Three window cleaners left 'spotting'. How to work out the problem.

- Real customers, real jobs, real issues: Here we explore why a lady in Leicester had 3 previous window cleaners, that all left spotting on the glass. 'Spotting' is when, after the windows have been cleaned, the finish is not crystal clear glass. White spots cover the whole glass or some of the glass instead. Not the finish you want.
We try to find out what could be the problem for these window cleaners and see if we cannot improve things a little for this lady. This is the story of that journey.

My dear friend you might as well walk away from that house hi have been a window cleaner for 45 years you could clean those windows 10 times for her in a day and I tell you right now she would not be happy and it wouldn't surprise me if she was after a free clean walk away
Nice clear video and great fault illumination without sounding like your bad mouthing previous windows cleaners. You noted the high volume of traffic, motorway etc which is a great tool to assist in the client being happy

MUSIC TO LOUD don't add as much music especially when your talking, When there's no music it's like we are there with you but when there's music playing over your voice it brings it back to a bog standard video sitting at home watching.

Interesting video but I would suggest dropping the music does not make it dramatic just hard to hear conversation nobody goes to a rave for a meeting .... duh
Very annoying
I was thinking of getting the waterfed system here in the uk where i live. people do use it but most of my most resent customers say they hate it because letting the windows dry naturally brings bad results because water drips from frames onto the glass and tends to leave drip marks and the glass looks cloudy two . At the end of the day there's no better tool than the squeegee . I want to buy wagtail high flyer and a extension pole to use for repeat cleans and use ladder for first time cleans.
It's your life. Personally we only use ladders for access now.

I am always slow at picking up new stuff, especially when it comes to reels. Don't get me wrong, I see the benefits and there are great auto reels out there, not sure whats holding me up to be fair. Have you seen the new IQ from waterworks?

Hi there my tds is 138-140 I'm just starting up as I have a gardening round and many of my customers want there windows cleaned too. Im going to start of with a back pack to begin with to see if I can build it up, would I get away with a DI vessel to reduce the tds need to get it right and looking at the RO system looks complicated also I'm on a water meter many thanks Russell.

This is exactly why some hate wfp and has a bad name in some eyes. Some people use it as a cheat to just get done faster. Just like some shortcut on wfp tho, just as many shortcut and do crappy work with traditional as well. Great vid.
Ive done my first week converting over my round from trad to wfp, I noticed plenty spotting the next day when I went to collect, I pointed this out to the customer, she just thought it had rained, I said it was years of built up muck that was rinsed down and dried, but now I think I need to rinse much more?

This happened to me when i started 6yrs ago, lots of spotting. Takes 3 to 5 cleans to get the residue out of top seals. I just kept hitting it up and across the seal, aftee that it stopped leaking down but you have to be persistant and bear along with it. Rinse properly as well thoroghly all the way along the window. I havent any regrets about making the switch over!! Wud never go back to Trad now

I always scrub the frames down good before even touching the glass!

3 Areas of fault
OPERATOR - Technique or ommissionMECHANICAL - Fault on window such as seal, TDS, new hose evenENVIRONMENTAL - Workmen in the area? Gutter or extension roof oversplash, dripping overflow pipe etc
Check the spotting, is it 1 window or all windows? All windows would suggest MECHANICAL on YOUR kit, All windows on 1 side only suggest ENVIRONMENTAL, Just1 window suggests omission or MECHANICAL (window) or ENVIRONMENTAL. Check the pattern of the spotting, if its just a line then follow it upwards to see where the problem is. Multiple vertical lines suggests dodgy seals (clean and flush). Random pattern spotting suggests technique, possibly splashing above the window on the wall or fascia
Good points. In this case and talking to the lady, it was clear that the frames were never cleaned properly.

All glass is wonderful to work on With the Where's the reach and wash A lot of it is to do with the non professional window cleaner

I would bet my money that they are using rain water straight to glass. This is what the summer brigade are doing to earn a quick quid. Collecting rain water in the back garden, into a mobile unit and straight onto glass.
Actually, three different window cleaners on three separate occasions produced the same issue for this homeowner. It's highly unlikely that they were all rainwater harvesting as my video here proves it can produce just as good quality as from an RO DI setup ua-cam.com/video/--A35jYq8ec/v-deo.html and leave windows spot free.
The problem was because all the window cleaners did not clean the frames prior to cleaning the glass.

I’m guessing you are either not a window cleaner or you are a window cleaner using traditional methods?
@@lanceclark3674 And we like questions. I was right in my summary then. When pure water guys clean windows part of that process is to wash over the frames first. This is to prevent dirt from the frames trapped in water from dripping onto the cleaned glass.
In the old days, you used to be able to charge this as an extra job for fame cleaning if you cleaned windows in the traditional way.
Traditional guys nowadays if they work in areas amongst other water fed pole operators may choose the habit of running a cloth over as part of the full service.

She gets one guy to do it, complains because she doesn't like the speed its done or the price.
