixtape (if you didn't know already, Eduard is an elite four member in the fan game Pokémon Insurgence. The item he uses to mega evolve his Cacturne happens to be a Mega Mixtape)
@@ShadowKnight5204 But it’s unfortunate that Cacturn doesn’t have a mega evolution because is a badass evil nocturnal Cactus Scarecrow Jack-o-Lantern thing of a monster with high physical attack and special attack, but it is really frail and slow which is why you should always use one with a trick room support Pokémon...
The fact of Oricorios being related to the Tapus made me think that the second type of the Tapus would be the same types as the Oricorios related to their Island when was just Koko that did got reveal and the Pompom style matched it. I was kinda upset this wasn't the case for Bulu and Fini... Even Ghost type would fit Fini's concept of Finish and related to the underworld deity.
I feel like the main reason Fini is water type because; one: they wanted a water type, two: the fact that they are a swordfish, and three: the dex entry. Washing away anything unclean sound better then just spiriting them away. And I'm still confused why Bulu is grass over fire..... I look at them and think fire.
You're wrong though. All the typings fit. Two of the types match perfectly (Electric and Psychic) while the other two still make perfect sense in other ways. The Baile Style may not be Grass-type, but it makes sense for them to be Fire/Flying to face the abundance of Grass-type Pokémon (just like Alolan Marowak) as well as Tapu Bulu. And Sensu Style's Ghost typing fits perfectly with Tapu Fini's origins as Kanaloa, even if it doesn't match the typing. Water, Ghost, and Fairy are all types that fit Tapu Fini/Kanaloa, and having Tapu Fini as Water/Fairy and Oricorio-S as Ghost/Flying made the most sense in terms of representing all three of those types. Kanaloa is a deity of the ocean, so having it as a Water-type (and giving it Lono's marlin hat) were necessary. But the lulling of the waves and the general atmosphere of both the deity and the island it protects means that Oricorio-S adapting to the Ghost-type makes sense.
@@SketchingPandaRen I'll never understand how you can look at it and think "That's a Fire-type" 😅 Also Tapu Fini is a water type because of what it is based on (an ocean deity). Why are you confused? Have you not listened to what they are based on? He covered it all
@@veledwin1 honestly, I also thought Tapu Bulu is a fire type.... like the three Tapu's have the common color for their types: Koko = yellow = electricity; Lele = pink= fairy; Fini = blue = water But Bulu = red = plant..? It's more so about visual communication, like sure if you put origins and what they are based on, you could get it, but without context, you'll be very much confused

Real world creatures have been shown to adapt to difference in temperature by growing darker/black fur then to back to normal when the temperature goes back to normal,it could be that the eeveelutions are already preprogrammed in eevee’s DNA but only manifest once certain prerequisites have been met. That or it could just be that with Eevee being “The Evolution Pokemon” it is the common ancestor which the eeveelutions have built upon, like the eeveelutions representing the gradual generational change that evolutions brings up instead of being another part of a pokemon’s lifestyle like most pokemon evolutions are

Well, I guess there are other ways you can connect Tapu Bulu to Lono. Tapu Bulu battles violently, but it also avoids conflict whenever possible by ringing its bell to alert others to its presence. You could probably stretch the bell to fit Lono’s music domain too.

Given everything said in the video, I would say the land was so abundant that the leader became too selfish & indulgent. In anger of this, Tapu Bulu destoyed the village & absorbed all the plant life to prevent further corruption. Thus protecting the land from the "ruins of abundance".
This is also the case with most of the other ruins. The Ruins of Conflict reside outside a peaceful village and the Ruins of Life come after a graveyard. Really the only odd one out is the Ruins of Hope, though if you consider the harrowing look of Poni Breaker Coast and that it's on the island that in both games is where the climax of the conflict occurs I suppose it's not entirely without meaning.

A video about every final evolution being dual type would be pretty cool. For example, Blastoise being water/steel or Basculin between water/dark Excluding all of Eevee’s evolutions
Another reason for Tapu Fini being suited as Kana Lulu because in one episode Hapu tells Ash and the others about how Tapu Fini's fog connects the world of the living with the world of the deceased and a few of them literally came across their lost loved ones. Another connection to the underworld, or spirit realm.
Remember when we thought Magearna was going to be an artificial Tapu for Aether Island? It fits in with them creating Type:Null, and it would have been so much more interesting than just being handed it in a random event. That's really been a problem with most (all?) of the mythicals since Gen V.
I always thought that the Tapus’ shared Fairy Type was because of their darker nature. Fey also have dark and sinister sides in a lot of depictions of them.
Everything past 12:00 minutes was stuff I didn't know, thanks Lockstin I didn't notice most of those correlations, they're all pretty cool, just makes me wish the islands were bigger so we cpuld explore more in the games. Hopefully Sword and Shield will be significantly bigger than Sun and Moon and have just as many cultural references as the Alolan Pokemon
Thing you might want to keep in mind is that Ulaula, Tapu Bulu's island is also the place where Po Town (a place filled with Alola's rejects Team Skull) is perpetually raining almost as if the area has been cursed in some way - which given the former corrupt kahuna and the fact Po Town was said to be where the former royal family lived and looks under all the vandelism to have been a very high class and fancy -kinda like a gated community perhaps?- place... (Alas I cannot find it now but I do remember reading a while back a story about a god I think was Lono cursing a man for smashing a sacred bolder in his property and cursing him to be forever followed by rain. YMMV on if I've got the facts right or not since I'm having trouble finding it now but if I am remembering right then that would explain a little of what's happening with Bulu right now in Sun/Moon canon). Lono is also associated with storms and the rainy season was once said to his tears of grieving over his first mortal wife Kaikilani so IDK Po Town could also be grieving for the former royal family and/or the members of Team Skull? Nanu does seem pretty concerned about and for them in a way nobody else in Alola seems to be bothered with (Nanu is lazy yeah but I think Bulu also picked him because as Acerola points out he secretly cares a lot and does a LOT for people. Lono's kind side showing through that kahuna choice even if Bulu is too pissed to deal with people right now, it still chose a kahuna who would do good for the island, even if it's not the kind of good humans like professor Kukui want/expect). Actually continuing on that Po Town ramble, one thing I've always found fascinating about the place screams that its a puʻuhonua (city of refuge) with how it has those massive walls and its where team Skull (the outcasts/'disrespectful ones') have fled to, and yet all the houses there under grime seem hella fancy in a way that places like a pu'uhonua probably wouldn't be? ...Just a theory on my part but I suspect the previous kahuna might've actually been part of the Ula'ula royal family given their mansion is one of the many abandoned buildings there and that Po Town itself prior to being taken over by team Skull is representative of how the kahuna at the time was disrespecting the scared sites/roles places were meant to have since well, pu'uhonua are for those that need sanctuary not to be where rich fancy people build mansions and trim hedged for themselves (...whereas IDK overly fancy stuff and 'neatly trimmed hedges' screams gated community and trashing something like that seems like it would be right up team Skull's alley). All complete conjecture on my part though~ XD Still given that there's that endless rain, Nanu (aka the kahuna/high priest of Bulu) nearby looking out for the people there (and implied to visit if that bed covered in meowth fur inside the mansion/Shady House is any indication) instead of arresting them like most people seem to think he should as a police officer... Call me crazy but looking over Ula'ula as a whole a sort of story of 'how the traditional islanders lost their way, perhaps over generations in worse and worse ways and eventually lead to the normally gentle natured Tapu Bulu completely losing it sh#t' in only the last generation or two. Going by that logic, Nanu might just be Kahuna because Tapu Bulu was as depressed and sad as Nanu post failed ultra beast interpol missions is and IDK felt like it could relate. (Aaahhh~ The secret/up to interpretation tragic stories tucked away in the pokemon games never fail to be fun to try to piece together

That could also explain why the Sandygast that was on the black sand didn't like being there., not just because the sand was different, but because Sandygast, which is a ghost-type, could feel the sacred energy.
I really like the theory of the Oricorio's being related to the Tapus. I think it fits even better than you said! Two of the typings match perfectly, and the other two still make sense. The Baile Style may not be Grass-type, but it makes sense for them to be Fire/Flying to face the abundance of Grass-type Pokémon (just like Alolan Marowak) as well as Tapu Bulu. Oricorio-B's Fire typing also matches Tapu Bulu's personality, as well as Lono being the god of music. And Sensu Style's Ghost typing still fits perfectly with Tapu Fini's origins as Kanaloa. It makes even more sense when you consider that Oricorio's forms are also based on Darwin's finches. They all evolved to match their deity/island. I've never disliked Oricorio, but that theory alone has made me like all four of its forms a lot more! Just in time for my Ultra Moon playthrough :D
i think that maybe, Oricorio's different forms could reference countries influencing the history of the country: 1-pa'u style, being based on the traditional pa'u dance, reflects the hawaian culture. 2-sensu style, a reference to traditional japanese dances, is also a reference to japan, maybe because of the proximity. 3-baile style, clearly a reference to flamenco, because of the spanish colonies and maybe because of the battle of cagayan (but i dont really believe that) 4-pom-pom style, inspired by cheerleading, a reference to the united states that hawai became part of.

I've seen this happen in a few of your videos that mention my homeland's indigenous culture, so I'm gonna help you out with how it's actually pronounced. Mine are Tapu's Lele and Bulu. I pretty much grew to love this mon thanks to the anime. She's a brutal battler with a caring side and the Mew vibes I grew up liking and Tapu Bulu I liked using in competitive alongside a mon whose weak to ground. I also feel like I really resonate with these two.
So since you showed the anime towards the end of the video, I feel okay using it as a source: in the anime, Tapu Fini explicitly has the power to connect the living with the spirits of the dead through a special mist it produces, putting it squarely in the role of Kanaloa. As far as Olivia's similarly to Tapu Lele goes, while Olivia lacks Lele's casual, capricious cruelty, she is responsible for a lot of the damage she tries to fix thanks to her own clumsiness; it is another anime-only trait, but it's so inherent to her there that I feel like it's meant to be canon across all media.

Hey Lockstin, I know this seems a but off topic, but I wanted to know your thoughts on what we've seen in Sword and Shield so far. Now that we have more information on new Pokemon, Galarian and Gigantamax forms, and so on, I thought it would be cool to hear your opinion on these things.
You talking about the Tapus' capricious nature towards humanity made me wonder... why the hell did Tapu Koko save the player in the beginning of the game if it doesn't care about protecting humans? Maybe, being a guardian deity and all, it could somehow sense that disaster could soon befall Alola via the Ultra Beasts, whom the Tapus have fought before. Maybe Tapu Koko sensed that the PC would become entangled in the Aether Foundations plans, and be vital to Alola's protection, and decided to save them- along with giving them a gift, a blessing, in the form of a Z-stone, to help them along. And well... it was right, after all; it's the PC who stops Lusamine (or Necrozma in USUM), saving Alola from true disaster even as the Tapus again fought the Ultra Beasts. Perhaps that's even why the Tapus deign to fight you in the post-game; if the little human who saved Alola- the islands, as well as the people- wants a battle, then why not give it to them? And if they manage to actually capture them... well, a human lifetime is nothing to a god, and they could probably break out whenever they want to (I don't buy, even for a moment, that a Pokeball could actually hold a legendary unless they allowed it). Eh, it's just a theory. A POKEMON THEORY!!
It was actually rescuing Nebby. A bazillion years ago whichever Pokemon happens to be the game mascot of the version being played showed up and trounced all four Tapu, earning their loyalty in the process. It then tasked them with watching out for its kids; Nebby isn't specifically established as coming from that bloodline or whatever but belongs to the right species. I forget where this is spelled out in-game (for obvious reasons I'd guess Malie Library), but my info isn't a theory.
The Oricorio forms brings an interesting idea, what would a non alolan Oricorio look like, there should be a "first" form that was taken before they drank the nectar right? And what would happen if they left alola, would they be forever stuck as the form they left in? What if they went to Sinnoh and drank from around the emotion lakes? So many possibilities from all the games.

@@arceusflute369 Hmm that's true.....I always felt a bit AWKWARD catching legendary pokemon to be honest-even if it's just a game.
In the anime, Tapu Fini was able to let people visit the dead, so the underworld thing does make more sense.

I always sort of thought of the Oricorio forms as an allusion to Darwin’s finches.
It can be both.

@@SketchingPandaRen
Also, many cultures consider water to be a spiritual conduit.
@@SketchingPandaRen I'll never understand how you can look at it and think "That's a Fire-type" 😅

This was really interesting. My question for you is why is Eevee's DNA so unstable?
Real world creatures have been shown to adapt to difference in temperature by growing darker/black fur then to back to normal when the temperature goes back to normal,it could be that the eeveelutions are already preprogrammed in eevee’s DNA but only manifest once certain prerequisites have been met. That or it could just be that with Eevee being “The Evolution Pokemon” it is the common ancestor which the eeveelutions have built upon, like the eeveelutions representing the gradual generational change that evolutions brings up instead of being another part of a pokemon’s lifestyle like most pokemon evolutions are

I get the feeling that the ruins of abundance used to be in a lush place. When it turned to desert it was abandoned, ergo the *ruins* of abundance.
That's not what abundance means
@@jerryjerky7592 In the context of a chunk of land, yes it is. No-one would call a desert abundant just because it has an abundance of sand.
@@jerryjerky7592 I think they mean the *ruins* of abundance as in, there was once abundance, but now there isn't.
The “finish” part probably isn’t right. Hawaiian words only ever really end in a vowel, so the “i” in Fini is just the pronunciation.

I really like the connect between the Islands themselves, the Tapus, and the different Oricorios.
All complete conjecture on my part though~ XD
Still given that there's that endless rain, Nanu (aka the kahuna/high priest of Bulu) nearby looking out for the people there (and implied to visit if that bed covered in meowth fur inside the mansion/Shady House is any indication) instead of arresting them like most people seem to think he should as a police officer...

I caught that n64 reference, “he’s the leader of the bunch, you know him well”
i think that maybe, Oricorio's different forms could reference countries influencing the history of the country:
1-pa'u style, being based on the traditional pa'u dance, reflects the hawaian culture.
2-sensu style, a reference to traditional japanese dances, is also a reference to japan, maybe because of the proximity.
3-baile style, clearly a reference to flamenco, because of the spanish colonies and maybe because of the battle of cagayan (but i dont really believe that)
4-pom-pom style, inspired by cheerleading, a reference to the united states that hawai became part of.

He's the first member of the koko crew HUH
A bull and flamenco. That screams out Spain.
It always cracks me up when Americans try to pronounce Maori as "Mah-Ori" It's more... "Mao-ree" but depends on your accent.
I just go all Tapu Koko on them.
It's pronounced Mao-ri, not Levio-sa...!!!
And it's a tapped r. . . *Yells in Hispanic*
My favorite generation 7 legendary pokemon happened to be one of tapus/guardian deities, and my favorite guardian deities is tapu lele, tapu lele is a majestic butterfly legendary pokemon and
tapu lele shares life, and is the most caring of the tapus and tapu lele is also the most majestic of the tapus, my favorite insect is a butterfly and tapu lele is a legendary butterfly pokemon and tapu lele plays a big role in the Games too. And also, tapu lele resides in the ruins of life, makes sense.
Olivia may not be cruel but she is a bit rough with people, like if she hugs someone she might tend to squeeze them too tight!

It's Māori (MAA-OH-REE), not mayori.
Or another way of spelling it out is "Mou-ree", with the mou from MOUntain and the r is the weird extended version that most English speakers can't seem to do.
Also the Fini Oricorio is a ghost type, which further ties in with the death theme
You forgot one thing that Lele and Olivia have in common.
They're by far the most Rule 34'd among their respective groups.
Also, I'd call "dropping a gigantic boulder on you" pretty darn violent.
Really? I could see this being the case for Olivia, but Lele? I've seen mons Rule 34'd a lot more than her :v
@@jordy7625 Lele's group isn't "all Pokemon," it's "all Tapu."
@@blarg2429 Oh my b
I think it is easy to explain Tapu Bulu being Lono (no idea how it is spelled). It has a bell in the lowest part of its body.
I have a question! What is Jirachi's connection to Archie, you think from his room in ORAS regarding the picture?

"he's the leader of the bunch you know him well"
Is that a reference to the DK rap?
"Its *a* theory?"

If the Tapus blessed the nectar in order to change the form of Oricorio in order to aid in worshiping them, would that mean that there is some kind of original or un-tampered form of Oricorio?
Could be a interesting form
I seem to remember something similar to this in the end of Pokémon series
The uhhh PURPLE ocorio ( I forgot how to spell )
Can summon the dead
Tapu Fini theoretically is the god of the underworld
The bird thingy and Tapu Fini is theoretically the same
Tapus: holy sacred being not to be messed with
Random 10yo trainer: haha I need you for my dex entry LUL
The "I" at the end of Tapu FINI is to just fit with the other tapus and their vowel placements
Tapu Koko
Tapu Lele
Tapu Bulu
Tapu Fini
So is a Z-move pose and symbol video ever coming? Like the fairy icon is kinda based on a fairy, but the fairies in pokemon have all kinds of shapes, so is it based on ribombee??
12:41 "the leader of the bunch you know him well" he's finally back to kick some tail

Bulu is the only Tapu with a bell, hence it's god of music status. Great video!
Oh yeah, that’s true, and it also resides in the ruins of abundance which have the least amount of humans and pokemons which makes it the god of peace.

Their battle music is also pretty good and fits them, too.

idk i kinda like the idea of pokemon deities bonding or choosing a human protector through personality traits just how trainer and pokemon bond through personality and likeness like two parts of the same soul and all of that like it is a pretty cool idea to consider thats why the kahuna could call the tapu for assistance in battle , because they share that bond between human and pokemon, but however being gods they cant be captured and in essence this can represent the natural flow of what pokemon and people should share and that is a natural bond and humans who are at one with nature

Cant get over how much I love how much your filming set has grown ❤
Hey Lockstin, I know this seems a but off topic, but I wanted to know your thoughts on what we've seen in Sword and Shield so far. Now that we have more information on new Pokemon, Galarian and Gigantamax forms, and so on, I thought it would be cool to hear your opinion on these things.
I went to Hawaii once and got to see actual totems of the gods the Tapus are based on. It was cool.
I'd like to see a video explaining the origins of Shiny Pokémon.
Shinies are albino or melanistic versions of Pokemon, perhaps there was a genetic mutation that caused the Pokemon to be born in odd color.
I think Kahuna Hala confirms that Ku is the inspiration for Tapu Koko, as Ku is the god of war and Hala is the fighting type Kahuna
outta curiosity, what's the background music?
maybe tapus:I'm guarding the nature not you

For real I thought there was only Tapu Koko when I was younger (by that I mean like a year ago.)
I forget where this is spelled out in-game (for obvious reasons I'd guess Malie Library), but my info isn't a theory.
tapu bulu is big chungus
Correct.
I can’t wait for the gen 7 remakes in 15 years
Bro same
Damn I'm accidentally early.
That’s what he said
King of the Underworld, death etc... It's tapu bulu, he Is violent, destroyed a Village and absorbs Life from plants
Plus, Tapu Koko, based on Kuu the god of war, and Hala is a fighting specialist
Yup, it’s a coincidence
The Oricorio forms brings an interesting idea, what would a non alolan Oricorio look like, there should be a "first" form that was taken before they drank the nectar right? And what would happen if they left alola, would they be forever stuck as the form they left in? What if they went to Sinnoh and drank from around the emotion lakes? So many possibilities from all the games.
