Looks like the Safety speed controller is required or the reel will overspool? The manual Hose Reel 700 Series seems to have an overspool adjustment, does the electric one not have this?

Hi Ched. The Xline reel still has the manual adjuster on the drum to stop the reel dumping hose at your feet as the hose is pulled out. The Control is there to provide variable speed control on winding in Plus it has a snag protection. In the event the hose gets caught or trodden on the control detects that and stops the motor. The Control also soft starts the motor when it starts winding. As the motor starts turning it can generate a lot of torque and catch the unwary as it snatches. The control soft starts the motor as it initially begins to turn.
